class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>the king<MH4428> could<MH5074> not<MH5074> sleep<MH8142>, so he gave<MH559> an<MH559> order<MH559> to bring<MH935> the book<MH5612> of records<MH2146>, the chronicles<MH1697, 3117>, and they were read<MH7121> before<MH6440> the king<MH4428>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>And it was found<MH4672> written<MH3789> what<MH834> Mordecai<MH4782> had reported<MH5046> about<MH5921> Bigthana<MH904> and Teresh<MH8657>, two<MH8147> of the king’s<MH4428> eunuchs<MH5631> who were doorkeepers<MH8104, 5592b>, that they had sought<MH1245> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>attack<MH7971, 3027> King<MH4428> Ahasuerus<MH325>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then the king<MH4428> said<MH559>, “What<MH4100> honor<MH3366> or dignity<MH1420> has been bestowed<MH6213a> on Mordecai<MH4782> for this<MH2088>?” And the king’s<MH4428> servants<MH5288> who attended<MH8334> him said<MH559>, “Nothing<MH3808, 1697> has been done<MH6213a> for him.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>So the king<MH4428> said<MH559>, “Who<MH4310> is in the courtyard<MH2691a>?” Now Haman<MH2001b> had <i>just</i> entered<MH935> the outer<MH2435> courtyard<MH2691a> of the king’s<MH4428> palace<MH1004> in order to speak<MH559> to the king<MH4428> about hanging<MH8518> Mordecai<MH4782> on the wooden<MH6086> <i>gallows</i> which<MH834> he had prepared<MH3559> for him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>So the king’s<MH4428> servants<MH5288> said<MH559> to him, “Behold<MH2009>, Haman<MH2001b> is standing<MH5975> in the courtyard<MH2691a>.” And the king<MH4428> said<MH559>, “Have him come<MH935> in<MH935>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Haman<MH2001b> then came<MH935> in<MH935> and the king<MH4428> said<MH559> to him, “What<MH4100> is to be done<MH6213a> for the man<MH376> whom<MH834> the king<MH4428> desires<MH2654a> to honor<MH3366>?” And Haman<MH2001b> said<MH559> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>to himself<MH3820>, “Whom<MH4310> would the king<MH4428> desire<MH2654a> to honor<MH6213a, 3366> more<MH3148> than<MH4480> me?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Therefore Haman<MH2001b> said<MH559> to the king<MH4428>, “For the man<MH376> whom<MH834> the king<MH4428> desires<MH2654a> to honor<MH3366>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>have them bring<MH935> a royal<MH4438> robe<MH3830> which<MH834> the king<MH4428> has worn<MH3847>, and the horse<MH5483b> on which<MH834> the king<MH4428> has ridden<MH7392>, and on whose<MH834> head<MH7218> a royal<MH4438> turban<MH3804> has been placed<MH5414>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>then <i>order them</i> to hand<MH5414, 3027> the robe<MH3830> and the horse<MH5483b> over<MH5921> to one<MH376> of the king’s<MH4428> noble<MH6579> officials<MH8269>, and have them dress<MH3847> the man<MH376> whom<MH834> the king<MH4428> desires<MH2654a> to honor<MH3366>, and lead<MH7392> him on horseback<MH5483b> through the city<MH5892b> square<MH7339>, and proclaim<MH7121> before<MH6440> him, ‘So<MH3602> it shall be done<MH6213a> for the man<MH376> whom<MH834> the king<MH4428> desires<MH2654a> to honor<MH3366>.’” <p class="hdg">Haman Must Honor Mordecai</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then the king<MH4428> said<MH559> to Haman<MH2001b>, “Quickly<MH4116>, take<MH3947> the robe<MH3830> and the horse<MH5483b> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> you have said<MH1696>, and do<MH6213a> so<MH3651> for Mordecai<MH4782> the Jew<MH3064>, who is sitting<MH3427> at the king’s<MH4428> gate<MH8179>; do not fail<MH5307> to<MH5307> do<MH5307> anything<MH1697> of all<MH3605> that you have said<MH1696>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>So Haman<MH2001b> took<MH3947> the robe<MH3830> and the horse<MH5483b>, and dressed<MH3847> Mordecai<MH4782>, and led<MH7392> him <i>on horseback</i> through the city<MH5892b> square<MH7339>, and proclaimed<MH7121> before<MH6440> him, “So<MH3602> it shall be done<MH6213a> for the man<MH376> whom<MH834> the king<MH4428> desires<MH2654a> to honor<MH3366>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then Mordecai<MH4782> returned<MH7725> to the king’s<MH4428> gate<MH8179>, while Haman<MH2001b> hurried<MH1765> home<MH1004>, mourning<MH57>, with <i>his</i> head<MH7218> covered<MH2645>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/esther/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And Haman<MH2001b> informed<MH5608> Zeresh<MH2238> his wife<MH802> and all<MH3605> his friends<MH157> of everything<MH3605> that had happened<MH7136a> to him.
