It is/was spoken in and around the town of Belang in the Southeast Minahasa Regency in North Sulawesi Province in the Philippines. In November 2024 there were just three fluent speakers of Ponosakan, all of whom are elderly. </p> <p><iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d63828.25363540076!2d124.74358091570903!3d0.9534978035379794!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x3280b471dbd7ff77%3A0x6afb19e794b7def4!2sBelang%2C%20Southeast%20Minahasa%20Regency%2C%20North%20Sulawesi%2C%20Indonesia!5e0!3m2!1sen!2suk!4v1735669086986!5m2!1sen!2suk" width="400" height="300" style="border:0;" allowfullscreen="" loading="lazy" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade"></iframe> </p> <p>The numbers of Ponosakan speakers started to decline in the 1920s when many people speaking other languages started to migrate to Ponosakan-speaking areas. By the second half of the 20th century, very few people still spoke Ponosakan.
