support to customers and partners. In order to rate chatbots, especially ones powered by Generative AI tools like Large Language Models (LLMs), we need to be able to accurately assess their performance. This is where chatbot benchmarking becomes important. In this paper, authors propose the use of a benchmark that they call the E2E (End to End) benchmark and show how the E2E benchmark can be used to evaluate the accuracy and usefulness of the answers provided by chatbots, especially ones powered by LLMs. The authors evaluate an example chatbot at different levels of sophistication based on both our E2E benchmark as well as other available metrics commonly used in the state of the art and observe that the proposed benchmark shows better results compared to others. In addition, while some metrics proved to be unpredictable, the metric associated with the E2E benchmark, which uses cosine similarity, performed well in evaluating chatbots. The performance of our best models shows that there are several benefits of using the cosine similarity score as a metric in the E2E benchmark. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chatbot%20benchmarking" title="chatbot benchmarking">chatbot benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=end-to-end%20%28E2E%29%20benchmarking" title=" end-to-end (E2E) benchmarking"> end-to-end (E2E) benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=large%20language%20model" title=" large language model"> large language model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=user%20centric%20evaluation." title=" user centric evaluation."> user centric evaluation.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175727/large-language-model-powered-chatbots-need-end-to-end-benchmarks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175727.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">68</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12970</span> Identification of Key Parameters for Benchmarking of Combined Cycle Power Plants Retrofit</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Sabzchi%20Asl">S. In order to achieve this goal, the first step is to develop a conceptual-mathematical model that can easily be applied to a group of similar processes. In this research, we have aimed to identify a set of key parameters for the model which is supposed to be used for benchmarking of combined cycle power plants. For this purpose, three similar combined cycle power plants were studied. The results showed that ambient temperature, pressure and relative humidity, number of HRSG evaporator pressure levels and relative power in part load operation are the main key parameters. Also, the relationships between these parameters and produced power (by gas/ steam turbine), gas turbine and plant efficiency, temperature and mass flow rate of the stack flue gas were investigated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=combined%20cycle%20power%20plant" title="combined cycle power plant">combined cycle power plant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20benchmarking" title=" energy benchmarking"> energy benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modelling" title=" modelling"> modelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=retrofit" title=" retrofit"> retrofit</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43201/identification-of-key-parameters-for-benchmarking-of-combined-cycle-power-plants-retrofit" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43201.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">305</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12969</span> A Goal-Oriented Approach for Supporting Input/Output Factor Determination in the Regulation of Brazilian Electricity Transmission</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20de%20Almeida%20Vilela">Bruno de Almeida Vilela</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heinz%20Ahn"> Heinz Ahn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20L%C3%BAcia%20Miranda%20Lopes"> Ana Lúcia Miranda Lopes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcelo%20Azevedo%20Costa"> Marcelo Azevedo Costa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Benchmarking public utilities such as transmission system operators (TSOs) is one of the main strategies employed by regulators in order to fix monopolistic companies’ revenues. Since 2007 the Brazilian regulator has been utilizing Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to benchmark TSOs. Despite the application of DEA to improve the transmission sector’s efficiency, some problems can be pointed out, such as the high price of electricity in Brazil; the limitation of the benchmarking only to operational expenses (OPEX); the absence of variables that represent the outcomes of the transmission service; and the presence of extremely low and high efficiencies. As an alternative to the current concept of benchmarking the Brazilian regulator uses, we propose a goal-oriented approach. Our proposal supports input/output selection by taking traditional organizational goals and measures as a basis for the selection of factors for benchmarking purposes. As the main advantage, it resolves the classical DEA problems of input/output selection, undesirable and dual-role factors. We also provide a demonstration of our goal-oriented concept regarding service quality. As a result, most TSOs’ efficiencies in Brazil might improve when considering quality as important in their efficiency estimation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decision%20making" title="decision making">decision making</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=goal-oriented%20benchmarking" title=" goal-oriented benchmarking"> goal-oriented benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=input%2Foutput%20factor%20determination" title=" input/output factor determination"> input/output factor determination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TSO%20regulation" title=" TSO regulation"> TSO regulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141537/a-goal-oriented-approach-for-supporting-inputoutput-factor-determination-in-the-regulation-of-brazilian-electricity-transmission" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141537.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">197</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12968</span> The Role of Social and Technical Lean Implementation in Improving Operational Performance: Insights from the Pharmaceutical Industry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bernasconi%20Matteo">Bernasconi Matteo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Grothkopp%20Mark"> Grothkopp Mark</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Friedli%20Thomas"> Friedli Thomas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objective of this paper is to examine the relationships between technical and social lean bundles as well as operational performance in the context of the pharmaceutical industry. We investigate the direct and mediating effects of the lean bundles total productive maintenance (TPM), total quality management (TQM), Just-In-Time (JIT), and human resource management (HRM) on operational performance. Our analysis relies on 113 manufacturing facilities from the St.Gallen OPEX benchmarking database. The results show that HRM has a positive indirect effect on operational performance mediated by the technical lean bundles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human%20resource%20management" title="human resource management">human resource management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=operational%20performance" title=" operational performance"> operational performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pharmaceutical%20industry" title=" pharmaceutical industry"> pharmaceutical industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technical%20lean%20practices" title=" technical lean practices"> technical lean practices</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151487/the-role-of-social-and-technical-lean-implementation-in-improving-operational-performance-insights-from-the-pharmaceutical-industry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151487.