<span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>We remember<MH2142> the fish<MH1710> which<MH834> we used to eat<MH398> for<MH2600> free<MH2600> in Egypt<MH4714>, the cucumbers<MH7180>, the melons<MH20>, the leeks<MH2682>, the onions<MH1211>, and the garlic<MH7762a>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>but now<MH6258> our <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>appetite<MH5315> is gone<MH3002>. There<MH369> is<MH369> nothing<MH369> at all<MH3605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>to look<MH5869> at except<MH1115> this manna<MH4478a>!” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Now the manna<MH4478a> was like coriander<MH1407> seed<MH2233>, and its appearance<MH5869> like that of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>bdellium<MH916>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>The people<MH5971a> would roam<MH7751a> about<MH7751a> and gather<MH3950> <i>it</i> and grind<MH2912> <i>it</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>between two millstones<MH7347>, or<MH176> pound<MH1743> <i>it</i> in the mortar<MH4085>, and boil<MH1310> <i>it</i> in the pot<MH6517> and make<MH6213a> loaves<MH5692> with it; and its taste<MH2940> was like the taste<MH2940> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>cake<MH3955> <i>baked with</i> oil<MH8081>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>When the dew<MH2919> came<MH3381> down<MH3381> on the camp<MH4264> at night<MH3915>, the manna<MH4478a> would come<MH3381> down<MH3381> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>with it. <p class="hdg">The Complaint of Moses</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now Moses<MH4872> heard<MH8085> the people<MH5971a> weeping<MH1058> throughout their families<MH4940>, each<MH376> one<MH376> at the entrance<MH6607> of his tent<MH168>; and the anger<MH639> of the LORD<MH3068> became<MH2734> very<MH3966> hot<MH2734>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>Moses<MH4872> was displeased<MH7489a, 5869>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to the LORD<MH3068>, “Why<MH4100> have You <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>been<MH7489a> so hard<MH7489a> on Your servant<MH5650>? And why<MH4100> have I not found<MH4672> favor<MH2580> in Your sight<MH5869>, that You have put<MH7760> the burden<MH4853a> of all<MH3605> this<MH2088> people<MH5971a> on me? <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Was it I who conceived<MH2029> all<MH3605> this<MH2088> people<MH5971a>? Or did I give<MH3205> birth<MH3205> to them, that You should say<MH559> to me, ‘Carry<MH5375> them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>in your arms<MH2436>, as a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>nurse<MH539> carries<MH5375> a nursing<MH3243> infant<MH3243>, to the land<MH127> which<MH834> You swore<MH7650> to their fathers<MH1>’? <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Where<MH4480, 370> am I to get meat<MH1320> to give<MH5414> to all<MH3605> this<MH2088> people<MH5971a>? For they weep<MH1058> before<MH5921> me, saying<MH559>, ‘Give<MH5414> us meat<MH1320> so that we may eat<MH398>!’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>I am<MH3201> not able<MH3201> to carry<MH5375> all<MH3605> this<MH2088> people<MH5971a> by myself<MH905>, because<MH3588> it is too<MH4480> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>burdensome<MH3515> for me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>So if<MH518> You are going to deal<MH6213a> with me this<MH3602> way<MH3602>, please<MH4994> kill<MH2026> me now<MH2026>, if<MH518> I have found<MH4672> favor<MH2580> in Your sight<MH5869>, and do not let me see<MH7200> my misery<MH7463a>.” <p class="hdg">Seventy Elders to Assist Moses</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> therefore said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Gather<MH622> for Me seventy<MH7657> men<MH376> from the elders<MH2205> of Israel<MH3478>, whom<MH834> you know<MH3045> to be the elders<MH2205> of the people<MH5971a> and their officers<MH7860>, and bring<MH3947> them to the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>, and have them take<MH3320> their stand<MH3320> there<MH8033> with you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then I will come<MH3381> down<MH3381> and speak<MH1696> with you there<MH8033>, and I will take<MH680> away<MH680> some<MH4480> of the Spirit<MH7307> who<MH834> is upon you, and put<MH7760> <i>Him</i> upon them; and they shall bear<MH5375> the burden<MH4853a> of the people<MH5971a> with you, so that you will not bear<MH5375> <i>it</i> by<MH905> yourself<MH905>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And you shall say<MH559> to the people<MH5971a>, ‘Consecrate<MH6942> yourselves for tomorrow<MH4279>, and you shall eat<MH398> meat<MH1320>; for you have wept<MH1058> in the ears<MH241> of the LORD<MH3068>, saying<MH559>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>Oh<MH4310> that someone<MH4310> would give us meat<MH1320> to eat<MH398>! For we were well-off<MH2895> in Egypt<MH4714>.” Therefore the LORD<MH3068> will give<MH5414> you meat<MH1320> and you shall eat<MH398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>You shall eat<MH398>, not one<MH259> day<MH3117>, nor<MH3808> two days<MH3117>, nor<MH3808> five<MH2568> days<MH3117>, nor<MH3808> ten<MH6235> days<MH3117>, nor<MH3808> twenty<MH6242> days<MH3117>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>but for a whole<MH3117> month<MH2320>, until<MH5704, 834> it comes<MH3318> out<MH3318> of your nose<MH639> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>makes<MH1961> you nauseated<MH2214>; because<MH3282, 3588> you have rejected<MH3988a> the LORD<MH3068> who<MH834> is among<MH7130> you and have wept<MH1058> before<MH6440> Him, saying<MH559>, “Why<MH4100> did we ever<MH2088> leave<MH3318, 4480> Egypt<MH4714>?”’