uncertainties due to the act of picking up an object of unknown dimension and mass. It is shown that an adaptive control, unlike a fixed gain control, is capable of ensuring a stable tracking performance under such condition, although adaptive control suffers from several limitations. The combination of both adaptive and fixed gain control in the controller architecture results in an enhanced tracking performance in the presence of parametric uncertainties. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=UAV" title="UAV">UAV</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quadrotor" title=" quadrotor"> quadrotor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robotic%20arm%20augmentation" title=" robotic arm augmentation"> robotic arm augmentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=model%20reference%20adaptive%20control" title=" model reference adaptive control"> model reference adaptive control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LQR%20control" title=" LQR control"> LQR control</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14946/model-reference-adaptive-control-and-lqr-control-for-quadrotor-with-parametric-uncertainties" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14946.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">472</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">608</span> Pathological and Molecular Diagnosis of Caseous Lymphadenitis in Chinkara Deer (Gazella Bennettii), in Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mudassar%20Iqbal">Mudassar Iqbal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riaz%20Hussain"> Riaz Hussain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khalid%20Mehmood"> Khalid Mehmood</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farah%20Ali"> Farah Ali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fazal%20Mahmood"> Fazal Mahmood</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Ghaffar"> Abdul Ghaffar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is an important cause of caseous lymphadenitis (CL), a complex, chronic devastating and destructive disease of small ruminants. In present study, postmortem examination of Chinkara deer (n=25) was conducted in year 2014. Pus samples suggestive of CL were collected from the superficial lymph nodes, liver, spleen and lungs during necropsy and subjected to standard microbiological procedures for isolation and molecular analysis of bacterial pathogens. Pus samples collected from carcasses (25) presenting clinical lesions of C. pseudotuberculosis infection was identified in 19 (76%) carcasses on the basis of culture characteristics. The frequency of C. pseudotuberculosis bacterium was higher in older animals as compared to young animals. Grossly, multiple tubercles of variable size having caseous material were observed in liver, lungs, spleen and lymph nodes. Histopathologically, tissue sections from all the visceral organs were extensively plugged with abscess. In present study specific prolineiminopeptidase (PIP) gene of the C. pseudotuberculosis was amplified by the Polymerase chain reaction technique (PCR) in 17(25) cases. The efficient and reliable molecular analysis along with necropsy findings in present study can be used as valuable approach for diagnosis of caseous lymphadenitis in small ruminants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chinkara%20deer" title="Chinkara deer">Chinkara deer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Corynebacterium%20pseudotuberculosis" title=" Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis"> Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caseous%20lymphadenitis" title=" Caseous lymphadenitis"> Caseous lymphadenitis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PCR" title=" PCR"> PCR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24616/pathological-and-molecular-diagnosis-of-caseous-lymphadenitis-in-chinkara-deer-gazella-bennettii-in-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24616.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">482</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">607</span> Feasibility of BioMass Power Generation in Punjab Province of Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ghaffar%20Doggar">Muhammad Ghaffar Doggar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farah"> Farah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The primary objective of this feasibility study is to conduct a techno-financial assessment for installation of biomass based power plant in Faisalabad division. The study involves identification of best site for power plant followed by an assessment of biomass resource potential in the area and propose power plant of suitable size. The study also entailed comprehensive supply chain analysis to determine biomass fuel pricing, transportation and storage. Further technical and financial analyses have been done for selection of appropriate technology for the power plant and its financial viability, respectively. The assessment of biomass resources and the subsequent technical analysis revealed that 20 MW biomass power plant could be implemented at one of the locations near Faisalabad city i.e. AARI Site, Near Chak Jhumra district Faisalabad, Punjab province. Three options for steam pressure; namely, 70 bar, 90 bar and 100 bar boilers have been considered. Using international experience and prices on power plant technology and local prices on locally available equipment, the study concludes biomass fuel price of around 50 US dollars (USD) per ton when delivered to power plant site. The electricity prices used for feasibility calculations were 0.13 USD per KWh for electricity from a locally financed project and 0.11 USD per KWh for internationally financed power plant. For local financing the most viable choice is the 70 bar solution and with international financing, the most feasible solution is using a 90 bar boiler. Between the two options, the internationally financed 90 bar boiler setup gives better financial results than the locally financed 70 bar boiler project. It has been concluded that 20 MW with 90 bar power plant and internationally financed would have an equity IRR of 23% and a payback period of 7 years. This will be a cheap option for installation of power plants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AARI" title="AARI">AARI</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayub%20agriculture%20research%20institute" title=" Ayub agriculture research institute"> Ayub agriculture research institute</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomass%20-%20crops%20residue" title=" biomass - crops residue"> biomass - crops residue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=KWh%20-%20electricity%20Units" title=" KWh - electricity Units"> KWh - electricity Units</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MG%20-%20Muhammad%20Ghaffar" title=" MG - Muhammad Ghaffar"> MG - Muhammad Ghaffar</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62606/feasibility-of-biomass-power-generation-in-punjab-province-of-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62606.