In this paper, we try to give a comprehensive approach to calculate the impact of the ground on the radiated electromagnetic fields to lightning. The vertical component of lightning electric field is calculated with a reasonable approximation assuming a perfectly conducting ground in case the observation point does not exceed a few kilometres from the lightning channel. However, for distant observation points the radiated vertical component of lightning electric field is attenuated due finitely conducting ground. The attenuation is calculated using the expression elaborated for both low and high frequencies. The horizontal component of the electric field, however, is more affected by a finite conductivity of a ground. Besides, the contribution of the horizontal component of the electric field, to induced voltages on an overhead transmission line, is greater than that of the vertical component. Therefore, the calculation of the horizontal electric field is great concern for the simulation of lightning-induced voltages. For field to transmission lines coupling the ground impedance is calculated for early time behaviour and for low frequency range. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20engineering" title="power engineering">power engineering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radiated%20electromagnetic%20fields" title=" radiated electromagnetic fields"> radiated electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lightning-induced%20voltages" title=" lightning-induced voltages"> lightning-induced voltages</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lightning%20electric%20field" title=" lightning electric field"> lightning electric field</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7041/a-comprehensive-approach-in-calculating-the-impact-of-the-ground-on-radiated-electromagnetic-fields-due-to-lightning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7041.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">405</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2697</span> The Regulation on Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields for Brazilian Power System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hugo%20Manoel%20Olivera%20Da%20Silva">Hugo Manoel Olivera Da Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricardo%20Silva%20Th%C3%A9%20Pontes"> Ricardo Silva Thé Pontes</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this work, is presented an analysis of the Brazilian regulation on human exposure to electromagnetic fields, which provides limits to electric fields, magnetic and electromagnetic fields. Mercury is among the most toxic metals. Dental amalgam fillings cause significant exposure to elemental mercury vapour in the general population. Today, substantial evidence indicates that mercury even at low doses may lead to toxicity. Increased release of mercury from dental amalgam fillings after exposure to MRI or microwave radiation emitted by mobile phones has been previously shown by our team. Moreover, our recent studies on the effects of stronger magnetic fields entirely confirmed our previous findings. From the other point of view, we have also shown that papers which reported no increased release of mercury after MRI, may have some methodological flaws. Over the past several years, our lab has focused on the health effects of exposure of laboratory animals and humans to different sources of electromagnetic fields such as mobile phones and their base stations, mobile phone jammers, laptop computers, radars, dentistry cavitrons, and MRI. As a strong association between exposure to electromagnetic fields and mercury level has been found in our studies, our findings lead us to this conclusion that occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields in workers with dental amalgam fillings can lead to elevated levels of mercury. Studies which reported that exposure to mercury can be a risk factor of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) due to the accumulation of amyloid beta protein (Aβ) in the brain and those reported that long-term occupational exposure to high levels of electromagnetic fields can increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia in male workers support our concept and confirm the significant role of the occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields in increasing the mercury level in workers with amalgam fillings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=occupational%20exposure" title="occupational exposure">occupational exposure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20fields" title=" electromagnetic fields"> electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workers" title=" workers"> workers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mercury%20release" title=" mercury release"> mercury release</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dental%20amalgam" title=" dental amalgam"> dental amalgam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=restorative%20dentistry" title=" restorative dentistry"> restorative dentistry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23460/occupational-exposure-to-electromagnetic-fields-can-increase-the-release-of-mercury-from-dental-amalgam-fillings" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23460.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">432</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2695</span> Quantitative Changes in Biofilms of a Seawater Tubular Heat Exchanger Subjected to Electromagnetic Fields Treatment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sergio%20Garcia">Sergio Garcia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alfredo%20Trueba"> Alfredo Trueba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20M.%20Vega"> Luis M. This study evaluated the effect of Electromagnetic Fields on biofilms in tubular heat exchangers using seawater cooling. The results showed an up to 40% reduction of the biofilm thickness compared to the untreated control tubes. The presence of organic matter was reduced by 75%, the inorganic mater was reduced by 87%, and 53% of the dissolved solids were eliminated. The biofilm thermal conductivity in the treated tube was reduced by 53% as compared to the control tube. The hardness in the effluent during the experimental period was decreased by 18% in the treated tubes compared with control tubes. Our results show that the electromagnetic fields treatment has a great potential in the process of removing biofilms in heat exchanger. