Zaśmieconymi, wąskimi uliczkami przejeżdżają konne zaprzęgi i auta z pierwszej połowy XX wieku. O tym co dzieje się na świecie, mieszkańcy klaustrofobicznych kwater dowiadują się z ogromnych gazet i topornych telewizorów, z niewielkimi, monochromatycznymi ekranami.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">To wizja, która mogłaby pojawić się w głowie Terry’ego Gilliama, ale reżyser „Brasil” zapewne wykorzystałby ją do przedstawienia znacznie mniej dosłownej historii. Wydaje mi się, ze w większym stopniu Glenn Standring czerpał z „Mrocznego miasta”. To zarazem plus, jak i minus. Nawiązując do dusznej atmosfery stworzył zupełnie nowe dzieło, za co należą się brawa. Podobno jest to jeden z najdroższych filmów nakręconych przez nowozelandzkie studia. Co z tego, skoro nadal mamy do czynienia z mizernymi środkami (ok. 11 mln USD). Kiedy akcja przenosi się do wnętrz (na szczęście w większości bardzo klimatycznych), by spędzić tam większość z zaledwie 88 minut filmu, szybko odczuwamy, że reżyser chciał nakręcić coś zupełnie innego, a po prostu nie miał na to pieniędzy.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Bardzo bym chciał, aby nakręcono remake lub sequel z odrobinę wyższym budżetem – takim, który pozwoliłby na zachowanie autorskiej niezależności, ale także na pełniejsze przedstawienie plastycznej wizji. Biorąc jednak pod uwagę, że niemal dekadę po premierze nikt do tego tematu nie wraca, możemy ze smutkiem założyć, że otwarte zakończenie filmu będzie na zawsze pożegnaniem z tym uniwersum.
