<t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>Your reward<MH7939> shall be<MH7235a> very<MH3966> great<MH7235a>.” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>But Abram<MH87> said<MH559>, “Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>GOD<MH3068>, what<MH4100> will You give<MH5414> me, since I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>am<MH1980> childless<MH6185>, and the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>heir<MH1121, 4943> of my house<MH1004> is Eliezer<MH461> of Damascus<MH1834>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Abram<MH87> also said<MH559>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Since<MH2005> You have given<MH5414> me no<MH3808> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>son<MH2233>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>one<MH1121> who has been born<MH1121> in my house<MH1004> is<MH3423> my heir<MH3423>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Then behold<MH2009>, the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came to him, saying<MH559>, “This<MH2088> man will not be<MH3423> your heir<MH3423>; but one who<MH834> will come<MH3318> from<MH3318> your own <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>body<MH4578> shall be<MH3423> your heir<MH3423>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And He took<MH3318> him outside<MH2351> and said<MH559>, “Now<MH4994> look<MH5027> toward the heavens<MH8064> and count<MH5608> the stars<MH3556>, if<MH518> you are<MH3201> able<MH3201> to count<MH5608> them.” And He said<MH559> to him, “So<MH3541> shall your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>descendants<MH2233> be.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then he believed<MH539> in the LORD<MH3068>; and He <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>credited<MH2803> it to him as righteousness<MH6666>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And He said<MH559> to him, “I am the LORD<MH3068> who<MH834> brought<MH3318> you out<MH3318> of Ur<MH218a> of the Chaldeans<MH3778>, to give<MH5414> you this<MH2088> land<MH776> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>possess<MH3423> it.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But he said<MH559>, “Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>GOD<MH3068>, how<MH4100> may I know<MH3045> that I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>possess<MH3423> it?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So He said<MH559> to him, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>Bring<MH3947> Me a three-year-old<MH8027> heifer<MH5697>, a three-year-old<MH8027> female<MH5795> goat<MH5795>, a three-year-old<MH8027> ram<MH352a>, a turtledove<MH8449>, and a young<MH1469> pigeon<MH1469>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>brought<MH3947> all<MH3605> these<MH428> to Him and cut<MH1334> them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>in two<MH8432>, and laid<MH5414> each<MH376> half<MH1335> opposite<MH7122> the other<MH7453>; but he did not cut<MH1334> the birds<MH6833>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And birds<MH5861> of<MH5861> prey<MH5861> came<MH3381> down<MH3381> upon the carcasses<MH6297>, and Abram<MH87> drove<MH5380> them away<MH5380>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Now when the sun<MH8121> was going<MH935> down, a deep<MH8639> sleep<MH8639> fell<MH5307> upon Abram<MH87>; and behold<MH2009>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>terror<MH367> <i>and</i> great<MH1419> darkness<MH2825> fell<MH5307> upon him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then <i>God</i> said<MH559> to Abram<MH87>, “Know<MH3045> for<MH3045> certain<MH3045> that your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>descendants<MH2233> will be strangers<MH1616> in a land<MH776> that is not theirs<MH1992a>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>where they will be enslaved<MH5647> and oppressed<MH6031a> for four<MH702> hundred<MH3967> years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But I will also<MH1571> judge<MH1777> the nation<MH1471> whom<MH834> they will serve<MH5647>, and afterward<MH310, 3651> they will come<MH3318> out<MH3318> with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>many<MH1419> possessions<MH7399>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/15-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>As for you, you shall go<MH935> to your fathers<MH1> in peace<MH7965>;
