Tell<MH5046> me, what<MH4100> do you have<MH3426> in the house<MH1004>?” And she said<MH559>, “Your servant<MH8198> has<MH369> nothing<MH369, 3605> in the house<MH1004> except<MH3588, 518> a jar<MH610> of oil<MH8081>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, “Go<MH1980>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>borrow<MH7592> containers<MH3627> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>elsewhere<MH2351> for yourself, empty<MH7386> containers<MH3627> from all<MH3605> your neighbors<MH7934>—do not get<MH4591> <i>too</i> few<MH4591>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Then you shall come<MH935> in<MH935> and shut<MH5462> the door<MH1817> behind<MH1157> you and your sons<MH1121>, and pour<MH3332> into all<MH3605> these<MH428> containers<MH3627>; and you shall set<MH5265> aside<MH5265> what is full<MH4392>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>So she left<MH1980, 4480> him and shut<MH5462> the door<MH1817> behind<MH1157> her and her sons<MH1121>; they <i>began</i> bringing<MH5066> <i>the containers</i> to her, and she poured<MH3332> <i>the oil.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>When the containers<MH3627> were full<MH4390>, she said<MH559> to her son<MH1121>, “Bring<MH5066> me another<MH5750> container<MH3627>.” But he said<MH559> to her, “There<MH369> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>are<MH369> no<MH369> more<MH5750> containers<MH3627>.” Then the oil<MH8081> stopped<MH5975>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>So she came<MH935> and told<MH5046> the man<MH376> of God<MH430>. And he said<MH559>, “Go<MH1980>, sell<MH4376> the oil<MH8081> and pay<MH7999a> your debt<MH5386>, and you <i>and</i> your sons<MH1121> can live<MH2421a> on the rest<MH3498>.” <p class="hdg">The Shunammite Woman</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now a day<MH3117> came<MH1961> when Elisha<MH477> went<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> to Shunem<MH7766>, where<MH8033> there was a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>prominent<MH1419> woman<MH802>, and she urged<MH2388> him to eat<MH398> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>food<MH3899>. And so it was, as often<MH1767> as he passed<MH5674a> by<MH5674a>, <i>that</i> he turned<MH5493> in<MH5493> there<MH8033> to eat<MH398> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>food<MH3899>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And she said<MH559> to her husband<MH376>, “Behold<MH2009> now<MH4994>, I am<MH3045> aware<MH3045> that this<MH1931> is a holy<MH6918> man<MH376> of God<MH430> passing<MH5674a> by us repeatedly<MH8548>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Please<MH4994>, let’s make<MH6213a> a little<MH6996a> walled<MH7023> upper<MH5944> room<MH5944>, and let’s set<MH7760> up<MH7760> a bed<MH4296> for him there<MH8033>, and a table<MH7979>, a chair<MH3678>, and a lampstand<MH4501>; then it shall be, when he comes<MH935> to us, <i>that</i> he can turn<MH5493> in<MH5493> there<MH8033>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Now <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>one day<MH3117> he came<MH935> there<MH8033>, and turned<MH5493> in<MH5493> to the upper<MH5944> room<MH5944> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>rested<MH7901, 8033>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559> to his servant<MH5288> Gehazi<MH1522>, “Call<MH7121> this<MH2088> Shunammite<MH7767>.” And when he had called<MH7121> her, she stood<MH5975> before<MH6440> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And he said<MH559> to him, “Say<MH559> now<MH4994> to her, ‘Behold<MH2009>, you have taken<MH2729> trouble<MH2729> for us with all<MH3605> this<MH2088> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>care<MH2731>; what<MH4100> can I do<MH6213a> for you? <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Would<MH3426> you like<MH3426> me to speak<MH1696> for you to the king<MH4428> or<MH176> to the commander<MH8269> of the army<MH6635>?’” But she <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>answered<MH559>, “I live<MH3427> among<MH8432> my own people<MH5971b>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So he said<MH559>, “What<MH4100> then is to be done<MH6213a> for her?” And Gehazi<MH1522> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>answered<MH559>, “It is a fact<MH61> that she has<MH369> no<MH369> son<MH1121>, and her husband<MH376> is<MH2204> old<MH2204>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>He