I have consecrated<MH6942> this<MH2088> house<MH1004> which<MH834> you have built<MH1129>, by putting<MH7760> My name<MH8034> there<MH8033> forever<MH5704, 5769>, and My eyes<MH5869> and My heart<MH3820> will be there<MH8033> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>always<MH3605, 3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>As for you, if<MH518> you walk<MH1980> before<MH6440> Me as your father<MH1> David<MH1732> walked<MH1980>, in integrity<MH8537> of heart<MH3824> and honesty<MH3476>, acting<MH6213a> in accordance with everything<MH3605> that I have commanded<MH6680> you, <i>and if</i> you keep<MH8104> My statutes<MH2706> and My ordinances<MH4941>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>then I will establish<MH6965> the throne<MH3678> of your kingdom<MH4467> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478> forever<MH5769>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>promised<MH1696> to your father<MH1> David<MH1732>, saying<MH559>, &#8216;<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>You shall not be deprived<MH3772> of a man<MH376> on the throne<MH3678> of Israel<MH3478>.&#8217; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>&#8220;But if<MH518> you or your sons<MH1121> indeed<MH7725> turn<MH7725> away<MH7725> from following<MH310> Me, and do not keep<MH8104> My commandments<MH4687> and My statutes<MH2708> which<MH834> I have placed<MH5414> before<MH6440> you, but you go<MH1980> and serve<MH5647> other<MH312> gods<MH430> and worship<MH2331c> them, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>then I will cut<MH3772> Israel<MH3478> off<MH3772> from the land<MH127> which<MH834> I have given<MH5414> them, and the house<MH1004> which<MH834> I have consecrated<MH6942> for My name<MH8034>, I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>expel<MH7971> from My sight<MH6440>. So Israel<MH3478> will become<MH1961> a saying<MH4912> and an object<MH8148> of<MH8148> derision<MH8148> among all<MH3605> peoples<MH5971a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And this<MH2088> house<MH1004> will become<MH1961> a heap<MH5856> of<MH5856> ruins<MH5856>; everyone<MH3605> who passes<MH5674a> by it will be<MH8074> appalled<MH8074> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>hiss<MH8319> and say<MH559>, &#8216;Why<MH5921, 4100> has the LORD<MH3068> done<MH6213a> such<MH3602> a<MH3602> thing<MH3602> to this<MH2088> land<MH776> and this<MH2088> house<MH1004>?&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And they will say<MH559>, &#8216;Because<MH5921, 834> they abandoned<MH5800a> the LORD<MH3068> their God<MH430>, who<MH834> brought<MH3318> their fathers<MH1> out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, and they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>adopted<MH2388> other<MH312> gods<MH430> and worshiped<MH2331c> and served<MH5647> them, for that<MH3651> reason<MH3651> the LORD<MH3068> has brought<MH935> all<MH3605> this<MH2088> adversity<MH7463a> on them.&#8217;&#8221; <p class="hdg">Cities Given to Hiram</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> at the end<MH7097a> of twenty<MH6242> years<MH8141> in which<MH834> Solomon<MH8010> had built<MH1129> the two<MH8147> houses<MH1004>, the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> and the king&#8217;s<MH4428> house<MH1004> <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>(Hiram<MH2438> king<MH4428> of Tyre<MH6865> had supplied<MH5375> Solomon<MH8010> with cedar<MH730> and juniper<MH1265> timber<MH6086> and gold<MH2091>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>satisfying all<MH3605> his desire<MH2656>), that King<MH4428> Solomon<MH8010> then<MH227> gave<MH5414> Hiram<MH2438> twenty<MH6242> cities<MH5892b> in the land<MH776> of Galilee<MH1551>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>So Hiram<MH2438> left<MH3318> Tyre<MH6865> to see<MH7200> the cities<MH5892b> which<MH834> Solomon<MH8010> had given<MH5414> him, and they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>did not please<MH3474, 5869> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And he said<MH559>, &#8220;What<MH4100> are these<MH428> cities<MH5892b> which<MH834> you have given<MH5414> me, my brother<MH251>?