has been and still is currently performed using multi-layer elastic theory. However, for thinly surfaced pavements subjected to low to medium volumes of traffics, the importance of non-linear stress-strain behaviour of unbound granular materials (UGM) requires the use of more sophisticated numerical models for structural design and performance of such pavements. In the present work, nonlinear unbound aggregates constitutive model is implemented within an axisymmetric finite element code developed to simulate the nonlinear behaviour of pavement structures including two local aggregates of different mineralogical nature, typically used in Algerian pavements. The performance of the mechanical model is examined about its capability of representing adequately, under various conditions, the granular material non-linearity in pavement analysis. In addition, deflection data collected by falling weight deflectometer (FWD) are incorporated into the analysis in order to assess the sensitivity of critical pavement design criteria and pavement design life to the constitutive model. Finally, conclusions of engineering significance are formulated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FWD%20backcalculations" title="FWD backcalculations">FWD backcalculations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20simulations" title="finite element simulations">finite element simulations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nonlinear%20resilient%20behaviour" title="Nonlinear resilient behaviour">Nonlinear resilient behaviour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pavement%20response%20and%20performance" title="pavement response and performance">pavement response and performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RLT%20test%20results" title="RLT test results">RLT test results</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unbound%20granular%20materials" title="unbound granular materials">unbound granular materials</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32935/effect-of-unbound-granular-materials-nonlinear-resilient-behaviour-on-pavement-response-and-performance-of-low-volume-roads" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32935.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">261</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3518</span> The Study of X- Bracing on Limit State Behaviour of Buckling Restrained Brace (BRB) in Steel Frames Using Pushover Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peyman%20Shadman%20Heidari">Peyman Shadman Heidari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamid%20Bastani"> Hamid Bastani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pouya%20Shadman%20Heidari"> Pouya Shadman Heidari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nowadays, using energy dampers in structures is highly considered for the dissipation and absorption of earthquake energy. The main advantage of using energy damper is absorbing the earthquake energy in some sections apart from the structure frame. Among different types of dampers, hysteresis dampers are of special place because of low cost, high reliability and the lack of mechanical parts. In this paper, a special kind of hysteresis damper is considered under the name of buckling brace, which is provided with the aim of the study and investigation of cross braces in boundary behaviour of steel frames using nonlinear static analysis. In this paper, ninety three models of steel frames with cross braces of buckling type are processed with different bays and heights and their plasticity index, behaviour coefficient, distribution type and the number of plastic hinges formed were calculated. Finally, the mean behaviour coefficient was compared with standard behaviour coefficient of 2800 and the suitable mode of braces placing in improving nonlinear behaviour and suitable distribution of plastic hinges were presented. In addition, it was determined that for some placing mode of braces the behaviour coefficient will increase to 15 times of recommended 2800 standard coefficient and in some placing modes, the braced bays will show considerable difference with suggested 2800 standard behaviour coefficient relative to each other. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buckling%20restrained%20brace" title="buckling restrained brace">buckling restrained brace</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plasticity%20index" title=" plasticity index"> plasticity index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=behaviour%20coefficient" title=" behaviour coefficient"> behaviour coefficient</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resistance%20coefficient" title=" resistance coefficient"> resistance coefficient</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plastic%20joints" title=" plastic joints"> plastic joints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4251/the-study-of-x-bracing-on-limit-state-behaviour-of-buckling-restrained-brace-brb-in-steel-frames-using-pushover-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4251.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">513</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3517</span> X-Ray Dynamical Diffraction &#039;Third Order Nonlinear Renninger Effect&#039;</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minas%20Balyan">Minas Balyan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nowadays X-ray nonlinear diffraction and nonlinear effects are investigated due to the presence of the third generation synchrotron sources and XFELs. X-ray third order nonlinear dynamical diffraction is considered as well. Using the nonlinear model of the usual visible light optics the third-order nonlinear Takagi’s equations for monochromatic waves and the third-order nonlinear time-dependent dynamical diffraction equations for X-ray pulses are obtained by the author in previous papers. The obtained equations show, that even if the Fourier-coefficients of the linear and the third order nonlinear susceptibilities are zero (forbidden reflection), the dynamical diffraction in the nonlinear case is related to the presence in the nonlinear equations the terms proportional to the zero order and the second order nonzero Fourier coefficients of the third order nonlinear susceptibility. Thus, in the third order nonlinear Bragg diffraction case a nonlinear analogue of the well-known Renninger effect takes place. In this work, the 'third order nonlinear Renninger effect' is considered theoretically. