Your war on terror is not only a dangerous joke for the national security of the United States, but is absolutely a series of war crimes that should be addressed at the Hague. Here is the latest on the suspects who were held and tortured at Gitmo for 7 years:</p> <p>“It was the first hearing on the government’s evidence for holding detainees at Guantánamo. The judge, Richard J. Leon of Federal District Court in Washington, said the government’s secret evidence in the case had been weak: what he described as “a classified document from an unnamed source” for its central claim against the men, with little way to measure credibility. “To rest on so thin a reed would be inconsistent with this court’s obligation,” Judge Leon said. He urged the government not to appeal and said the men should be released “forthwith.”</p> <p>Yes, you read that right. 5 people were held in a secret military prison and tortured for 7 years based on a single document of unknown origin. The judge, a Bush appointee I might add, also told the government not to seek an appeal, a stunning slap against Bush-Cheney and pals:</p> <p>“Still, there was a buzz in the gallery when he announced that the government had not proved its case against the five men. The torture of anyone is NEVER justified. And it would have happened regardless of who was in the White House. When you see your friends arms and legs getting blown off by terrorists' roadside bombs every day, the natural reaction is revenge. It doesn't make torture right (because I don't think it is), but it's a natural reaction to the horrors of war. The torture of anyone is NEVER justified. And it would have happened regardless of who was in the White House. When you see your friends arms and legs getting blown off by terrorists' roadside bombs every day, the natural reaction is revenge. It doesn't make torture right (because I don't think it is), but it's a natural reaction to the horrors of war.
