Still, with only 14% of the potential feedstock for biogas & RNG in Canada currently being utilized and a patchwork of favourable policies, more needs to be done to raise awareness about the benefits of biogas & RNG and the role it plays in Canada鈥檚 low-carbon economy.</p> <p>To help support this, the Canadian Biogas Association (CBA) is actively raising awareness and empowering members and stakeholders with clear facts on the positive impact of RNG in Canada. The CBA has developed the below infographic and encourages all stakeholders in the biogas & RNG sector to echo these proven messages to continue to gain support for the well-rounded solution that RNG offers.</p> </div> </div> </section> <section> <h2>What is Biogas?</h2> <p>Biogas is a renewable source of methane gas, created when organic matter, such as food scraps or livestock manure, breaks down in an oxygen-free environment. This biological process is referred to as Anaerobic Digestion (AD). The main component of biogas is methane, also the key component of natural gas.</p> <img src="https://bettergas.ca/images/uploads/standard_site/what-is-biogas.png" class="img-fluid mt-4"> </section> <section> <h2>How is it used?</h2> <p>Biogas can be used directly to generate electricity or biogas can be captured and cleaned to create biomethane, also known as renewable natural gas (RNG). RNG is interchangeable with conventional natural gas. It is injected into a natural gas distribution system therefore reducing the amount of conventional natural gas required by the utility.