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biofilm" title="biofilm">biofilm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20exchanger" title=" heat exchanger"> heat exchanger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20fields" title=" electromagnetic fields"> electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seawater" title=" seawater"> seawater</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90367/quantitative-changes-in-biofilms-of-a-seawater-tubular-heat-exchanger-subjected-to-electromagnetic-fields-treatment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90367.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">191</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2694</span> Environmental Impact Assessment of Electromagnetic Fields Emitted from Mobile Base Station in Central Area of KSA</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20Abdullah%20Alrajhi">Mohammed Abdullah Alrajhi </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The rapid growth in the number of mobile phone subscribers has resulted in an increased number of mobile base stations all over the world. The total number of mobile subscriptions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reached around 50 million at the end of 2014, with a penetration rate of 165.1% according to the quarterly electronic newsletter issued by the Communications and Information Technology Commission. The current investigation was conducted primarily to measure the level of electromagnetic fields emitted from 400 mobile base stations for the purpose of environmental safety and radiation protection in light of national guidelines for public exposure as well as the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). The outcomes of this investigation provide valuable comments and recommendation for safety and protection of electromagnetic fields emitted from mobile base stations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20fields" title="electromagnetic fields">electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile" title=" mobile"> mobile</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=safety" title=" safety"> safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=protection" title=" protection"> protection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ICNIRP" title=" ICNIRP"> ICNIRP</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19994/environmental-impact-assessment-of-electromagnetic-fields-emitted-from-mobile-base-station-in-central-area-of-ksa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19994.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">422</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2693</span> Therapeutic Application of Light and Electromagnetic Fields to Reduce Hyper-Inflammation Triggered by COVID-19 </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Blanche%20Aguida">Blanche Aguida</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marootpong%20Pooam"> Marootpong Pooam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nathalie%20Jourdan"> Nathalie Jourdan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Margaret%20Ahmad"> Margaret Ahmad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> COVID-19-related morbidity is associated with exaggerated inflammation and cytokine production in the lungs, leading to acute respiratory failure. The cellular mechanisms underlying these so-called ‘cytokine storms’ are regulated through the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling pathway and by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Both light (photobiomodulation) and magnetic fields (e.g., pulsed electromagnetic field) stimulation are non-invasive therapies known to confer anti-inflammatory effects and regulate ROS signaling pathways. Here we show that daily exposure to two 10-minute intervals of moderate-intensity infra-red light significantly lowered the inflammatory response induced via the TLR4 receptor signaling pathway in human cell cultures. Anti-inflammatory effects were likewise achieved by electromagnetic field exposure of cells to daily 10-minute intervals of either pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) or to low-level static magnetic fields. Because current illumination and electromagnetic field therapies have no known side effects and are already approved for some medical uses, we have here developed protocols for verification in clinical trials of COVID 19 infection. These treatments are affordable, simple to implement, and may help to resolve the acute respiratory distress of COVID 19 patients both in the home and in the hospital. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID%2019" title="COVID 19">COVID 19</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20fields%20therapy" title=" electromagnetic fields therapy"> electromagnetic fields therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inflammation" title=" inflammation"> inflammation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photobiomodulation%20therapy" title=" photobiomodulation therapy"> photobiomodulation therapy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135632/therapeutic-application-of-light-and-electromagnetic-fields-to-reduce-hyper-inflammation-triggered-by-covid-19" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135632.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">144</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2692</span> Comparison of Radiated Emissions in Offshore and Onshore Wind Turbine Towers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sajeesh%20Sulaiman">Sajeesh Sulaiman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gomathisankar%20A."> Gomathisankar A.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aravind%20Devaraj"> Aravind Devaraj</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aswin%20R."> Aswin R.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vijay%20Kumar%20G."