Should I let Myself be consulted<MH1875> by them at<MH1875> all<MH1875>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> speak<MH1696> to them and tell<MH559> them, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Anyone<MH376> of the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> who<MH834> sets<MH5927> up<MH5927> his idols<MH1544> in his heart<MH3820>, puts<MH7760> in front<MH5227> of his face<MH6440> the stumbling<MH4383> block<MH4383> of his wrongdoing<MH5771>, and <i>then</i> comes<MH935> to the prophet<MH5030>, I the LORD<MH3068> will let Myself answer<MH6030a> him in <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>the matter in view of the multitude<MH7230> of his idols<MH1544>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>in<MH4616> order<MH4616> to<MH4616> take<MH8610> hold<MH8610> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>the hearts<MH3820> of the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> who<MH834> have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>turned<MH2114a> away<MH2114a> from Me due to all<MH3605> their idols<MH1544>.”’ <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>“Therefore<MH3651> say<MH559> to the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Repent<MH7725> and turn<MH7725> away<MH7725> from your idols<MH1544>, and turn<MH7725> your faces<MH6440> away<MH7725> from all<MH3605> your abominations<MH8441>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>For anyone<MH376> of the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>, or of the strangers<MH1616> who<MH834> reside<MH1481a> in Israel<MH3478>, who deserts<MH5144a> Me, sets<MH5927> up<MH5927> his idols<MH1544> in his heart<MH3820>, puts<MH7760> in front<MH5227> of his face<MH6440> the stumbling<MH4383> block<MH4383> of his wrongdoing<MH5771>, and <i>then</i> comes<MH935> to the prophet<MH5030> to request<MH1875> something<MH1875> of Me for himself, I the LORD<MH3068> will let Myself answer<MH6030a> him Myself. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>I will set<MH5414> My face<MH6440> against that person<MH376> and make<MH7760> him a sign<MH226> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>a proverb<MH4912>, and I will eliminate<MH3772> him from among<MH8432> My people<MH5971a>. So you will know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>“But if<MH3588> the prophet<MH5030> is persuaded<MH6601b> so that he speaks<MH1696> a word<MH1697>, it is I, the LORD<MH3068>, who have persuaded<MH6601b> that prophet<MH5030>; and I will stretch<MH5186> out<MH5186> My hand<MH3027> against<MH5921> him and eliminate<MH8045> him from among<MH8432> My people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And they will bear<MH5375> <i>the punishment for</i> their wrongdoing<MH5771>; as the wrongdoing<MH5771> of the inquirer<MH1875> is, so the wrongdoing<MH5771> of the prophet<MH5030> will be, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>in<MH4616> order<MH4616> that<MH4616> the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> may no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> stray<MH8582> from Me and no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> defile<MH2930> themselves with all<MH3605> their offenses<MH6588>. So they will be My people<MH5971a>, and I shall be their God<MH430>,”’ declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>.” <p class="hdg">The City Will Not Be Spared</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to me, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>“Son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, if<MH3588> a country<MH776> sins<MH2398> against Me by being<MH4603> unfaithful<MH4603>, and I stretch<MH5186> out<MH5186> My hand<MH3027> against<MH5921> it, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>destroy<MH7665> its supply<MH4294> of bread<MH3899>, send<MH7971> famine<MH7458> against it, and eliminate<MH3772> from it <i>both</i> human<MH120> and animal<MH929> <i>life,</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>even <i>though</i> these<MH428> three<MH7969> men<MH376>, Noah<MH5146>, Daniel<MH1840>, and Job<MH347> were in its midst<MH8432>, by their <i>own</i> righteousness<MH6666> they could <i>only</i> save<MH5337> themselves<MH5315>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“If<MH3863> I were to cause vicious<MH7451a> animals<MH2421b> to pass<MH5674a> through the land<MH776> and they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>depopulated<MH7921> it, and it became<MH1961> desolate<MH8077> so<MH4480, 1097> that<MH4480, 1097> no<MH1097> one<MH1097> would pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> it because<MH4480, 6440> of the animals<MH2421b>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><i>though</i> these<MH428> three<MH7969> men<MH376> were in its midst<MH8432>, as I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “they could not save<MH5337> either<MH518> <i>their</i> sons<MH1121> or<MH518> <i>their</i> daughters<MH1323>. They alone<MH905> would be saved<MH5337>, but the country<MH776> would be desolate<MH8077>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Or<MH176> <i>if</i> I were to bring<MH935> a sword<MH2719> on that country<MH776> and say<MH559>, ‘A sword<MH2719> is to pass<MH5674a> through the country<MH776>,’ and I eliminated<MH3772> human<MH120> and animal<MH929> <i>life</i> from it, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>even <i>though</i> these<MH428> three<MH7969> men<MH376> were in its midst<MH8432>, as I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “they could not save<MH5337> either <i>their</i> sons<MH1121> or <i>their</i> daughters<MH1323>, but they alone<MH905> would be saved<MH5337>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Or<MH176> <i>if</i> I were to send<MH7971> a plague<MH1698> against<MH413> that country<MH776> and pour<MH8210> out<MH8210> My wrath<MH2534> on it in blood<MH1818> to eliminate<MH3772> man<MH120> and animal<MH929> from it, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>even <i>though</i> Noah<MH5146>, Daniel<MH1840>, and Job<MH347> were in its midst<MH8432>, as I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “they could not save<MH5337> either<MH518> <i>their</i> son<MH1121> or<MH518> <i>their</i> daughter<MH1323>. They would save<MH5337> only themselves<MH5315> by their righteousness<MH6666>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>For this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “How<MH637> much<MH637> more<MH637, 3588> when<MH3588> I send<MH7971> My four<MH702> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>severe<MH7451a> judgments<MH8201> against<MH413> Jerusalem<MH3389>: sword<MH2719>, famine<MH7458>, vicious<MH7451a> animals<MH2421b>, and plague<MH1698> to eliminate<MH3772> human<MH120> and animal<MH929> <i>life</i> from it! <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/14-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Yet, behold<MH2009>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>survivors<MH6413> will be left<MH3498> in it who will be brought<MH3318> out<MH3318>, <i>both</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>.
