This paper reviews works done in recent years in wireless applications and distributed computing, we discovered that applications are becoming dependable, and resource allocation sharing with other applications in distributed computing. Applications embedded in distributed system are suffering from power stability and efficiency. In the reviews, we also prove that discrete event simulation has been left behind untouched and not been adapted into distributed system as a simulation technique in scheduling of each event that took place in the development of distributed computing applications. We shed more lights on some researcher proposed techniques and results in our reviews to prove the unsatisfactory results, and to show that more work still have to be done on issues of energy efficiency in wireless applications, and congestion in distributed computing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20event%20simulation%20%28DES%29" title="discrete event simulation (DES)">discrete event simulation (DES)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20computing" title=" distributed computing"> distributed computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficiency%20%28EE%29" title=" energy efficiency (EE)"> energy efficiency (EE)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20of%20things%20%28IOT%29" title=" internet of things (IOT)"> internet of things (IOT)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20of%20service%20%28QOS%29" title=" quality of service (QOS)"> quality of service (QOS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=user%20equipment%20%28UE%29" title=" user equipment (UE)"> user equipment (UE)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20mesh%20network%20%28WMN%29" title=" wireless mesh network (WMN)"> wireless mesh network (WMN)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20sensor%20network%20%28wsn%29" title=" wireless sensor network (wsn)"> wireless sensor network (wsn)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=worldwide%20interoperability%20for%20microwave%20access%20x%20%28WiMAX%29" title=" worldwide interoperability for microwave access x (WiMAX)"> worldwide interoperability for microwave access x (WiMAX)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98991/advanced-simulation-and-enhancement-for-distributed-and-energy-efficient-scheduling-for-ieee80211s-wireless-enhanced-distributed-channel-access-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98991.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">192</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8202</span> The Primitive Code-Level Design Patterns for Distributed Programming</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bing%20Li">Bing Li</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The primitive code-level design patterns (PDP) are the rudimentary programming elements to develop any distributed systems in the generic distributed programming environment, GreatFree. The PDP works with the primitive distributed application programming interfaces (PDA), the distributed modeling, and the distributed concurrency for scaling-up. They not only hide developers from underlying technical details but also support sufficient adaptability to a variety of distributed computing environments. Programming with them, the simplest distributed system, the lightweight messaging two-node client/server (TNCS) system, is constructed rapidly with straightforward and repeatable behaviors, copy-paste-replace (CPR). As any distributed systems are made up of the simplest ones, those PDAs, as well as the PDP, are generic for distributed programming. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=primitive%20APIs" title="primitive APIs">primitive APIs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=primitive%20code-level%20design%20patterns" title=" primitive code-level design patterns"> primitive code-level design patterns</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=generic%20distributed%20programming" title=" generic distributed programming"> generic distributed programming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20systems" title=" distributed systems"> distributed systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=highly%20patterned%20development%20environment" title=" highly patterned development environment"> highly patterned development environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=messaging" title=" messaging"> messaging</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135687/the-primitive-code-level-design-patterns-for-distributed-programming" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135687.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">191</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8201</span> A Survey on Concurrency Control Methods in Distributed Database</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyed%20Mohsen%20Jameii">Seyed Mohsen Jameii</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the last years, remarkable improvements have been made in the ability of distributed database systems performance. A distributed database is composed of some sites which are connected to each other through network connections. In this system, if good harmonization is not made between different transactions, it may result in database incoherence. Nowadays, because of the complexity of many sites and their connection methods, it is difficult to extend different models in distributed database serially. The principle goal of concurrency control in distributed database is to ensure not interfering in accessibility of common database by different sites. Different concurrency control algorithms have been suggested to use in distributed database systems. In this paper, some available methods have been introduced and compared for concurrency control in distributed database. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20database" title="distributed database">distributed database</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=two%20phase%20locking%20protocol" title=" two phase locking protocol"> two phase locking protocol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transaction" title=" transaction"> transaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=concurrency" title=" concurrency"> concurrency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69917/a-survey-on-concurrency-control-methods-in-distributed-database" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69917.