Such miracles are wrought by His hands. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary? the brother of James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? Are not His sisters here with us? And He went about the villages in a circuit teaching.<p> <A name="8"></a><p class="hdg">The Ministry of the Twelve<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/10.htm#5">Matthew 10:5–15</a>; <a href ="../luke/9.htm">Luke 9:1–6</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And He calls the twelve to Him, and began to send them out two by two; and He gave them authority over unclean spirits. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And He commanded them that they should take nothing for the way except staff only; no valise, no bread, no money in the girdle; <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>but having put on your sandals: and put not on two coats. <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And He said to them, <FR>Into whatsoever house you may enter, there abide until you may go out from thence.<Fr> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><FR>And whatsoever place may not receive you nor hear you, going forth thence, shake off the dust which is beneath your feet for a testimony unto them.<Fr> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And having gone out they preached that they must repent; <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>and they cast out many demons; and anointed many sick with oil, and healed them.<p> <A name="15"></a><p class="hdg">The Beheading of John<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/14.htm">Matthew 14:1–12</a>; <a href ="../luke/9.htm#7">Luke 9:7–9</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And king Herod heard; for His name became known: and said, John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works are wrought in Him. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And others continued to say, That He is Elijah; and others continued to say that He is a prophet, indeed one of the prophets. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But Herod hearing said, That, He is John, whom I beheaded; He is risen from the dead.<p> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>For Herod himself having sent, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip: because he married her. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>For John said to Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have the wife of thy brother. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And Herodias hated him, and wished to kill him; and was not able; <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>for Herod was afraid of John, knowing him to be a just and holy man, and he continued to hold him in prison: and hearing him, he continued to do many things, and he was hearing him gladly. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And it being a high day, when Herod on his birthday made a feast to his mighty men, and chiliarchs, and the first men of Galilee; <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and the daughter of Herodias herself, having come in and danced, and pleased Herod and those sitting with him; the king said to the damsel. Ask what you may wish, and I will give it to you. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And he promised her, I will give you whatsoever you may ask, even unto the half of my kingdom. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And having gone out, she said to her mother, What shall I ask And she said, The head of John the Baptist. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And she having come in to the king, immediately with haste asked him, saying; I wish, that you may give to me immediately, the head of John the Baptist in a charger. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And the king being grieved exceedingly; on account of his oaths, and those sitting with him, was not willing to reject her. <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And the king immediately sending forth a soldier of his guard, commanded that his head should be brought. <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And having departed, he beheaded him in prison: and brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother. <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And his disciples having heard, came and took his body, and put it in a sepulcher.<p> <A name="31"></a><p class="hdg">The Feeding of the Five Thousand<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/14.htm#13">Matthew 14:13–21</a>; <a href ="../luke/9.htm#10">Luke 9:10–17</a>; <a href ="../john/6.htm">John 6:1–15</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>The apostles return to Jesus, and related unto Him all things, even so many as they did, and so many as they taught. <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And He said to them, <FR>Come ye privately into a desert place, and rest a little while.<Fr> For many were coming and going, neither had they leisure even to eat. <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And they came away into a desert place privately in a ship.<p> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And the multitudes saw them going, and many recognized them, and they ran together thither on foot from many cities, and came before them and came together to Him. <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And Jesus having come out saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion in their behalf, because they were as sheep having no shepherd: and He began to teach them many things. <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And already the hour being late, His disciples coming to Him, say, That it is a desert place, and the hour is already late: <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>send them away, that having gone into the surrounding country and the villages, they may purchase for themselves bread: for they have not what they may eat. <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And responding He said to them, <FR>You give to them to eat.<Fr> And they say to Him, Having gone away must we purchase the loaves of two hundred denaria, and give them to eat? <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And He says to them; <FR>How many loaves have you? go and see.<Fr> And having ascertained, they say, five loaves and two fishes. <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And He commanded them all to sit down in companies on the green grass. <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And they sat down in ranks, about one hundred, and about fifty. <A name="42"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And taking the five loaves and the two fishes, looking up to heaven, He blessed them; and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples, that they should dispense to them; and He divided the two fishes among all. <A name="43"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And they all ate, and were filled; <A name="44"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>and they took up the fragments, twelve baskets full, and from the fishes. <A name="45"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>And those eating the bread were five thousand men.<p> <A name="46"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Walks on Water<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/14.htm#22">Matthew 14:22–33</a>; <a href ="../john/6.htm#16">John 6:16–21</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>And immediately He constrained His disciples to embark into the ship, and go before Him to the other side to Bethsaida, until He shall send away the multitude. <A name="47"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>And having dismissed them, He went away into the mountain to pray.<p> <A name="48"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>And it being evening, the ship was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone upon the land. <A name="49"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>And He seeing them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary to them, and about the fourth watch of the night He comes to them, walking on the sea; and He wished to pass by them. <A name="50"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>But they, seeing Him walking on the sea, thought it was a specter, and cried out. <A name="51"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>For they all saw Him, and were alarmed. And immediately He spoke with them, and says to them, <FR>Be of good cheer; I am He; be not afraid.<Fr> <A name="52"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/6-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>And He went up to them into the ship; and the wind ceased.