> Vijay Kumar G.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rachana%20Raj"> Rachana Raj</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Wind turbines are the next big answer to the emerging and ever-growing demand for electricity, and this need is increasing day by day. These high mast structures, whether on land or on the sea, has also become one of the big sources of electromagnetic interferences (EMI) in the not so distant past. With the emergence of the AC-AC converter and drawing of large power cables through the wind turbine towers has made this clean and efficient source of renewable energy to become one of the culprits in creating electromagnetic interference. This paper will present the sources of such EMIs, a comparison of radiated emissions (both electric and magnetic field) patterns in wind turbine towers for both onshore and offshore wind turbines and close look into the IEC 61400-40 (new standard for EMC design on wind turbine). At present, offshore wind turbines are tested in onshore facilities. As a strong positive correlation between maternal and cord blood mercury levels has been found in some studies, our findings regarding the effect of exposure to electromagnetic fields on the release of mercury from dental amalgam fillings lead us to this conclusion that pregnant women with dental amalgam fillings should limit their exposure to electromagnetic fields to prevent toxic effects of mercury in their foetuses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pregnancy" title="pregnancy">pregnancy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=foetus" title=" foetus"> foetus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mercury%20release" title=" mercury release"> mercury release</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dental%20amalgam" title=" dental amalgam"> dental amalgam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20fields" title=" electromagnetic fields"> electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MRI" title=" MRI"> MRI</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20phones" title=" mobile phones"> mobile phones</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21149/pregnant-women-with-dental-amalgam-fillings-limiting-their-exposure-to-electromagnetic-fields-to-prevent-the-toxic-effects-of-mercury-in-their-fetuses" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21149.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">275</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2690</span> Managing the Magnetic Protection of Workers in Magnetic Resonance Imaging</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Safoin%20Aktaou">Safoin Aktaou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aya%20Al%20Masri"> Aya Al Masri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamel%20Guerchouche"> Kamel Guerchouche</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malorie%20Martin"> Malorie Martin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fouad%20Maaloul"> Fouad Maaloul</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: In the ‘Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)’ department, all workers involved in preparing the patient, setting it up, tunnel cleaning, etc. are likely to be exposed to ‘ElectroMagnetic fields (EMF)’ emitted by the MRI device. Exposure to EMF can cause adverse radio-biological effects to workers. The purpose of this study is to propose an organizational process to manage and control EMF risks. Materials and methods: The study was conducted at seven MRI departments using machines with 1.5 and 3 Tesla magnetic fields. We assessed the exposure of each one by measuring the two electromagnetic fields (static and dynamic) at different distances from the MRI machine both inside and around the examination room. Measurement values were compared with British and American references (those of the UK's ‘Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA)’ and the ‘American Radiology Society (ACR)’). Results: Following the results of EMF measurements and their comparison with the recommendations of learned societies, a zoning system that adapts to needs of different MRI services across the country has been proposed. In effect, three risk areas have been identified within the MRI services. This has led to the development of a good practice guide related to the magnetic protection of MRI workers. Conclusion: The guide established by our study is a standard that allows MRI workers to protect themselves against the risk of electromagnetic fields. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comparison%20with%20international%20references" title="comparison with international references">comparison with international references</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=measurement%20of%20electromagnetic%20fields" title=" measurement of electromagnetic fields"> measurement of electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetic%20protection%20of%20workers" title=" magnetic protection of workers"> magnetic protection of workers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetic%20resonance%20imaging" title=" magnetic resonance imaging"> magnetic resonance imaging</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119063/managing-the-magnetic-protection-of-workers-in-magnetic-resonance-imaging" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119063.