for I, the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>, am a jealous<MH7067> God<MH410>, inflicting<MH6485> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>punishment<MH5771> of the fathers<MH1> on the children<MH1121>, on the third<MH8029> and the fourth<MH7256> generations of those who hate<MH8130> Me, <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>but showing<MH6213a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>favor<MH2617a> to thousands<MH505>, to those who love<MH157> Me and keep<MH8104> My commandments<MH4687>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>“You shall not take<MH5375> the name<MH8034> of the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> in vain<MH7723>, for the LORD<MH3068> will not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>leave<MH5352> him unpunished<MH5352> who<MH834> takes<MH5375> His name<MH8034> in vain<MH7723>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“Remember<MH2142> the Sabbath<MH7676> day<MH3117>, to keep<MH6942> it holy<MH6942>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>For six<MH8337a> days<MH3117> you shall labor<MH5647> and do<MH6213a> all<MH3605> your work<MH4399>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>but the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117> is a Sabbath<MH7676> of the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>; for that<MH3651> reason<MH3651> the LORD<MH3068> blessed<MH1288> the Sabbath<MH7676> day<MH3117> and made<MH6942> it holy<MH6942>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“Honor<MH3513> your father<MH1> and your mother<MH517>, so<MH4616> that<MH4616> your days<MH3117> may be prolonged<MH748> on the land<MH127> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> gives<MH5414> you. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>“You shall not murder<MH7523>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>“You shall not commit<MH5003> adultery<MH5003>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“You shall not steal<MH1589>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“You shall not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>give<MH6030a> false<MH8267> testimony<MH5707> against your neighbor<MH7453>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>“You shall not covet<MH2530> your neighbor’s<MH7453> house<MH1004>; you shall not covet<MH2530> your neighbor’s<MH7453> wife<MH802>, or his male<MH5650> slave<MH5650>, or his female<MH519> slave<MH519>, or his ox<MH7794>, or his donkey<MH2543>, or anything<MH3605> that belongs to your neighbor<MH7453>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> were watching<MH7200> <i>and hearing</i> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>thunder<MH6963> and the lightning<MH3940> flashes<MH3940>, and the sound<MH6963> of the trumpet<MH7782>, and the mountain<MH2022> smoking<MH6226>; and when the people<MH5971a> saw<MH7200> <i>it all,</i> they trembled<MH5128> and stood<MH5975> at a distance<MH7350>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then they said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Speak<MH1696> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>to us yourself<MH859> and we will listen<MH8085>; but do not have God<MH430> speak<MH1696> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>to us, or<MH6435> we will die<MH4191>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>However, Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to the people<MH5971a>, “Do not be<MH3372a> afraid<MH3372a>; for God<MH430> has come<MH935> in order<MH5668> to test<MH5254> you, and in order<MH5668> that the fear<MH3374> of Him may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>remain<MH1961, 6440> with you, so that you will not sin<MH2398>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>So the people<MH5971a> stood<MH5975> at a distance<MH7350>, while Moses<MH4872> approached<MH5066> the thick<MH6205> darkness<MH6205> where<MH834, 8033> God<MH430> <i>was.</i> <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> you shall say<MH559> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>: ‘You yourselves<MH864b> have seen<MH7200> that I have spoken<MH1696> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>to you from heaven<MH8064>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>You shall not make<MH6213a> <i>other gods</i> besides<MH854> Me; gods<MH430> of silver<MH3701> or gods<MH430> of gold<MH2091>, you shall not make<MH6213a> for yourselves<MH864b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/20-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>You shall make<MH6213a> an altar<MH4196> of earth<MH127> for Me, and you shall sacrifice<MH2076> on it your burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> and your peace<MH8002> offerings<MH8002>, your sheep<MH6629> and your oxen<MH1241>;