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">352</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8200</span> A New Distributed Computing Environment Based On Mobile Agents for Massively Parallel Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fat%C3%A9ma%20Zahra%20Benchara">Fat茅ma Zahra Benchara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Youssfi"> Mohamed Youssfi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omar%20Bouattane"> Omar Bouattane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Ouajji"> Hassan Ouajji</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Ouadi%20Bensalah"> Mohamed Ouadi Bensalah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we propose a new distributed environment for High Performance Computing (HPC) based on mobile agents. It allows us to perform parallel programs execution as distributed one over a flexible grid constituted by a cooperative mobile agent team works. The distributed program to be performed is encapsulated on team leader agent which deploys its team workers as Agent Virtual Processing Unit (AVPU). Each AVPU is asked to perform its assigned tasks and provides the computational results which make the data and team works tasks management difficult for the team leader agent and that influence the performance computing. In this work we focused on the implementation of the Mobile Provider Agent (MPA) in order to manage the distribution of data and instructions and to ensure a load balancing model. A preliminary scale, to measure distributed capacity and evaluate positioning of firms, is developed in this research. In the first part of the paper, a literature review has been performed which highlights the explorative nature of the studies conducted to present definitions and classifications due to novelty of this topic. From literature, five dimensions of distributed manufacturing development stages have been identified: localization, manufacturing technologies, customization and personalization, digitalization and democratization of design. Based on these determinants a conceptual scale is proposed to measure the status of distributed manufacturing of a generic firm. A multiple case study is then conducted in two steps to test the conceptual scale and to identify the corresponding level of distributed potential in each case study firm. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20manufacturing" title="distributed manufacturing">distributed manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20capacity" title=" distributed capacity"> distributed capacity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=localized%20production" title=" localized production"> localized production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ordinal%20scale" title=" ordinal scale"> ordinal scale</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89405/a-preliminary-conceptual-scale-to-discretize-the-distributed-manufacturing-continuum" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89405.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">163</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8198</span> Implementation of Distributed Randomized Algorithms for Resilient Peer-to-Peer Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Richard%20Tanaka">Richard Tanaka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ying%20Zhu"> Ying Zhu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper studies a few randomized algorithms in application-layer peer-to-peer networks. The significant gain in scalability and resilience that peer-to-peer networks provide has made them widely used and adopted in many real-world distributed systems and applications. The unique properties of peer-to-peer networks make them particularly suitable for randomized algorithms such as random walks and gossip algorithms. Instead of simulations of peer-to-peer networks, we leverage the Docker virtual container technology to develop implementations of the peer-to-peer networks and these distributed randomized algorithms running on top of them. We can thus analyze their behaviour and performance in realistic settings. We further consider the problem of identifying high-risk bottleneck links in the network with the objective of improving the resilience and reliability of peer-to-peer networks. We propose a randomized algorithm to solve this problem and evaluate its performance by simulations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20randomized%20algorithms" title="distributed randomized algorithms">distributed randomized algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peer-to-peer%20networks" title=" peer-to-peer networks"> peer-to-peer networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtual%20container%20technology" title=" virtual container technology"> virtual container technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resilient%20networks" title=" resilient networks"> resilient networks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133527/implementation-of-distributed-randomized-algorithms-for-resilient-peer-to-peer-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133527.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">215</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8197</span> ROOP: Translating Sequential Code Fragments to Distributed Code Fragments Using Deep Reinforcement Learning</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arun%20Sanjel">Arun Sanjel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Greg%20Speegle"> Greg Speegle</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Every second, massive amounts of data are generated, and Data Intensive Scalable Computing (DISC) frameworks have evolved into effective tools for analyzing such massive amounts of data. Since the underlying architecture of these distributed computing platforms is often new to users, building a DISC application can often be time-consuming and prone to errors. The automated conversion of a sequential program to a DISC program will consequently significantly improve productivity. However, synthesizing a user鈥檚 intended program from an input specification is complex, with several important applications, such as distributed program synthesizing and code refactoring. Existing works such as Tyro and Casper rely entirely on deductive synthesis techniques or similar program synthesis approaches. Our approach is to develop a data-driven synthesis technique to identify sequential components and translate them to equivalent distributed operations. We emphasize using reinforcement learning and unit testing as feedback mechanisms to achieve our objectives. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=program%20synthesis" title="program synthesis">program synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20computing" title=" distributed computing"> distributed computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reinforcement%20learning" title=" reinforcement learning"> reinforcement learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unit%20testing" title=" unit testing"> unit testing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DISC" title=" DISC"> DISC</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158356/roop-translating-sequential-code-fragments-to-distributed-code-fragments-using-deep-reinforcement-learning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158356.