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12967</span> Reconceptualizing “Best Practices” in Public Sector</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eftychia%20Kessopoulou">Eftychia Kessopoulou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Styliani%20Xanthopoulou"> Styliani Xanthopoulou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ypatia%20Theodorakioglou"> Ypatia Theodorakioglou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=George%20Tsiotras"> George Tsiotras</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katerina%20Gotzamani"> Katerina Gotzamani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Public sector managers frequently herald that implementing best practices as a set of standards, may lead to superior organizational performance. However, recent research questions the objectification of best practices, highlighting: a) the inability of public sector organizations to develop innovative administrative practices, as well as b) the adoption of stereotypical renowned practices inculcated in the public sector by international governance bodies. The process through which organizations construe what a best practice is, still remains a black box that is yet to be investigated, given the trend of continuous changes in public sector performance, as well as the burgeoning interest of sharing popular administrative practices put forward by international bodies. This study aims to describe and understand how organizational best practices are constructed by public sector performance management teams, like benchmarkers, during the benchmarking-mediated performance improvement process and what mechanisms enable this construction. A critical realist action research methodology is employed, starting from a description of various approaches on best practice nature when a benchmarking-mediated performance improvement initiative, such as the Common Assessment Framework, is applied. Firstly, we observed the benchmarker’s management process of best practices in a public organization, so as to map their theories-in-use. As a second step we contextualized best administrative practices by reflecting the different perspectives emerged from the previous stage on the design and implementation of an interview protocol. We used this protocol to conduct 30 semi-structured interviews with “best practice” process owners, in order to examine their experiences and performance needs. Previous research on best practices has shown that needs and intentions of benchmarkers cannot be detached from the causal mechanisms of the various contexts in which they work. Such causal mechanisms can be found in: a) process owner capabilities, b) the structural context of the organization, and c) state regulations. Therefore, we developed an interview protocol theoretically informed in the first part to spot causal mechanisms suggested by previous research studies and supplemented it with questions regarding the provision of best practice support from the government. Findings of this work include: a) a causal account of the nature of best administrative practices in the Greek public sector that shed light on explaining their management, b) a description of the various contexts affecting best practice conceptualization, and c) a description of how their interplay changed the organization’s best practice management. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmarking" title="benchmarking">benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=action%20research" title=" action research"> action research</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=critical%20realism" title=" critical realism"> critical realism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=best%20practices" title=" best practices"> best practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20sector" title=" public sector"> public sector</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125011/reconceptualizing-best-practices-in-public-sector" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125011.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">129</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12966</span> Examining the Performance of Three Multiobjective Evolutionary Algorithms Based on Benchmarking Problems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Konstantinos%20Metaxiotis">Konstantinos Metaxiotis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Konstantinos%20Liagkouras"> Konstantinos Liagkouras</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objective of this study is to examine the performance of three well-known multiobjective evolutionary algorithms for solving optimization problems. In centrifugal rotor-dynamic pump, the fluid enters in the impeller along to the rotating axis to be accelerated in order to increase the pressure, flowing radially outward into another stage, vaned diffuser or volute casing, from where it finally exits into a downstream pipe. Simulations are carried out at the best efficiency point (BEP) and part load, for single-phase flow with several turbulence models. The results are compared with overall performance report from experimental data. The use of CFD technology in industry is still limited by the high computational costs, and even more by the high cost of commercial CFD software and high-performance computing (HPC) licenses. The main objectives of the present study are to define OpenFOAM methodology for high-quality 3D steady and transient turbomachinery CFD simulation to conduct a thorough time-accurate performance analysis. On the other hand a detailed comparisons between computational methods, features on latest Ansys release 18 and OpenFOAM is investigated to assess the accuracy and industrial applications of those solvers. Finally an automated connected workflow (IoT) for turbine blade applications is presented. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmarking" title="benchmarking">benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFX" title=" CFX"> CFX</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20of%20things" title=" internet of things"> internet of things</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=openFOAM" title=" openFOAM"> openFOAM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time-accurate" title=" time-accurate"> time-accurate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=turbomachinery" title=" turbomachinery"> turbomachinery</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71609/3d-steady-and-transient-centrifugal-pump-flow-within-ansys-cfx-and-openfoam" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71609.