Presenting themselves nearly as a kind of manuals for the heralds' office, these manuscripts, until now widely neglected, constitute a veritable "kaleidoscope" of the late medieval noble culture. Because, the duties and interests of the heralds of arms surpassed largely their preoccupation with heraldry in stricto sensu: they consist either in diplomacy and noble representation, especially in the preservation and spreading of the honour of the nobility. The aim of the present study is to introduce this promising group of sources, proposing a preliminary classification and interpretation. Therefore it makes use of two different methods. The first one focuses on the manuscripts as material objects, trying to locate their elaboration and reception in their former concrete historical context. The second one studies the texts they are including, stressing the difference between their instrumental and symbolic meaning to present in detail their eventual use and inherent attraction. By these means, the present thesis achieves to demonstrate how noble readers get appropriate the compendia. It explains this phenomenon by a peculiar image of nobility carried by them, which turns them into witnesses for the transition from the feudal society to the uprising princely state. Finally, this thesis propagates a new comprehension of the singular role played by the heralds at the end of the middle ages.

download: http://www.perspectivia.net/content/publikationen/phs/hiltmann_heroldskompendien/at_download/file

For reviews see:
H-Soz-Kult (Klara Hübner): http://hsozkult.geschichte.hu-berlin.de/rezensionen/2012-2-048
Sehepunkte (Sven Rabeler): http://www.sehepunkte.de/2012/05/20549.html
Historische Zeitschrift 295 (2012), S. 776f. Presenting themselves nearly as a kind of manuals for the heralds' office, these manuscripts, until now widely neglected, constitute a veritable \"kaleidoscope\" of the late medieval noble culture. Finally, this thesis propagates a new comprehension of the singular role played by the heralds at the end of the middle ages.\r\n\r\nLes compendia des hérauts d'armes réunissent une diversité de textes étonnante. of knowledge, not all forms of knowledge are equal and that these differentiations have significant implications for curriculum. While this argument has made an important contribution to both theoretical and policy debate, the implications for curriculum have not been sufficiently addressed. In other words, a theory of differentiated knowledge has not translated into an adequate theory of differentiated curriculum. Drawing on Basil Bernstein’s work on knowledge differentiation and Karl Maton’s Legitimation Code Theory, this paper offers an empirically derived emerging framework for conceptualizing differentiated higher education curricula with a particular interest in occupationally and pro- fessionally oriented curricula. The framework illuminates the principles underlying curriculum differentiation, thus enabling a richer conversation about epistemological access and progression.
Keywords: curriculum; higher education; While this argument has made an important contribution to both theoretical and policy debate, the implications for curriculum have not been sufficiently addressed. It emphasises the significance of seeing law as an empirical object of study for planning and environmental management. The Swedish development of wind power and 3G mobile infrastructures are used as cases to study these issues of principal interest. It is a compilation thesis consisting of a comprehensive introductory framework and five articles or chapters that have also been published elsewhere. The study is based on three main perspectives: Level of decision-making, legitimacy of different forms of knowledge involved in the process, and the sociolegal tension between formal law and its practical consequences.

The thesis deals with problems stemming from the multi-level tensions in the planning and implementation that exist between the national, the regional and the local authorities. The legal context is analysed from the sociolegal perspective, in particular how the juridification of siting and permit conflicts determines what type of knowledge that can legitimately affect the decision-making and thereby set conditions for public participation. Finally, the thesis elaborates on the largely counterproductive results of the strong emphasis on “efficiency” in the revision of planning and permit processes for wind power and 3G-infrastructure, and what can be learnt from the experiences of the attempts at increasing efficiency.

A combination of methods has been employed in the studies, and the data comes from a range of sources such as a large set of mast building permits, a sample of wind permit cases, as well as appealed permit cases. In addition, interviews have been conducted with judges from relevant courts, including regional handling officers who assess wind turbine applications. Legal documents such as preparatory work and licence conditions have also been analysed. The results show that there is a legal-rhetorical adaptation to the expert-based decision-making in court when permits are appealed. Further, the administrative levels interact poorly in the overall implementation. The national decisions, irrespective of the normative viewpoint of who should control the landscape planning, could be better informed of the preconditions at a local level that factually define the outcome of the implementation.

The author, Stefan Larsson, holds a PhD in Sociology of Law, an LLM and is a sociolegal researcher who generally studies issues in the intersection of conceptual, sociolegal and technological change. The thesis has been supervised by Professor Lars Emmelin, The Swedish School of Planning, BTH, and co-supervised by Professor Karsten Åström, the Department of Sociology of Law, Lund University. The thesis is the result of research within the programme Tools for environmental assessment in strategic decision-making, MiSt, funded by The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Centre for Work, Technology and Social Change at Lund University.

Bookmark

<a id="8798a2560602d0848226defa85dfe87b" rel="nofollow" data-download="{"attachment_id":34510047,"asset_id":8041369,"asset_type":"Work","always_allow_download":false,"track":null,"button_location":"work_strip","source":null,"hide_modal":null}" class="Button Button--sm Button--inverseGreen js-download-button prompt_button doc_download" href="https://www.academia.edu/attachments/34510047/download_file?st=MTczMjgzMzU1Nyw4LjIyMi4yMDguMTQ2&s=work_strip">Download

by Stefan Larsson

$(function() { new Works.PaperRankView({ workId: 8041369, container: ".js-paper-rank-work_8041369", });