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">106</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8196</span> Scalable Cloud-Based LEO Satellite Constellation Simulator</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karim%20Sobh">Karim Sobh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20El-Ayat"> Khaled El-Ayat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fady%20Morcos"> Fady Morcos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amr%20El-Kadi"> Amr El-Kadi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Distributed applications deployed on LEO satellites and ground stations require substantial communication between different members in a constellation to overcome the earth coverage barriers imposed by GEOs. Applications running on LEO constellations suffer the earth line-of-sight blockage effect. They need adequate lab testing before launching to space. We propose a scalable cloud-based net-work simulation framework to simulate problems created by the earth line-of-sight blockage. The framework utilized cloud IaaS virtual machines to simulate LEO satellites and ground stations distributed software. A factorial ANOVA statistical analysis is conducted to measure simulator overhead on overall communication performance. The results showed a very low simulator communication overhead. Consequently, the simulation framework is proposed as a candidate for testing LEO constellations with distributed software in the lab before space launch. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LEO" title="LEO">LEO</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cloud%20computing" title=" cloud computing"> cloud computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constellation" title=" constellation"> constellation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=satellite" title=" satellite"> satellite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=network%20simulation" title=" network simulation"> network simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=netfilter" title=" netfilter"> netfilter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23478/scalable-cloud-based-leo-satellite-constellation-simulator" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23478.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">386</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8195</span> Optimizing Communications Overhead in Heterogeneous Distributed Data Streams</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rashi%20Bhalla">Rashi Bhalla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Russel%20Pears"> Russel Pears</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Asif%20Naeem"> M. Our experimental evaluation reveals that a significant reduction in communication can be achieved across a diverse range of dataset types. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=big%20data" title="big data">big data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bayesian%20inference" title=" bayesian inference"> bayesian inference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20data%20stream%20mining" title=" distributed data stream mining"> distributed data stream mining</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heterogeneous-distributed%20data" title=" heterogeneous-distributed data"> heterogeneous-distributed data</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124886/optimizing-communications-overhead-in-heterogeneous-distributed-data-streams" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124886.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">161</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8194</span> Method of Successive Approximations for Modeling of Distributed Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Torokhti">A. Network traffic from individual applications can be concurrently serviced by multiple RPC service providers, with costs, rewards, and rate limiting governed by a native cryptocurrency on a distributed ledger. Building upon established research in token bucket algorithms and distributed rate-limiting penalty models, our approach harnesses a feedback loop control mechanism to adjust the difficulty of mining relay rewards, dynamically scaling with network usage growth. By leveraging crypto-economic incentives, we reduce coordination overhead costs and introduce a mechanism for providing RPC services that are both geopolitically and geographically distributed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20procedure%20call" title="remote procedure call">remote procedure call</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crypto-economic" title=" crypto-economic"> crypto-economic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=commit-reveal" title=" commit-reveal"> commit-reveal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decentralization" title=" decentralization"> decentralization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scalability" title=" scalability"> scalability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blockchain" title=" blockchain"> blockchain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rate%20limiting" title=" rate limiting"> rate limiting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=token%20bucket" title=" token bucket"> token bucket</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177065/relay-mining-verifiable-multi-tenant-distributed-rate-limiting" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177065.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">54</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8192</span> Optimal Sizing and Placement of Distributed Generators for Profit Maximization Using Firefly Algorithm</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Engy%20Adel%20Mohamed">Engy Adel Mohamed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasser%20Gamal-Eldin%20Hegazy"> Yasser Gamal-Eldin Hegazy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a firefly based algorithm for optimal sizing and allocation of distributed generators for profit maximization. The paper addresses voltage control at buses in IEEE 14 Bus system by regulating reactive power. An analysis is carried out by selecting the most optimum location in placing the Distributed Generators through load flow analysis and seeing where the voltage profile rises. MATLAB programming is used for simulation of voltage profile in the respective buses after introduction of DG鈥檚. A tolerance limit of +/-5% of the base value has to be maintained. To maintain the tolerance limit, 3 methods are used. Sensitivity analysis of 3 methods for voltage control is carried out to determine the priority among the methods. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20generators" title="distributed generators">distributed generators</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20system" title=" distributed system"> distributed system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reactive%20power" title=" reactive power"> reactive power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=voltage%20control" title=" voltage control"> voltage control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensitivity%20analysis" title=" sensitivity analysis"> sensitivity analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30906/sensitivity-analysis-for-14-bus-systems-in-a-distribution-network-with-distributed-generators" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30906.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">702</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8190</span> The AI Arena: A Framework for Distributed Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Edward%20W.