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">340</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">606</span> The Impact of Online Games, Massively Multiplayer Online Game towards Undergraduate Students in Malaysia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rubijesmin%20%20Abdul%20Latif">Rubijesmin Abdul Latif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norshakirah%20Abdul%20Aziz"> Norshakirah Abdul Aziz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Taufik%20Abdul%20Jalil"> Mohd Taufik Abdul Jalil</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper focuses on the impact of online games among Malaysian undergraduate students. In present study blood samples were collected from camels kept at the desert condition of cholistan to estimate the prevalence of trypanosomiasis and hemato-biochemical changes in naturally infected cases. Results showed an overall 9.31% prevalence of trypanosomiasis in camels. Various clinical signs such as pyrexia, occasional shivering, inappetence, urticaria, swelling, lethargy, going down in condition and edema of pads were observed in few cases. The statistical analysis did not show significant association of age and sex with trypanosomiasis. However, results revealed significantly decreased values of total erythrocyte counts, packed cell volume, hemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, serum total proteins and albumin while increased values of mean corpuscular volume was recorded in infected animals as compared to healthy. A significant (P<0.01) increased values of total leukocyte count, monocyte, lymphocyte, neutrophils, and eosinophils was recorded in infected animals. Moreover, microscopic examination of blood films obtained from naturally infected cases showed the presence of parasite and various morphological changes in cells such as stomatocyte, hyperchromasia, and polychromasia. Significantly increased values of different hepatic enzymes including alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were also recorded. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=camel" title="camel">camel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hematological%20indices" title=" hematological indices"> hematological indices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=serum%20enzymes" title=" serum enzymes"> serum enzymes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Trypanosomiasis" title=" Trypanosomiasis"> Trypanosomiasis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25644/hemato-biochemical-studies-on-naturally-infected-camels-with-trypanosomiasis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25644.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">526</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">604</span> Comparison of Small Ruminants (Sheep) Production Efficiency of Nomadic and Transhumance Flocks in Malakand, Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akbar%20Nawaz%20Khan">Akbar Nawaz Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Ghaffar"> Abdul Ghaffar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdur%20Rehman"> Abdur Rehman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Naeem%20Riaz"> Muhammad Naeem Riaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sayed%20Muhammad%20Hassan%20Andrabi"> Sayed Muhammad Hassan Andrabi </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present study was conducted to compare sheep rearing in nomadic with transhumance system in term of production parameters. The following parameters which studied for comparison were household size, landholding area, flock size, body condition score, fecal egg count and live weight change in sheep under nomadic and transhumance systems of management in Malakand since October 2010 to March 2011. Further the effects of Body Condition Score (BCS) and Fecal Egg Count (FEC) on production were also examined. Two systems were checked for the purpose to check the efficiency of production. A total of eight flocks, four each from nomadic and transhumance system were selected for the study; each flock was divided into treatment and controlled groups to check the effect of treatment or de-wormers. A total of 160 animals were selected randomly (80 treated, 80 controlled). The adult ram average weight transhumance system was 55.58 kg while in nomadic that was 54.16 kg, weight change was positive, and the highest change was recorded in transhumance treated which was 13%. Fecal egg count was record low (75 EPG) in transhumance treated group while high (330 EPG) in nomadic controlled. Body condition score was recorded 3.6 for transhumance treated and 3.32 for nomadic treated. It is concluded from the present study that transhumance system performed significantly (p < 0.05) better in respect of live weight, BCS, FEC, family size, Landholding area, number of animals in a flock, offspring record, culling, and mortality. Mean values are 7.367 ± 0221, 0.900 ± 0.071, 63.167 ± 1.559, 55.600 ± 1.480, 8.300 ± 0.321 and 2.500 ± 0.158 respectively. De-wormer effect on FEC showed a significant reduction in egg load in mature sheep on both systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=small%20ruminant" title="small ruminant">small ruminant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sheep" title=" sheep"> sheep</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nomadic" title=" nomadic"> nomadic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transhumance" title=" transhumance"> transhumance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malakand" title=" Malakand"> Malakand</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=production%20efficiency" title=" production efficiency"> production efficiency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85727/comparison-of-small-ruminants-sheep-production-efficiency-of-nomadic-and-transhumance-flocks-in-malakand-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85727.