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bragg%20diffraction" title="Bragg diffraction">Bragg diffraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20Takagi%E2%80%99s%20equations" title=" nonlinear Takagi’s equations"> nonlinear Takagi’s equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20Renninger%20effect" title=" nonlinear Renninger effect"> nonlinear Renninger effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=third%20order%20nonlinearity" title=" third order nonlinearity"> third order nonlinearity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55035/x-ray-dynamical-diffraction-third-order-nonlinear-renninger-effect" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55035.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">385</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3516</span> Resilient Environments vs. Resilient Architects: Creativity, Practice and Education</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Y.%20Perera">Y. In much simpler terms, 'Resilient Built-Environment' should necessarily be a by-product of the 'Resilient Architect.' The inherent influence of individualistic notions of creativity upon the practice had intensified the dichotomy between theory and practice unless the notion of 'Resilience' is identified as an integral component of the architect’s notion of creativity. Analysing the architectural position is an ideal way of understanding the architect’s notion of creativity, therefore, in exploring the notion of 'Resilience' and the 'Resilient Architect' within the Sri Lankan platform, the architectural positions of two renowned architects; Geoffrey Bawa and Valentine Gunasekara were explored and analysed. The architectural positions of both the architects asserted specific rules and methodologies adopted within the process of problem solving that had subsequently led to a traceable language / pattern within their architecture. The dominance of such rules within the practice could be detrimental to adaptation of theories / notions, such as 'Resilience' and the formation of the 'Resilient Architect', unless methodologies itself are flexible, robust, despite rigidity, or else the notion of 'Resilience' exist in the form of a methodological rule. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=architectural%20position" title="architectural position">architectural position</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=creativity" title=" creativity"> creativity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=education" title=" education"> education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=practice" title=" practice"> practice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resilience" title=" resilience"> resilience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=theory" title=" theory"> theory</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70953/resilient-environments-vs-resilient-architects-creativity-practice-and-education" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70953.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">317</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3515</span> Estimation of Subgrade Resilient Modulus from Soil Index Properties</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Magdi%20M.%20E.%20Zumrawi">Magdi M. The main focus of this study is to develop a correlation that predict the resilient modulus of subgrade soils from simple and easy measured soil index properties. To achieve this objective, three subgrade soils representing typical Khartoum soils were selected and tested in the laboratory for measuring resilient modulus. Other basic laboratory tests were conducted on the soils to determine their physical properties. Several soil samples were prepared and compacted at different moisture contents and dry densities and then tested using resilient modulus testing machine. Based on experimental results, linear relationship of MR with the consistency factor &lsquo;Fc&rsquo; which is a combination of dry density, void ratio and consistency index had been developed. The results revealed that very good linear relationship found between the MR and the consistency factor with a coefficient of linearity (R2) more than 0.9. The consistency factor could be used for the prediction of the MR of compacted subgrade soils with precise and reliable results. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Consistency%20factor" title="Consistency factor">Consistency factor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resilient%20modulus" title=" resilient modulus"> resilient modulus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subgrade%20soil" title=" subgrade soil"> subgrade soil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=properties" title=" properties"> properties</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79877/estimation-of-subgrade-resilient-modulus-from-soil-index-properties" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79877.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">193</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3514</span> Study of the Diaphragm Flexibility Effect on the Inelastic Seismic Response of Thin Wall Reinforced Concrete Buildings (TWRCB): A Purpose to Reduce the Uncertainty in the Vulnerability Estimation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Zapata">A. Bonett</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Over the last two decades, the growing demand for housing in Latin American countries has led to the development of construction projects based on low and medium-rise buildings with thin reinforced concrete walls. This system, known as Thin Walls Reinforced Concrete Buildings (TWRCB), uses walls with thicknesses from 100 to 150 millimetres, with flexural reinforcement formed by welded wire mesh (WWM) with diameters between 5 and 7 millimetres, arranged in one or two layers. These walls often have irregular structural configurations, including combinations of rectangular shapes. Experimental and numerical research conducted in regions where this structural system is commonplace indicates inherent weaknesses, such as limited ductility due to the WWM reinforcement and thin element dimensions. Because of its complexity, numerical analyses have relied on two-dimensional models that don't explicitly account for the floor system, even though it plays a crucial role in distributing seismic forces among the resilient elements. Nonetheless, the numerical analyses assume a rigid diaphragm hypothesis. For