Cerezo arroja nueva luz sobre lo que podríamos llamar una ética de la amistad que se remonta a la antigua filosofía griega. The article takes as its starting point an essay on civil friendship by Pedro Cerezo Galán in order to show the ethical and political relevance of friendship. Cerezo sheds new light on what could be called an ethics of friendship which goes back to ancient Greek philosophy. Drawing on Plato and Aristotle, the article discusses critically the concepts of ethos and of friendship in relation to the interpretations of Cerezo and of Hannah Arendt and opens a new perspective on friendship as a way to self-knowledge. No obstante, lo que este tópico parece olvidar es que toda sociedad se construye en base a unos sujetos cuya individualidad e identidad viene marcada, en primer lugar, por su manifestación corporal y, en segundo lugar, por el uso de un lenguaje que tiene tanto de instrumento de comunicación como de conducto de abstracción. El objetivo fue detectar cómo se fomenta esta competencia en las clases de Historia de Chile, mediante un análisis hermenéutico del currículum oficial, de algunos textos escolares de Historia de Chile y de las transcripciones de las clases de nueve profesores de Historia y Geografía de enseñanza media de colegios subvencionados de la ciudad de Chillán, observadas durante un periodo de dos meses. El supuesto señalaba que los profesores abordan todos los contenidos del programa oficial, descuidando la formación del pensamiento crítico. Los resultados establecen que, si bien se prescribe el fomento del pensamiento crítico en los documentos oficiales, ello se detecta escasamente en los textos escolares y en las prácticas docentes. Se denota ausencia de estrategias que permitan el desarrollo de esta competencia.