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">224</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">603</span> Assessing Secondary School Curricula in the light of Developing Quality of Life Standards of High School Students</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Othman%20Ali%20Alghtani">Othman Ali Alghtani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yahya%20Abdul-Ekhalq%20Ali"> Yahya Abdul-Ekhalq Ali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Abdul-Ekhalq%20Ali"> Abdullah Abdul-Ekhalq Ali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Al%20Sadiq%20Abdul%20Majeed"> Ahmed Al Sadiq Abdul Majeed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Najwa%20Attian%20Al-Mohammadi"> Najwa Attian Al-Mohammadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Obead%20Mozel%20Alharbi"> Obead Mozel Alharbi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sabri%20Mohamed%20Ismail"> Sabri Mohamed Ismail</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omar%20Ibrahim%20Asiri"> Omar Ibrahim Asiri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study assessed the curricula of secondary schools given requirements to enhance the quality of life of students. A total of 35 NN chicks were randomly selected, and the experiment was performed at Poultry and wildlife research section NARC Islamabad for a period of 22 weeks. The predominant plumage color was black and golden while skin color was observed white. The average shank length, leg length, thigh length, keel length, chest breadth, head width, wing space, wing length, body length, body girth, body height and pubic bone width in adult males and females were 69.19 ± 3.34mm, 117.93 ± 4.42mm, 117.93 ± 4.42mm, 90.87 ± 6.53mm, 95.03 ± 4.56mm, 49.77 ± 2.53mm, 30.63 ± 1.50cm, 27.24 ± 2.71cm, 18.88 ± 0.65cm, 17.77 ± 1.01cm, 25.96 ± 0.56cm, 47.81 ± 1.41cm and 35.69 ± 4.09mm respectively. The average age and live body weight of NN chicken at sexual maturity were recorded as 165.85 days and 1269.38 g. While hen-day egg production of NN was recorded as 45%. The present study was aimed to investigate the existence of polymorphism at IGF-I gene in indigenous naked neck chicken through PCR based Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism. Based on restriction analysis using Hinf I restriction enzyme, three genotypes were detected designated as AA, AC, and CC. Restriction analysis of PCR amplified product showed the presence of DNA fragments of 622, 378, 244 and 191, (genotypes). The PCR-RFLP analysis is easy, cost effective method which permits the easy characterization of IGF-I gene. This showed the investigated IGF-I genes can serve as good molecular markers for marker assisted selection (MAS) concerning growth related traits in chicken. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Desi%20chicken" title="Desi chicken">Desi chicken</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=naked%20neck" title=" naked neck"> naked neck</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology" title=" morphology"> morphology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphometry" title=" morphometry"> morphometry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=production%20potential" title=" production potential"> production potential</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=egg%20traits" title=" egg traits"> egg traits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=egg%20geometry" title=" egg geometry"> egg geometry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IGF-I" title=" IGF-I"> IGF-I</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=growth" title=" growth"> growth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PCR-%20RFLP" title=" PCR- RFLP"> PCR- RFLP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chicken" title=" chicken"> chicken</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85686/phenotypic-characterization-of-desi-naked-neck-chicken-and-its-association-with-insulin-like-growth-factor-i-igf-i-gene-polymorphism-in-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85686.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">389</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">599</span> Exo-III Assisted Amplification Strategy through Target Recycling of Hg²⁺ Detection in Water: A GNP Based Label-Free Colorimetry Employing T-Rich Hairpin-Loop Metallobase</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Ghaffar%20Memon">Abdul Ghaffar Memon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiao%20Hong%20Zhou"> Xiao Hong Zhou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yunpeng%20Xing"> Yunpeng Xing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ruoyu%20Wang"> Ruoyu Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Miao%20He"> Miao He</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Due to deleterious environmental and health effects of the Hg²⁺ ions, various online, detection methods apart from the traditional analytical tools have been developed by researchers. Biosensors especially, label, label-free, colorimetric and optical sensors have advanced with sensitive detection. However, there remains a gap of ultrasensitive quantification as noise interact significantly especially in the AuNP based label-free colorimetry. This study reported an amplification strategy using Exo-III enzyme for target recycling of Hg²⁺ ions in a T-rich hairpin loop metallobase label-free colorimetric nanosensor with an improved sensitivity using unmodified gold nanoparticles (uGNPs) as an indicator. The two T-rich metallobase hairpin loop structures as 5’- CTT TCA TAC ATA GAA AAT GTA TGT TTG -3 (HgS1), and 5’- GGC