this purpose, two study cases of buildings were selected, low-rise and mid-rise characteristics of TWRCB in Colombia. The buildings were analyzed in Opensees using the MVLEM-3D for walls and shell elements to simulate the slabs to involve the effect of coupling diaphragm in the nonlinear behaviour. Three cases are considered: a) models without a slab, b) models with rigid slabs, and c) models with flexible slabs. An incremental static (pushover) and nonlinear dynamic analyses were carried out using a set of 44 far-field ground motions of the FEMA P-695, scaled to 1.0 and 1.5 factors to consider the probability of collapse for the design base earthquake (DBE) and the maximum considered earthquake (MCE) for the model, according to the location sites and hazard zone of the archetypes in the Colombian NSR-10. Shear base capacity, maximum displacement at the roof, walls shear base individual demands and probabilities of collapse were calculated, to evaluate the effect of absence, rigid and flexible slabs in the nonlinear behaviour of the archetype buildings. The pushover results show that the building exhibits an overstrength between 1.1 to 2 when the slab is considered explicitly and depends on the structural walls plan configuration; additionally, the nonlinear behaviour considering no slab is more conservative than if the slab is represented. Include the flexible slab in the analysis remarks the importance to consider the slab contribution in the shear forces distribution between structural elements according to design resistance and rigidity. The dynamic analysis revealed that including the slab reduces the collapse probability of this system due to have lower displacements and deformations, enhancing the safety of residents and the seismic performance. The strategy of including the slab in modelling is important to capture the real effect on the distribution shear forces in walls due to coupling to estimate the correct nonlinear behaviour in this system and the adequate distribution to proportionate the correct resistance and rigidity of the elements in the design to reduce the possibility of damage to the elements during an earthquake. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thin%20wall%20reinforced%20concrete%20buildings" title="thin wall reinforced concrete buildings">thin wall reinforced concrete buildings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coupling%20slab" title=" coupling slab"> coupling slab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rigid%20diaphragm" title=" rigid diaphragm"> rigid diaphragm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexible%20diaphragm" title=" flexible diaphragm"> flexible diaphragm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174077/study-of-the-diaphragm-flexibility-effect-on-the-inelastic-seismic-response-of-thin-wall-reinforced-concrete-buildings-twrcb-a-purpose-to-reduce-the-uncertainty-in-the-vulnerability-estimation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174077.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">74</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3513</span> An Iterative Family for Solution of System of Nonlinear Equations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sonia%20Sonia">Sonia Sonia</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a family of iterative scheme for solving nonlinear systems of equations which have wide application in sciences and engineering. We will apply our new model to estimate the wind speed by using a new nonlinear estimator which suitable to work with our model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20systems" title="nonlinear systems">nonlinear systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=state-space%20model" title=" state-space model"> state-space model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kronecker%20product" title=" Kronecker product"> Kronecker product</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20estimator" title=" nonlinear estimator"> nonlinear estimator</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34407/a-new-nonlinear-state-space-model-and-its-application" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34407.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">691</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3511</span> Control of Chaotic Behaviour in Parallel-Connected DC-DC Buck-Boost Converters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ammar%20Nimer%20Natsheh">Ammar Nimer Natsheh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Chaos control is used to design a controller that is able to eliminate the chaotic behaviour of nonlinear dynamic systems that experience such phenomena. The significant gain in scalability and resilience that peer-to-peer networks provide has made them widely used and adopted in many real-world distributed systems and applications. The unique properties of peer-to-peer networks make them particularly suitable for randomized algorithms such as random walks and gossip algorithms. Instead of simulations of peer-to-peer networks, we leverage the Docker virtual container technology to develop implementations of the peer-to-peer networks and these distributed randomized algorithms running on top of them. We can thus analyze their behaviour and performance in realistic settings. We further consider the problem of identifying high-risk bottleneck links in the network with the objective of improving the resilience and reliability of peer-to-peer networks. We propose a randomized algorithm to solve this problem and evaluate its performance by simulations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20randomized%20algorithms" title="distributed randomized algorithms">distributed randomized algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peer-to-peer%20networks" title=" peer-to-peer networks"> peer-to-peer networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtual%20container%20technology" title=" virtual container technology"> virtual container technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resilient%20networks" title=" resilient networks"> resilient networks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133527/implementation-of-distributed-randomized-algorithms-for-resilient-peer-to-peer-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133527.