<t><p class="indent1">And the shepherds’<MH7462a> pasture<MH4999> grounds<MH4999> mourn<MH56>, <t><p class="indent1">And the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>summit<MH7218> of Carmel<MH3760> dries<MH3001> up<MH3001>.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/amos/1-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“For three<MH7969> offenses<MH6588> of Damascus<MH1834>, and for four<MH702>, <t><p class="indent1">I will not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>revoke<MH7725> its <i>punishment,</i> <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH5921> they threshed<MH1758> Gilead<MH1568> with iron<MH1270> sledges<MH2742a>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/amos/1-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>“So I will send<MH7971> fire<MH784> upon the house<MH1004> of Hazael<MH2371>, <t><p class="indent1">And it will consume<MH398> the citadels<MH759> of Ben-hadad<MH1130>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/amos/1-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“I will also break<MH7665> the <i>gate</i> bar<MH1280> of Damascus<MH1834>, <t><p class="indent1">And eliminate<MH3772> <i>every</i> inhabitant<MH3427> from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Valley<MH1237> of Aven<MH206>, <t><p class="indent1">As well as him who holds<MH8551> the scepter<MH7626>, from Beth-eden<MH1040>; <t><p class="indent1">So the people<MH5971a> of Aram<MH758> will be exiled<MH1540> to Kir<MH7024b>,” <t><p class="indent1">Says<MH559> the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/amos/1-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“For three<MH7969> offenses<MH6588> of Gaza<MH5804a>, and for four<MH702>, <t><p class="indent1">I will not revoke<MH7725> its <i>punishment,</i> <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH5921> they led<MH1540> into<MH1540> exile<MH1540> an entire<MH8003> population<MH1546> <t><p class="indent1">To turn<MH5462> <i>them</i> over<MH5462> to Edom<MH112b>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/amos/1-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>“So I will send<MH7971> fire<MH784> on the wall<MH2346> of Gaza<MH5804a> <t><p class="indent1">And it will consume<MH398> her citadels<MH759>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/amos/1-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“I will also eliminate<MH3772> <i>every</i> inhabitant<MH3427> from Ashdod<MH795>, <t><p class="indent1">As well as him who holds<MH8551> the scepter<MH7626>, from Ashkelon<MH831>;