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">164</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2689</span> EMI Radiation Prediction and Final Measurement Process Optimization by Neural Network</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hussam%20Elias">Hussam Elias</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ninovic%20Perez"> Ninovic Perez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Holger%20Hirsch"> Holger Hirsch</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The completion of the EMC regulations worldwide is growing steadily as the usage of electronics in our daily lives is increasing more than ever. The neural network was trained using real EMC measurements, which were performed in the Semi Anechoic Chamber (SAC) by CETECOM GmbH in Essen, Germany. There have been analyses on the effects of electromagnetic fields emanating from coupled multi-lines power systems on the health of the workers and people living in proximity of substations. An experimental investigation has been conducted around a circuit of two 220Kv lines running in parallel. The experimental results are validated by a flexible code of calculus developed in the environment Matlab. The implications of the results are discussed and are in very good agreement with the ICNIRP reference levels for occupational and non-occupational exposures. In a case of study, the separation between the two structures “S” is varied to demonstrate its influence on the electric and magnetic charges quantities generated by the circuit of lines proposed. It is found that increasing S decreases the electric and magnetic fields which occur at the center of the structure then reduces the coupling between lines. We concluded that the evaluation of the spacing between the phase conductors is of paramount interest in the preparation of the line’s implantation inside the electrical posts to reduce them radiations in the environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20frequency" title="low frequency">low frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20fields" title=" electromagnetic fields"> electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20coupling" title=" electromagnetic coupling"> electromagnetic coupling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20voltage%20power%20lines" title=" high voltage power lines"> high voltage power lines</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12019/experimental-and-theoretical-analysis-of-the-electromagnetic-environment-in-the-vicinity-of-two-220kv-power-lines" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12019.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">389</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2687</span> Experimental and Theoretical Study of the Electric and Magnetic Fields Behavior in the Vicinity of High-Voltage Power Lines</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tourab%20Wafa">Tourab Wafa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nemamcha%20Mohamed"> Nemamcha Mohamed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Babouri%20Abdessalem"> Babouri Abdessalem</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper consists on an experimental and analytical characterization of the electromagnetic environment in the in the medium surrounding a circuit of two 220 Kv power lines running in parallel. The effect of electromagnetic fields on the efficiency of the capacitive deionization (CDI) process was investigated experimentally. The results showed that treating the feed stream of the CDI process using an electromagnetic field can enhance the electrosorption capacity from 20% up to 70%. The effect of the degree of time of exposure, concentration, and type of ions have been examined. The electromagnetic field enhanced the salt adsorption capacity (SAC) of the Ca²⁺ ions by 70%, while the SAC enhanced 20% to the Na⁺ ions. It is hypnotized that the electrometric field affects the hydration shell around the ions and thus reduces their effective size and enhances the mass transfer. This reduction in ion effective size and increase in mass transfer enhanced the electrosorption capacity and kinetics of the CDI process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capacitive%20deionization" title="capacitive deionization">capacitive deionization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=desalination" title=" desalination"> desalination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20treatment" title=" electromagnetic treatment"> electromagnetic treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20treatment" title=" water treatment"> water treatment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134804/effect-of-electromagnetic-field-on-capacitive-deionization-performance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134804.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">265</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2685</span> Analysis and Simulation of TM Fields in Waveguides with Arbitrary Cross-Section Shapes by Means of Evolutionary Equations of Time-Domain Electromagnetic Theory</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%96mer%20Akta%C5%9F">Ömer Aktaş</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olga%20A.%20Suvorova"> Olga A. The electromagnetic characterization of the urban zone under study was carried out by measurements in 118 sites. Measurements of TETRA,ISM434, LTE800, ISM868, GSM900, GSM1800, 3G UMTS,4G UMTS, Wlan2.4, LTE2.6, DECT, VHF Television and FM radio signals were performed at distances ranging over 10 to 1000m from 87 broadcasting towers concentrated in an urban area of about 3 hectares. The aim of these measurements is the evaluation of the electromagnetic fields power levels generated by communication systems because of their interaction with the human body. We found that in certain regions the general public exposure limits determined by ICNIRP (International Commission of Non Ionizing Radiation Protection) are overpassed from 5% up to 61% of the upper values, indicating an imminent health public hazard, whereas in other regions we found that these limits are not overpassed. This work proposes an electromagnetic pollution classification for urban zones according with ICNIRP standards. We conclude that the urban zone under study presents diverse levels of pollution and that in certain regions an electromagnetic shielding solution is needed in order to safeguard the health of the population that lives there. A practical solution in the form of paint coatings and fiber curtains for the buildings present in this zone is also proposed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20field" title="electromagnetic field">electromagnetic field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=telecommunication%20systems" title=" telecommunication systems"> telecommunication systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electropollution" title=" electropollution"> electropollution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20hazards" title=" health hazards"> health hazards</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46590/electromagnetic-fields-characterization-of-an-urban-area-in-lagos-de-moreno-mexico-and-its-correlation-with-public-health-hazards" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46590.