but she, out of her poverty, did cast in all the livelihood that she had.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">Temple Destruction Foretold<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 24:1-4; Mark 13:1-9)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And as some were speaking about the temple, that it was adorned with goodly stones and consecrated gifts, He said, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span><span class="red">“<i>As to</i> these things which you are beholding, <i>the</i> days will come in which no stone will be left upon a stone, which will not be thrown down.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, when will these things be, and what <i>will be</i> the sign when these things are about to take place?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And He said, <span class="red">“Take heed, lest you be led astray; for many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am <i>He</i>,’ and ‘The time is drawn near.’ Do not go after them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And when you should hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for it behooves these things to take place first, but the end <i>is</i> not immediately.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">Witnessing to All Nations<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 24:9-14; Mark 13:10-13)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then He was saying to them, <span class="red">“Nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>There will be both great earthquakes, and famines and pestilences in different places. There will also be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But before all these things, they will lay their hands upon you, and will persecute <i>you</i>, delivering <i>you</i> to the synagogues and prisons, bringing <i>you</i> before kings and governors on account of My name. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>It will result to you for a testimony. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Settle therefore in your minds not to premeditate to make a defense. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all those opposing you will not be able to resist nor to reply to. </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put to death <i>some</i> from among you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And you will be hated by all because of My name. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And no, not a hair of your head should perish. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>By your patient endurance, you will gain your souls. </p><p class="hdg">The Destruction of Jerusalem<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 24:15-25; Mark 13:14-23)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And when you see Jerusalem being encircled by encampments, then know that her desolation has drawn near. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; and those in her midst, let them depart out; and those in the countries, let them not enter into her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For these are <i>the</i> days of avenging, to fulfill all things having been written. </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But woe to those having in womb, and to the <i>ones</i> nursing in those days. For there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And they will fall by <i>the</i> edge of <i>the</i> sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by <i>the</i> Gentiles, until <i>the</i> times of <i>the</i> Gentiles are fulfilled. </p><p class="hdg">The Return of the Son of Man<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 24:26-31; Mark 13:24-27)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity, sea roaring and surge rolling, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>men fainting from fear and expectation of that which is coming on the earth. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And then will they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And of these things beginning to come to pass, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” </p><p class="hdg">The Lesson of the Fig Tree<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 24:32-35; Mark 13:28-31)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And He spoke to them a parable: <span class="red">“Behold the fig tree and all the trees. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>When they sprout already, looking for yourselves, you know that already summer is near. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>So also you, when you see these things coming to pass, know that the kingdom of God is near. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Truly I say to you that this generation will not have passed away until all shall have taken place. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>The heaven and the earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.</span> </p><p class="hdg">Be Watchful for the Day</p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts ever be burdened with dissipation and drunkenness and <i>the</i> cares of life—and that day would come upon you suddenly as a snare. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>For it will come upon all those sitting upon the face of all the earth. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Watch also at every season, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to come to pass and to stand before the Son of Man.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And during the day He was teaching in the temple, and in the evening going out, He was lodging on the mount called Olivet. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And all the people would come to Him early in the morning in the temple, to hear Him.<A name="fn"><br /><br /></p><A name="fna"></a><span class="footnotesbot">a</span> <span class="fnverse">2</span> <span class="footnote">A lepton was a Jewish copper coin worth about 1/128 of a denarius</span><br /><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">The Berean Bible<br /><a href="//berean.bible">www.Berean.Bible</a><br /><br /><a href="//literalbible.com">Berean Literal Bible (BLB)</a><br />© 2016 by <a href="//biblehub.com">Bible Hub</a> and <a href="//berean.bible">Berean.Bible</a><br />Used by Permission.
