August 2024</strong> - OCLC gab heute bekannt, dass die <a href="https://www.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/en">Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg</a> <a href="https://www.oclc.org/de/worldshare-management-services.html">WorldShare Management Services</a> (WMS) als cloudbasierte Bibliotheksservice-Plattform ausgewählt hat. Die Entscheidung der UB Heidelberg für WMS erfolgte nach einer umfassenden Prüfung der modernen Plattform der nächsten Generation.</p> <p>Die Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg ist die älteste und eine der größten Universitätsbibliotheken in Deutschland. Ihre Anfänge gehen auf die Gründung der Universität im Jahr 1386 zurück. Zusammen mit 36 Instituts- und Fakultätsbibliotheken bilden die Hauptbibliothek in der Altstadt und die medizinisch-naturwissenschaftliche Zweigstelle im Neuenheimer Feld das Bibliothekssystem der Universität und versorgen 30.000 Studierende und 6.500 Wissenschaftler. Der Bestand erstreckt sich über alle Fachgebiete und umfasst neben 6,1 Millionen gedruckten Bänden 920.000 E-Books, 156.000 E-Journals und 3.900 Datenbanken.</p> <p>WMS ist eine vollständig integrierte Bibliotheksservice-Plattform, die auf WorldCat basiert und den Anforderungen moderner Bibliotheken gerecht wird. WMS ermöglicht es Bibliotheken, ihre Arbeitsabläufe und Prozesse flexibler und effizienter zu gestalten, Ressourcen zu sparen und begrenzte Mittel optimal zu nutzen. Maßgeschneidert auf die lokalen Bedürfnisse deutscher wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken, vereint WMS alle Arbeitsabläufe modular unter einer Oberfläche.</p> <p>„Bei der Suche nach einem Nachfolgesystem haben wir uns intensiv mit den Anforderungen unserer Bibliothek auseinandergesetzt, um noch effizientere und nutzerfreundlichere Dienstleistungen anbieten zu können.