TTT GAG CGC TAA GAA A TA GCG CTC TTT G -3’ (HgS2) were tested in the study. The thermodynamic properties of HgS1 and HgS2 were calculated using online tools (http://biophysics.idtdna.com/cgi-bin/meltCalculator.cgi). The lab scale synthesized uGNPs were utilized in the analysis. The DNA sequence had T-rich bases on both tails end, which in the presence of Hg²⁺ forms a T-Hg²⁺-T mismatch, promoting the formation of dsDNA. Later, the Exo-III incubation enable the enzyme to cleave stepwise mononucleotides from the 3’ end until the structure become single-stranded. These ssDNA fragments then adsorb on the surface of AuNPs in their presence and protect AuNPs from the induced salt aggregation. The visible change in color from blue (aggregation stage in the absence of Hg²⁺) and pink (dispersion state in the presence of Hg²⁺ and adsorption of ssDNA fragments) can be observed and analyzed through UV spectrometry. An ultrasensitive quantitative nanosensor employing Exo-III assisted target recycling of mercury ions through label-free colorimetry with nanomolar detection using uGNPs have been achieved and is further under the optimization to achieve picomolar range by avoiding the influence of the environmental matrix. The proposed strategy will supplement in the direction of uGNP based ultrasensitive, rapid, onsite, label-free colorimetric detection. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=colorimetric" title="colorimetric">colorimetric</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Exo-III" title=" Exo-III"> Exo-III</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gold%20nanoparticles" title=" gold nanoparticles"> gold nanoparticles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hg%C2%B2%E2%81%BA%20detection" title=" Hg²⁺ detection"> Hg²⁺ detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=label-free" title=" label-free"> label-free</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=signal%20amplification" title=" signal amplification"> signal amplification</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90654/exo-iii-assisted-amplification-strategy-through-target-recycling-of-hg2-detection-in-water-a-gnp-based-label-free-colorimetry-employing-t-rich-hairpin-loop-metallobase" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90654.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">598</span> Performance Evaluation of Distributed and Co-Located MIMO LTE Physical Layer Using Wireless Open-Access Research Platform</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ishak%20Suleiman">Ishak Suleiman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Kamsani%20Samingan"> Ahmad Kamsani Samingan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yeoh%20Chun%20Yeow"> Yeoh Chun Yeow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Aziz%20Bin%20Abdul%20Rahman"> Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we evaluate the benefits of distributed 4x4 MIMO LTE downlink systems compared to that of the co-located 4x4 MIMO LTE downlink system. Intellectual property law also seeks to enhance consumer welfare in the long run by encouraging the development of useful devices and processes. Nevertheless, in some circumstances, the IP owners behave in such a way that makes it difficult for rival companies to sell substitute products and technology in the market. Intellectual property owners may also reach a dominant position in the market such that they are able to dictate unfair terms and conditions on other market players. Among the two major categories of anti-competitive behavior is the use of horizontal and vertical agreement to constrain effective competition and abuse of dominant position. As a result, many countries have regulated the conduct of the IP owners that are considered as anti-competitive including the US, Canada, and Singapore. This paper visits the proposed IP Guidelines recently drafted by the Malaysian Competition Commission and investigates to what extent it resolves most of the anti-competitive behavior of the IP owners. The paper concludes by suggesting some of the rules that could be prescribed by the Competition Commission in order to maintain the relevancy of competition law as the main check against the abuse of rights by the intellectual property owners. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=abuse%20of%20dominant%20position" title="abuse of dominant position">abuse of dominant position</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=consumer%20welfare" title=" consumer welfare"> consumer welfare</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intellectual%20property%20rights" title=" intellectual property rights"> intellectual property rights</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vertical%20and%20horizontal%20agreements" title=" vertical and horizontal agreements"> vertical and horizontal agreements</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88488/maximisation-of-consumer-welfare-in-the-enforcement-of-intellectual-property-rights-in-competition-guidelines-the-malaysian-experience" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88488.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">220</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">594</span> The Role of Human Beings as Caliphs in Preserving Nature</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Firdaus%20Khairi%20Abdul%20Kadir">Firdaus Khairi Abdul Kadir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nazihah%20Rusli"> Nazihah Rusli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noor%20Aisyah%20Abdul%20Aziz"> Noor Aisyah Abdul Aziz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Islam is a comprehensive religion encompassing all aspects of society’s life such as social, economic, political, cultural and environmental. The environment is part of the manifestation of God’s greatness which has pearls of wisdom, bestowed upon human beings to make them realize that everything is in the hands of God (Allah SWT). However, the equilibrium of nature could be disturbed from the excessive exploitation by humans’ hands. As a caliph on this earth, it is the responsibility of human beings to look after the environment proactively. Nevertheless, in Islamic finance, the issue of beneficial