Although a move to a 90-day lifespan will no doubt present its short-term frustration for IT leaders, this policy change will ultimately benefit internet trust, operational efficiency, employee and end-user experiences. </span><span data-contrast="none"> </span><span data-ccp-props="{"134233117":false,"134233118":false,"335551550":6,"335551620":6,"335559738":0,"335559739":0}"> </span></p> <p><span data-contrast="none">The decision to shorten certificate durations stems from the imperative to heighten cybersecurity measures, making it more challenging for cybercriminals to compromise or misuse certificates—an increasingly lucrative threat vector in recent years. </span><a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20240419161237/https://www.sectigo.com/resource-library/google-announces-intentions-to-limit-tls-certificates-to-90-days-why-automated-clm-is-crucial#:~:text=Adapting%20to%20shorter%20certificate%20lifespans&text=SCM%20is%20built%20to%20automate,Management%20Environment%20(ACME)%20protocol."><span data-contrast="none">Sectigo,</span></a><span data-contrast="none"> as well as other CAs and cyber security experts are now emphasi</span><span data-contrast="none">sing that the longer the duration between information verification, the less reliable the validation becomes. To support this, we’re working on developing a dedicated automation training & guidance hub, which we plan to launch in early 2024.