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">396</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2683</span> Compact Optical Sensors for Harsh Environments</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Branislav%20Timotijevic">Branislav Timotijevic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yves%20Petremand"> Yves Petremand</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Markus%20Luetzelschwab"> Markus Luetzelschwab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dara%20Bayat"> Dara Bayat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laurent%20Aebi"> Laurent Aebi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Optical miniaturized sensors with remote readout are required devices for the monitoring in harsh electromagnetic environments. As an example, in turbo and hydro generators, excessively high vibrations of the end-windings can lead to dramatic damages, imposing very high, additional service costs. A significant change of the generator temperature can also be an indicator of the system failure. Continuous monitoring of vibrations, temperature, humidity, and gases is therefore mandatory. The high electromagnetic fields in the generators impose the use of non-conductive devices in order to prevent electromagnetic interferences and to electrically isolate the sensing element to the electronic readout. Metal-free sensors are good candidates for such systems since they are immune to very strong electromagnetic fields and given the fact that they are non-conductive. We have realized miniature optical accelerometer and temperature sensors for a remote sensing of the harsh environments using the common, inexpensive silicon Micro Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) platform. Both devices show highly linear response. The accelerometer has a deviation within 1% from the linear fit when tested in a range 0 &ndash; 40 g. The temperature sensor can provide the measurement accuracy better than 1 &deg;C in a range 20 &ndash; 150 &deg;C. The design of other type of sensors for the environments with high electromagnetic interferences has also been discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20MEMS" title="optical MEMS">optical MEMS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature%20sensor" title=" temperature sensor"> temperature sensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accelerometer" title=" accelerometer"> accelerometer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20sensing" title=" remote sensing"> remote sensing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=harsh%20environment" title=" harsh environment"> harsh environment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65332/compact-optical-sensors-for-harsh-environments" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65332.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">367</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2682</span> Tamper Resistance Evaluation Tests with Noise Resources</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Masaya%20Yoshikawa">Masaya Yoshikawa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Toshiya%20Asai"> Toshiya Asai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryoma%20Matsuhisa"> Ryoma Matsuhisa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yusuke%20Nozaki"> Yusuke Nozaki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kensaku%20Asahi"> Kensaku Asahi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Recently, side-channel attacks, which estimate secret keys using side-channel information such as power consumption and compromising emanations of cryptography circuits embedded in hardware, have become a serious problem. This study set out to investigate the impact of chronic exposure of male rats to 50- Hz, 1 mTesla (ELF-EMF) of over periods of 1, 2, and 4 weeks on concentration of serum FSH, LH, and testosterone hormones. 60 male albino rats were divided into 6 groups and were continuously exposed to 50-Hz, 1 m Tesla (ELF-EMF) generated by magnetic field chamber for periods of 1, 2, and 4 weeks. For each experimental point, sham treated group was used as a control. Assay of serum testosterone LH, and FSHwere performed. Serum testosterone showed no significant changes. FSH showed significant increase than sham exposed group after 1 week of field exposure. LH showed significant increase than sham exposed group only after 4 weeks of field exposure. A future detailed molecular studies must be carried out to figure out and may be able to explain the possible interactions between ELF-EMF and hypothalamic-pituitary gonadal axis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=extremely%20low%20frequency%20electromagnetic%20fields" title="extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields">extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=testosterone" title=" testosterone"> testosterone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=follicular%20stimulating%20hormone" title=" follicular stimulating hormone"> follicular stimulating hormone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LH" title=" LH "> LH </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16414/influence-of-50-hz-1m-tesla-electromagnetic-fields-on-serum-male-sex-hormones-of-male-rats" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16414.