Our work offers numerical estimates, particularly in the context of inclusive deep inelastic scattering on a $^{208}_{82}\mathrm{Pb}$ nucleus. While prior studies have predominantly focused on elastic scattering, our investigation extends to the more complex scenarios of inelastic processes within a nuclear medium. Our findings suggest that the cross-section corrections due to QED nuclear medium effects could be substantial, reaching or exceeding the level of experimental precision. This work further compares the effects of single re-scattering events with those of multiple re-scatterings, as particles travel the nuclear volume. We estimate the dominant source of the uncertainties associated with our formalism by varying the scale of the atomic physics where the screening of the electric field of the nucleus happens. This calculation not only contributes to the understanding of QED nuclear medium effects, but also offers a path to a more precise extraction of the process-independent non-perturbative structure of nuclei. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2502.06943v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2502.06943v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 10 February, 2025; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> February 2025. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">16 pages, 8 figures</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-24-25198, FERMILAB-PUB-24-0529-T </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.21404">arXiv:2410.21404</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2410.21404">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2410.21404">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Theory">nucl-th</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Effective field theory for radiative corrections to charged-current processes II: Axial-vector coupling </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Cirigliano%2C+V">Vincenzo Cirigliano</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Dekens%2C+W">Wouter Dekens</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Mereghetti%2C+E">Emanuele Mereghetti</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Tomalak%2C+O">Oleksandr Tomalak</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2410.21404v2-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> We discuss the hadronic structure-dependent radiative corrections to the axial-vector coupling that controls single-nucleon weak charged-current processes -- commonly denoted by $g_A$. We match the Standard Model at the GeV scale onto chiral perturbation theory at next-to-leading order in the one-nucleon sector, in the presence of electromagnetic and weak interactions. As a result, we provide a representation for the corrections to $g_A$ in terms of infrared finite convolutions of simple kernels with the single-nucleon matrix elements of time-ordered products of two and three quark bilinears (vector, axial-vector, and pseudoscalar). We discuss strategies to determine the required non-perturbative input from data, lattice-QCD (+QED), and possibly hadronic models. We evaluate cross-section modifications at leading orders of the number of correlated interactions inside the nucleus, known as the opacity expansion. We derive results for soft and collinear types of the bremsstrahlung at the first three orders in opacity and generalize them to higher orders. We present the leading in opacity energy spectra of soft and collinear photons and radiative energy loss inside the nucleus for experiments with lepton kinematics in the GeV energy range. At leading power of the Glauber soft-collinear effective field theory, the soft radiation is further resummed to all orders both in opacity and in the electromagnetic coupling constant. We find that the soft and collinear medium-induced radiation is vacuumlike, and additional corrections are power suppressed. Despite the negligible modification to the induced photon spectra, the nuclear medium-induced radiation sizably affects the broadening of charged leptons in the direction orthogonal to their propagation. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2402.16851v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2402.16851v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 25 April, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 26 February, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> February 2024. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">19 pages, 8 figures, version published in Physical Review D, figures updated, nth-order opacity corrections are added</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-23-30368 </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys. In a large class of new physics models, interactions involving charged leptons of different flavor can be related, and the large muon flavor component of accelerator neutrino beams can mitigate the lepton mass suppression that occurs in other low-energy measurements. We employ the recent high-statistics measurement of the cross section for $\bar谓_渭p \to 渭^+ n$ scattering on the hydrogen atom by MINERvA to place new confidence intervals on tensor and scalar neutrino-nucleon interactions: $\mathfrak{Re} C_T = -1^{+14}_{-13} \times 10^{-4}$, $|\mathfrak{Im} C_T| \le 1.3 \times 10^{-3}$, and $|\mathfrak{Im} C_S| = 45^{+13}_{-19} \times 10^{-3}$. First studies of QED in-medium lepton dynamics have set a theoretical framework to derive electron-nucleus and (anti)neutrino-nucleus cross-section corrections. We employ this approach to quantitatively compute the effects of Glauber photon-mediated multiple re-scattering within the nuclear medium. We find that the relativistic charged lepton acquires momentum of order $10~\mathrm{MeV}$ transverse to its direction of propagation inside the nucleus. This broadening sizably deflects expected electron tracks and suppresses scattering cross sections. Precise extraction of the nucleon and nuclear structure by electron and muon probes should, thus, take the QED nuclear medium angular redistribution of particles into account. Our results further show that the associated effects in (anti)neutrino-nucleus scattering with measured final-lepton energy are significant only at the kinematical endpoints. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2310.01414v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2310.01414v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 23 November, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 2 October, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> October 2023. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">22 pages, 23 figures, v2: version published in Physical Review D, minor changes in text</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-21-30814 </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys.Rev.D 108 (2023) 9, 093003 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2309.02509">arXiv:2309.02509</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2309.02509">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2309.02509">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Theory">nucl-th</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Nucleon axial-vector form factor and radius from future neutrino experiments </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Petti%2C+R">Roberto Petti</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Hill%2C+R+J">Richard J. The projected accuracy would improve existing measurements by $1$ order of magnitude and be competitive with contemporary lattice-QCD determinations, potentially helping to resolve the corresponding tension with measurements from (anti)neutrino elastic scattering on deuterium. While there is $1$--$2蟽$ agreement in the cross section with MINERvA data for each bin in $Q^2$, we identify three regions with different relevance and opportunity for LQCD predictions. For $Q^2 \lesssim 0.2~\mathrm{GeV}^2$, the phenomenological extractions have large number of data points and LQCD is competitive, while MINERvA data have large errors. For $0.2~\mathrm{GeV}^2 \lesssim Q^2 \lesssim 1~\mathrm{GeV}^2$, LQCD is competitive with the MINERvA determination, and both give values larger than from phenomenological extraction. For $Q^2 &gt; 1~\mathrm{GeV}^2$, the MINERvA data are the most precise. Our analysis indicates that with improving precision of MINERvA-like experiments and LQCD data, the uncertainty in the nucleon axial-vector form factor will be steadily reduced. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2307.14920v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2307.14920v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 23 October, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 27 July, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> July 2023. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">7 pages, 4 figures, v2: version published in Physical Review D, minor changes in text and figures</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-23-28229, CETUP-2023-001 </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys. We encourage the community to continue developing theoretical techniques to treat radiative corrections, and perform experimental tests of these corrections. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2306.14578v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2306.14578v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 26 June, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> June 2023. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Review article to be submitted to the EPJ A Topical Collection on radiative corrections. 63 pages, 27 figures, 3 tables</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.03138">arXiv:2306.03138</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2306.03138">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2306.03138">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Lattice">hep-lat</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Theory">nucl-th</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.108.053003">10.1103/PhysRevD.108.053003 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Effective field theory for radiative corrections to charged-current processes I: Vector coupling </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Cirigliano%2C+V">Vincenzo Cirigliano</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Dekens%2C+W">Wouter Dekens</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Mereghetti%2C+E">Emanuele Mereghetti</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Tomalak%2C+O">Oleksandr Tomalak</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2306.03138v2-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> We study radiative corrections to low-energy charged-current processes involving nucleons, such as neutron beta decay and (anti)neutrino-nucleon scattering within a top-down effective-field-theory approach. We first match the Standard Model to the low-energy effective theory valid below the weak scale and, using renormalization group equations with anomalous dimensions of $\mathcal{O}(伪, 伪伪_s, 伪^2)$, evolve the resulting effective coupling down to the hadronic scale. Here, we first match to heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory and subsequently, below the pion-mass scale, to a pionless effective theory, evolving the effective vector coupling with anomalous dimensions of $\mathcal{O}(伪, 伪^2)$ all the way down to the scale of the electron mass, relevant for beta decays. We thus provide a new evaluation of the ``inner&#34; radiative corrections to the vector coupling constant and to the neutron decay rate, discussing differences with the previous literature. Using our new result for the radiative corrections, we update the extraction of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{ud}$ from the neutron decay. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2306.03138v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2306.03138v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 6 September, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 5 June, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> June 2023. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">40 pages, 3 figures</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-22-21034, INT-PUB-23-015 </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys. As it was recently shown, a few electromagnetic and electroweak low-energy coupling constants in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory are yet to be determined. Performing matching to the four-fermion effective field theory, we relate these low-energy constants to correlation functions of vector and axial-vector currents. In this paper, we calculate radiative corrections to the scattering processes $谓_渭e^- \to 谓_e 渭^-$ and $\bar谓_e e^- \to \bar谓_渭渭^-$. We present the muon energy spectrum for both channels, double-differential distributions in muon energy and muon scattering angle and in photon energy and photon scattering angle, and the photon energy spectrum for the dominant $谓_渭e^- \to 谓_e 渭^-$ process. Our results clarify and extend the region of applicability of previous results in the literature for the double differential distribution in muon energy and photon energy, and in the muon energy spectrum with a radiated photon above a threshold energy. We provide analytic expressions for single, double and triple differential cross sections, and discuss how radiative corrections modify experimentally interesting observable distributions. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2211.15947v3-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2211.15947v3-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 16 May, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 29 November, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> November 2022. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">22 pages, 8 figures, version published in Physics Review D</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-22-29964, FERMILAB-PUB-22-900-T </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys. We study the exchange of photons between charged particles and the nuclear medium for (anti)neutrino-, electron-, and muon-induced reactions inside a large nucleus. While quantum electrodynamics (QED)-medium contributions are formally suppressed by two powers of the electromagnetic coupling constant $伪$ when compared to the leading-order cross sections, low-energy modes and the nuclear size enhance the effect by orders of magnitude. They require a proper infrared regularization, which we implement as a screening of the electromagnetic interactions at atomic length scales or above. We provide approximate analytic expressions for the distortion of (anti)neutrino-nucleus and charged lepton-nucleus cross sections and evaluate the QED-medium effects for realistic values of the screening scale on the example of elastic scattering with nucleons inside the nucleus. We find new permille- to percent-level effects, which were not considered in either (anti)neutrino-nucleus or electron-nucleus scattering. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2206.10637v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2206.10637v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 18 October, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 21 June, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> June 2022. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">18 pages, 10 figures, v2: version published in Physics Letters B, plots for different beam energies added to new Appendix B</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-22-22741 </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys. It is particularly important to understand any difference between such corrections for different flavors of (anti)neutrinos in charged-current interactions. We provide theoretical foundations for calculating these corrections. Using effective field theory, the corrections are shown to factorize into soft, collinear, and hard functions. The soft and collinear functions contain large logarithms in perturbation theory but are computable from QED. The hard function parametrizes hadronic structure but is free from large logarithms. Using a simple model for the hard function, we investigate the numerical impact of QED corrections in charged-current (anti)neutrino-nucleon elastic cross sections and cross-section ratios at GeV energies. We consider the implications of mass singularity theorems that govern the lepton-mass dependence of cross sections for sufficiently inclusive observables and demonstrate the cancellation of leading hadronic and nuclear corrections in phenomenologically relevant observables. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2204.11379v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2204.11379v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 22 November, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 24 April, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> April 2022. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">43 pages, 27 figures, v2: journal version</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> FERMILAB-PUB-21-378-T, LA-UR-21-30632, USTC-ICTS/PCFT-22-13 </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys.Rev.D 106, 9, 093006 (2022) </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2203.11319">arXiv:2203.11319</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2203.11319">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2203.11319">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Bubble Chamber Detectors with Light Nuclear Targets: A Snowmass 2021 White Paper </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Alvarez-Ruso%2C+L">Luis Alvarez-Ruso</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Barrow%2C+J+L">Joshua L. An opportunity exists to reduce the 5-10% broad uncertainty on neutrino cross sections by producing more measurements of neutrino scattering from light nuclear targets at the relevant energies. Bubble chambers with light nuclear targets would be ideal for these measurements but the most recent device designed for use with an accelerator neutrino source is at least fifty years old. A new bubble chamber with light nuclear targets could be designed by observing how the technology has progressed for use in dark matter experiments and producing smaller modular devices that use more efficient cooling systems. A smaller modular device could also be designed for deployment to all functioning neutrino beams, but an investigation of the proper operating characteristics is necessary to adapt newer detectors to the structure of contemporary neutrino beams. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2203.11319v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2203.11319v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 21 March, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> March 2022. </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2112.12395">arXiv:2112.12395</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2112.12395">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2112.12395">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Theory">nucl-th</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.physletb.2022.137108">10.1016/j.physletb.2022.137108 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Radiative (anti)neutrino energy spectra from muon, pion, and kaon decays </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Tomalak%2C+O">Oleksandr Tomalak</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2112.12395v2-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> To describe low-energy (anti)neutrino fluxes in modern coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering experiments as well as high-energy fluxes in precision-frontier projects such as the Enhanced NeUtrino BEams from kaon Tagging (ENUBET) and the Neutrinos from STORed Muons (nuSTORM), we evaluate (anti)neutrino energy spectra from radiative muon (&hellip; <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2112.12395v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'inline'; document.getElementById('2112.12395v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'none';">&#9661; More</a> </span> <span class="abstract-full has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2112.12395v2-abstract-full" style="display: none;"> To describe low-energy (anti)neutrino fluxes in modern coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering experiments as well as high-energy fluxes in precision-frontier projects such as the Enhanced NeUtrino BEams from kaon Tagging (ENUBET) and the Neutrinos from STORed Muons (nuSTORM), we evaluate (anti)neutrino energy spectra from radiative muon ($渭^- \to e^- \bar谓_e 谓_渭(纬),~渭^+ \to e^+ 谓_e \bar谓_渭(纬)$), pion $蟺_{\ell 2}$ ($蟺^- \to 渭^- \bar谓_渭(纬),~蟺^+ \to 渭^+ 谓_渭(纬)$), and kaon $K_{\ell 2}$ ($K^- \to 渭^- \bar谓_渭(纬),~K^+ \to 渭^+ 谓_渭(纬)$) decays. Radiative corrections introduce continuous and divergent spectral components near the endpoint, on top of the monochromatic tree-level meson-decay spectra, which can change the flux-averaged cross section at $6\times 10^{-5}$ level for the scattering on $^{40}\mathrm{Ar}$ nucleus with (anti)neutrinos from the pion decay at rest. Radiative effects modify the expected (anti)neutrino fluxes from the muon decay around the peak region by $3-4$ permille, which is a precision goal for next-generation artificial neutrino sources. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2112.12395v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2112.12395v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 25 April, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 23 December, 2021; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> December 2021. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">14 pages, 2 figures. v2: journal version; minor corrections</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> LA-UR-21-30638, FERMILAB-PUB-21-739-T </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys. These experiments can precisely measure $谓_渭$ cross sections at near detectors, but $谓_e$ cross sections are poorly constrained and require theoretical inputs. In particular, quantum electrodynamics radiative corrections are different for electrons and muons. These corrections are proportional to the small quantum electrodynamics coupling $伪\approx 1/137$; however, the large separation of scales between the neutrino energy and the proton mass ($\sim{\rm GeV}$), and the electron mass and soft-photon detection thresholds ($\sim{\rm MeV}$) introduces large logarithms in the perturbative expansion. The resulting flavor differences exceed the percent-level experimental precision and depend on nonperturbative hadronic structure. We establish a factorization theorem for exclusive charged-current (anti)neutrino scattering cross sections representing them as a product of two factors. The first factor is flavor universal; it depends on hadronic and nuclear structure and can be constrained by high-statistics $谓_渭$ data. The second factor is non-universal and contains logarithmic enhancements, but can be calculated exactly in perturbation theory. For charged-current elastic scattering, we demonstrate the cancellation of uncertainties in the predicted ratio of $谓_e$ and $谓_渭$ cross sections. We point out the potential impact of non-collinear energetic photons and the distortion of the visible lepton spectra and provide precise predictions for inclusive observables. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2105.07939v4-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2105.07939v4-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 22 September, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 17 May, 2021; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> May 2021. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">8 pages, 5 figures, 1 table; v4: version published in Nature Communications, table 1 corrected, details of factorization and supplementary files added</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> FERMILAB-PUB-21-232-T, LA-UR-21-27844, USTC-ICTS/PCFT-21-32 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.05960">arXiv:2011.05960</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2011.05960">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2011.05960">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Theory">nucl-th</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1007/JHEP02(2021)097">10.1007/JHEP02(2021)097 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Flavor-dependent radiative corrections in coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Tomalak%2C+O">Oleksandr Tomalak</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Machado%2C+P">Pedro Machado</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Pandey%2C+V">Vishvas Pandey</a>, <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Plestid%2C+R">Ryan Plestid</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2011.05960v2-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> We calculate coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections on spin-0 nuclei (e.g. $^{40}$Ar and $^{28}$Si) at energies below 100 MeV within the Standard Model and account for all effects of permille size. Electrons and muons running in loops introduce a nontrivial dependence on the momentum transfer due to their relatively light masses. These same loops, and those mediated by tau leptons, break the flavor universality because of mass-dependent electromagnetic radiative corrections. Nuclear physics uncertainties significantly cancel in flavor asymmetries resulting in subpercent relative errors. We find that for low neutrino energies, the cross section can be predicted with a relative precision that is competitive with neutrino-electron scattering. We highlight potentially useful applications of such a precise cross section prediction ranging from precision tests of the Standard Model, to searches for new physics and to the monitoring of nuclear reactors. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2011.05960v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2011.05960v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 15 February, 2021; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 11 November, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> November 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">42 pages, 6 figures, v2: journal version; references added; legends to figures added; definition of the weak charge extended; definition of the weak form factor simplified, typos corrected</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> FERMILAB-PUB-20-524-T </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> JHEP 2102, 097 (2021) </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2008.03527">arXiv:2008.03527</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2008.03527">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2008.03527">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Theory">nucl-th</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.103.013006">10.1103/PhysRevD.103.013006 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Axial and pseudoscalar form factors from charged current quasielastic neutrino-nucleon scattering </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/nucl-ex?searchtype=author&amp;query=Tomalak%2C+O">Oleksandr Tomalak</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2008.03527v2-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> We study the scattering of neutrinos on polarized and unpolarized free nucleons, and also the polarization of recoil particles in these scatters. However, the process is subject to large radiative corrections that differ according to experimental conditions. In this paper, we collect new and existing results for total and differential cross sections accompanied by radiation of one photon, $谓e \to 谓e (纬)$. We perform calculations within the Fermi effective theory and provide analytic expressions for the electron energy spectrum and for the total electromagnetic energy spectrum as well as for double- and triple-differential cross sections with respect to electron energy, electron angle, photon energy, and photon angle. We discuss illustrative applications to accelerator-based neutrino experiments and provide the most precise up-to-date values of neutrino-electron scattering cross sections. We present an analysis of theoretical error, which is dominated by the $\sim 0.2 - 0.4\%$ uncertainty of the hadronic correction. We also discuss how searches for new physics can be affected by radiative corrections. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1907.03379v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1907.03379v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 22 February, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 7 July, 2019; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> July 2019. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">54 pages, 20 figures. v2: journal version; minor corrections, Section 5.4 added, references and supplementary file added, appendix K extended</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> FERMILAB-PUB-19-076-T </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Phys. The leading elastic and first inelastic $蟺N$ intermediate state contributions are accounted for in the region of small momentum transfer $Q^2 &lt; 1~\mathrm{GeV}^2$ based on the available data input. The novel methods of analytical continuation allow us to exploit the MAMI form factor data and the MAID parameterization for the pion electroproduction amplitudes as input in the calculation. The results are compared to the recent CLAS, VEPP-3 and OLYMPUS data as well as to the full two-photon exchange correction in the near-forward approximation, which is based on the Christy and Bosted unpolarized structure functions fit.