%20Staley">Edward W. An emerging landscape of development environments is making powerful RL techniques more accessible for a growing community of researchers. However, most existing frameworks do not directly address the problem of learning in complex operating environments, such as dense urban settings or defense-related scenarios, that incorporate distributed, heterogeneous teams of agents. To help enable AI research for this important class of applications, we introduce the AI Arena: a scalable framework with flexible abstractions for distributed multi-agent reinforcement learning. The AI Arena extends the OpenAI Gym interface to allow greater flexibility in learning control policies across multiple agents with heterogeneous learning strategies and localized views of the environment. To illustrate the utility of our framework, we present experimental results that demonstrate performance gains due to a distributed multi-agent learning approach over commonly-used RL techniques in several different learning environments. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reinforcement%20learning" title="reinforcement learning">reinforcement learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-agent" title=" multi-agent"> multi-agent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title=" deep learning"> deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20intelligence" title=" artificial intelligence"> artificial intelligence</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135925/the-ai-arena-a-framework-for-distributed-multi-agent-reinforcement-learning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135925.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8189</span> Distributed Leadership: An Alternative at Higher Education Institutions in Turkey </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sakine%20Sincer">Sakine Sincer</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In today鈥檚 world, which takes further steps towards globalization each and every day, societies and cultures are re-shaped while the demands of the changing world are described once more. In this atmosphere, where the speed of change sometimes reaches a terrifying point, it is possible to state that effective leaders are needed more than ever in order to meet the above-stated needs and demands. The question of what effective leadership is keeping its importance on the agenda. Most of the answers to this question has mostly focused on the approach of distributed leadership recently. This study aims at analyzing the applicability of distributed leadership, which is accepted to be an example of effective leadership that can meet the needs of global world, which is changing more and more rapidly nowadays, at higher education institutions in Turkey. Within the framework of this study, first of all, the historical development of distributed leadership is addressed, and then a theoretical framework is drawn for this approach by means of underlying what distributed leadership is and is not. After that, different points of view about the approach are laid out within the borders of opinions expressed by Gronn and Spillane, who are accepted to be the most famous advocators of distributed leadership. Then, exemplar practices of distributed leadership are included in the study before drawing attention to the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. Lastly, the applicability of distributed leadership at higher education institutions in Turkey is analyzed. This study is carried out with the method of literature review by resorting to first- and second-hand sources on distributed leadership. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=globalization" title="globalization">globalization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=school%20leadership" title=" school leadership"> school leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20leadership" title=" distributed leadership"> distributed leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20education" title=" higher education"> higher education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=management" title=" management"> management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32511/distributed-leadership-an-alternative-at-higher-education-institutions-in-turkey" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32511.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">404</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8188</span> Investigation of Chord Protocol in Peer to Peer Wireless Mesh Network with Mobility</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=P.%20Prasanna%20Murali%20Krishna">P. Structured P2P approaches are widely used in adhoc networks due to its distributed and scalability features. Efficient mechanisms are required to handle the huge amount of data distributed to all peers. The intrinsic characteristics of P2P system makes for easier content distribution when compared to client-server architecture. All the nodes in a P2P network act as both client and server, thus, distributing data takes lesser time when compared to the client-server method. CHORD protocol is a resource routing based where nodes and data items are structured into a 1- dimensional ring. The structured lookup algorithm of Chord is advantageous for distributed P2P networking applications. Though, structured approach improves lookup performance in a high bandwidth wired network it could contribute to unnecessary overhead in overlay networks leading to degradation of network performance. In this paper, the performance of existing CHORD protocol on Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) when nodes are static and dynamic is investigated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20mesh%20network%20%28WMN%29" title="wireless mesh network (WMN)">wireless mesh network (WMN)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structured%20P2P%0D%0Anetworks" title=" structured P2P networks"> structured P2P networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peer%20to%20peer%20resource%20sharing" title=" peer to peer resource sharing"> peer to peer resource sharing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CHORD%20Protocol" title=" CHORD Protocol"> CHORD Protocol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DHT" title=" DHT"> DHT</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34950/investigation-of-chord-protocol-in-peer-to-peer-wireless-mesh-network-with-mobility" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34950.