then said<MH559>, “Call<MH7121> her.” When he had called<MH7121> her, she stood<MH5975> in the doorway<MH6607>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, “At this<MH2088> season<MH4150> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>next<MH2416a> year<MH6256>, you are going to embrace<MH2263> a son<MH1121>.” And she said<MH559>, “No<MH408>, my lord<MH113>, you man<MH376> of God<MH430>, do not lie<MH3576> to your servant<MH8198>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Now the woman<MH802> conceived<MH2029> and gave<MH3205> birth<MH3205> to a son<MH1121> at that season<MH4150> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>the next<MH2416a> year<MH6256>, as Elisha<MH477> had told<MH1696> her. <p class="hdg">The Shunammite’s Son</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>When the child<MH3206> was grown<MH1431>, the day<MH3117> came<MH1961> that he went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to his father<MH1>, to the reapers<MH7114b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And he said<MH559> to his father<MH1>, “My head<MH7218>, my head<MH7218>!” And <i>his father</i> said<MH559> to his servant<MH5288>, “Carry<MH5375> him to his mother<MH517>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>When he had carried<MH5375> him and brought<MH935> him to his mother<MH517>, he sat<MH3427> on her <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>lap<MH1290> until<MH5704> noon<MH6672a>, and <i>then</i> he died<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And she went<MH5927> up<MH5927> and laid<MH7901> him on the bed<MH4296> of the man<MH376> of God<MH430>, and shut<MH5462> <i>the door</i> behind<MH1157> him and left<MH3318>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Then she called<MH7121> to her husband<MH376> and said<MH559>, “Please<MH4994> send<MH7971> me one<MH259> of the servants<MH5288> and one<MH259> of the donkeys<MH860>, so that I may run<MH7323> to the man<MH376> of God<MH430> and return<MH7725>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But he said<MH559>, “Why<MH4069> are you going<MH1980> to him today<MH3117>? It is neither<MH3808> new<MH2320> moon<MH2320> nor<MH3808> Sabbath<MH7676>.” So she <i>just</i> said<MH559>, “<i>It will be</i> fine<MH7965>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Then she saddled<MH2280> the donkey<MH860> and said<MH559> to her servant<MH5288>, “Drive<MH5090a> <i>the donkey</i> and go<MH1980> on; do not slow<MH6113> down<MH6113> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>the pace<MH7392> for me unless<MH3588, 518> I tell<MH559> you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>So she went<MH1980> on and came<MH935> to the man<MH376> of God<MH430> at Mount<MH2022> Carmel<MH3760>. <p class="paragraph"> When the man<MH376> of God<MH430> saw<MH7200> her at a distance<MH4480, 5048>, he said<MH559> to Gehazi<MH1522> his servant<MH5288>, “Behold<MH2009>, that<MH1975> person<MH1975> there<MH1975> is the Shunammite<MH7767>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Please<MH4994> run<MH7323> now<MH6258> to meet<MH7122> her and say<MH559> to her, ‘Is it <i>going</i> well<MH7965> for you? Is it <i>going</i> well<MH7965> for your husband<MH376>? Is it <i>going</i> well<MH7965> for the child<MH3206>?’” Then she <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>answered<MH559>, “It is <i>going</i> well<MH7965>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But she came<MH935> to the man<MH376> of God<MH430> at the hill<MH2022> and took<MH2388> hold<MH2388> of his feet<MH7272>. And Gehazi<MH1522> came<MH5066> up<MH5066> to push<MH1920> her away<MH1920>, but the man<MH376> of God<MH430> said<MH559>, “Leave<MH7503> her alone<MH7503>, for her soul<MH5315> is<MH4843> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>troubled<MH4843> within her; and the LORD<MH3068> has concealed<MH5956> <i>it</i> from me and has not informed<MH5046> me.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then she said<MH559>, “Did I ask<MH7592> for a son<MH1121> from my lord<MH113>? Did I not say<MH559>, ‘Do not give<MH7951> me false<MH7951> hope<MH7951>’?” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559> to Gehazi<MH1522>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>Get<MH2296, 4975> ready<MH2296, 4975> and take<MH3947> my staff<MH4938b> in your hand<MH3027>, and go<MH1980>; if<MH3588> you meet<MH4672> anyone<MH376>, do not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>greet<MH1288> him, and if<MH3588> anyone<MH376> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>greets<MH1288> you, do not reply<MH6030a> to him. And lay<MH7760> my staff<MH4938b> on the boy’s<MH5288> face<MH6440>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>The mother<MH517> of the boy<MH5288> said<MH559>, “As <i>surely as</i> the LORD<MH3068> lives<MH2416a> and you yourself<MH5315> live<MH2416a>, I will not leave<MH5800a> you.” So he got<MH6965> up<MH6965> and followed<MH1980, 310> her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Then Gehazi<MH1522> went<MH5674a> on<MH5674a> ahead<MH6440> of them and laid<MH7760> the staff<MH4938b> on the boy’s<MH5288> face<MH6440>, but there<MH369> was<MH369> no<MH369> sound<MH6963> or<MH369> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>response<MH7182>. So he returned<MH7725> to meet<MH7122> him and informed<MH5046> him, saying<MH559>, “The boy<MH5288> has not awakened<MH7019a>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>When Elisha<MH477> entered<MH935> the house<MH1004>, behold<MH2009> the boy<MH5288> was dead<MH4191>, laid<MH7901> on his bed<MH4296>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>So he entered<MH935> and shut<MH5462> the door<MH1817> behind<MH1157> them both<MH8147>, and he prayed<MH6419> to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Then he got<MH5927> up<MH5927> <i>on the bed</i> and lay<MH7901> on the child<MH3206>, and put<MH7760> his mouth<MH6310> on his mouth<MH6310>, his eyes<MH5869> on his eyes<MH5869>, his hands<MH3709> on his hands<MH3709>, and he bent<MH1457> down<MH1457> on him; and the flesh<MH1320> of the child<MH3206> became<MH2552> warm<MH2552>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Then he returned<MH7725> and walked<MH1980> in the house<MH1004> back<MH2008> and forth<MH2008> once<MH259>, and went<MH5927> up<MH5927> and bent<MH1457> down<MH1457> on him; and the boy<MH5288> sneezed<MH2237> seven<MH7651> times<MH6471>, then the boy<MH5288> opened<MH6491b> his eyes<MH5869>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And he called<MH7121> Gehazi<MH1522> and said<MH559>, “Call<MH7121> this<MH2088> Shunammite<MH7767>.” So he called<MH7121> her. And when she came<MH935> to him, he said<MH559>, “Pick<MH5375> up<MH5375> your son<MH1121>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Then she came<MH935> in<MH935> and fell<MH5307> at his feet<MH7272> and bowed<MH2331c> down<MH2331c> to the ground<MH776>, and she picked<MH5375> up<MH5375> her son<MH1121> and left<MH3318>. <p class="hdg">The Poisonous Stew</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>When Elisha<MH477> returned<MH7725> to Gilgal<MH1537>, <i>there was</i> a famine<MH7458> in the land<MH776>. <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>As the sons<MH1121> of the prophets<MH5030> were sitting<MH3427> in front<MH6440> of him, he said<MH559> to his servant<MH5288>, “Put<MH8239> on the large<MH1419> pot<MH5518a> and boil<MH1310> stew<MH5138> for the sons<MH1121> of the prophets<MH5030>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>Then one<MH259> went<MH3318> out<MH3318> into the field<MH7704> to gather<MH3950> mallow<MH219b>, and found<MH4672> a wild<MH7704> vine<MH1612> and gathered<MH3950> from it his lap<MH899b> full<MH4393> of wild<MH7704> gourds<MH6498>; and he came<MH935> and sliced<MH6398> them into the pot<MH5518a> of stew<MH5138>, because<MH3588> they did not know<MH3045> <i>what they were.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>So they poured<MH3332> <i>it</i> out<MH3332> for the men<MH376> to eat<MH398>. But as they were eating<MH398> the stew<MH5138>, they cried<MH6817> out<MH6817> and said<MH559>, “You man<MH376> of God<MH430>, there is death<MH4194> in the pot<MH5518a>!” And they were<MH3201> unable<MH3808, 3201> to eat<MH398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, “Bring<MH3947> flour<MH7058>.” And he threw<MH7993> it into the pot<MH5518a>, and said<MH559>, “Pour<MH3332> <i>it</i> out<MH3332> for the people<MH5971a> that they may eat<MH398>.” Then there was nothing<MH3808, 1697> harmful<MH7451a> in the pot<MH5518a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/4-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>Now a man<MH376> came<MH935> from Baal-shalishah<MH1190>, and brought<MH935> the man<MH376> of God<MH430> bread<MH3899> of the first<MH1061> fruits<MH1061>, twenty<MH6242> loaves<MH3899> of barley<MH8184> and fresh<MH3759> grain<MH3759> in his sack<MH6861>.