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">216</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3509</span> Achieving Better Security by Using Nonlinear Cellular Automata as a Cryptographic Primitive</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Swapan%20Maiti">Swapan Maiti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dipanwita%20Roy%20Chowdhury"> Dipanwita Roy Chowdhury</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nonlinear functions are essential in different cryptoprimitives as they play an important role on the security of the cipher designs. The results reveal that the Indian culture is composite in nature and because of which there is no difference between different ethnic groups in their preference for three shopping behaviour determinants, viz., status consciousness, need for touch and companion opinion. The research model investigates the relevant relationship between these constructs by using a structural equation modelling approach, which reveals that status consciousness, need for touch and companion opinion are significant determinants of shopping behaviour. Consequently, the shopping behaviour managers have to understand the collective nature of Indian ethnic consumers in their shopping behaviour. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethnic%20groups" title="ethnic groups">ethnic groups</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=status%20consciousness" title=" status consciousness"> status consciousness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=companion%20opinion" title=" companion opinion"> companion opinion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=need%20for%20touch" title=" need for touch"> need for touch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shopping%20behaviour" title=" shopping behaviour"> shopping behaviour</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42476/shopping-behaviour-of-ethnic-groups-in-indian-culture" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42476.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">451</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3504</span> Resilient Analysis as an Alternative to Conventional Seismic Analysis Methods for the Maintenance of a Socioeconomical Functionality of Structures</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Muhammad%20Elqudah">Sara Muhammad Elqudah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vigh%20L%C3%A1szl%C3%B3%20Gergely"> Vigh László Gergely</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Catastrophic events, such as earthquakes, are sudden, short, and devastating, threatening lives, demolishing futures, and causing huge economic losses. Current seismic analyses and design standards are based on life safety levels where only some residual strength and stiffness are left in the structure leaving it beyond economical repair. Consequently, it has become necessary to introduce and implement the concept of resilient design. Resilient design is about designing for ductility over time by resisting, absorbing, and recovering from the effects of a hazard in an appropriate and efficient time manner while maintaining the functionality of the structure in the aftermath of the incident. Resilient analysis is mainly based on the fragility, vulnerability, and functionality curves where eventually a resilience index is generated from these curves, and the higher this index is, the better is the performance of the structure. In this paper, seismic performances of a simple two story reinforced concrete building, located in a moderate seismic region, has been evaluated using the conventional seismic analyses methods, which are the linear static analysis, the response spectrum analysis, and the pushover analysis, and the generated results of these analyses methods are compared to those of the resilient analysis. Results highlight that the resilience analysis was the most convenient method in generating a more ductile and functional structure from a socio-economic perspective, in comparison to the standard seismic analysis methods. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conventional%20analysis%20methods" title="conventional analysis methods">conventional analysis methods</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functionality" title=" functionality"> functionality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resilient%20analysis" title=" resilient analysis"> resilient analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20performance" title=" seismic performance"> seismic performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159399/resilient-analysis-as-an-alternative-to-conventional-seismic-analysis-methods-for-the-maintenance-of-a-socioeconomical-functionality-of-structures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159399.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">116</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3503</span> Personal Characteristics Related to Hasty Behaviour in Korea</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sun%20Jin%20Park">Sun Jin Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyung-Ja%20Cho"> Kyung-Ja Cho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study focused on characteristics related to hasty behaviour. The following conclusions were drawn from the questionnaires and interviews: (1) 49% of the children showed a decrease in disruptive behaviour compared to the pre-epidemic period; (2) boys were more disruptive than girls due to individual factors; (3) children with a decrease in disruptive behaviour were more likely to have democratic and authoritative parenting styles due to parental education and upbringing; and the higher the level of parental education, the greater the decrease in disruptive behaviour. (4) For parents who worked outside the home during the epidemic and who did not work, disruptive behaviour scores were higher for their children. Such areas relate to the way in which seismic excitation is applied to a structure, taking into account the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) and the method of analysis, in addition to identifying the excitation load properties. The selection of earthquake data input for use in nonlinear analysis and the method of analysis are still challenging issues. Thus, realistic artificial ground motion input data must be developed to certify that site properties parameters adequately describe the effects of the nonlinear inelastic behaviour of the system and that the characteristics of these parameters are coherent with the characteristics of the target parameters. Conversely, ignoring the significance of some attributes, such as frequency content, soil