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">205</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12964</span> Conducting Quality Planning, Assurance and Control According to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) Standards and Benchmarking Data for Kuwait Food Industries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alaa%20Alateeqi">Alaa Alateeqi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Aldhulaiee"> Sara Aldhulaiee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Alibraheem"> Sara Alibraheem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noura%20Alsaleh"> Noura Alsaleh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> For the past few decades or so, Kuwait's local food industry has grown remarkably due to increase in demand for processed or semi processed food products in the market. It is important that the ever increasing food manufacturing/processing units maintain the required quality standards as per regional and to some extent international quality requirements. It has been realized that all Kuwait food manufacturing units should understand and follow the international standard practices, and moreover a set of guidelines must be set for quality assurance such that any new business in this area is aware of the minimum requirements. The current study has been undertaken to identify the gaps in Kuwait food industries in following the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in terms of quality planning, control and quality assurance. GMP refers to Good Manufacturing Practices, which are a set of rules, laws or regulations that certify producing products within quality standards and ensuring that it is safe, pure and effective. The present study therefore reports about a ‘case study’ in a reputed food manufacturing unit in Kuwait; starting from assessment of the current practices followed by diagnosis, report of the diagnosis and road map and corrective measures for GMP implementation in the unit. The case study has also been able to identify the best practices and establish a benchmarking data for other companies to follow, through measuring the selected company's quality, policies, products and strategies and compare it with the established benchmarking data. A set of questionnaires and assessment mechanism has been established for companies to identify their ‘benchmarking score’ in relation to the number of non-conformities and conformities with the GMP standard requirements. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=good%20manufacturing%20practices" title="good manufacturing practices">good manufacturing practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GMP" title=" GMP"> GMP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmarking" title=" benchmarking"> benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuwait%20Food%20Industries" title=" Kuwait Food Industries"> Kuwait Food Industries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=food%20quality" title=" food quality"> food quality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9184/conducting-quality-planning-assurance-and-control-according-to-gmp-good-manufacturing-practices-standards-and-benchmarking-data-for-kuwait-food-industries" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9184.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">469</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12963</span> Benchmarking of Pentesting Tools</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esteban%20Alejandro%20Armas%20Vega">Esteban Alejandro Armas Vega</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Lucila%20Sandoval%20Orozco"> Ana Lucila Sandoval Orozco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20Javier%20Garc%C3%ADa%20Villalba"> Luis Javier García Villalba</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The benchmarking of tools for dynamic analysis of vulnerabilities in web applications is something that is done periodically, because these tools from time to time update their knowledge base and search algorithms, in order to improve their accuracy. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these evaluations are made by software enthusiasts who publish their results on blogs or on non-academic websites and always with the same evaluation methodology. Similarly, academics who have carried out this type of analysis from a scientific approach, the majority, make their analysis within the same methodology as well the empirical authors. This paper is based on the interest of finding answers to questions that many users of this type of tools have been asking over the years, such as, to know if the tool truly test and evaluate every vulnerability that it ensures do, or if the tool, really, deliver a real report of all the vulnerabilities tested and exploited. This kind of questions have also motivated previous work but without real answers. The aim of this paper is to show results that truly answer, at least on the tested tools, all those unanswered questions. All the results have been obtained by changing the common model of benchmarking used for all those previous works. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cybersecurity" title="cybersecurity">cybersecurity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IDS" title=" IDS"> IDS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=security" title=" security"> security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=web%20scanners" title=" web scanners"> web scanners</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=web%20vulnerabilities" title=" web vulnerabilities"> web vulnerabilities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70338/benchmarking-of-pentesting-tools" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70338.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">319</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12962</span> Assessing Environmental Urban Sustainability Using Multivariate Analysis: A Case of Nagpur, India</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anusha%20Vaddiraj%20Pallapu">Anusha Vaddiraj Pallapu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Measuring urban sustainable development is at the forefront in contributing to overall sustainability, and it refers to attaining social equity, environmental protection and minimizing the impacts of urbanization. This 4-year project has 18 partners and aims at improving the management of contaminated materials arising from decommissioning and dismantling (D&D) operations by proposing an integrated methodology of characterization. This methodology is based on advanced statistical processing and modelling, coupled with adapted and innovative analytical and measurement methods, with respect to sustainability and economic objectives. In order to achieve these objectives, the approaches will be then applied to common case studies in the form of Inter-laboratory comparisons on matrix representative reference samples and benchmarking. Work Package 6 (WP6) ‘Performance analysis and overall uncertainty’ is in charge of the analysis of the benchmarking on real samples, the organisation of inter-laboratory comparison on synthetic certified reference materials and the establishment of overall uncertainty budget. Assessment of the outcome will be used for providing recommendations and guidance resulting in pre-standardization tests. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decommissioning" title="decommissioning">decommissioning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sampling%20strategy" title=" sampling strategy"> sampling strategy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=research%20and%20development" title=" research and development"> research and development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=characterization" title=" characterization"> characterization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=European%20project" title=" European project"> European project</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84947/the-european-research-and-development-project-improved-nuclear-site-characterization-for-waste-minimization-in-decommissioning-under-constrained-environment-focus-on-performance-analysis-and-overall-uncertainty" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84947.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">365</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12958</span> KPI and Tool for the Evaluation of Competency in Warehouse Management for Furniture Business</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kritchakhris%20Na-Wattanaprasert">Kritchakhris Na-Wattanaprasert</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objective of this research is to design and develop a prototype of a key performance indicator system this is suitable for warehouse management in a case study and use requirement. It predicts how far each pixel in the 2D image is from the capturing point. There are some important Monocular Depth Estimation (MDE) studies that are based on Vision Transformers (ViT). We benchmark three major studies. The first work aims to build a simple and powerful foundation model that deals with any images under any condition. The second work proposes a method by mixing multiple datasets during training and a robust training objective. The third work combines generalization performance and state-of-the-art results on specific datasets. Although there are studies with thermal images too, we wanted to benchmark these three non-thermal, state-of-the-art studies with a hybrid image dataset which is taken by Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX) technology. MSX technology produces detailed thermal images by bringing together the thermal and visual spectrums. Using this technology, our dataset images are not blur and poorly detailed as the normal thermal images. On the other hand, they are not taken at the perfect light conditions as RGB images. We compared three methods under test with our thermal dataset which was not done before. Additionally, we propose an image enhancement deep learning model for thermal data. This model helps extract the features required for monocular depth estimation. The experimental results demonstrate that, after using our proposed model, the performance of these three methods under test increased significantly for thermal image depth prediction. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=monocular%20depth%20estimation" title="monocular depth estimation">monocular depth estimation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20dataset" title=" thermal dataset"> thermal dataset</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmarking" title=" benchmarking"> benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vision%20transformers" title=" vision transformers"> vision transformers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186398/monocular-depth-estimation-benchmarking-with-thermal-dataset" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186398.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">34</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12956</span> Cluster Analysis and Benchmarking for Performance Optimization of a Pyrochlore Processing Unit</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20C.%20R.%20P.%20Ferreira">Ana C. These results could be improved and standardized if the blend composition parameters that most influence the processing route are determined, and then the types of raw materials are grouped by them, finally presenting a great reference with operational settings for each group. Associating the physical and chemical parameters of a unit operation through benchmarking or even an optimal reference of metallurgical recovery and product quality reflects in the reduction of the production costs, optimization of the mineral resource, and guarantee of greater stability in the subsequent processes of the production chain that uses the mineral of interest. Conducting a comprehensive exploratory data analysis to identify which characteristics of the ore are most relevant to the process route, associated with the use of Machine Learning algorithms for grouping the raw material (ore) and associating these with reference variables in the process’ benchmark is a reasonable alternative for the standardization and improvement of mineral processing units. Clustering methods through Decision Tree and K-Means were employed, associated with algorithms based on the theory of benchmarking, with criteria defined by the process team in order to reference the best adjustments for processing the ore piles of each cluster. A clean user interface was created to obtain the outputs of the created algorithm. The results were measured through the average time of adjustment and stabilization of the process after a new pile of homogenized ore enters the plant, as well as the average time needed to achieve the best processing result. Direct gains from the metallurgical recovery of the process were also measured. The results were promising, with a reduction in the adjustment time and stabilization when starting the processing of a new ore pile, as well as reaching the benchmark. Also noteworthy are the gains in metallurgical recovery, which reflect a significant saving in ore consumption and a consequent reduction in production costs, hence a more rational use of the tailings dams and life optimization of the mineral deposit. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mineral%20clustering" title="mineral clustering">mineral clustering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process%20optimization" title=" process optimization"> process optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pyrochlore%20processing" title=" pyrochlore processing"> pyrochlore processing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130246/cluster-analysis-and-benchmarking-for-performance-optimization-of-a-pyrochlore-processing-unit" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130246.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">144</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12955</span> Multidisciplinary and Multilevel Design Methodology of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles using Enhanced Collaborative Optimization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pedro%20F.%20Albuquerque">Pedro F. A benchmarking case study for evaluating the advantage of using a variable span wing within the optimization methodology developed is presented. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multidisciplinary" title="multidisciplinary">multidisciplinary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multilevel" title=" multilevel"> multilevel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphing" title=" morphing"> morphing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enhanced%20collaborative%20optimization" title=" enhanced collaborative optimization"> enhanced collaborative optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18259/multidisciplinary-and-multilevel-design-methodology-of-unmanned-aerial-vehicles-using-enhanced-collaborative-optimization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18259.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">930</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12954</span> MCDM Spectrum Handover Models for Cognitive Wireless Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20Hern%C3%A1ndez">Cesar Hernández</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Diego%20Giral"> Diego Giral</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fernando%20Santa"> Fernando Santa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The spectral handoff is important in cognitive wireless networks to ensure an adequate quality of service and performance for secondary user communications. This work proposes a benchmarking of performance of the three spectrum handoff models: VIKOR, SAW and MEW. Four evaluation metrics are used. These metrics are, accumulative average of failed handoffs, accumulative average of handoffs performed, accumulative average of transmission bandwidth and, accumulative average of the transmission delay. As a difference with related work, the performance of the three spectrum handoff models was validated with captured data of spectral occupancy in experiments realized at the GSM frequency band (824 MHz-849 MHz). These data represent the actual behavior of the licensed users for this wireless frequency band. The results of the comparative show that VIKOR Algorithm provides 15.8% performance improvement compared to a SAW Algorithm and, 12.1% better than the MEW Algorithm. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20radio" title="cognitive radio">cognitive radio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decision%20making" title=" decision making"> decision making</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MEW" title=" MEW"> MEW</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SAW" title=" SAW"> SAW</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectrum%20handoff" title=" spectrum handoff"> spectrum handoff</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VIKOR" title=" VIKOR"> VIKOR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33174/mcdm-spectrum-handover-models-for-cognitive-wireless-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33174.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">439</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12953</span> Parametrization of Piezoelectric Vibration Energy Harvesters for Low Power Embedded Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yannick%20Verbelen">Yannick Verbelen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tim%20Dekegel"> Tim Dekegel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ann%20Peeters"> Ann Peeters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Klara%20Stinders"> Klara Stinders</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Niek%20Blondeel"> Niek Blondeel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sam%20De%20Winne"> Sam De Winne</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=An%20Braeken"> An Braeken</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdellah%20Touhafi"> Abdellah Touhafi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Matching an embedded electronic application with a cantilever vibration energy harvester remains a difficult endeavour due to the large number of factors influencing the output power. In most efficient plants, hot water and air are generated from the steam supply system. Research has shown that thermal energy utilize in palm oil production plants is about 70 percent of the total energy consumption of the plant. In order to manage the plants’ energy efficiently, the energy systems are modelled and optimized. This paper aimed to present the model of steam supply systems of a typical palm oil production plant in Ghana. The models include exergy and energy models of steam boiler, steam turbine and the palm oil mill. The paper further simulates the virtual plant model to obtain the thermal energy performance of the plant under study. The simulation results show that, under normal operating condition, the boiler energy performance is considerably below the expected level as a result of several factors including intermittent biomass fuel supply, significant moisture content of the biomass fuel and significant heat losses. The total thermal energy performance of the virtual plant is set as a baseline. The study finally recommends number of energy efficiency measures to improve the plant’s energy performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=palm%20biomass" title="palm biomass">palm biomass</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steam%20supply" title=" steam supply"> steam supply</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exergy%20and%20energy%20models" title=" exergy and energy models"> exergy and energy models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20performance%20benchmark" title=" energy performance benchmark"> energy performance benchmark</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78554/modeling-and-benchmarking-the-thermal-energy-performance-of-palm-oil-production-plant" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78554.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">350</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12951</span> Image Recognition Performance Benchmarking for Edge Computing Using Small Visual Processing Unit</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kasidis%20Chomrat">Kasidis Chomrat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nopasit%20Chakpitak"> Nopasit Chakpitak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anukul%20Tamprasirt"> Anukul Tamprasirt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Annop%20Thananchana"> Annop Thananchana</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Internet of Things devices or IoT and Edge Computing has become one of the biggest things happening in innovations and one of the most discussed of the potential to improve and disrupt traditional business and industry alike. In this volatile business sector it is of the utmost importance to implement a strategy of quality differentiation. Vital aspects of a quality differentiation strategy are total quality management, benchmarking and service quality management. Ultimately, restaurant success depends on the continuous support of customers. Customers select restaurants based on their expectations of quality. If the customers' expectations are met, they perceive quality service and will re-patronize the restaurant. The restaurateur can manage perceptions of quality by influencing expectations while ensuring that those expectations are not inflated. The management of expectations can be done by communicating service quality to customers. The aim of this research paper is to describe the development of a grading process for restaurants. An assessment of the extensive body of literature on grading was conducted through content analysis. A standardized method for developing a grading system would assist in successful grading systems that could inform both customers and restaurateurs of restaurant quality. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmarking" title="benchmarking">benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=restaurants" title=" restaurants"> restaurants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grading" title=" grading"> grading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=service%20quality" title=" service quality"> service quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=total%20quality%20management" title=" total quality management"> total quality management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9127/developing-a-grading-system-for-restaurants" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9127.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">338</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12949</span> A Single Cell Omics Experiments as Tool for Benchmarking Bioinformatics Oncology Data Analysis Tools</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maddalena%20Arigoni">Maddalena Arigoni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Luisa%20Ratto"> Maria Luisa Ratto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raffaele%20A.%20Calogero"> Raffaele A. Understanding the causes and progression of cancer requires research efforts aimed at characterizing heterogeneity, which can be facilitated by evolving single-cell sequencing technologies. However, analyzing single-cell data necessitates computational methods that often lack objective validation. Therefore, the establishment of benchmarking datasets is necessary to provide a controlled environment for validating bioinformatics tools in the field of single-cell oncology. Benchmarking bioinformatics tools for single-cell experiments can be costly due to the high expense involved. Therefore, datasets used for benchmarking are typically sourced from publicly available experiments, which often lack a comprehensive cell annotation. This limitation can affect the accuracy and effectiveness of such experiments as benchmarking tools. To address this issue, we introduce omics benchmark experiments designed to evaluate bioinformatics tools to depict the heterogeneity in single-cell tumor experiments. We conducted single-cell RNA sequencing on six lung cancer tumor cell lines that display resistant clones upon treatment of EGFR mutated tumors and are characterized by driver genes, namely ROS1, ALK, HER2, MET, KRAS, and BRAF. These driver genes are associated with downstream networks controlled by EGFR mutations, such as JAK-STAT, PI3K-AKT-mTOR, and MEK-ERK. The experiment also featured an EGFR-mutated cell line. Using 10XGenomics platform with cellplex technology, we analyzed the seven cell lines together with a pseudo-immunological microenvironment consisting of PBMC cells labeled with the Biolegend TotalSeq™-B Human Universal Cocktail (CITEseq). This technology allowed for independent labeling of each cell line and single-cell analysis of the pooled seven cell lines and the pseudo-microenvironment. The data generated from the aforementioned experiments are available as part of an online tool, which allows users to define cell heterogeneity and generates count tables as an output. The tool provides the cell line derivation for each cell and cell annotations for the pseudo-microenvironment based on CITEseq data by an experienced immunologist. Additionally, we created a range of pseudo-tumor tissues using different ratios of the aforementioned cells embedded in matrigel. These tissues were analyzed using 10XGenomics (FFPE samples) and Curio Bioscience (fresh frozen samples) platforms for spatial transcriptomics, further expanding the scope of our benchmark experiments. The benchmark experiments we conducted provide a unique opportunity to evaluate the performance of bioinformatics tools for detecting and characterizing tumor heterogeneity at the single-cell level. Overall, our experiments provide a controlled and standardized environment for assessing the accuracy and robustness of bioinformatics tools for studying tumor heterogeneity at the single-cell level, which can ultimately lead to more precise and effective cancer diagnosis and treatment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20cell%20omics" title="single cell omics">single cell omics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmark" title=" benchmark"> benchmark</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spatial%20transcriptomics" title=" spatial transcriptomics"> spatial transcriptomics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CITEseq" title=" CITEseq"> CITEseq</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165999/a-single-cell-omics-experiments-as-tool-for-benchmarking-bioinformatics-oncology-data-analysis-tools" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165999.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">119</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12948</span> Developing a Knowledge-Based Lean Six Sigma Model to Improve Healthcare Leadership Performance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yousuf%20N.%20Al%20Khamisi">Yousuf N. Design/methodology/approach: Using L6σ principles to enhance healthcare leaders’ performance needs a pre-assessment of the healthcare organisation’s capabilities. The model will be developed using a rule-based approach of KB system. Thus, KB system embeds Gauging Absence of Pre-requisite (GAP) for benchmarking and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) for prioritization. A comprehensive literature review will be covered for the main contents of the model with a typical output of GAP analysis and AHP. Findings: The proposed KB system benchmarks the current position of healthcare leadership with the ideal benchmark one (resulting from extensive evaluation by the KB/GAP/AHP system of international leadership concepts in healthcare environments). Research limitations/implications: Future work includes validating the implementation model in healthcare environments around the world. Originality/value: This paper presents a novel application of a hybrid KB combines of GAP and AHP methodology. It implements L6σ principles to enhance healthcare performance. This approach assists healthcare leaders’ decision making to reach performance improvement against a best practice benchmark. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lean%20Six%20Sigma%20%28L6%CF%83%29" title="Lean Six Sigma (L6σ)">Lean Six Sigma (L6σ)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Knowledge-Based%20System%20%28KBS%29" title=" Knowledge-Based System (KBS)"> Knowledge-Based System (KBS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=healthcare%20leadership" title=" healthcare leadership"> healthcare leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gauge%20Absence%20Prerequisites%20%28GAP%29" title=" Gauge Absence Prerequisites (GAP)"> Gauge Absence Prerequisites (GAP)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Analytical%20Hierarchy%20Process%20%28AHP%29" title=" Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)"> Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82138/developing-a-knowledge-based-lean-six-sigma-model-to-improve-healthcare-leadership-performance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82138.