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But Moses<MH4872> said<MH559>, “The people<MH5971a>, among<MH7130> whom<MH834> I am <i>included,</i> are six<MH8337a> hundred<MH3967> thousand<MH505> on foot<MH7273>! Yet You have said<MH559>, ‘I will give<MH5414> them meat<MH1320>, so that they may eat<MH398> for a whole<MH3117> month<MH2320>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Are flocks<MH6629> and herds<MH1241> to be slaughtered<MH7819> for them, so that it will be<MH4672> sufficient<MH4672> for them? Or<MH518> are all<MH3605> the fish<MH1709> of the sea<MH3220> to be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>caught<MH622> for them, so that it will be<MH4672> sufficient<MH4672> for them?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Is the LORD’S<MH3068> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>power<MH3027> too<MH7114a> little<MH7114a>? Now<MH6258> you shall see<MH7200> whether My word<MH1697> will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>come<MH7136a> true<MH7136a> for you or<MH518> not.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> went<MH3318> out<MH3318> and told<MH1696> the people<MH5971a> the words<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>. He also gathered<MH622> seventy<MH7657> men<MH376> of the elders<MH2205> of the people<MH5971a>, and positioned<MH5975> them around<MH5439> the tent<MH168>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> came<MH3381> down<MH3381> in the cloud<MH6051> and spoke<MH1696> to him; and He took<MH680> away<MH680> some<MH4480> of the Spirit<MH7307> who<MH834> was upon him and placed<MH5414> <i>Him</i> upon the seventy<MH7657> elders<MH376, 2205>. And when the Spirit<MH7307> rested<MH5117> upon them, they prophesied<MH5012>. Yet they did not do<MH3254> <i>it</i> again<MH3254>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But two<MH8147> men<MH376> had remained<MH7604> in the camp<MH4264>; the name<MH8034> of the one<MH259> was Eldad<MH419>, and the name<MH8034> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>other<MH8145>, Medad<MH4312>. And the Spirit<MH7307> rested<MH5117> upon them (and they were among those who had been registered<MH3789>, but had not gone<MH3318> out<MH3318> to the tent<MH168>), and they prophesied<MH5012> in the camp<MH4264>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>So a young<MH5288> man<MH5288> ran<MH7323> and informed<MH5046> Moses<MH4872>, and said<MH559>, “Eldad<MH419> and Medad<MH4312> are prophesying<MH5012> in the camp<MH4264>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> the son<MH1121> of Nun<MH5126>, the personal<MH8334> servant<MH8334> of Moses<MH4872> from his youth<MH979>, responded<MH6030> and said<MH559>, “My lord<MH113> Moses<MH4872>, restrain<MH3607> them!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>But Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to him, “Are<MH7065> you jealous<MH7065> for my sake? If<MH4310, 5414> only<MH4310, 5414> all<MH3605> the LORD’S<MH3068> people<MH5971a> were prophets<MH5030>, that the LORD<MH3068> would put<MH5414> His Spirit<MH7307> upon them!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>returned<MH622> to the camp<MH4264>, <i>both</i> he and the elders<MH2205> of Israel<MH3478>. <p class="hdg">The Quail and the Plague</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Now a wind<MH7307> burst<MH5265> forth<MH5265> from the LORD<MH3068> and it brought<MH1468> quail<MH7958> from the sea<MH3220>, and dropped<MH5203> <i>them</i> beside<MH5921> the camp<MH4264>, about a day’s<MH3117> journey<MH1870> on this<MH3541> <i>side</i> and a day’s<MH3117> journey<MH1870> on the other<MH3541> <i>side</i> all<MH5439> around<MH5439> the camp<MH4264>, and about <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>two cubits<MH520> <i>deep</i> on the surface<MH6440> of the ground<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/11-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And the people<MH5971a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>spent<MH6965> all<MH3605> that day<MH3117>, all<MH3605> night<MH3915>, and all<MH3605> the next<MH4283> day<MH3117>, and they gathered<MH622> the quail<MH7958> before<MH2962> it was chewed<MH3772>, the anger<MH639> of the LORD<MH3068> was kindled<MH2734> against the people<MH5971a>, and the LORD<MH3068> struck<MH5221> the people<MH5971a> with a very<MH3966>