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">480</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8187</span> Innovative Power Engineering in a Selected Rural Commune</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pawel%20Sowa">Pawel Sowa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joachim%20Bargiel"> Joachim Bargiel</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents modern solutions of distributed generation in rural communities aiming at the improvement of energy and environmental security, as well as power supply reliability to important customers (e.g. health care, sensitive consumer required continuity). With advances in resource virtualization technology such as Virtual Machines (VM) and software containers, developers no longer require high-end servers to test and develop distributed software. Even in commercial production, virtualization has streamlined the process of rapid deployment and service management. This paper introduces a distributed systems testbed that utilizes virtualization to enable distributed systems development on commodity computers. The testbed can be used to develop new services, implement theoretical distributed systems concepts for understanding, and experiment with virtual network topologies. We show its versatility through two case studies that utilize the testbed for implementing a theoretical algorithm and developing our own methodology to find high-risk edges. Location management is one of the main challenges to be considered for an efficient service provision to the applications of a MANET. In this paper, we propose a location management protocol, for locating the nodes of a MANET and to maintain uninterrupted high-quality service for distributed applications by intelligently anticipating the change of location of its nodes. The protocol predicts the node movement and application resource scarcity, does the replacement with the chosen nodes nearby which have less mobility and rich in resources, with the help of both static and mobile agents, and maintains the application continuity by providing required network resources. The protocol has been simulated using Java Agent Development Environment (JADE) Framework for agent generation, migration and communication. It consumes much less time (response time), gives better location accuracy, utilize less network resources, and reduce location management overhead. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20agent" title="mobile agent">mobile agent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=location%20management" title=" location management"> location management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20applications" title=" distributed applications"> distributed applications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20adhoc%20network" title=" mobile adhoc network"> mobile adhoc network</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49320/agent-based-location-management-protocol-for-mobile-adhoc-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49320.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">394</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8183</span> Coordinated Voltage Control in Radial Distribution System with Distributed Generators Using Sensitivity Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anubhav%20Shrivastava%20Shivarudraswamy">Anubhav Shrivastava Shivarudraswamy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bhat%20Lakshya"> Bhat Lakshya </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Distributed generation has indeed become a major area of interest in recent years. For carrying out the analysis, the suitable location for placing distributed generators (DG) is identified through load flow analysis and seeing where the voltage profile is dipping. MATLAB programming is used to regulate the voltage at all buses within +/- 5% of the base value even after the introduction of DGs. Three methods for regulation of voltage are discussed. A sensitivity based analysis is then carried out to determine the priority among the various methods listed in the paper. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20generators" title="distributed generators">distributed generators</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20system" title=" distributed system"> distributed system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reactive%20power" title=" reactive power"> reactive power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=voltage%20control" title=" voltage control"> voltage control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensitivity%20analysis" title=" sensitivity analysis"> sensitivity analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28365/coordinated-voltage-control-in-radial-distribution-system-with-distributed-generators-using-sensitivity-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28365.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">658</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8182</span> Performance Evaluation of Distributed Deep Learning Frameworks in Cloud Environment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shuen-Tai%20Wang">Shuen-Tai Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fang-An%20Kuo"> Fang-An Kuo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chau-Yi%20Chou"> Chau-Yi Chou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Bin%20Fang"> Yu-Bin Fang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> 2016 has become the year of the Artificial Intelligence explosion. AI technologies are getting more and more matured that most world well-known tech giants are making large investment to increase the capabilities in AI. Machine learning is the science of getting computers to act without being explicitly programmed, and deep learning is a subset of machine learning that uses deep neural network to train a machine to learn&nbsp; features directly from data. Deep learning realizes many machine learning applications which expand the field of AI. At the present time, deep learning frameworks have been widely deployed on servers for deep learning applications in both academia and industry. In training deep neural networks, there are many standard processes or algorithms, but the performance of different frameworks might be different. In this paper we evaluate the running performance of two state-of-the-art distributed deep learning frameworks that are running training calculation in parallel over multi GPU and multi nodes in our cloud environment. We evaluate the training performance of the frameworks with ResNet-50 convolutional neural network, and we analyze what factors that result in the performance among both distributed frameworks as well. Through the experimental analysis, we identify the overheads which could be further optimized. The main contribution is that the evaluation results provide further optimization directions in both performance tuning and algorithmic design. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20intelligence" title="artificial intelligence">artificial intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title=" deep learning"> deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convolutional%20neural%20networks" title=" convolutional neural networks"> convolutional neural networks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110135/performance-evaluation-of-distributed-deep-learning-frameworks-in-cloud-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110135.