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">167</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12947</span> Elements of Sector Benchmarking in Physical Education Curriculum: An Indian Perspective</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kalpana%20Sharma">Kalpana Sharma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jyoti%20Mann"> Jyoti Mann</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The study was designed towards institutional analysis for a clear understanding of the process involved in functioning and layout of determinants influencing physical education teacher’s education program in India. This further can be recommended for selection of parameters for creating sector benchmarking for physical education teachers training institutions across India. 165 stakeholders involving students, teachers, parents, administrators were surveyed from the identified seven institutions and universities from different states of India. They were surveyed on the basis of seven broad parameters which were associated with the post graduate physical education program in India. A physical education program assessment tool of 52 items was designed to administer it among the stakeholders selected for the survey. An item analysis of the contents was concluded through the review process from selected experts working in higher education with experience in teacher training program in physical education. The data was collected from the stakeholders of the selected institutions through Physical Education Program Assessment Tool (PEPAT). The hypothesis that PE teacher education program is independent of physical education institutions was significant. The study directed a need towards robust admission process emphasizing on identification, selection of potential candidates and quality control of intake with the scientific process developed according to the Indian education policies and academic structure. The results revealed that the universities do not have similar functional and delivery process related to the physical education teacher training program. The study reflects towards the need for physical education universities and institutions to identify the best practices to be followed regarding the functioning of delivery of physical education programs at various institutions through strategic management studies on the identified parameters before establishing strict standards and norms for achieving excellence in physical education in India. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assessment" title="assessment">assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmarking" title=" benchmarking"> benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=curriculum" title=" curriculum"> curriculum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20education" title=" physical education"> physical education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teacher%20education" title=" teacher education"> teacher education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63776/elements-of-sector-benchmarking-in-physical-education-curriculum-an-indian-perspective" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63776.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">561</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12946</span> Performance Comparison of Thread-Based and Event-Based Web Servers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aikaterini%20Kentroti">Aikaterini Kentroti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Theodore%20H.%20Kaskalis"> Theodore H. In this paper, we evaluate experimentally and compare the performance as well as the resource utilization of popular web servers, which differ in their approach to handle concurrency. More specifically, Central Processing Unit (CPU)- and I/O intensive tests were conducted against the thread-based Apache and Go as well as the event-based Nginx and Node.js under increasing concurrent load. The tests involved concurrent users requesting a term of the Fibonacci sequence (the 10th, 20th, 30th) and the content of a table from the database. The results show that Go achieved the best performance in all benchmark tests. For example, Go reached two times higher throughput than Node.js and five times higher than Apache and Nginx in the 20th Fibonacci term test. In addition, Go had the smallest memory footprint and demonstrated the most efficient resource utilization, in terms of CPU usage. Instead, Node.js had by far the largest memory footprint, consuming up to 90% more memory than Nginx and Apache. Regarding the performance of Apache and Nginx, our findings indicate that Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) becomes a bottleneck when the servers are requested to respond by performing CPU-intensive tasks under increasing concurrent load. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=apache" title="apache">apache</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Go" title=" Go"> Go</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nginx" title=" Nginx"> Nginx</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=node.js" title=" node.js"> node.js</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=web%20server%20benchmarking" title=" web server benchmarking"> web server benchmarking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162116/performance-comparison-of-thread-based-and-event-based-web-servers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162116.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">99</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12945</span> Benchmarking Electric Light versus Sunshine</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Courret%20Gilles">Courret Gilles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pidoux%20Damien"> Pidoux Damien</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Considering that sunshine is the ultimate reference in lighting, we have examined the spectral correlation between a series of electric light sources and sunlight. As the latter is marked by fluctuations, we have taken two spectra of reference: on the one hand, the CIE daylight standard illuminant, and on the other hand, the global illumination by the clear sky with the sun at 30° above the horizon. We determined the coefficients of correlation between the spectra filtered by the sensitivity of the CIE standard observer for photopic vision. We also calculated the luminous efficiency of the radiation in order to compare the ideal energy performances as well as the CIE color indexes Ra, Ra14, and Rf, since the choice of a light source requires a trade-off between color rendering and luminous efficiency. The benchmarking includes the most commonly used bulbs, various white LED (Lighting Emitting Diode) of warm white or cold white types, incandescent halogen as well as two HID lamps (High-Intensity Discharge) and two plasma lamps of different types, a solar simulator and a new version of the sulfur lamp. The latter obtains the best correlation, whether in comparison with the solar spectrum or that of the standard illuminant. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electric%20light%20sources" title="electric light sources">electric light sources</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plasma%20lamp" title=" plasma lamp"> plasma lamp</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=daylighting" title=" daylighting"> daylighting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sunlight" title=" sunlight"> sunlight</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20correlation" title=" spectral correlation"> spectral correlation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92368/benchmarking-electric-light-versus-sunshine" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92368.