The first to launch was the Humanities Archive, in July 2005, followed by Law and Social Sciences. The Medicine and Science archives were the last to be loaded to HighWire and were fully launched in April 2006 along with the digital backfile for the complete Oxford Journals Archive.

More detailed loading status information is avialable.

Are titles added to the archives every year and, if so, how will you communicate this to your customers?

Yes, titles will be added each year to the whole archive, and to the relevant subject archive, whenever Oxford Journals acquires new journals that have pre-1996 archival content. We will alert subscribing customers to new content at the time of archive renewal. We will offer outright-purchase customers the opportunity to purchase newly added content as and when it becomes available.

Can you help us to promote the archive to our end users?

Yes, we will be producing a folder of archive brochures for you to display at your library. These will be available from our promotional supportpage from January 2007. Contact us if you would like advice or materials on promoting the archives to your users.

What are the purchasing options for the archives?

Institutional customers can purchase one or more of the archives, or the whole archive (as a single collection), either through annual subscription or by outright purchase. For outright purchase, you can choose either to locally load the archive or, for a small annual fee, OUP will provide remote access. Visit our prices and ordering page for more details.

Can I buy the archives through my subscription agent?

Yes, you can buy or subscribe to the backfile collections through your subscription agent, or direct through us.

Is there a discount if we buy more than one subject archive?

Yes, we offer a discount if you buy or subscribe to more than one archive. Visit our Prices and Ordering page for details.

If we choose to make a one-off purchase of the archives, will there be a maintenance charge for accessing the archives from the OUP website?

Yes, if you choose to access your backfile content through our website, we charge a small annual hosting maintenance fee, see our prices and ordering page for full details. This fee will be payable by the end of February each year to ensure continuing access to your archive. The level of this fee may rise in successive years to take into account our inflationary costs, but you will always have the opportunity, at any time, to choose to transfer the responsibility for hosting your archive from OUP to your own local server.

Can we pay for the one-off purchase option in instalments?

Yes, we offer a 3-part instalment plan if you choose to purchase any or all of the archives, payable over 3 years. We will send out reminders for payment at the end of each year.

Is a pay-per-view option available for the archives?

Yes. The pricing model for archival content is the same as for current content.

Who do we contact for more information on purchasing the archives?

If you are part of a consortium agreement, contact your consortium administrator or your regional sales representative at Oxford Journals. If you are not part of any consortium agreement, please contact the customer services team in your region.

How are the archives accessed?

There are two ways you can access the archives:

1) Outright Purchase

2) Subscription

You can choose one or more subject-based archives individually or opt for the complete set.

For the outright purchase (local loading) option, the content will be supplied on a removable hard disk for you to install and access as required. Note that the concept of perpetual access is not applied to the archive collections.

What is the format of the archives?

The delivery medium will be a removable hard disk which will be provided by Oxford Journals as part of the purchase cost. The data format will be PDF files plus headers in NLM XML Publishing DTD. In order to deliver the content locally, a content management system (not included) will be required.
