id="projektuberblick"><strong><a id="projektueberblick"></a>Projektüberblick:</strong></h2> <p>Die Reichhaltigkeit der Bestände deutscher Archive zur Geschichte des modernen Indiens ist bislang ebenso ungenügend erkannt worden wie das in ihnen schlummernde wissenschaftliche Potenzial. Zum einen kann ihre Erforschung den internationalen historischen Indienstudien Perspektiven eröffnen, die eine übermäßige Fixierung auf britische Kolonialarchive bisher weitgehend verstellt hat. Zum anderen ermöglichen diese weitgehend brachliegenden Ressourcen die Rekonstruktion deutsch-indischer Verflechtungsgeschichte seit dem 18. Jahrhundert und damit die Formulierung innovativer komparativer und globalgeschichtlicher Fragestellungen. Die somit mögliche doppelte Erweiterung von Forschungsperspektiven kann zudem neue Chancen für die Intensivierung von Kommunikation und Kooperation zwischen geschichtswissenschaftlichen Traditionen in Indien und Deutschland schaffen, die sich bisher gegenseitig kaum wahrgenommen haben.<br>Das Langfristvorhaben „Das Moderne Indien in Deutschen Archiven“ (<span class="caps">MIDA</span>) soll hierfür Voraussetzungen schaffen, indem es</p> <ul> <li> die Bestände deutscher Archive zur Geschichte des modernen Indiens und zur deutsch-indischen Verflechtungsgeschichte von der Etablierung der Dänisch-Halleschen Mission in Südindien (1706) bis zum Ende der deutschen Zweistaatlichkeit (1989/90) systematisch in einer Datenbank erfasst und verschlagwortet; </li> <li> diese Datenbank der internationalen Forschung als „wachsende“ und offene digitale Ressource für gezielte Archivrecherchen nachhaltig zur Verfügung stellt; </li> <li> auf der Grundlage dieser systematischen Bestandserfassung einen sukzessive zu erweiternden digitalen Archivführer erstellt, der sowohl der internationalen Forschung wie auch einem breiteren Publikum einen Überblick über die relevanten Bestände in ihrer thematischen Breite ermöglicht; </li> <li> durch eine Serie von Pilot-Forschungsprojekten und eine daraus hervorgehende Schriftenreihe das Potential deutscher Archivressourcen für indienbezogene Forschungen exemplarisch demonstriert, um a) deren intensivere Erforschung insbesondere durch deutsche und indische Historiker/innen sowie b) die Schaffung der hierfür erforderlichen multilingualen und interregionalen Qualifikationsprofile zu fördern; </li> <li> durch gezielte Maßnahmen, insbesondere mittels einer deutsch-indischen „Tandemstruktur“ der Pilotprojekte, zur nachhaltigen Realisierung des von <span class="caps">DFG</span> und Indian Council for Historical Research (<span class="caps">ICHR</span>) auf einem bilateralen Symposium im November 2012 formulierten Ziels einer Intensivierung deutsch-indischer Forschungskooperationen in den Geisteswissenschaften beiträgt. </li> </ul> <h2 id="projektziele"><strong><a id="projektziele"></a>Projektziele:</strong></h2> <p>Ein wichtiges Ziel des Langfristvorhabens „Das Moderne Indien in Deutschen Archiven“ (<span class="caps">MIDA</span>) ist es, die Bestände deutscher Archive zur Geschichte des modernen Indiens und zur deutsch-indischen Verflechtungsgeschichte von 1706 bis 1989/90 systematisch in einer Datenbank zu erfassen und inhaltlich zu erschließen und diese Datenbank der internationalen Forschung zur Verfügung zu stellen.</p> <p>Über diese Erfassung der relevanten Bestände hinaus soll deren Aufbereitung in einem digitalen Archivführer gewährleisten, diese Archivdaten so zu präsentieren, dass sie gegenwärtigen und zukünftigen Forschungsbedürfnissen gerecht werden.</p> <p>Diese Forschungsbedürfnisse werden durch die historiographische Tendenz zu transnationalen und transterritorialen Perspektiven geprägt. Das MIDA-Projekt selbst ist Ausdruck dieser zunehmenden Öffnung der Geschichtswissenschaften: Quellenbestände zum modernen Indien in deutschen Archiven, die früheren national- aber auch kolonialhistorischen Containerperspektiven als marginal erscheinen mussten, treten erst jetzt ins Zentrum der Untersuchung. Zuvor konnten territorialstaatlich definierte Perspektiven, sei es die einer deutschen Nationalgeschichte, sei es die einer britisch-indischen Kolonialhistoriographie, Quellenbeständen wenig abgewinnen, deren Bedeutung erst im Zusammenspiel mit Materialien deutlich werden konnte, die aus anderen territorialen Kontexten hervorgegangen waren.</p> <p>Transnationale bzw. transterritoriale Perspektiven fokussierten zunächst häufig auf die Geschichte von Transfers oder gegenseitiger Rezeption, untersuchten also bilaterale Beziehungen bzw. Transferachsen, die den territorialen Rahmen von National- bzw. Imperialhistoriographien überschritten. Inzwischen sind verflechtungsgeschichtliche Forschungsansätze in der Geistes‑, Kultur- und Sozialgeschichte, aber auch in postkolonialen Studien weitgehend verankert, und auch deutsch-indische Austauschbeziehungen werden weniger entlang von Transferachsen als in größeren verflechtungsgeschichtlichen Zusammenhängen untersucht.</p> <p>Wenn Verflechtungsgeschichte inhaltlich wohl etabliert ist, so scheinen die methodologischen Konsequenzen dieser historiographischen Entwicklung jedoch bislang eher unterbeleuchtet. Wenn beispielsweise indische und deutsche historischen Akteure komplexe Austauschbeziehungen eingingen, die nicht auf bilaterale, von territorialstaatlichen Institutionen vermittelte Transferachsen reduziert werden können, sondern in ausgreifende transnationale Netzwerke eingebunden waren, was bedeutet dies für die Ordnung der Archivalien und die Strukturen des Archivs? Nun ist das Archiv als Form epistemologischer Machtartikulation aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven bekanntlich zum Gegenstand intensiver philosophischer und historischer Reflexion geworden. Die enge Verbindung zwischen der Logik des Archivs und der institutionellen Logik von Machtapparaten, insbesondere von staatlichen (nationalen oder imperialen) Machtapparaten, liegt heute offen zutage. Welche Konsequenzen hat es aber, wenn wir, im Rahmen des MIDA-Langfristvorhabens, nicht nur mit unserer Forschung die konzeptionellen Container der Territorialstaaten verlassen, sondern Archivalien in neue Beziehung zueinander bringen und in gewisser Weise ein neues „Meta-Archiv“ produzieren?</p> <p>Auf diese Fragestellungen will das Projekt reagieren, indem es in der Präsentation der Bestände in der Datenbank die Archive zunächst als singuläre, institutionell und territorial abgegrenzte Aufbewahrungsorte nimmt und deren Eigenlogik folgt.
