This approach, however, does not differentiate between amplitude and frequency modulations, AM and FM, respectfully. It was experimentally shown that both modulations could be present in the spectrum, yet each modulation may be associated with different physical mechanisms. AM mechanisms are quite well understood and widely covered in the literature. This paper is a first attempt to explain the generation mechanisms of FM and its correlation with the flaw properties. Here we proposed two possible mechanisms leading to FM modulation based on nonlinear local defect resonance and dynamic acousto-elastic models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-destructive%20testing" title="non-destructive testing">non-destructive testing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20acoustics" title=" nonlinear acoustics"> nonlinear acoustics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural%20health%20monitoring" title=" structural health monitoring"> structural health monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acousto-elasticity" title=" acousto-elasticity"> acousto-elasticity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=local%20defect%20resonance" title=" local defect resonance"> local defect resonance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149507/frequency-modulation-in-vibro-acoustic-modulation-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149507.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">152</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1661</span> Experimental Demonstration of an Ultra-Low Power Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser for Optical Power Generation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Nazhan">S. The optical output power response, as a function of the pumping current, modulation frequency, and amplitude, is measured for an 850 nm VCSEL. We demonstrate that modulation frequency and amplitude play important roles in reducing the VCSEL&rsquo;s power consumption for optical generation. Indeed, even when the biasing current is below the static threshold, the VCSEL emits optical power under the square wave modulation. The power consumed by the device to generate light is significantly reduced to &gt; 50%, which is below the threshold current, in response to both the modulation frequency and amplitude. An operating VCSEL device at low power is very desirable for less thermal effects, which are essential for a high-speed modulation bandwidth. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vertical-cavity%20surface-emitting%20lasers" title="vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers">vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VCSELs" title=" VCSELs"> VCSELs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20power%20generation" title=" optical power generation"> optical power generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20consumption" title=" power consumption"> power consumption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=square%20wave%20modulation" title=" square wave modulation"> square wave modulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123396/experimental-demonstration-of-an-ultra-low-power-vertical-cavity-surface-emitting-laser-for-optical-power-generation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123396.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">165</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1660</span> Design Optimization and Thermoacoustic Analysis of Pulse Tube Cryocooler Components</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=K.%20Aravinth">K. The underlying idea of this project is to optimize the design of pulse tube, regenerator, a resonator in cryocooler and analyzing the thermo-acoustic oscillations with respect to the design parameters. Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) model with time-dependent validation is done to predict its performance. The continuity, momentum, and energy equations are solved for various porous media regions. The effect of changing the geometries and orientation will be validated and investigated in performance. The pressure, temperature and velocity fields in the regenerator and pulse tube are evaluated. This optimized design performance results will be compared with the existing pulse tube cryocooler design. The sinusoidal behavior of cryocooler in acoustic streaming patterns in pulse tube cryocooler will also be evaluated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acoustics" title="acoustics">acoustics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cryogenics" title=" cryogenics"> cryogenics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design" title=" design"> design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title=" optimization"> optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82751/design-optimization-and-thermoacoustic-analysis-of-pulse-tube-cryocooler-components" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82751.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">175</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1659</span> Vibroacoustic Modulation with Chirp Signal</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong%20Liu">Dong Liu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> By sending a high-frequency probe wave and a low-frequency pump wave to a specimen, the vibroacoustic method evaluates the defect’s severity according to the modulation index of the received signal. Many studies experimentally proved the significant sensitivity of the modulation index to the tiny contact type defect. However, it has also been found that the modulation index was highly affected by the frequency of probe or pump waves. Therefore, the chirp signal has been introduced to the VAM method since it can assess multiple frequencies in a relatively short time duration, so the robustness of the VAM method could be enhanced. Consequently, the signal processing method needs to be modified accordingly. Various studies utilized different algorithms or combinations of algorithms for processing the VAM signal method by chirp excitation. These signal process methods were compared and used for processing a VAM signal acquired from the steel samples. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibroacoustic%20modulation" title="vibroacoustic modulation">vibroacoustic modulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20acoustic%20modulation" title=" nonlinear acoustic modulation"> nonlinear acoustic modulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20acoustic%20NDT%26E" title=" nonlinear acoustic NDT&amp;E"> nonlinear acoustic NDT&amp;E</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=signal%20processing" title=" signal processing"> signal processing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural%20health%20monitoring" title=" structural health monitoring"> structural health monitoring</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155764/vibroacoustic-modulation-with-chirp-signal" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155764.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">99</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1658</span> Long Wavelength Coherent Pulse of Sound Propagating in Granular Media</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rohit%20Kumar%20Shrivastava">Rohit Kumar Shrivastava</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amalia%20Thomas"> Amalia Thomas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nathalie%20Vriend"> Nathalie Vriend</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stefan%20Luding"> Stefan Luding</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A mechanical wave or vibration propagating through granular media exhibits a specific signature in time. A coherent pulse or wavefront arrives first with multiply scattered waves (coda) arriving later. The coherent pulse is micro-structure independent i.e. it depends only on the bulk properties of the disordered granular sample, the sound wave velocity of the granular sample and hence bulk and shear moduli. The coherent wavefront attenuates (decreases in amplitude) and broadens with distance from its source. The pulse attenuation and broadening effects are affected by disorder (polydispersity; contrast in size of the granules) and have often been attributed to dispersion and scattering. To study the effect of disorder and initial amplitude (non-linearity) of the pulse imparted to the system on the coherent wavefront, numerical simulations have been carried out on one-dimensional sets of particles (granular chains). The interaction force between the particles is given by a Hertzian contact model. The sizes of particles have been selected randomly from a Gaussian distribution, where the standard deviation of this distribution is the relevant parameter that quantifies the effect of disorder on the coherent wavefront. Since, the coherent wavefront is system configuration independent, ensemble averaging has been used for improving the signal quality of the coherent pulse and removing the multiply scattered waves. The results concerning the width of the coherent wavefront have been formulated in terms of scaling laws. An experimental set-up of photoelastic particles constituting a granular chain is proposed to validate the numerical results. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20elements" title="discrete elements">discrete elements</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hertzian%20contact" title=" Hertzian contact"> Hertzian contact</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polydispersity" title=" polydispersity"> polydispersity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weakly%20nonlinear" title=" weakly nonlinear"> weakly nonlinear</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wave%20propagation" title=" wave propagation"> wave propagation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73014/long-wavelength-coherent-pulse-of-sound-propagating-in-granular-media" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73014.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">204</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1657</span> Dynamics of Chirped RZ Modulation Format in GEPON Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Network </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anurag%20Sharma">Anurag Sharma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manoj%20Kumar"> Manoj Kumar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashima"> Ashima</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sooraj%20Parkash"> Sooraj Parkash</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The work in this paper presents simulative comparison for different modulation formats such as NRZ, Manchester and CRZ in a 100 subscribers at 5 Gbps bit rate Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) FTTH network. It facilitates the transmission at the data rates in excess of 200 Gbit/s. An SIW mimics a rectangular waveguide by approximating the closed sidewalls with a via fence. This structure suppresses the low frequency components and makes the channel of the SIW a bandpass or high pass filter. This channel characteristic impedes the conventional baseband transmission using non-return-to-zero (NRZ) pulse shaping scheme. Therefore, mixers are commonly proposed to be used as carrier modulator and demodulator in order to facilitate a passband transmission. However, carrier modulation is not an energy efficient solution, because modulation and demodulation at high frequencies consume a lot of energy. For the first time to our knowledge, this paper proposes a spectrum shaping scheme of low complexity for the channel of SIW, namely spread reshaping code. It aims at matching the spectrum of the transmit signal to the channel frequency response. It facilitates the transmission through the SIW channel while it avoids using carrier modulation. In some cases, it even does not need equalization. Simulations reveal a good performance of this scheme, such that, as a result, eye opening is achieved without any equalization or modulation for the respective transmission channels. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bandpass%20channel" title="bandpass channel">bandpass channel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eye-opening" title=" eye-opening"> eye-opening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=switching%20frequency" title=" switching frequency"> switching frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=substrate-integrated%20waveguide" title=" substrate-integrated waveguide"> substrate-integrated waveguide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectrum%20shaping%20scheme" title=" spectrum shaping scheme"> spectrum shaping scheme</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spread%20reshaping%20code" title=" spread reshaping code"> spread reshaping code</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97740/an-energy-efficient-spectrum-shaping-scheme-for-substrate-integrated-waveguides-based-on-spread-reshaping-code" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97740.