<span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>They said<MG3004> to Him, &#8220;Where<MG4226> do You want<MG2309> us to prepare<MG2090> <i>it?</i>&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;When<MG2400> you have entered<MG1525> the city<MG4172>, a man<MG444> carrying<MG941> a pitcher<MG2765> of water<MG5204> will meet<MG4876> you; follow<MG190> him into the house<MG3614> that he enters<MG1531>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And you shall say<MG3004> to the owner<MG3617> of the house<MG3614>, &#8216;The Teacher<MG1320> says<MG3004> to you, &#8220;Where<MG4226> is the guest<MG2646> room<MG2646> in which<MG3699> I may eat<MG2068> the Passover<MG3957> with My disciples<MG3101>?&#8221;&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And he will show<MG1166> you a large<MG3173>, furnished<MG4766> upstairs<MG311b> room<MG311b>; prepare<MG2090> <i>it</i> there<MG1563>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And they left<MG565> and found<MG2147> <i>everything</i> just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He had told<MG3004> them; and they prepared<MG2090> the Passover<MG3957>. <p class="hdg">The Lord&#8217;s Supper</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>When<MG3753> the hour<MG5610> came<MG1096>, He reclined<MG377> <i>at the table,</i> and the apostles<MG652> with Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;I have eagerly<MG1939> desired<MG1937> to eat<MG2068> this<MG3778> Passover<MG3957> with you before<MG4253> I suffer<MG3958>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>for I say<MG3004> to you, I shall not eat<MG2068> it <i>again</i> until<MG2193> it is fulfilled<MG4137> in the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And when He had taken<MG1209> a cup<MG4221> <i>and</i> given<MG2168> thanks<MG2168>, He said<MG3004>, &#8220;Take<MG2983> this<MG3778> and share<MG1266> it among<MG1519> yourselves<MG1438>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>for I say<MG3004> to you, I will not drink<MG4095> of the fruit<MG1079b> of the vine<MG288> from now<MG3568> on until<MG2193> the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> comes<MG2064>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And when He had taken<MG2983> <i>some</i> bread<MG740> <i>and</i> given<MG2168> thanks<MG2168>, He broke<MG2806> it and gave<MG1325> it to them, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;This<MG3778> is My body<MG4983>, which is being given<MG1325> for you; do<MG4160> this<MG3778> in remembrance<MG364> of Me.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And in the same<MG5615> way<MG5615> <i>He took</i> the cup<MG4221> after<MG3326> they had eaten<MG1172>, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;This<MG3778> cup<MG4221>, which is poured<MG1632b> out<MG1632b> for you, is the new<MG2537> covenant<MG1242> in My blood<MG129>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But behold<MG2400>, the hand<MG5495> of the one betraying<MG3860> Me is with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Mine<MG1473> on the table<MG5132>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For indeed<MG3303a>, the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> is going<MG4198> as it has<MG2192> been determined<MG3724>; but woe<MG3759> to that man<MG444> by whom<MG3739> He is betrayed<MG3860>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And they began<MG757> to debate<MG4802> among<MG4314> themselves<MG1438> which<MG5101> one of them it was who was<MG3195> going<MG3195> to<MG3195> do<MG4238> this<MG3778>. <p class="hdg">Who Is Greatest</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And a dispute<MG5379> also<MG2532> developed<MG1096> among<MG1722> them <i>as to</i> which<MG5101> one of them was regarded<MG1380> as being<MG1510> the greatest<MG3173>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;The kings<MG935> of the Gentiles<MG1484> domineer<MG2961> over<MG2961> them; and those<MG3588> who have<MG1850> authority<MG1850> over<MG1850> them are called<MG2564> &#8216;Benefactors<MG2110>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But <i>it is</i> not this<MG3779> way<MG3779> for you; rather<MG235>, the one<MG3739> who is the greatest<MG3173> among<MG1722> you must become<MG1096> like<MG5613> the youngest<MG3501b>, and the leader<MG2233> like<MG5613> the servant<MG1247>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>For who<MG5101> is greater<MG3173>, the one who reclines<MG345> <i>at the table</i> or<MG2228> the one who serves<MG1247>? Is it not the one who reclines<MG345> <i>at the table?