ownership as practiced in the current system is seriously debated among Shariah scholars. It has been argued as violating the real concept of ownership (milkiyyah) in Shariah law. This article aims at studying the status of beneficial ownership from the Shariah perspective. This study begins with examining the meaning of ownership and its attributes from the Islamic point of view and followed by the discussion on the origin of beneficial ownership from the legal perspective. The approach that is applied to clarify the concept of beneficial ownership is content analysis. Subsequently, this study explains some current applications of beneficial ownership in Islamic finance to be analyzed further from the Shariah aspect. The research finding suggests that beneficial ownership should be recognized as a real ownership due to the fact that Shariah allows the transfer of ownership after the execution of offer (ijab) and acceptance (qabul). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=beneficial%20ownership" title="beneficial ownership">beneficial ownership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ownership" title=" ownership"> ownership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Islamic%20finance" title=" Islamic finance"> Islamic finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parameter" title=" parameter"> parameter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72334/beneficial-ownership-in-islamic-finance-the-need-for-shariah-parameters" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72334.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">592</span> Non-Destructive Testing of Metal Pipes with Ultrasonic Sensors Based on Determination of Maximum Ultrasonic Frequency</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Herlina%20Abdul%20Rahim">Herlina Abdul Rahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Javad%20Abbaszadeh"> Javad Abbaszadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ruzairi%20Abdul%20Rahim"> Ruzairi Abdul Rahim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this research, the non-invasive ultrasonic transmission tomography is investigated. Due to the demand, different types of waste have been investigated to be incorporated into the bricks. Many types of sludge have been incorporated in fired clay brick for example marble sludge, stone sludge, water sludge, sewage sludge, and ceramic sludge. The utilization of these waste materials in fired clay bricks usually has positive effects on the properties such as lightweight bricks with improved shrinkage, porosity, and strength. This paper reviews on utilization of different types of sludge wastes into fired clay bricks. Previous investigations have demonstrated positive effects on the physical and mechanical properties as well as less impact towards the environment. Thus, the utilizations of sludge waste could produce a good quality of brick and could be one of alternative disposal methods for the sludge wastes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fired%20clay%20brick" title="fired clay brick">fired clay brick</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sludge%20waste" title=" sludge waste"> sludge waste</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressive%20strength" title=" compressive strength"> compressive strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shrinkage" title=" shrinkage"> shrinkage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20absorption" title=" water absorption"> water absorption</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11628/an-overview-of-sludge-utilization-into-fired-clay-brick" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11628.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">446</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">590</span> The Relationship between Brand Recall and Brand Attitude in Advergame</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azaze-Azizi%20Abdul%20Adis">Azaze-Azizi Abdul Adis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyung%20Jun%20Kim"> Hyung Jun Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamad%20Rizwan%20Abdul%20Majid"> Mohamad Rizwan Abdul Majid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zaiton%20Osman"> Zaiton Osman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Izyanti%20Awang%20Razli"> Izyanti Awang Razli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The increase of online advertising, specifically advergame has become a popular method of strengthening consumer brand recognition by inserting attractive characters and enhancing entertainment value. There have been several remarkable studies on spokes-characters in advertising effectiveness. However, few studies have examined the link between character presence and consumers' brand recall and attitude in advergame. Moreover, how the entertainment value of an advergame influences brand recall and brand attitude and the mediating role of brand recall in influencing character presence and entertainment on brand attitude are still lacking in the advergaming literature. An online survey was conducted with 366 Malaysian gamers. Using structural equation modeling, the results showed that character presence had no influence but entertainment value had a positive influence on brand recall and brand attitude. This study confirmed the role of brand recall as a mediator of the effect of between entertainment and brand attitude in advergame. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=character%20presence" title="character presence">character presence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=entertainment" title=" entertainment"> entertainment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brand%20recall" title=" brand recall"> brand recall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brand%20attitude" title=" brand attitude"> brand attitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=advergame" title=" advergame"> advergame</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20513/the-relationship-between-brand-recall-and-brand-attitude-in-advergame" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20513.