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">185</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12944</span> Digital Transformation: Actionable Insights to Optimize the Building Performance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jovian%09Cheung">Jovian Cheung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%09%20Kwok"> Thomas Kwok</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Victor%20Wong"> Victor Wong</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Buildings are entwined with smart city developments. Building performance relies heavily on electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems and services accounting for about 40 percent of global energy use. By cohering the advancement of technology as well as energy and operation-efficient initiatives into the buildings, people are enabled to raise building performance and enhance the sustainability of the built environment in their daily lives. Digital transformation in the buildings is the profound development of the city to leverage the changes and opportunities of digital technologies To optimize the building performance, intelligent power quality and energy management system is developed for transforming data into actions. The system is formed by interfacing and integrating legacy metering and internet of things technologies in the building and applying big data techniques. It provides operation and energy profile and actionable insights of a building, which enables to optimize the building performance through raising people awareness on E&M services and energy consumption, predicting the operation of E&M systems, benchmarking the building performance, and prioritizing assets and energy management opportunities. The intelligent power quality and energy management system comprises four elements, namely the Integrated Building Performance Map, Building Performance Dashboard, Power Quality Analysis, and Energy Performance Analysis. It provides predictive operation sequence of E&M systems response to the built environment and building activities. The system collects the live operating conditions of E&M systems over time to identify abnormal system performance, predict failure trends and alert users before anticipating system failure. The actionable insights collected can also be used for system design enhancement in future. This paper will illustrate how intelligent power quality and energy management system provides operation and energy profile to optimize the building performance and actionable insights to revitalize an existing building into a smart building. The system is driving building performance optimization and supporting in developing Hong Kong into a suitable smart city to be admired. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intelligent%20buildings" title="intelligent buildings">intelligent buildings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20of%20things%20technologies" title=" internet of things technologies"> internet of things technologies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=big%20data%20analytics" title=" big data analytics"> big data analytics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=predictive%20operation%20and%20maintenance" title=" predictive operation and maintenance"> predictive operation and maintenance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20performance" title=" building performance"> building performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102233/digital-transformation-actionable-insights-to-optimize-the-building-performance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102233.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">159</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12943</span> Performance Tracking of Thermal Plant Systems of Kuwait and Impact on the Environment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Alharbi">Abdullah Alharbi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: This research seeks to take a holistic strategic evaluation of the thermal power plants in Kuwait at both policy and technical level in order to allow a systematic retrofitting program. The overall impact of thermal power plant installations manifests indisposed of seawater and the health of marine life. Design/methodology/approach: The research adopts a case study based evaluation of performance data and documents of thermal plant installations in Kuwait. Findings: Research findings on the performance of existing thermal plants demand policy benchmarking with internationally acceptable standards in order to create clarity on decisions regarding demolition, retrofitting, or renewal. Research implications: This research has the potential to strategically inform and influence the piecemeal changes to power plants, including the replacement of power generation equipment, considering the varied technologies for thermal plants. Originality/value: This research provides evidence based data that can be useful for influencing operational efficiency after a holistic evaluation of existing capacity in comparison with future demands. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy" title="energy">energy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuwait" title=" Kuwait"> Kuwait</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance" title=" performance"> performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stainability" title=" stainability"> stainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tracking" title=" tracking"> tracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20plant" title=" thermal plant"> thermal plant</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149671/performance-tracking-of-thermal-plant-systems-of-kuwait-and-impact-on-the-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149671.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">98</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12942</span> A Neural Network Classifier for Identifying Duplicate Image Entries in Real-Estate Databases</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sergey%20Ermolin">Sergey Ermolin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olga%20Ermolin"> Olga Ermolin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A Deep Convolution Neural Network with Triplet Loss is used to identify duplicate images in real-estate advertisements in the presence of image artifacts such as watermarking, cropping, hue/brightness adjustment, and others. The effects of batch normalization, spatial dropout, and various convergence methodologies on the resulting detection accuracy are discussed. For comparative Return-on-Investment study (per industry request), end-2-end performance is benchmarked on both Nvidia Titan GPUs and Intel’s Xeon CPUs. A new real-estate dataset from San Francisco Bay Area is used for this work. Sufficient duplicate detection accuracy is achieved to supplement other database-grounded methods of duplicate removal. The implemented method is used in a Proof-of-Concept project in the real-estate industry. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