&#8221; So <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>they have been called<MH7121> the land<MH776> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>Cabul<MH3521> to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And Hiram<MH2438> sent<MH7971> to the king<MH4428> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>120<MH3967, 6242> talents<MH3603> of gold<MH2091>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Now this<MH2088> is the account<MH1697> of the forced<MH4522> labor<MH4522> which<MH834> King<MH4428> Solomon<MH8010> conscripted<MH5927> to build<MH1129> the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, his own house<MH1004>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Millo<MH4407>, the wall<MH2346> of Jerusalem<MH3389>, Hazor<MH2674>, Megiddo<MH4023b>, and Gezer<MH1507>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><i>For</i> Pharaoh<MH6547> king<MH4428> of Egypt<MH4714> had gone<MH5927> up<MH5927> and overthrown<MH3920> Gezer<MH1507> and burned<MH8313> it with fire<MH784>, and killed<MH2026> the Canaanites<MH3669a> who lived<MH3427> in the city<MH5892b>; and he had given<MH5414> it <i>as</i> a dowry<MH7964> to his daughter<MH1323>, Solomon&#8217;s<MH8010> wife<MH802>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>So Solomon<MH8010> rebuilt<MH1129> Gezer<MH1507> and the lower<MH8481> Beth-horon<MH1032>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>and Baalath<MH1191> and Tamar<MH8559> in the wilderness<MH4057b>, in the land<MH776> <i>of Judah,</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>and all<MH3605> the storage<MH4543> cities<MH5892b> which<MH834> Solomon<MH8010> had<MH1961>, that is, the cities<MH5892b> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>his chariots<MH7393> and the cities<MH5892b> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>his horsemen<MH6571b>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>everything<MH2837> that it pleased<MH2836a, 2837> Solomon<MH8010> to build<MH1129> in Jerusalem<MH3389>, in Lebanon<MH3844>, and in all<MH3605> the land<MH776> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>under his rule<MH4475>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><i>As for</i> all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> who were left<MH3498> of the Amorites<MH567>, the Hittites<MH2850>, the Perizzites<MH6522>, the Hivites<MH2340>, and the Jebusites<MH2983>, who<MH834> were not of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>their descendants<MH1121> who<MH834> were left<MH3498> after<MH310> them in the land<MH776>, whom<MH834> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> were<MH3201> unable<MH3808, 3201> to completely<MH2763a> eliminate<MH2763a>, from them Solomon<MH8010> conscripted<MH5927> forced<MH4522> laborers<MH5647, 4522>, <i>as they are</i> to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But Solomon<MH8010> did not make<MH5414> slaves<MH5650> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>; for they were men<MH376> of war<MH4421>, his servants<MH5650>, his commanders<MH8269>, his charioteers<MH7991c>, his chariot<MH7393> commanders<MH8269>, and his horsemen<MH6571b>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>These<MH428> <i>were</i> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>chief<MH8269> officers<MH5324> who<MH834> <i>were</i> in<MH5921> charge<MH5921> of<MH5921> Solomon&#8217;s<MH8010> work<MH4399>, 550<MH2568, 3967, 2572>, who ruled<MH7287a> over the people<MH5971a> doing<MH6213a> the work<MH4399>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>As soon<MH389> as Pharaoh&#8217;s<MH6547> daughter<MH1323> came<MH5927> up<MH5927> from the city<MH5892b> of David<MH1732> to her house<MH1004> which<MH834> <i>Solomon</i> had built<MH1129> for her, he then<MH227> built<MH1129> the Millo<MH4407>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/9-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Now three<MH7969> times<MH6471> a year<MH8141> Solomon<MH8010> offered<MH5927> burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> and peace<MH8002> offerings<MH8002> on the altar<MH4196> which<MH834> he had built<MH1129> for the LORD<MH3068>, burning<MH6999> incense<MH6999> with them <i>on the altar</i> which<MH834> <i>was</i> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>.