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">460</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2680</span> The Effect of Electromagnetic Stirring during Solidification of Nickel Based Alloys</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricardo%20Paiva">Ricardo Paiva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rui%20Soares"> Rui Soares</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Felix%20Harnau"> Felix Harnau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Fragoso"> Bruno Fragoso</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nickel-based alloys are materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to pressure and heat. Some industrial applications for Nickel-based alloys are aerospace and jet engines, oil and gas extraction, pollution control and waste processing, automotive and marine industry. It is generally recognized that grain refinement is an effective methodology to improve the quality of casted parts. Conventional grain refinement techniques involve the addition of inoculation substances, the control of solidification conditions, or thermomechanical treatment with recrystallization. However, such methods often lead to non-uniform grain size distribution and the formation of hard phases, which are detrimental to both wear performance and biocompatibility. Stirring of the melt by electromagnetic fields has been widely used in continuous castings with success for grain refinement, solute redistribution, and surface quality improvement. Despite the advantages, much attention has not been paid yet to the use of this approach on functional castings such as investment casting. Furthermore, the effect of electromagnetic stirring (EMS) fields on Nickel-based alloys is not known. In line with the gaps/needs of the state-of-art, the present research work targets to promote new advances in controlling grain size and morphology of investment cast Nickel based alloys. For such a purpose, a set of experimental tests was conducted. A high-frequency induction furnace with vacuum and controlled atmosphere was used to cast the Inconel 718 alloy in ceramic shells. A coil surrounded the casting chamber in order to induce electromagnetic stirring during solidification. Aiming to assess the effect of the electromagnetic stirring on Ni alloys, the samples were subjected to microstructural analysis and mechanical tests. The results show that electromagnetic stirring can be an effective methodology to modify the grain size and mechanical properties of investment-cast parts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=investment%20casting" title="investment casting">investment casting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grain%20refinement" title=" grain refinement"> grain refinement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20stirring" title=" electromagnetic stirring"> electromagnetic stirring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nickel%20alloys" title=" nickel alloys"> nickel alloys</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128372/the-effect-of-electromagnetic-stirring-during-solidification-of-nickel-based-alloys" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128372.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">133</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2679</span> Fast-Forward Problem in Asymmetric Double-Well Potential</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iwan%20Setiawan">Iwan Setiawan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bobby%20Eka%20Gunara"> Bobby Eka Gunara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katshuhiro%20Nakamura"> Katshuhiro Nakamura</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The theory to accelerate system on quantum dynamics has been constructed to get the desired wave function on shorter time. The continued expansion of mobile phone usage raises important questions as EMF, especially radio frequency (RF), have long been suspected of having biological effects. In the present experiments, we studied the effects of RF-EMF on cell death (apoptosis) and DNA damage of a well- tested biological model, Drosophila melanogaster exposed to 2400 MHz frequency for different time duration i.e. 2 hrs, 4 hrs, 6 hrs,8 hrs, 10 hrs, and 12 hrs each day for five continuous days in ambient temperature and humidity conditions inside an exposure chamber. The flies were grouped into control, sham-exposed, and exposed with 100 flies in each group. In this study, well-known techniques like Comet Assay and TUNEL (Terminal deoxynucleotide transferase dUTP Nick End Labeling) Assay were used to detect DNA damage and for apoptosis studies, respectively. Experiments results showed DNA damage in the brain cells of Drosophila which increases as the duration of exposure increases when observed under the observed when we compared results of control, sham-exposed, and exposed group which indicates that EMF radiation-induced stress in the organism that leads to DNA damage and cell death. The process of apoptosis and mutation follows similar pathway for all eukaryotic cells; therefore, studying apoptosis and genotoxicity in Drosophila makes similar relevance for human beings as well. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20death" title="cell death">cell death</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=apoptosis" title=" apoptosis"> apoptosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Comet%20Assay" title=" Comet Assay"> Comet Assay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20damage" title=" DNA damage"> DNA damage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Drosophila" title=" Drosophila"> Drosophila</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20fields" title=" electromagnetic fields"> electromagnetic fields</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EMF" title=" EMF"> EMF</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radio%20frequency" title=" radio frequency"> radio frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RF" title=" RF"> RF</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TUNEL%20assay" title=" TUNEL assay"> TUNEL assay</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92485/dna-damage-and-apoptosis-induced-in-drosophila-melanogaster-exposed-to-different-duration-of-2400-mhz-radio-frequency-electromagnetic-fields-radiation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92485.