style="font-size: 1.17em;"> <h3><span style="font-size: 1.17em;">Development and Events Internship</span></h3> <p><em>The Paris Review</em> is a quarterly literary magazine founded in Paris in 1953. We publish new fiction, poetry, and essays by emerging voices and major names, as well as the Writers at Work interview series, which offers authors a rare opportunity to discuss their life and art at length.</p> <p>We are looking for a part-time intern to assist the director of development and events in preparing our annual fund-raising gala, the Spring Revel, which takes place in early April. This hands-on position is an excellent opportunity to learn about what it takes to put on a large-scale, high-profile event. Additionally, this internship will offer insight into fund-raising, stewardship, cultivation, and event production.</p> <p>Duties will include assisting with in-house mailings, donor correspondence, receiving and tracking RSVPs, updating lists, supporting promotion, generating printed materials, tracking acknowledgment letters, collaborating on decor and gift bags, and general support with coordinating details for the Revel. The ideal candidate is interested in special-events production and fund-raising and has a strong interest in literature and non-profit organizations. He/she should have good organizational skills, the ability to work well under pressure, excellent written and verbal communication skils, and a professional demeanor. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential.</p> <p>Prospective interns must have completed their junior year in college. College applicants are encouraged to negotiate with their college registrar’s office to receive academic credit for the internship.</p> <p>The development and events internship is part-time (approximately twenty hours per week) and is unpaid. It begins immediately and lasts through April. The internship requires a full-time commitment, five days a week. On your application please clearly indicate your desired starting date. Your application must be postmarked at least two months before that date. The one exception: applicants for a summer internship must have their applications postmarked by February 1. <p>Each internship lasts between three and four months, affording interns the opportunity to participate in a full production schedule. Interns participate in every step of the production process, from the solicitation of material to editorial meetings, fact-checking, proofreading, and distributing copies. More regular duties include reading fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, tracking submissions, maintaining office databases, and helping to keep our busy office organized.</p> <p><em>Paris Review</em> internships are a great introduction to the literary world. Past graduates have gone on to find work at a wide range of literary agencies, publishing houses, magazines, and newspapers, among them HarperCollins, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Simon and Schuster, The Gernert Agency, The Wylie Agency, <em>The New Yorker</em>, <em>Vanity Fair</em>, and <em>The Wall Street Journal</em>. Others have gone on to enjoy successful freelance careers as editors and writers.</p> <p>Prospective interns must have completed their junior year in college. College applicants are encouraged to negotiate with their college registrar’s office to receive academic credit for their internships. We do not sponsor visas.