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1653</span> Jitter Based Reconstruction of Transmission Line Pulse Using On-Chip Sensor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bhuvnesh%20Narayanan">Bhuvnesh Narayanan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bernhard%20Weiss"> Bernhard Weiss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tvrtko%20Mandic"> Tvrtko Mandic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adrijan%20Baric"> Adrijan Baric</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper discusses a method to reconstruct internal high-frequency signals through subsampling techniques in an IC using an on-chip sensor. Though there are existing methods to internally probe and reconstruct high frequency signals through subsampling techniques; these methods have been applicable mainly for synchronized systems. This paper demonstrates a method for making such non-intrusive on-chip reconstructions possible also in non-synchronized systems. The TLP pulse is used to demonstrate the experimental validation of the concept. The on-chip sensor measures the voltage in an internal node. The jitter in the input pulse causes a varying pulse delay with respect to the on-chip sampling command. By measuring this pulse delay and by correlating it with the measured on-chip voltage, time domain waveforms can be reconstructed, and the influence of the pulse on the internal nodes can be better understood. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=on-chip%20sensor" title="on-chip sensor">on-chip sensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=jitter" title=" jitter"> jitter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transmission%20line%20pulse" title=" transmission line pulse"> transmission line pulse</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subsampling" title=" subsampling"> subsampling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122702/jitter-based-reconstruction-of-transmission-line-pulse-using-on-chip-sensor" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122702.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">145</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1652</span> Study and Design of Solar Inverter System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20A.%20Madi">Khaled A. Due to rapid increase in industrial as well as domestic needs, solar energy becomes a good candidate for safe and easy to handle energy source, especially after it becomes available due to reduction of manufacturing price. The main part of the solar inverter system is the inverter where the DC is inverted to AC, where we try to minimize the loss of power to the minimum possible level by the use of microcontroller. In this work, a deep investigation is made experimentally as well as theoretically for a microcontroller based variable frequency power inverter. The microcontroller will provide the variable frequency Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal that will control the switching of the gate of the Insulating Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) with less harmonics at the output of power inverter which can be fed to the public grid at high quality. The proposed work for single phase as well as three phases is also simulated using Matlab/Simulink where we found a good agreement between the simulated and the practical results, even though the experimental work were done in the laboratory of the academy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar" title="solar">solar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inverter" title=" inverter"> inverter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PV" title=" PV"> PV</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20inverter%20system" title=" solar inverter system"> solar inverter system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9073/study-and-design-of-solar-inverter-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9073.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">462</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1651</span> Differential Signaling Spread-Spectrum Modulation of the In-Door LED Visible Light Wireless Communications using Mobile-Phone Camera</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shih-Hao%20Chen">Shih-Hao Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chi-Wai%20Chow"> Chi-Wai Chow</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Visible light communication combined with spread spectrum modulation is demonstrated in this study. Firstly, the radar signal is transformed into the time-frequency image by Choi-Williams Distribution (CWD). Secondly, we propose an image processing algorithm using the Guided Filter and the threshold selection method, which is combined with the hole filling and the mask operation. Finally, the shallow convolutional neural network (CNN) is combined with the idea of the depth-wise convolution (Dw Conv) and the point-wise convolution (Pw Conv). The proposed CNN is designed to complete image classification and realize modulation recognition of radar signal. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reach 90.83% at 0dB and 71.52% at -8dB. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has a good classification and anti-noise performance in radar signal modulation recognition and other fields. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modulation%20recognition" title="modulation recognition">modulation recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20processing" title=" image processing"> image processing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=composite%20signal" title=" composite signal"> composite signal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=improved%20Canny%20algorithm" title=" improved Canny algorithm"> improved Canny algorithm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/139350/icanny-cnn-modulation-recognition-algorithm" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/139350.