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">211</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8181</span> Artificial Intelligence and Distributed System Computing: Application and Practice in Real Life</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lai%20Junzhe">Lai Junzhe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wang%20Lihao"> Wang Lihao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Burra%20Venkata%20Durga%20Kumar"> Burra Venkata Durga Kumar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In recent years, due to today's global technological advances, big data and artificial intelligence technologies have been widely used in various industries and fields, playing an important role in reducing costs and increasing efficiency. Most organizations and business owners need to extract data from multiple sources and apply analytical methods for the purposes of developing their business. Therefore, the recently decentralized data management environment is relying on a distributed computing paradigm. While data are stored in highly distributed systems, the implementation of distributed data-mining techniques is a challenge. The aim of this technique is to gather knowledge from every domain and all the datasets stemming from distributed resources. As agent technologies offer significant contributions for managing the complexity of distributed systems, we consider this for next-generation data-mining processes. To demonstrate agent-based business intelligence operations, we use agent-oriented modeling techniques to develop a new artifact for mining massive datasets. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agent-oriented%20modeling%20%28AOM%29" title="agent-oriented modeling (AOM)">agent-oriented modeling (AOM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20intelligence%20model%20%28BIM%29" title=" business intelligence model (BIM)"> business intelligence model (BIM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20data%20mining%20%28DDM%29" title=" distributed data mining (DDM)"> distributed data mining (DDM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-agent%20system%20%28MAS%29" title=" multi-agent system (MAS)"> multi-agent system (MAS)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44164/business-intelligence-mining-of-large-decentralized-multimedia-datasets-with-a-distributed-multi-agent-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44164.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">431</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8179</span> Big Data Analysis with Rhipe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Byung%20Ho%20Jung">Byung Ho Jung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ji%20Eun%20Shin"> Ji Eun Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong%20Hoon%20Lim"> Dong Hoon Lim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Rhipe that integrates R and Hadoop environment made it possible to process and analyze massive amounts of data using a distributed processing environment. Parallel applications running on clusters require both high-performance communications between nodes and efficient access to the storage system. Many studies on network technologies led to the design of dedicated architectures for clusters with very fast communications between computing nodes. Efficient distributed storage in clusters has been essentially developed by adding parallelization mechanisms so that the server(s) may sustain an increased workload. In this work, we propose to improve the performance of distributed storage systems in clusters by efficiently using the underlying high-performance network to access distant storage systems. The main question we are addressing is: do high-speed networks of clusters fit the requirements of a transparent, efficient and high-performance access to remote storage? We show that storage requirements are very different from those of parallel computation. High-speed networks of clusters were designed to optimize communications between different nodes of a parallel application. We study their utilization in a very different context, storage in clusters, where client-server models are generally used to access remote storage (for instance NFS, PVFS or LUSTRE). Our experimental study based on the usage of the GM programming interface of MYRINET high-speed networks for distributed storage raised several interesting problems. Firstly, the specific memory utilization in the storage access system layers does not easily fit the traditional memory model of high-speed networks. Secondly, client-server models that are used for distributed storage have specific requirements on message control and event processing, which are not handled by existing interfaces. We propose different solutions to solve communication control problems at the filesystem level. We show that a modification of the network programming interface is required. Data transfer issues need an adaptation of the operating system. We detail several propositions for network programming interfaces which make their utilization easier in the context of distributed storage. The integration of a flexible processing of data transfer in the new programming interface MYRINET/MX is finally presented. Performance evaluations show that its usage in the context of both storage and other types of applications is easy and efficient. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20storage" title="distributed storage">distributed storage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20file%20access" title=" remote file access"> remote file access</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cluster" title=" cluster"> cluster</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high-speed%20network" title=" high-speed network"> high-speed network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MYRINET" title=" MYRINET"> MYRINET</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zero-copy" title=" zero-copy"> zero-copy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=memory%20registration" title=" memory registration"> memory registration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=communication%20control" title=" communication control"> communication control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=event%20notification" title=" event notification"> event notification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=application%20programming%20interface" title=" application programming interface"> application programming interface</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45739/the-effective-use-of-the-network-in-the-distributed-storage" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45739.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">219</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8177</span> Performance Evaluation of Distributed and Co-Located MIMO LTE Physical Layer Using Wireless Open-Access Research Platform</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ishak%20Suleiman">Ishak Suleiman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Kamsani%20Samingan"> Ahmad Kamsani Samingan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yeoh%20Chun%20Yeow"> Yeoh Chun Yeow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Aziz%20Bin%20Abdul%20Rahman"> Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we evaluate the benefits of distributed 4x4 MIMO LTE downlink systems compared to that of the co-located 4x4 MIMO LTE downlink system. It is necessary to disconnect all distributed generators immediately after islanding occurrence. Therefore a DG system should have the capability to detect islanding phenomena.
