inclusion and to reduce the systemic risk created by the NBFCs’ disproportionately high dependence on bank borrowings, there is a need to allow a few upper-layered NBFCs to raise public deposits that will support their growth aspirations as well as diversify their funding sources. class="field-content views-field views-field-body"> <p>Purse seine fishing has caused conflicts among fisher groups in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere in India, initially addressed through informal district-level institutions. How courts in India have handled disputes related to marine purse seine fishing since 2018 is examined. Stakeholders have submitted petitions in both the High Court of Madras and the Supreme Court. The factors that triggered these court cases and the positions taken by the various parties, including the Government of Tamil Nadu, are looked into. The narratives that underlie these cases contain a mix of environmental, developmental, and distributional arguments. By examining the convergence or divergence between 20 major Indian states from 2000 to 2019, we find that the differences in productivity growth rates, as well as different steady states, are the drivers of states’ increasing per capita GSDP inequality. The population growth rate, the bank credit to GSDP ratio, and the shares of agriculture and industry in GSDP contribute to the differences in steady states across states. Do these characteristics impact the probability of wilful default? The role of related party transactions for wilful defaulters is examined. Logistic regression model results indicate that wilfully defaulting firms are likely to be financially constrained as they have lower cash flows from operations, lower interest coverage, and higher leverage compared to non-defaulter firms from the same industry. However, these firms are more likely to have manipulated their earnings and have a higher proportion of related party expenses.
