The text based service includes news and sport headlines and business, weather, travel and lottery updates. </p> <p>The video elements of the service will continue and you’ll still be able to enjoy lots of extra coverage from a huge range of sports and live events. </p> <h3>When is this happening? </h3> <p>From January 2020, the Red Button text service will close. People can currently see messages on the Red Button letting them know about the closure and giving them information about alternative services from the BBC across TV, Radio and Online. </p> <h3>Why is the BBC doing this? </h3> <p>This isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly but we want to give people even better services in the future and this means balancing the resources we need to maintain the Red Button text service with the additional resource needed to create new and better ways for viewers to experience BBC content across all our platforms (TV, radio and online).