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">536</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">589</span> Accounting as Addressed in the Qur’aan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shahriar%20M.%20Saadullah">Shahriar M. This paper identifies and analyzes the word Accounting in the Qur’aan, which is significant to know and understand. The paper uses a methodology of identifying the root word of Accounting Hasaba (حسب) in the Qur’aan with the help of Islam 360 software and analyzes the use of the relevant words derived from the root word. Then the paper attempts to connect the findings to the contemporary Accounting issues. The paper finds that the root word of Accounting Hasaba (حسب) appears in the Qur’aan 109 times but it is only used in the sense Account, Accountable, or Accounting 45 times. These words appear in 44 different verses in the Qur’aan, appearing twice in one of the verses. The paper divides these verses into 8 different themes namely, Day of Accounting, without any Accounting, Accounting of Time, Self-Accounting, Swift in Accounting, Accounting is only with God, Awareness and the Good Accounting, and Heedlessness and the Bad Accounting. The way the words Account, Accounting, and Accountable is discussed in the Qur’aan links to the contemporary accounting issues including Ethics, Agency Theory, and Internal Control. The links discovered in the paper clearly shows the timeless nature of the message of the Qur’aan. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accounting" title="accounting">accounting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contemporary%20accounting%20issues" title=" contemporary accounting issues"> contemporary accounting issues</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qur%27aan" title=" Qur&#039;aan"> Qur&#039;aan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=root%20word%20of%20accounting%20hasaba" title=" root word of accounting hasaba"> root word of accounting hasaba</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99304/accounting-as-addressed-in-the-quraan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99304.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">419</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">588</span> The Reuse of Household Waste in Natural Dyeing as a Tool for Upcycling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juliana%20Bastos%20dos%20Santos">Juliana Bastos dos Santos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Francisca%20Dantas%20Mendes"> Francisca Dantas Mendes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Jabbar%20Mohammad%20Khatri"> Abdul Jabbar Mohammad Khatri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adam%20Abdul%20Jabbar%20Khatri"> Adam Abdul Jabbar Khatri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research aims to describe the experimentation of color extraction from household waste, for the application of the natural vegetable dyeing technique, as a more sustainable option for the upcycling process. One special technique for producing well-defined chiral polymers is asymmetric kinetic resolution polymerization (AKRP), which adds stereo regularity to a polymer chain by the kinetic resolution of a race mate preferentially polymerizing one enantiomer. Apart from making it possible to characterize chiral polymers enantioselective, AKRP can synthesize chiral polymers with high stereo selectivity. This review includes the literature on the use of enzymes, chiral metal complexes, and organ catalysts as AKRP promoters. One enantiomer reacts more quickly than the other in this kind of polymerisation, quickly entering the expanding polymer chain, while the kinetically less reactive enantiomer stays unreactive and is readily separated using straightforward purification techniques. The degree of chiral induction and overall chirality of the chiral polymers that are generated may be assessed using the enantiomeric excess (ee) of the initial monomer, which is frequently determined by chiral HPLC analysis, throughout the polymerisation process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stereo%20regularity" title="stereo regularity">stereo regularity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polymers" title=" polymers"> polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamical" title=" dynamical"> dynamical</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=symmetric" title=" symmetric"> symmetric</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193168/symmetric-polymerization-with-dynamical-resolution" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193168.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">13</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">586</span> Sound Exposure Effects towards Ross Broilers Growth Rate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rashidah%20Ghazali">Rashidah Ghazali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Herlina%20Abdul%20Rahim"> Herlina Abdul Rahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mashitah%20Shikh%20Maidin"> Mashitah Shikh Maidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shafishuhaza%20Sahlan"> Shafishuhaza Sahlan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noramli%20Abdul%20Razak"> Noramli Abdul Razak</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Sound exposure effects have been investigated by broadcasting a group of broilers with sound of Quran verses (Group B) whereas the other group is the control broilers (Group C). The growth rate comparisons in terms of weight and raw meat texture measured by shear force have been investigated. Twenty-seven broilers were randomly selected from each group on Day 24 and weight measurement was carried out every week till the harvest day (Day 39). Group B showed a higher mean weight on Day 24 (1.441±0.013 kg) than Group C. Significant difference in the weight on Day 39 existed for Group B compared to Group C (p< 0.05). However, there was no significant (p> 0.05) difference of shear force in the same muscles (breast and drumstick raw meat) of both groups but the shear force of the breast meat for Group B and C broilers was lower (p < 0.05) than that of their drumstick meat. Thus, broadcasting the sound of Quran verses in the coop can be applied to improve the growth rate of broilers for producing better quality poultry. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=broilers" title="broilers">broilers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sound" title=" sound"> sound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20force" title=" shear force"> shear force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weight" title=" weight"> weight</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15100/sound-exposure-effects-towards-ross-broilers-growth-rate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15100.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">418</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">585</span> Carbon Footprint Reduction Using Cleaner Production Strategies in a Otoshimi Producing Plant </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Razuana%20Rahim">Razuana Rahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Aziz%20Abdul%20Raman"> Abdul Aziz Abdul Raman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this work, a study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using Cleaner Production (CP) strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emission (CO2) in a plant that produces Otoshimi. CP strategy is meant to reduce CO2 emission while taking into consideration the economic aspect. For this purpose, a CP audit was conducted and the information obtained were analyzed and major contributors of CO2 emission inside the boundary of the production plant was identified. Electricity, water and fuel consumption and generation of solid waste and wastewater were identified as the main contributors. Total CO2 emission generated was 0.27 kg CO2 per kg of Otoshimi produced, where 68% was contributed by electricity consumption. Subsequently, a total of three CP options were generated and implementations of these options are expected to reduce the CO2 emission from electricity consumption to 0.16 kg CO2 per kg of Otoshimi produced, a reduction of about 14%. The study proves that CP strategy can be implemented even without any investment to reduce CO2 for a plant that produces Otoshimi. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbon%20dioxide%20emission" title="carbon dioxide emission">carbon dioxide emission</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cleaner%20production%20audit" title=" cleaner production audit"> cleaner production audit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cleaner%20production%20options" title=" cleaner production options"> cleaner production options</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=otoshimi%20production" title=" otoshimi production"> otoshimi production</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28110/carbon-footprint-reduction-using-cleaner-production-strategies-in-a-otoshimi-producing-plant" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28110.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">427</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">584</span> The Evaluation of Shear Modulus (Go) Consistency State of Consolidation Cohesive Soils and Seismic Reflection Survey Using Degree of Soil Consolidation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Halim%20Abdul">Abdul Halim Abdul</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wan%20Ismail%20Wan%20Yusoff"> Wan Ismail Wan Yusoff</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The geological formation at Limau Manis Besar area, are consist of low grade metamorphic rock and undulating mountaineers, rugged terrain and the quite steeply 45 degree slope gradient. The multilayer polymeric flow model (MPFM) was used to calculate the growth rate of a single polymer particle under intra-heat and mass transfer resistance. The industrial plant data were used to calculate the growth rate of polymer particle and the polymer PSD. Numerical simulations carried out to describe the influence of effective monomer diffusion coefficient, polymerization rate and initial catalyst size on the catalyst particle growth and final polymer PSD. The results present that the intra-heat and mass limitation is important for the ethylene polymerization, the growth rate of particle and the polymer PSD in the fluidized bed reactor. The effect of the agglomeration on the PSD is also considered. The result presents that the polymer particle size distribution becomes broader as the agglomeration exits. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=population%20balance" title="population balance">population balance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=olefin%20polymerization" title=" olefin polymerization"> olefin polymerization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluidized%20bed%20reactor" title=" fluidized bed reactor"> fluidized bed reactor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20size%20distribution" title=" particle size distribution"> particle size distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agglomeration" title=" agglomeration"> agglomeration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35596/modeling-of-polyethylene-particle-size-distribution-in-fluidized-bed-reactors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35596.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">333</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">582</span> Retirement Planning and Job Satisfaction: Cushion to Avoid Bridge Employment?