So when they saw<MH7200> the land<MH776> of Jazer<MH3270> and the land<MH776> of Gilead<MH1568>, that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>it was indeed<MH2009> a place<MH4725> suitable<MH4725> for livestock<MH4735>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>the sons<MH1121> of Gad<MH1410> and the sons<MH1121> of Reuben<MH7205> came<MH935> and spoke<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548>, and to the leaders<MH5387a> of the congregation<MH5712>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>“Ataroth<MH5852>, Dibon<MH1769>, Jazer<MH3270>, Nimrah<MH5247>, Heshbon<MH2809>, Elealeh<MH500>, Sebam<MH7643>, Nebo<MH5015a>, and Beon<MH1194>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>the land<MH776> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>conquered<MH5221> before<MH6440> the congregation<MH5712> of Israel<MH3478>, is a land<MH776> for livestock<MH4735>, and your servants<MH5650> have livestock<MH4735>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And they said<MH559>, “If<MH518> we have found<MH4672> favor<MH2580> in your sight<MH5869>, let this<MH2088> land<MH776> be given<MH5414> to your servants<MH5650> as <i>our</i> property<MH272>; do not take<MH5674a> us across<MH5674a> the Jordan<MH3383>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to the sons<MH1121> of Gad<MH1410> and the sons<MH1121> of Reuben<MH7205>, “Should your brothers<MH251> go<MH935> to war<MH4421> while you remain<MH3427> here<MH6311>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And why<MH4100> are you discouraging<MH5106, 3820> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> from crossing<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> into the land<MH776> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> has given<MH5414> them? <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> your fathers<MH1> did<MH6213a> when I sent<MH7971> them from Kadesh-barnea<MH6947> to see<MH7200> the land<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>For when they went<MH5927> up<MH5927> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Valley<MH5158a> of Eshcol<MH812> and saw<MH7200> the land<MH776>, they discouraged<MH5106, 3820> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> so that they did not go<MH935> into the land<MH776> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> had given<MH5414> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>So the LORD’S<MH3068> anger<MH639> burned<MH2734> on that day<MH3117>, and He swore<MH7650>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>‘None<MH518> of the men<MH376> who came<MH5927> up<MH5927> from Egypt<MH4714>, from twenty<MH6242> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> and upward<MH4605>, shall see<MH7200> the land<MH127> which<MH834> I swore<MH7650> to Abraham<MH85>, to Isaac<MH3327>, and to Jacob<MH3290>; for they did not follow<MH310> Me fully<MH4390>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>except<MH1115> Caleb<MH3612> the son<MH1121> of Jephunneh<MH3312> the Kenizzite<MH7074> and Joshua<MH3091> the son<MH1121> of Nun<MH5126>; for they have followed<MH310> the LORD<MH3068> fully<MH4390>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So the LORD’S<MH3068> anger<MH639> burned<MH2734> against Israel<MH3478>, and He made them wander<MH5128> in the wilderness<MH4057b> for forty<MH705> years<MH8141>, until<MH5704> the entire<MH3605> generation<MH1755> of those who had done<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH8552> to<MH8552> an<MH8552> end<MH8552>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now behold<MH2009>, you have risen<MH6965> up<MH6965> in<MH8478> your fathers’<MH1> place<MH8478>, born<MH8635> of sinful<MH2400> men<MH376>, to add<MH3254> still<MH5750> more<MH5750> to the burning<MH2740> anger<MH639> of the LORD<MH3068> against<MH413> Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For <i>if</i> you turn<MH7725> away<MH7725> from following<MH310> Him, He will once<MH3254, 5750> more<MH5750> leave<MH5117> them in the wilderness<MH4057b>, and you will destroy<MH7843> all<MH3605> these<MH2088> people<MH5971a>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then they approached<MH5066> him and said<MH559>, “We will build<MH1129> sheepfolds<MH6629, 1448> for our livestock<MH4735> here<MH6311> and cities<MH5892b> for our little<MH2945> ones<MH2945>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>but we ourselves<MH587> will be armed<MH2502b>, hurrying<MH2363a> ahead<MH6440> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, until<MH5704, 834, 518> we have brought<MH935> them to their place<MH4725>, while our little<MH2945> ones<MH2945> live<MH3427> in the fortified<MH4013> cities<MH5892b> because<MH4480, 6440> of the inhabitants<MH3427> of the land<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>We will not return<MH7725> to our homes<MH1004> until<MH5704> every<MH376> one<MH376> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> has gained<MH5157> possession<MH5157> of his inheritance<MH5159>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>But we will not have<MH5157> an<MH5157> inheritance<MH5157> with them on the other<MH5676> side<MH5676> of the Jordan<MH3383> and beyond<MH1973>, because<MH3588> our inheritance<MH5159> has come<MH935> to us on this side<MH5676> of the Jordan<MH3383> toward the east<MH4217>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to them, “If<MH518> you will do<MH6213a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>this<MH2088>, if<MH518> you will arm<MH2502b> yourselves before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> for the war<MH4421>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>and all<MH3605> of you armed<MH2502b> men<MH2502b> cross<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> the Jordan<MH3383> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> until<MH5704> He has driven<MH3423> His enemies<MH340> out<MH3423> from Him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and the land<MH776> is subdued<MH3533> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>, then afterward<MH310> you may return<MH7725> and be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>free<MH5355a> of<MH5355a> obligation<MH5355a> toward<MH4480> the LORD<MH3068> and toward<MH4480> Israel<MH3478>, and this<MH2088> land<MH776> shall be yours as property<MH272> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But if<MH518> you do not do<MH6213a> so<MH3651>, behold<MH2009>, you have sinned<MH2398> against the LORD<MH3068>, and be sure<MH3045> that your sin<MH2403b> will find<MH4672> you out<MH4672>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Build<MH1129> yourselves cities<MH5892b> for your little<MH2945> ones<MH2945>, and sheepfolds<MH1448> for your sheep<MH6792>, and do<MH6213a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>what you have promised<MH3318, 4480, 6310>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then the sons<MH1121> of Gad<MH1410> and the sons<MH1121> of Reuben<MH7205> spoke<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, “Your servants<MH5650> will do<MH6213a> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> my lord<MH113> commands<MH6680>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Our little<MH2945> ones<MH2945>, our wives<MH802>, our livestock<MH4735>, and all<MH3605> our cattle<MH929> shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>remain<MH1961> there<MH8033> in the cities<MH5892b> of Gilead<MH1568>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>while your servants<MH5650>, <i>that is,</i> everyone<MH3605> who is armed<MH2502b> for war<MH6635>, cross<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> in the presence<MH6440> of the LORD<MH3068> to battle<MH4421>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> my lord<MH113> says<MH1696>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> gave<MH6680> the command<MH6680> regarding them to Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548>, to Joshua<MH3091> the son<MH1121> of Nun<MH5126>, and to the heads<MH7218> of the fathers’<MH1> <i>households</i> of the tribes<MH4294> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/32-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to them, “If<MH518> the sons<MH1121> of Gad<MH1410> and the sons<MH1121> of Reuben<MH7205>, everyone<MH3605> who is armed<MH2502b> for battle<MH4421>, cross<MH5674a> with you over<MH5674a> the Jordan<MH3383> in the presence<MH6440> of the LORD<MH3068>, and the land<MH776> is subdued<MH3533> before<MH6440> you, then you shall give<MH5414> them the land<MH776> of Gilead<MH1568> as <i>their</i> property<MH272>;
