Resources Initiative</span>’s Tenure Tracking data monitors legal recognition of Indigenous Peoples’, Afro-descendant Peoples’, and local communities’—including Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and community women’s—rights to forests, land, and natural resources through four databases that examine both quantitative and qualitative aspects of community rights recognition:</p> <ul> <li><a style="font-weight: 400;">Rights and Resources Initiative (</span>RRI) to measure progress toward its <a href="https://rightsandresources.org/who-we-are/">two targets</a>, various international commitments, and aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals. Each of RRI’s datasets are underpinned and connected by analysis of “community-based tenure regimes”— distinct legal frameworks based on national laws and regulations that govern situations where resource rights are recognized at the community level.</p> <p>Cumulatively, RRI tracks Indigenous Peoples’, Afro-descendant Peoples’, and local communities’ tenure rights across more than 75 countries.
