Or what <i>is</i> the benefit of the circumcision? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Much in every way. For chiefly indeed, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>What if indeed some disbelieved? Will their unbelief nullify the faithfulness of God? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Never may it be! But let God be true, and every man a liar, as it has been written:</p><p class="indent1stline">“That You may be justified in Your words,</p><p class="indent2"> and will prevail in Your being judged.”<span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="Psalm 51:4">a</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>But if our unrighteousness shows God’s righteousness, what shall we say? God, inflicting the wrath, <i>is</i> unrighteous? I speak according to man. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Never may it be! Otherwise, how will God judge the world? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>But if in my lie, the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And <i>is it</i> not, as we are slanderously charged, and as some affirm us to say, “Let us do evil things that good things may come?” Their condemnation is just. </p><p class="hdg">There is No One Righteous<br /><span class="cross">(Psalm 14:1-7)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>What then? Are we better? Not at all. For we have already charged both Jews and Greeks all to be under sin. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>As it has been written:</p><p class="indent1stline">“There is none righteous,</p><p class="indent2"> not even one; </p><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>there is none understanding;</p><p class="indent2"> there is none seeking after God. </p><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>All have turned away;</p><p class="indent2"> together they have become worthless;</p><p class="indent1"> there is none who is practicing good,</p><p class="indent2"> there is not so much as one.<span class="fn"><a href="#fnb" title="Psalms 14:1-3; 53:1-3">b</a></span> </p><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Their throat <i>is</i> a grave having been opened;</p><p class="indent2"> they keep practicing deceit<span class="fn"><a href="#fnc" title="Psalm 5:9">c</a></span> with their tongues;</p><p class="indent2"> <i>the</i> venom of vipers <i>is</i> under their lips,<span class="fn"><a href="#fnd" title="Psalm 140:3">d</a></span> </p><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>of whom the mouth is full of cursing and of bitterness;<span class="fn"><a href="#fne" title="Psalm 10:7">e</a></span> </p><p class="indent2"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>their feet <i>are</i> swift to shed blood; </p><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>ruin and misery <i>are</i> in their paths; </p><p class="indent2"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and <i>the</i> way of peace they have not known.<span class="fn"><a href="#fnf" title="Isaiah 59:7,8">f</a></span> </p><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>There is no fear of God before their eyes.”<span class="fn"><a href="#fng" title="Psalm 36:1">g</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those under the Law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be under judgment to God. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Therefore by works of <i>the</i> Law, not any flesh will be justified before Him; for through <i>the</i> Law <i>is</i> knowledge of sin. </p><p class="hdg">Righteousness through Faith</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But now apart from Law, <i>the</i> righteousness of God has been revealed, being borne witness to by the Law and the Prophets. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And <i>the</i> righteousness of God <i>is</i> through faith from Jesus Christ toward all those believing. For there is no distinction, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that <i>is</i> in Christ Jesus, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for a showing forth of His righteousness, because of the forbearance of the sins having taken place beforehand, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>in the forbearance of God, for the showing forth of His righteousness in the present time, for Him to be just, and justifying the <i>one</i> of <i>the</i> faith of Jesus. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Where then <i>is</i> boasting? It has been excluded. Through what principle? That of works? No, but through <i>the</i> principle of faith. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Therefore we reckon a man to be justified by faith apart from works of the Law. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Or <i>is He</i> the God of Jews only, not also of Gentiles? Yes, also of Gentiles, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>since indeed God <i>is</i> the One who will justify <i>the</i> circumcision by faith and <i>the</i> uncircumcision through the <i>same</i> faith. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/3-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Do we, then, nullify <i>the</i> Law through faith? Never may it be!