site properties and earthquake parameters may lead to misleading results, due to the misinterpretation of required input data and the incorrect synthesise of analysis hypothesis. This paper presents a study of the post-earthquake fire (PEF) performance of a multi-storey steel-framed building resting on soft clay, taking into account the effects of the nonlinear inelastic behaviour of the structure and soil, and the soil-structure interaction (SSI). Structures subjected to an earthquake may experience various levels of damage; the geometrical damage, which indicates the change in the initial structure’s geometry due to the residual deformation as a result of plastic behaviour, and the mechanical damage which identifies the degradation of the mechanical properties of the structural elements involved in the plastic range of deformation. Consequently, the structure presumably experiences partial structural damage but is then exposed to fire under its new residual material properties, which may result in building failure caused by a decrease in fire resistance. This scenario would be more complicated if SSI was also considered. Indeed, most earthquake design codes ignore the probability of PEF as well as the effect that SSI has on the behaviour of structures, in order to simplify the analysis procedure. Therefore, the design of structures based on existing codes which neglect the importance of PEF and SSI can create a significant risk of structural failure. In order to examine the criteria for the behaviour of a structure under PEF conditions, a two-dimensional nonlinear elasto-plastic model is developed using ABAQUS software; the effects of SSI are included. Both geometrical and mechanical damages have been taken into account after the earthquake analysis step. For comparison, an identical model is also created, which does not include the effects of soil-structure interaction. It is shown that damage to structural elements is underestimated if SSI is not included in the analysis, and the maximum percentage reduction in fire resistance is detected in the case when SSI is included in the scenario. The results are validated using the literature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abaqus%20Software" title="Abaqus Software">Abaqus Software</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Finite%20Element%20Analysis" title=" Finite Element Analysis"> Finite Element Analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=post-earthquake%20fire" title=" post-earthquake fire"> post-earthquake fire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20analysis" title=" seismic analysis"> seismic analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil-structure%20interaction" title=" soil-structure interaction"> soil-structure interaction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109955/the-effect-of-soil-structure-interaction-on-the-post-earthquake-fire-performance-of-structures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109955.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">122</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3498</span> Rethinking Everyday Urban Spaces Using Principles of Resilient Urbanism: A Case of Flooding in Thiruvalla</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prejily%20Thomas%20John">Prejily Thomas John</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Flooding of urban areas often has an adverse impact on the dense population residing in cities. The vulnerable areas are the most affected due to flooding, which even results in loss of life. The increasing trend of urban floods is a universal phenomenon and leads to a vital loss in the physical, economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The shift from floods being natural disasters to man-made disasters due to unplanned urban growth is evident from national and international reports. Thiruvalla, bordered by the Manimala River in the Pathanamthitta district, is an important urban node and a drainage point of various estuaries. The city is often faced with flash floods and overflow from rivers since it is a low-lying land. The need for urban flood resilience for planned urban development is a necessity for livability in consideration of the topography. The paper focuses on developing an urban design framework in everyday urban spaces through the principles of resilient urbanism. The principles guide the creation of flood-resilient spaces and productive urban landscapes for the city to enable better and safer living conditions. A flood-resilient city not only prepares the city for disasters but also improves the ecological and economic conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=everyday%20urban%20spaces" title="everyday urban spaces">everyday urban spaces</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flood%20resilience" title=" flood resilience"> flood resilience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resilient%20urbanism" title=" resilient urbanism"> resilient urbanism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=productive%20urban%20landscapes" title=" productive urban landscapes"> productive urban landscapes</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155993/rethinking-everyday-urban-spaces-using-principles-of-resilient-urbanism-a-case-of-flooding-in-thiruvalla" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155993.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">81</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3497</span> X-Ray Dynamical Diffraction Rocking Curves in Case of Third Order Nonlinear Renninger Effect</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minas%20Balyan">Minas Balyan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the third-order nonlinear Takagi’s equations for monochromatic waves and in the third-order nonlinear time-dependent dynamical diffraction equations for X-ray pulses for forbidden reflections the Fourier-coefficients of the linear and the third order nonlinear susceptibilities are zero. The dynamical diffraction in the nonlinear case is related to the presence in the nonlinear equations the terms proportional to the zero order and the second order nonzero Fourier coefficients of the third order nonlinear susceptibility. Thus in the third order nonlinear Bragg diffraction case a nonlinear analogue of the well known Renninger effect takes place. In this work, the ‘third order nonlinear Renninger effect’ is considered theoretically and numerically. If the reflection exactly is forbidden the