Leaders in the social sector can bring a much-needed social impact lens to AI development and application. But they need the necessary knowledge and tools to leverage AI to improve their organizations and effectively influence the technology. </p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">In this program, the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI) and the <a href="https://dschool.stanford.edu/"><strong>Hasso Plattner Institute for Design</strong></a> (d.school) join forces to offer a highly engaging social sector educational experience that blends cutting-edge research and application with human-centered AI and social systems design frameworks. We aim to build a close-knit community of leaders to share best practices and create solutions together; demystify AI and improve professionals’ understanding of these tools and the underlying data; Often this requires that you navigate complex systems and work on ambiguous challenges with limited resources. We will introduce and guide social sector practitioners through the process of integrating practices of human-centered design, systems thinking, equity, and strategy in order to have greater impact.  </p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">This workshop introduces design practices that have been developed for the unique needs of those leading or making change in the social sector.  The workshop blends the following four essential practices that will help you navigate your work: </p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;"><strong><em>Human-Centered Design</em></strong> centers people’s experiences, behaviors, beliefs, and needs as your guide.</p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;"><strong><em>Systems Thinking</em></strong> explores the relationships and forces that affect the challenge. </p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;"><strong><em>Strategy</em> </strong>hones your goals and develops the path to reach them.</p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;"><strong><em>Equity</em> </strong>engages an intention around power, bias, and identity.</p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">We have combined these practices and worked to make them complementary and accessible. We call it <strong><em>Integrative Design </em></strong><em>because we believe the integration of these practices makes for more effective design work</em>.</p><p class="" ceremony</span></a> held at Stanford Stadium.</p><p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">All students who are participating in the Design Diploma Ceremony must complete the <a Before joining Google / Alphabet, Astro was the co-founding CEO of Cerebellum Capital, Inc, an investment management firm whose investments are continuously designed, executed, and improved by a software system based on techniques from statistical machine learning. Before his tenure as a business executive, Dr. Teller taught at Stanford University and was an engineer and researcher for Phoenix Laser Technologies, Stanford's Center for Integrated Systems, and The Carnegie Group Incorporated. Dr. Teller holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Stanford University, Masters of Science in symbolic and heuristic computation, also from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in artificial
