<t><p class="indent1">And I will eliminate<MH3772> mankind<MH120> from the face<MH6440> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>earth<MH127>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>“So I will stretch<MH5186> out<MH5186> My hand<MH3027> against<MH5921> Judah<MH3063> <t><p class="indent1">And against<MH5921> all<MH3605> the inhabitants<MH3427> of Jerusalem<MH3389>. <t><p class="indent1">And I will eliminate<MH3772> the remnant<MH7605> of Baal<MH1168a> from this<MH2088> place<MH4725>, <t><p class="indent1"><i>And</i> the names<MH8034> of the idolatrous<MH3649> priests<MH3649> along<MH5973> with<MH5973> the <i>other</i> priests<MH3548>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“And those who bow<MH2331c> down<MH2331c> on the housetops<MH1406> to the heavenly<MH8064> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>lights<MH6635>, <t><p class="indent1">And those who bow<MH2331c> down<MH2331c> <i>and</i> swear<MH7650> to the LORD<MH3068>, but <i>also</i> swear<MH7650> by <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Milcom<MH4445b>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And those who have turned<MH5472> back<MH5472> from following<MH310> the LORD<MH3068>, <t><p class="indent1">And those who<MH834> have not sought<MH1245> the LORD<MH3068> nor<MH3808> inquired<MH1875> of Him.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Be silent<MH2013> before<MH4480, 6440> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>GOD<MH3068>! <t><p class="indent1">For the day<MH3117> of the LORD<MH3068> is near<MH7138>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> the LORD<MH3068> has prepared<MH3559> a sacrifice<MH2077>, <t><p class="indent1">He has consecrated<MH6942> His guests<MH7121>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“Then it will come<MH1961> about<MH1961> on the day<MH3117> of the LORD’S<MH3068> sacrifice<MH2077> <t><p class="indent1">That I will punish<MH6485> the princes<MH8269>, the king’s<MH4428> sons<MH1121>, <t><p class="indent1">And all<MH3605> who clothe<MH3847> themselves with foreign<MH5237> garments<MH4403>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>“And on that day<MH3117> I will punish<MH6485> all<MH3605> who leap<MH1801> on the <i>temple</i> threshold<MH4670>, <t><p class="indent1">Who fill<MH4390> the house<MH1004> of their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>lord<MH113> with violence<MH2555> and deceit<MH4820>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>“And on that day<MH3117>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, <p class="indent1stline">“There will be the sound<MH6963> of a cry<MH6818> from the Fish<MH1709> Gate<MH8179>, <t><p class="indent1">Wailing<MH3215> from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Second<MH4932> Quarter, <t><p class="indent1">And a loud<MH1419> crash<MH7667> from the hills<MH1389>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“Wail<MH3213>, you inhabitants<MH3427> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Mortar<MH4389>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> all<MH3605> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>people<MH5971a> of Canaan<MH3667a> will be destroyed<MH1820>; <t><p class="indent1">All<MH3605> who weigh<MH5187> out<MH5187> silver<MH3701> will be eliminated<MH3772>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“And it will come<MH1961> about<MH1961> at that time<MH6256> <t><p class="indent1">That I will search<MH2664> Jerusalem<MH3389> with lamps<MH5216>, <t><p class="indent1">And I will punish<MH6485> the people<MH376> <t><p class="indent1">Who are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>stagnant<MH7087a> in spirit<MH8105>, <t><p class="indent1">Who say<MH559> in their hearts<MH3824>, <t><p class="indent1">‘The LORD<MH3068> will not do<MH3190> good<MH3190> nor<MH3808> harm<MH7489a>!’ <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>“Their wealth<MH2428> will become<MH1961> plunder<MH4933>, <t><p class="indent1">And their houses<MH1004> desolate<MH8077>; <t><p class="indent1">Yes, they will build<MH1129> houses<MH1004> but not inhabit<MH3427> <i>them,</i> <t><p class="indent1">And plant<MH5193> vineyards<MH3754> but not drink<MH8354> their wine<MH3196>.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/zephaniah/1-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>The great<MH1419> day<MH3117> of the LORD<MH3068> is near<MH7138>, <t><p class="indent1">Near<MH7138> and coming<MH4118a> very<MH3966> quickly<MH4118a>;