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2677</span> The Feasibility and Usability of Antennas Silence Zone for Localization and Path Finding</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Malebary">S. Xu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Antennas are important components that enable transmitting and receiving signals in mid-air (wireless). The radiation pattern of omni-directional (i.e., dipole) antennas, reflects the variation of power radiated by an antenna as a function of direction when transmitting. As the performance of the antenna is the same in transmitting and receiving, it also reflects the sensitivity of the antenna in different directions when receiving. The main observation when dealing with omni-directional antennas, regardless the application, is they equally radiate power in all directions in reference to Equivalent Isotropically Radiated Power (EIRP). Disseminating radio frequency signals in an omni-directional manner form a doughnut-shape-field with a cone in the middle of the elevation plane (when mounted vertically). In this paper, we investigate the existence of this physical phenomena namely silence cone zone (the zone where radiated power is nulled). First, we overview antenna types and properties that have the major impact on the shape of the electromagnetic field. Then we model various off the shelf dipoles in Matlab based on antennas’ features (dimensions, gain, operating frequency, … etc.) and compare the resulting radiation patterns. After that, we validate the existence of the null zone in Omni-directional antennas by conducting experiments and generating waveforms (using USRP1 and USRP2) at various frequencies using different types of antennas and gains in indoor/outdoor. We capture the generated waveforms around antennas' null zone in the reactive, near, and far field with a spectrum analyzer mounted on a drone, using various off the shelf antennas. We analyze the captured signals in RF-Explorer and plot the impact on received power and signal amplitude inside and around the null zone. Finally, it is concluded from evaluation and measurements the existence of null zones in Omni-directional antennas which we plan on extending this work in the near future to investigate the usability of the null zone for various applications such as localization and path finding. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antennas" title="antennas">antennas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=amplitude" title=" amplitude"> amplitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=field%20regions" title=" field regions"> field regions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frequency" title=" frequency"> frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FSPL" title=" FSPL"> FSPL</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=omni-directional" title=" omni-directional"> omni-directional</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radiation%20pattern" title=" radiation pattern"> radiation pattern</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RSSI" title=" RSSI"> RSSI</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silence%20zone%20cone" title=" silence zone cone"> silence zone cone</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91493/the-feasibility-and-usability-of-antennas-silence-zone-for-localization-and-path-finding" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91493.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">303</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2676</span> Influence of Single Source Irradiation on the Homogeneous Alignment of Liquid Crystals Molecules on Glass Substrates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sarah%20Akhtar">Sarah Akhtar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rizwan%20Mahmood"> Rizwan Mahmood</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A detailed study of homogeneous alignment of liquid crystal molecules on a glass substrate will be presented. Thin films of polyimide were coated on several glass substrates. Various methods were employed to prepare coated surfaces to achieve desired alignment; these include traditionally rubbing the surface with a felt cloth then exposing them perpendicular to the easy axis with incandescent light (IL), linearly polarized ultraviolet (LPUVR) and un-polarized ultraviolet (UPUVR) radiation. The quality of the alignment was tested by measuring the tilt angle in the temperature range between 30°C to 55°C. Regression analysis of the data using ‘SigmaPlot’ suggests a gradual increase in tilt angle (1.1°-1.8°) for the rubbed, 0.6° to 3.6° increase for the rubbed plus IL radiated and 1.6° to 4.6° for the rubbed plus UPUVL radiated samples, respectively. However to our surprise, we found tilt angle to be decreasing from 2.4° to 1.6° for the rubbed plus LPUVL radiated samples. We hope that these findings will be helpful in the fabrication of display panels and other electro-optic devices. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=homogeneous" title="homogeneous">homogeneous</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liquid%20crystals" title=" liquid crystals"> liquid crystals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyimide" title=" polyimide"> polyimide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tilt%20angle" title=" tilt angle"> tilt angle</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102033/influence-of-single-source-irradiation-on-the-homogeneous-alignment-of-liquid-crystals-molecules-on-glass-substrates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102033.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">118</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2675</span> Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Characteristics for Stainless Wire Mesh and Number of Plies of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Min%20Sang%20Lee">Min Sang Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hee%20Jae%20Shin"> Hee Jae Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=In%20Pyo%20Cha"> In Pyo Cha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyun%20Kyung%20Yoon"> Hyun Kyung Yoon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seong%20Woo%20Hong"> Seong Woo Hong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Min%20Jae%20Yu"> Min Jae Yu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hong%20Gun%20Kim"> Hong Gun Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lee%20Ku%20Kwac"> Lee Ku Kwac</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, the electromagnetic shielding characteristics of an up-to-date typical carbon filler material, carbon fiber used with a metal mesh were investigated. One