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">191</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1648</span> Efficient Variable Modulation Scheme Based on Codebook in the MIMO-OFDM System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yong-Jun%20Kim">Yong-Jun Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jae-Hyun%20Ro"> Jae-Hyun Ro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chang-Bin%20Ha"> Chang-Bin Ha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyoung-Kyu%20Song"> Hyoung-Kyu Song</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Because current wireless communication requires high reliability in a limited bandwidth environment, this paper proposes the variable modulation scheme based on the codebook. We show that this modulation enhancement is a type of photon-photon resonance (PPR) of oscillating modes in the external cavity formed between the laser and the external reflector. The study is based on a time-delay rate equation model that takes into account both the strong feedback and multiple reflections in the external cavity. We examine the harmonic and intermodulation distortions associated with single and two-tone modulations in the mm-wave band of the resonant modulation. We show that compared with solitary lasers modulated around the carrier-photon resonance frequency, the present mm-wave modulated signal has lower distortions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semiconductor%20laser" title="semiconductor laser">semiconductor laser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20feedback" title=" optical feedback"> optical feedback</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modulation" title=" modulation"> modulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=harmonic%20distortion" title=" harmonic distortion"> harmonic distortion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10588/application-of-strong-optical-feedback-to-enhance-the-modulation-bandwidth-of-semiconductor-lasers-to-the-millimeter-wave-band" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10588.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">747</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1646</span> The Impact of Urethral Plate Width on Surgical Outcomes After Distal Hypospadias Repair in Children</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrey%20Boyko">Andrey Boyko</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nowadays, there is no consensus about the influence of urethral plate (UP) width on the surgical outcomes after distal hypospadias repair. The purpose of the research was to study the association between UP width and surgical outcomes after distal hypospadias repair in children. Materials and methods: The study included 138 patients with distal hypospadias. The mean age at the time of surgery was 4.6 years (6 months – 16 years). We measured UP width at the “midpoint within the glans” and used the HOSE scale to assess postoperative outcomes. The patients were divided into 2 groups: group 1 – the patients (107) with UP < 8mm, group 2 – patients (31) with UP > 8mm. All boys underwent TIP repair. Preincision means UP width after incision means UP width, and the UP ratio was analyzed. Statistical data were obtained using Statistica 10. Results: The findings were preincision mean UP width - 5.4 mm and 9.4 mm; after incision mean UP width - 13mm and 17.5 mm; UP ratio - 0.41 and 0.53 in group 1 and group 2, respectively. Most postoperative complications (fistula, meatal stenosis, and stricture) happened in patients with UP width < 8 mm versus ≥ 8 mm (7/107 versus 2/31, respectively). HOSE results were 15.77 (group 1), 15.65 (group 2). The follow up lasted up to 12 months. Statistical analysis proved the absence of correlation between UP width and postoperative complications. Conclusions: In conclusion, it should be noted that the success of surgical repair mostly depended on the surgical technique. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=children" title="children">children</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distal%20hypospadias" title=" distal hypospadias"> distal hypospadias</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tip%20repair" title=" tip repair"> tip repair</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urethral%20plate%20width" title=" urethral plate width"> urethral plate width</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149424/the-impact-of-urethral-plate-width-on-surgical-outcomes-after-distal-hypospadias-repair-in-children" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149424.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">123</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1645</span> Switching of Series-Parallel Connected Modules in an Array for Partially Shaded Conditions in a Pollution Intensive Area Using High Powered MOSFETs </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osamede%20Asowata">Osamede Asowata</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christo%20Pienaar"> Christo Pienaar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johan%20Bekker"> Johan Bekker</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Photovoltaic (PV) modules may become a trend for future PV systems because of their greater flexibility in distributed system expansion, easier installation due to their nature, and higher system-level energy harnessing capabilities under shaded or PV manufacturing mismatch conditions. This is as compared to the single or multi-string inverters. Novel residential scale PV arrays are commonly connected to the grid by a single DC–AC inverter connected to a series, parallel or series-parallel string of PV panels, or many small DC–AC inverters which connect one or two panels directly to the AC grid. With an increasing worldwide interest in sustainable energy production and use, there is renewed focus on the power electronic converter interface for DC energy sources. Three specific examples of such DC energy sources that will have a role in distributed generation and sustainable energy systems are the photovoltaic (PV) panel, the fuel cell stack, and batteries of various chemistries. A high-efficiency inverter using Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistors (MOSFETs) for all active switches is presented for a non-isolated photovoltaic and AC-module applications. The proposed configuration features a high efficiency over a wide load range, low ground leakage current and low-output AC-current distortion with no need for split capacitors. The detailed power stage operating principles, pulse width modulation scheme, multilevel bootstrap power supply, and integrated gate drivers for the proposed inverter is described. Experimental results of a hardware prototype, show that not only are MOSFET efficient in the system, it also shows that the ground leakage current issues are alleviated in the proposed inverter and also a 98 % maximum associated driver circuit is achieved. This, in turn, provides the need for a possible photovoltaic panel switching technique. This will help to reduce the effect of cloud movements as well as improve the overall efficiency of the system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grid%20connected%20photovoltaic%20%28PV%29" title="grid connected photovoltaic (PV)">grid connected photovoltaic (PV)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matlab%20efficiency%20simulation" title=" Matlab efficiency simulation"> Matlab efficiency simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maximum%20power%20point%20tracking%20%28MPPT%29" title=" maximum power point tracking (MPPT)"> maximum power point tracking (MPPT)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=module%20integrated%20converters%20%28MICs%29" title=" module integrated converters (MICs)"> module integrated converters (MICs)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multilevel%20converter" title=" multilevel converter"> multilevel converter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=series%20connected%20converter" title=" series connected converter"> series connected converter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107062/switching-of-series-parallel-connected-modules-in-an-array-for-partially-shaded-conditions-in-a-pollution-intensive-area-using-high-powered-mosfets" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107062.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">127</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1644</span> Evaluation of MPPT Algorithms for Photovoltaic Generator by Comparing Incremental Conductance Method, Perturbation and Observation Method and the Method Using Fuzzy Logic</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elmahdi%20Elgharbaoui">Elmahdi Elgharbaoui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamou%20Nasser"> Tamou Nasser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Essadki"> Ahmed Essadki</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the era of sustainable development, photovoltaic (PV) technology has shown significant potential as a renewable energy source. Photovoltaic generators (GPV) have a non-linear current-voltage characteristic, with a maximum power point (MPP) characterized by an optimal voltage, and depends on environmental factors such as temperature and irradiation. To extract each time the maximum power available at the terminals of the GPV and transfer it to the load, an adaptation stage is used, consisting of a boost chopper controlled by a maximum power point tracking technique (MPPT) through a stage of pulse width modulation (PWM). Our choice has focused on three techniques which are: the perturbation and observation method (P&O), the incremental conductance method (InCond) and the last is that of control using the fuzzy logic. The implementation and simulation of the system (photovoltaic generator, chopper boost, PWM and MPPT techniques) are then performed in the Matlab/Simulink environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photovoltaic%20generator" title="photovoltaic generator">photovoltaic generator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technique%20MPPT" title=" technique MPPT"> technique MPPT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=boost%20chopper" title=" boost chopper"> boost chopper</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PWM" title=" PWM"> PWM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20logic" title=" fuzzy logic"> fuzzy logic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=P%26O" title=" P&amp;O"> P&amp;O</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=InCond" title=" InCond"> InCond</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11368/evaluation-of-mppt-algorithms-for-photovoltaic-generator-by-comparing-incremental-conductance-method-perturbation-and-observation-method-and-the-method-using-fuzzy-logic" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11368.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">323</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1643</span> Voice and Head Controlled Intelligent Wheelchair</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dechrit%20Maneetham">Dechrit Maneetham</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this paper was to design a void and head controlled electric power wheelchair (EPW). Axis measures the two directions namely x and y. At the same time, patients can control the motorized wheelchair using voice signals (forward, backward, turn left, turn right, and stop) given by it self. The model of a dc motor is considered as a speed control by selection of a PID parameters using genetic algorithm. An experimental set-up constructed, which consists of micro controller as controller, a DC motor driven EPW and feedback elements. This paper is tuning methods of parameter for a pulse width modulation (PWM) control system. A speed controller has been designed successfully for closed loop of the dc motor so that the motor runs very closed to the reference speed and angle. In this paper we aim to improve the power quality output for H- bridge multilevel inverter used with solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels, we propose a new switching technique that uses a pulse width modulation method (PWM) aiming to reduce the harmonics. This new method introduces a sinusoidal wave compared with modified trapezoidal carriers used to generate the pulses. This new trapezoid carrier waveform is being implemented with different sinusoidal PWM dispositions such as phase disposition (PWM PD), phase opposition disposition (PWM POD), and (PWM APOD) alternative phase opposition disposition and compared with the conventional ones. Using Matlab Simulink R2014a the line voltage and total harmonic distortions (THD) simulated and the quality are increased in spite of variations of DC introduced. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carrier%20waveform" title="carrier waveform">carrier waveform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20disposition%20%28PD%29" title=" phase disposition (PD)"> phase disposition (PD)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20opposition%20disposition%20%28POD%29" title=" phase opposition disposition (POD)"> phase opposition disposition (POD)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alternative%20phase%20opposition%20disposition%20%28APOD%29" title=" alternative phase opposition disposition (APOD)"> alternative phase opposition disposition (APOD)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=total%20harmonics%20distortion%20%28THD%29" title=" total harmonics distortion (THD)"> total harmonics distortion (THD)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66203/a-new-pwm-command-for-cascaded-h-bridge-multilevel-increasing-the-quality-and-reducing-harmonics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66203.