diffracted wave’s amplitude is zero both in Laue and Bragg cases since the boundary conditions and dynamical diffraction equations are compatible with zero solution. But in real crystals due to some percent of dislocations and other localized defects, the atoms are displaced with respect to their equilibrium positions. Thus in real crystals susceptibilities of forbidden reflection are by some order small than for usual not forbidden reflections but are not exactly equal to zero. The numerical calculations for susceptibilities two order less than for not forbidden reflection show that in Bragg geometry case the nonlinear reflection curve’s behavior is the same as for not forbidden reflection, but for forbidden reflection the rocking curves’ width, center and boundaries are two order sensitive on the input intensity value. This gives an opportunity to investigate third order nonlinear X-ray dynamical diffraction for not intense beams – 0.001 in the units of critical intensity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=third%20order%20nonlinearity" title="third order nonlinearity">third order nonlinearity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bragg%20diffraction" title=" Bragg diffraction"> Bragg diffraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20Renninger%20effect" title=" nonlinear Renninger effect"> nonlinear Renninger effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rocking%20curves" title=" rocking curves"> rocking curves</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56984/x-ray-dynamical-diffraction-rocking-curves-in-case-of-third-order-nonlinear-renninger-effect" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56984.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">407</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3496</span> A Filtering Algorithm for a Nonlinear State-Space Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Eqal%20Al%20Mazrooei">Abdullah Eqal Al Mazrooei</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Kalman filter is a famous algorithm that utilizes to estimate the state in the linear systems. The frame is supported by four nonlinear concentrated springs near the four corners. The restoring forces of the springs have cubic non-linearity and linear component of the nonlinear springs has complex quantity to represent linear hysteresis damping. The damping layer of the frame structures has complex modulus of elasticity. Further, the discretized equations in physical coordinate are transformed into the nonlinear ordinary coupled differential equations using normal coordinate corresponding to linear natural modes. Comparing shares of strain energy of the elastic frame, the damping layer and the springs, we evaluate the influences of the damping couplings on the linear and nonlinear impact responses. Thanks to the emerging fields of systems and synthetic biology, scientists are beginning to unravel these regulatory, signaling, and metabolic interactions and to understand their coordinated action. Reverse engineering of biological networks has has several benefits but a poor quality of data combined with the difficulty in reproducing it limits the applicability of these methods. A few years back, many of the commonly used predictive algorithms were tested on a network constructed in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) to resolve this issue. The network was a synthetic network of five genes regulating each other for the so-called in vivo reverse-engineering and modeling assessment (IRMA). The network was constructed in S. cereviase since it is a simple and well characterized organism. The synthetic network included a variety of regulatory interactions, thus capturing the behaviour of larger eukaryotic gene networks on a smaller scale. This paper adopts a new nonlinear electroelastic constitutive theory to examine radial deformation of a pressurized thick-walled spherical shell of soft dielectric material with compliant electrodes on its inner and outer surfaces. A general formular for the internal pressure, which depends on the deformation and a potential difference between boundary electrodes or uniform surface charge distributions, is obtained in terms of special function. To illustrate the effects of an applied electric field on the mechanical behaviour of the shell, three different energy functions with distinct mechanical properties are employed for numerical purposes. The observed behaviour of the shells is preserved in the presence of an applied electric field, and the influence of the field due to a potential difference declines more slowly with the increasing deformation to that produced by a surface charge. Counterpart results are then presented for the thin-walled shell approximation as a limiting case of a thick-walled shell without restriction on the energy density. In the absence of internal pressure, it is obtained that inflation is caused by the application of an electric field. The resulting numerical solutions of the theory presented in this work are in agreement with those predicted by the generally adopted Dorfmann and Ogden model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constitutive%20theory" title="constitutive theory">constitutive theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elastic%20dielectric" title=" elastic dielectric"> elastic dielectric</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electroelasticity" title=" electroelasticity"> electroelasticity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20deformation" title=" finite deformation"> finite deformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20response" title=" nonlinear response"> nonlinear response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spherical%20shell" title=" spherical shell"> spherical shell</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183383/finite-deformation-of-a-dielectric-elastomeric-spherical-shell-based-on-a-new-nonlinear-electroelastic-constitutive-theory" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183383.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">93</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3490</span> Addressing Environmental Concerns and Sustainability: Towards a Greener and Resilient Future</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zaffar%20Hayat%20Nawaz%20Khan">Zaffar Hayat Nawaz Khan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the face of growing environmental concerns, the need for sustainable practices has become increasingly urgent.