</i> But I am<MG1510> among<MG1722, 3319> you as the one who serves<MG1247>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>&#8220;You are the ones who have stood<MG1265> by Me in My trials<MG3986>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>and just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> My Father<MG3962> has<MG2192> granted<MG1303> Me a kingdom<MG932>, I grant<MG1303> you <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>that you may eat<MG2068> and drink<MG4095> at My table<MG5132> in My kingdom<MG932>, and you will sit<MG2521> on thrones<MG2362> judging<MG2919> the twelve<MG1427> tribes<MG5443> of Israel<MG2474>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>&#8220;Simon<MG4613>, Simon<MG4613>, behold<MG2400>, Satan<MG4567> has<MG2192> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>demanded<MG1809> to sift<MG4617a> you <i>men</i> like<MG5613> wheat<MG4621>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>but I have prayed<MG1189a> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>you, that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>your faith<MG4102> will not fail<MG1587>; and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>you, when<MG4218> you have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>turned<MG1994> back<MG1994>, strengthen<MG4741> your brothers<MG80>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>But he said<MG3004> to Him, &#8220;Lord<MG2962>, I am<MG1510> ready<MG2092> to go<MG4198> with You both<MG2532> to prison<MG5438> and to death<MG2288>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>But He said<MG3004>, &#8220;I tell<MG3004> you, Peter<MG4074>, the rooster<MG220> will not crow<MG5455> today<MG4594> until<MG2193> you have denied<MG533> three<MG5151> times<MG5151> that you know<MG3609a> Me.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;When<MG3753> I sent<MG649> you out<MG649> without<MG817> money<MG905> belt<MG905> and bag<MG4082> and sandals<MG5266>, you did not lack<MG5302> anything<MG5100>, did you?&#8221; They said<MG3004>, &#8220;<i>No,</i> nothing<MG3762>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;But now<MG3568>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>whoever<MG3588> has<MG2192> a money<MG905> belt<MG905> is to take<MG142> it along, likewise<MG3668> also<MG2532> a bag<MG4082>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>whoever<MG3588> has<MG2192> no<MG3361> sword<MG3162> is to sell<MG4453> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>cloak<MG2440> and buy<MG59> <i>one.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>For I tell<MG3004> you that this<MG3778> which is written<MG1125> must<MG1163> be fulfilled<MG5055> in Me: &#8216;AND HE WAS COUNTED<MG3049> WITH WRONGDOERS<MG459>&#8217;; for that which refers<MG4012> to Me has<MG2192> <i>its</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>fulfillment<MG5056>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>They said<MG3004>, &#8220;Lord<MG2962>, look<MG2400>, here<MG5602> are two<MG1417> swords<MG3162>.&#8221; And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;It is enough<MG2425>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">The Garden of Gethsemane</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And He came<MG1831> out<MG1831> and went<MG4198>, as was His habit<MG1485>, to the Mount<MG3735> of Olives<MG1636>; and the disciples<MG3101> also<MG2532> followed<MG190> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> when He arrived<MG1096> at the place<MG5117>, He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;Pray<MG4336> that you do not come<MG1525> into<MG1525> temptation<MG3986>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And He withdrew<MG645> from them about<MG5616> a stone&#8217;s<MG3037> throw<MG1000>, and He knelt<MG1119, 5087> down<MG5087, 1119> and <i>began</i> to pray<MG4336>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>saying<MG3004>, &#8220;Father<MG3962>, if<MG1487> You are willing<MG1014>, remove<MG3911> this<MG3778> cup<MG4221> from Me; yet<MG4133> not My will<MG2307>, but Yours<MG4674> be done<MG1096>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>[<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>Now<MG1161> an angel<MG32a> from heaven<MG3772> appeared<MG3708> to Him, strengthening<MG1765> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>And being<MG1096> in agony<MG74>, He was praying<MG4336> very fervently<MG1618>; and His sweat<MG2402> became<MG1096> like<MG5616> drops<MG2361> of blood<MG129>, falling<MG2597> down<MG2597> upon the ground<MG1093>]. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>When He rose<MG450> from prayer<MG4335>, He came<MG2064> to the disciples<MG3101> and found<MG2147> them sleeping<MG2837> from sorrow<MG3077>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>and He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;Why<MG5101> are<MG2518> you sleeping<MG2518>? Get<MG450> up<MG450> and pray<MG4336> that you do not come<MG1525> into<MG1525> temptation<MG3986>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">Jesus Betrayed by Judas</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>While He was still<MG2089> speaking<MG2980>, behold<MG2400>, a crowd<MG3793> <i>came,</i> and the one called<MG3004> Judas<MG2455>, one<MG1520> of the twelve<MG1427>, was leading<MG4281> the<MG4281> way<MG4281> for them; and he approached<MG1448> Jesus<MG2424> to kiss<MG5368> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to him, &#8220;Judas<MG2455>, are you betraying<MG3860> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> with a kiss<MG5370>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>When those<MG3588> who<MG3588> were around<MG4012> Him saw<MG3708> what was going to happen<MG1510>, they said<MG3004>, &#8220;Lord<MG2962>, shall we strike<MG3960> with the sword<MG3162>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>And one<MG1520> of them struck<MG3960> the slave<MG1401> of the high<MG749> priest<MG749> and cut<MG851> off<MG851> his right<MG1188> ear<MG3775>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424> responded<MG611> and said<MG3004>, &#8220;<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Stop<MG1439>! No<MG2193> more<MG2193> of this<MG3778>.&#8221; And He touched<MG681> his ear<MG5621b> and healed<MG2390> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> and officers<MG4755> of the temple<MG2413> and elders<MG4245> who had come<MG3854> against<MG1909> Him, &#8220;Have you come<MG1831> out<MG1831> with swords<MG3162> and clubs<MG3586> as <i>you would</i> against<MG1909> a man<MG3027> inciting<MG3027> a<MG3027> revolt<MG3027>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-53.htm"><b>53</b></a></span>While I was with you daily<MG2596, 2250> in the temple<MG2413>, you did not lay<MG1614> hands<MG5495> on Me; but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>this<MG3778> hour<MG5610> and the power<MG1849> of darkness<MG4655> are yours<MG4771>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">Jesus&#8217; Arrest</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-54.htm"><b>54</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> they arrested<MG4815> Him and led<MG71> <i>Him away,</i> and brought<MG1521> <i>Him</i> to the house<MG3614> of the high<MG749> priest<MG749>; but Peter<MG4074> was following<MG190> at<MG3113> a<MG3113> distance<MG3113>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-55.htm"><b>55</b></a></span>After they kindled<MG4015a> a fire<MG4442> in the middle<MG3319> of the courtyard<MG833> and sat<MG4776> down<MG4776> together<MG4776>, Peter<MG4074> was sitting<MG2521> among<MG3319> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-56.htm"><b>56</b></a></span>And a slave<MG3814> woman<MG3814>, seeing<MG3708> him as he sat<MG2521> in the firelight<MG5457>, and staring<MG816> at him, said<MG3004>, &#8220;This<MG3778> man<MG3778> was with Him as<MG2532> well<MG2532>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-57.htm"><b>57</b></a></span>But he denied<MG720> <i>it,</i> saying<MG3004>, &#8220;I do not know<MG3609a> Him, woman<MG1135>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-58.htm"><b>58</b></a></span>And a little<MG1024> later<MG3326>, another<MG2087> person<MG2087> saw<MG3708> him and said<MG5346>, &#8220;You are <i>one</i> of them too<MG2532>!&#8221; But Peter<MG4074> said<MG5346>, &#8220;Man<MG444>, I am<MG1510> not!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-59.htm"><b>59</b></a></span>And after about<MG5616> an hour<MG5610> had passed<MG1339>, some<MG5100> other<MG243> man<MG243> <i>began</i> to insist<MG1340>, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;Certainly<MG1909, 225> this<MG3778> man<MG3778> also<MG2532> was with Him, for he, too<MG2532>, is a Galilean<MG1057>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-60.htm"><b>60</b></a></span>But Peter<MG4074> said<MG3004>, &#8220;Man<MG444>, I do not know<MG3609a> what<MG3739> you are talking<MG3004> about!&#8221; And immediately<MG3916>, while he was still<MG2089> speaking<MG2980>, a rooster<MG220> crowed<MG5455>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-61.htm"><b>61</b></a></span>And <i>then</i> the Lord<MG2962> turned<MG4762> and looked<MG1689> at<MG1689> Peter<MG4074>.