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">283</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1641</span> Cooperative CDD scheme Based on Adaptive Modulation in Wireless Communiation System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seung-Jun%20Yu">Seung-Jun Yu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hwan-Jun%20Choi"> Hwan-Jun Choi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyoung-Kyu%20Song"> Hyoung-Kyu Song</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Among spatial diversity scheme, orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) and cyclic delay diversity (CDD) have been widely studied for the cooperative wireless relaying system. The effect of varying the machining parameters on the machining responses such as material removal rate (MRR), electrode wear rate (EWR), and surface roughness (Ra) have been investigated. In this study, triangular shape and circular shape of copper was used as an electrode with surface area of 100 mm². The experiments were repeated for three different values of pulse duration (100 µs, 200 µs and 400 µs) with combination of three different values of discharge current (12 A, 16 A and 24 A). It was found that the pulse duration and current have significant effect on MRR, EWR and Ra. An increase in the pulse durations causes an increase in the MRR and Ra, but a decrease in the EWR. Meanwhile, the effect of currents on EDM performance shows that the increasing currents lead to an increase in the MRR, EWR and Ra. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=allegheny%20ludlum%20D2%20tool%20steel" title="allegheny ludlum D2 tool steel">allegheny ludlum D2 tool steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=current" title=" current"> current</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EDM" title=" EDM"> EDM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20roughness" title=" surface roughness"> surface roughness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulse%20duration" title=" pulse duration"> pulse duration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7844/effect-of-pulse-duration-and-current-to-the-edm-process-on-allegheny-ludlum-d2-tool-steel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7844.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">379</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1638</span> Terahertz Surface Plasmon in Carbon Nanotube Dielectric Interface via Amplitude Modulated Laser</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monika%20Singh">Monika Singh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A carbon nanotube thin film coated on dielectric interface is employed to produce THz surface plasma wave (SPW). DC-DC boost converters are now being used all over the world for rapid transit system. Although these provide high efficiency, smooth control, fast response and regeneration, conventional DC-DC boost converters are unable to provide high step up voltage gain due to effect of power switches, rectifier diodes and equivalent series resistance of inductor and capacitor. This paper proposes new transformerless dc-dc converters to achieve high step up voltage gain as compared to the conventional converter without an extremely high duty ratio. Only one power stage is used in this converter. Steady-state analysis of voltage gain is discussed in brief. CDMA offers high bandwidth and wireless broadband services but the efficiency gets decreased because of many interfering factors like fading, interference, scattering, diffraction, refraction, reflection etc. To reduce the spectral bandwidth is one of the major concerns in modern day technology and this is achieved by pulse shaping filter. This paper investigates the effect of diversity (MRC), interpolation factor in Root Raised Cosine (RRC) filter for the QPSK and BPSK modulation schemes. It is made possible to send information with minimum inter symbol interference and within limited bandwidth with proper pulse shaping technique. Bit error rate (BER) performance is analyzed by applying diversity technique by varying the interpolation factor for Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) and Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK). Interpolation factor increases the original sampling rate of a sequence to a higher rate and reduces the interference and diversity reduces the fading. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CDMA2000" title="CDMA2000">CDMA2000</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=root%20raised%20cosine" title=" root raised cosine"> root raised cosine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=roll%20off%20factor" title=" roll off factor"> roll off factor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ISI" title=" ISI"> ISI</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diversity" title=" diversity"> diversity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interference" title=" interference"> interference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fading" title=" fading"> fading</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12521/analysis-of-interpolation-factor-in-pulse-shaping-filter-on-mrc-for-cdma-2000-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12521.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">475</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1633</span> Design and Control Algorithms for Power Electronic Converters for EV Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilya%20Kavalchuk">Ilya Kavalchuk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Seyedmahmoudian"> Mehdi Seyedmahmoudian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ben%20Horan"> Ben Horan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aman%20Than%20Oo"> Aman Than Oo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alex%20Stojcevski"> Alex Stojcevski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The power electronic components within Electric Vehicles (EV) need to operate in several important modes. Some modes directly influence safety, while others influence vehicle performance. Given the variety of functions and operational modes required of the power electronics, it needs to meet efficiency requirements to minimize power losses. Another challenge in the control and construction of such systems is the ability to support bidirectional power flow. This paper considers the construction, operation, and feasibility of available converters for electric vehicles with feasible configurations of electrical buses and loads. This paper describes logic and control signals for the converters for different operations conditions based on the efficiency and energy usage bases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