of the distinct features of energy transfer in collisionless plasma is wave-particle interaction which is ubiquitous in space plasmas. The three essential populations of the inner magnetosphere are cold plasmaspheric plasmas, ring-currents, and radiation belts high energy particles. The transition region amid such populations initiates wave-particle interactions among distinct plasmas and the wave mode perceived in the magnetosphere is the electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) wave. These waves can interact with numerous particle species resonantly, accompanied by plasma particle heating is still in debate. In this work we paid particular attention to how EMIC waves impact plasma species, specifically how they affect the heating of electrons and ions during storm and substorm in the Magnetosphere. Using Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission and electromagnetic hybrid simulation, this project will investigate the energy transfer mechanism (e.g., Landau interactions, bounce resonance interaction, cyclotron resonance interaction, etc.) between EMIC waves and cold-warm plasma populations. Other features such as the production of EMIC waves and the importance of cold plasma particles in EMIC wave-particle interactions will also be worth exploring. Iron (Fe) plate anodes and stainless steel cathodes were employed as electrodes. The effect of different magnetic field intensities (1.9, 3.9 and 5.2 tesla), three different positions of EMF (below, perpendicular and parallel to the electrocoagulation cell), as well as operating time; had been investigated. The application of electromagnetic field (5.2 tesla) raises percentage of oil removal from 72.4% for traditional electrocoagulation to 90.8% after 20 min. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrocoagulation" title="electrocoagulation">electrocoagulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20field" title=" electromagnetic field"> electromagnetic field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oil-water%20emulsion" title=" Oil-water emulsion"> Oil-water emulsion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=edible%20oil" title=" edible oil"> edible oil</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19283/enhancement-effect-of-electromagnetic-field-on-separation-of-edible-oil-from-oil-water-emulsion" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19283.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">533</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2670</span> Sustainable Building Design for Energy Efficiency and Healthier Electromagnetic Environment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riadh%20Habash">Riadh Habash</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kristina%20Djukic"> Kristina Djukic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gandhi%20Habash"> Gandhi Habash</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Sustainable design is one of the emerging milestones in building construction. This concept is defined as buildings that on a yearly average consume as much energy as they generate using renewable energy sources. Realization of sustainable buildings requires a wide range of technologies, systems and solutions with varying degrees of complexity and sophistication, depending upon the location and surrounding environmental conditions. This paper will address not only the role of the above technologies and solutions but will provide solutions to reduce the electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in the building as much as possible so that the occupiers can recover from electro-hyper-sensitivity, if any. The objective is to maximize energy efficiency, optimize occupant comfort, reduce dependency on the grid and provide safer and healthier EMF environment especially for hypersensitive people. Creative architectural and engineering solutions that capitalize on the design of energy efficient technologies; combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) microgrid (MG); and EMF mitigation will be presented. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20buildings" title="sustainable buildings">sustainable buildings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficiency" title=" energy efficiency"> energy efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20simulation" title=" thermal simulation"> thermal simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20environment" title=" electromagnetic environment"> electromagnetic environment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52235/sustainable-building-design-for-energy-efficiency-and-healthier-electromagnetic-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52235.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">302</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2669</span> Characterization of Complex Electromagnetic Environment Created by Multiple Sources of Electromagnetic Radiation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Clement%20Temaneh-Nyah">Clement Temaneh-Nyah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Josiah%20Makiche"> Josiah Makiche</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Josephine%20Nujoma"> Josephine Nujoma</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper considers the characterisation of a complex electromagnetic environment due to multiple sources of electromagnetic radiation as a five-dimensional surface which can be described by a set of several surface sections including: instant EM field intensity distribution maps at a given frequency and altitude, instantaneous spectrum at a given location in space and the time evolution of the electromagnetic field spectrum at a given point in space. This characterization if done over time can enable the exposure levels of Radio Frequency Radiation at every point in the analysis area to be determined and results interpreted based on comparison of the determined RFR exposure level with the safe guidelines for general public exposure given by recognised body such as the International commission on non-ionising radiation protection (ICNIRP), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the National Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