</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zaiton%20Osman">Zaiton Osman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imbarine%20Bujang"> Imbarine Bujang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azaze-Azizi%20Abdul%20Adis"> Azaze-Azizi Abdul Adis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Grace%20Phang%20Ing"> Grace Phang Ing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Rizwan%20Abdul%20Majid"> Mohd Rizwan Abdul Majid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Izyanti%20Awang%20Razli"> Izyanti Awang Razli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Retirement forces older workers to disconnect with their previous behavioural patterns and economic position. Transition and adjustment from working life to retirement places create psychological pressure and financial distress on older workers, especially those with dependent children. Bridge employment provides a solution for older workers to continue working after retirement while transitioning into retirement slowly and smoothly. As losing the job role has a significant impact on the psychological well-being of retirees, engageing in bridge employment helps to fulfill the important psychological functions of older workers by providing an adaptive style to retirement. This study investigates the influence of retirement planning and job satisfaction on bridge employment. A self-administered questionnaire was used in this study and a total of 523 samples were collected for nine major district in Sabah. Data were analysed using Partial Least Square (PLS) method wersion 2.0. The result shows a significant relationship between retirement planning and job satisfaction on bridge employment, explaining 4.7% the variance in bridge employment and job satisfaction was found to be the strongest predictor of bridge employment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ageing%20population" title="ageing population">ageing population</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=retirement%20planning" title=" retirement planning"> retirement planning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=job%20satisfaction" title=" job satisfaction"> job satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bridge%20employment" title=" bridge employment"> bridge employment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30036/retirement-planning-and-job-satisfaction-cushion-to-avoid-bridge-employment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30036.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">360</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">581</span> Degemination in Emirati Pidgin Arabic: A Sociolinguistic Perspective</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdel%20Rahman%20Mitib%20Altakhaineh">Abdel Rahman Mitib Altakhaineh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Salam%20Mohamad%20Alnamer"> Abdul Salam Mohamad Alnamer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sulafah%20Abdul%20Salam%20Alnamer"> Sulafah Abdul Salam Alnamer</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study examines the production of gemination in Emirati Pidgin Arabic (EPA) spoken by blue-collar workers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A simple naming test was designed to test the production of geminates and a follow-up discussion was conducted with some of the participants to obtain the complementary qualitative analysis. The goal of the test was to determine whether the EPA speakers would produce a geminated or degeminated phoneme. A semi-structured interview was conducted with a subset of the study cohort to obtain participants’ own explanation where they degeminated the consonants. Our findings suggest that the exercising of this choice functions as a sociolinguistic strategy in a similar manner to that observed by Labov in his study of Martha’s Vineyard. The findings also show that speakers of EPA are inclined to degeminate consonantal geminates to establish themselves as members of a particular social group. Reasons for wanting to achieve this aim were given as: to claim privileges only available to members of this group (such as employment) and to distinguish themselves from the dominant cultural group. The study concludes that degemination in EPA has developed into a sociolinguistic solidarity marker. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sociolinguistics" title="sociolinguistics">sociolinguistics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphophonology" title=" morphophonology"> morphophonology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=degemination" title=" degemination"> degemination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solidarity" title=" solidarity"> solidarity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emirati%20pidgin%20Arabic" title=" Emirati pidgin Arabic"> Emirati pidgin Arabic</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141676/degemination-in-emirati-pidgin-arabic-a-sociolinguistic-perspective" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141676.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">209</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">580</span> Exploring Individual and Team Approaches in Crafting Workplace Inclusivity for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Employees in Malaysia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Wahiza%20Abdul%20Wahat">Nor Wahiza Abdul Wahat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Haniza%20Abdul%20Wahat"> Nor Haniza Abdul Wahat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siti%20Noormi%20Alias"> Siti Noormi Alias</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamad%20Sazali%20Shaari"> Mohamad Sazali Shaari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study prepares the groundwork for the development of a strategic model and instrument for workplace inclusivity for deaf and hard-of-hearing employees in Malaysia. In the past, scholars have discussed inclusivity of workplaces to the extent to which employees feel they are significantly part of the organizational processes. Such processes include access to information, connectedness to colleagues and team members as well as their ability to participate in and influence decision-making processes. A qualitative study was conducted to explore on experiences of employed deaf and hard-of-hearing employees in a few Malaysian organizations. Data were collected from two focus group discussions involving male and female deaf and hard of hearing employees. Three in-depth interviews were also conducted with employer representatives. Generated themes highlighted individual, and team approaches towards crafting workplace inclusivity for deaf and hard of hearing employees in Malaysia. The adaptiveness of deaf and hard-of-hearing employees and social inclusion by colleagues were among the emerged sub-themes. This study allowed the researchers to further develop workplace inclusivity instruments and models for the benefit of deaf and hard of hearing Malaysian employees, as well as their employers. <p
