Maternal separation is a detrimental postnatal influence, whereas environmental enrichment is a therapeutic and protective agent. It is unclear if long-term environmental enrichment can compensate for the effects of maternal separation stress on anxiety behavior. This study was designed to examine how environmental enrichment affects anxiety levels and corticosterone levels in maternally separated rats. There are six main groups in this study: control (C), maternal separation+standard cage (MS), maternal separation+enriched environment (MSE), enriched environment (E), the maternal separation that decapitated at postnatal (PN) 21 (MS21), and standard cage that decapitated at PN21 (STD21). The maternal separation procedure consisted of PN for 21 days (between 09:00 a.m and 12:00 a.m). Enriched (E, MSE) or standard cage environment rats (MS, C) spent PN (22-55) days in either enriched cages or standard cages. Anxiety and locomotor activity were examined with the open field and elevated plus-maze test. Blood corticosterone level was evaluated by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Results showed that maternal separation (MS) increased locomotor activity and anxiety. An enriched environment (E) did not change the locomotor activity. MSE group’s anxiety and locomotor activity did not change. Corticosterone levels increased in the maternal separation group that decapitated at the PN 21 days. Maternal separation increases anxiety. Environmental enrichment alone was insufficient to cause alterations in the anxiety level. In addition, environmental enrichment did not ameliorate the anxiety level in maternally separated rats. However, environmental enrichment decreased the locomotor activity in the maternally separated rats. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maternal%20separation" title="maternal separation">maternal separation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environment%20enrichment" title=" environment enrichment"> environment enrichment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress" title=" stress"> stress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hippocampus" title=" hippocampus"> hippocampus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anxiety" title=" anxiety"> anxiety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=memory" title=" memory"> memory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rat" title=" rat"> rat</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155049/the-effect-of-environmental-enrichment-on-anxiety-and-stress-hormone-in-maternally-separated-male-rats" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155049.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">91</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2938</span> The FINDRISC Score for Prediabetes and Diabetes Screening in Adult Libyan Males</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Issam%20M%20Hajjaji">Issam M Hajjaji</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adel%20Tajoury"> Adel Tajoury</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salah%20R%20Benhamid"> Salah R Benhamid</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The MENA region has the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world. Various risk scores were developed, not all appropriate locally. The objective of this study is to apply the FINDRISC Score to adult Libyan males to determine its significance, sensitivity, specificity and Positive Predictive Values as an initial screening tool for type 2 diabetes, and suggest a cut-off point. Methods: 600 subjects answered the questionnaire at their place of work, and their waist, weight, height & BP were measured. Thereafter, after excluding those with known diabetes, an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test was done. Results: 414 subjects aged 19-78 completed the questionnaire and tests. 35 (8.4%) had impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and 13 (3.1%) had diabetes (DM). The AUC-ROC for IGT was 0.614 (95% CI: 0.527-0.701), for DM 0.810 (95% CI: 0.709-0.911) and for both 0.689 (95% CI: 0.609-0.769). The Positive Predictive Value for a cut-off score of 5 were 15.5%, 11.7% & 5.7% for both conditions combined, prediabetes & diabetes respectively. The equivalent values for a cut-off score of 8 were 16.1%, 9.0% & 7.7%. The Negative Predictive Values were uniformly above 90%. Conclusions & Recommendations: The FINDRISC Score had a low predictive value for dysglycaemia in this sample and performed at a level of significance for IGT that is similar to other MENA countries, but did better for DM. A larger sample that included women is suggested, with a view of adjusting the Score to suit the local population. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diabetes" title="diabetes">diabetes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FINDRISK" title=" FINDRISK"> FINDRISK</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Libya" title=" Libya"> Libya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=prediabetes" title=" prediabetes"> prediabetes</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150735/the-findrisc-score-for-prediabetes-and-diabetes-screening-in-adult-libyan-males" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150735.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">126</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2937</span> (Anti)Depressant Effects of Non-Steroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs in Mice</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Horia%20P%C4%83unescu">Horia Păunescu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: The study aimed to assess the depressant or antidepressant effects of several Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) in mice: the selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor meloxicam, and the non-selective COX-1 and COX-2 inhibitors lornoxicam, sodium metamizole, and ketorolac. The current literature data regarding such effects of these agents are scarce. Materials and methods: The study was carried out on NMRI mice weighing 20-35 g, kept in a standard laboratory environment. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy „Carol Davila”, Bucharest. The study agents were injected intraperitoneally, 10 mL/kg body weight (bw) 1 hour before the assessment of the locomotor activity by cage testing (n=10 mice/ group) and 2 hours before the forced swimming tests (n=15). The study agents were dissolved in normal saline (meloxicam, sodium metamizole), ethanol 11.8% v/v in normal saline (ketorolac), or water (lornoxicam), respectively. Negative and positive control agents were also given (amitryptilline in the forced swimming test). The cage floor used in the locomotor activity assessment was divided into 20 equal 10 cm squares. The forced swimming test involved partial immersion of the mice in cylinders (15/9cm height/diameter) filled with water (10 cm depth at 28C), where they were left for 6 minutes. The cage endpoint used in the locomotor activity assessment was the number of treaded squares. Four endpoints were used in the forced swimming test (immobility latency for the entire 6 minutes, and immobility, swimming, and climbing scores for the final 4 minutes of the swimming session), recorded by an observer that was "blinded" to the experimental design. The statistical analysis used the Levene test for variance homogeneity, ANOVA and post-hoc analysis as appropriate, Tukey or Tamhane tests. Results: No statistically significant increase or decrease in the number of treaded squares was seen in the locomotor activity assessment of any mice group. In the forced swimming test, amitryptilline showed an antidepressant effect in each experiment, at the 10 mg/kg bw dosage. Sodium metamizole was depressant at 100 mg/kg bw (increased the immobility score, p=0.049, Tamhane test), but not in lower dosages as well (25 and 50 mg/kg bw). Ketorolac showed an antidepressant effect at the intermediate dosage of 5 mg/kg bw, but not so in the dosages of 2.5 and 10 mg/kg bw, respectively (increased the swimming score, p=0.012, Tamhane test). Meloxicam and lornoxicam did not alter the forced swimming endpoints at any dosage level. Discussion: 1) Certain NSAIDs caused changes in the forced swimming patterns without interfering with locomotion. 2) Sodium metamizole showed a depressant effect, whereas ketorolac proved antidepressant. Conclusion: NSAID-induced mood changes are not class effects of these agents and apparently are independent of the type of inhibited cyclooxygenase (COX-1 or COX-2). Landfill waste contains a high density of various persistent compounds such as heavy metals, organic and inorganic materials. As persistent compounds are slowly-degradable or even non-degradable in the environment, they often produce sublethal or even lethal effects on aquatic organisms. The aims of the present study were to estimate sublethal effects of the Kairiai landfill (WGS: 55&deg;55&lsquo;46.74&ldquo;, 23&deg;23&lsquo;28.4&ldquo;) leachate on the locomotor activity of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss juveniles using the original system package developed in our laboratory for automated monitoring, recording and analysis of aquatic organisms&rsquo; activity, and to determine patterns of fish behavioral response to sublethal effects of leachate. Four different concentrations of leachate were chosen: 0.125; 0.25; 0.5 and 1.0 mL/L (0.0025; 0.005; 0.01 and 0.002 as part of 96-hour LC50, respectively). Locomotor activity was measured after 5, 10 and 30 minutes of exposure during 1-minute test-periods of each fish (7 fish per treatment). The threshold-effect-concentration amounted to 0.18 mL/L (0.0036 parts of 96-hour LC50). This concentration was found to be even 2.8-fold lower than the concentration generally assumed to be &ldquo;safe&rdquo; for fish. At higher concentrations, the landfill leachate solution elicited behavioral response of test fish to sublethal levels of pollutants. The ability of the rainbow trout to detect and avoid contaminants occurred after 5 minutes of exposure. The intensity of locomotor activity reached a peak within 10 minutes, evidently decreasing after 30 minutes. This could be explained by the physiological and biochemical adaptation of fish to altered environmental conditions. It has been established that the locomotor activity of juvenile trout depends on leachate concentration and exposure duration. Modeling of these parameters showed that the activity of juveniles increased at higher leachate concentrations, but slightly decreased with the increasing exposure duration. Experiment results confirm that the behavior of rainbow trout juveniles is a sensitive and rapid biomarker that can be used in combination with the system for fish behavior monitoring, registration and analysis to determine sublethal concentrations of pollutants in ambient water. Further research should be focused on software improvement aimed to include more parameters of aquatic organisms&rsquo; behavior and to investigate the most rapid and appropriate behavioral responses in different species. In practice, this study could be the basis for the development and creation of biological early-warning systems (BEWS). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fish%20behavior%20biomarker" title="fish behavior biomarker">fish behavior biomarker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=landfill%20leachate" title=" landfill leachate"> landfill leachate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=locomotor%20activity" title=" locomotor activity"> locomotor activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rainbow%20trout%20juveniles" title=" rainbow trout juveniles"> rainbow trout juveniles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sublethal%20effects" title=" sublethal effects"> sublethal effects</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38540/use-of-locomotor-activity-of-rainbow-trout-juveniles-in-identifying-sublethal-concentrations-of-landfill-leachate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38540.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">271</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2934</span> Effect of the Birth Order and Arrival of Younger Siblings on the Development of a Child: Evidence from India </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Swati%20Srivastava">Swati Srivastava</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashish%20Kumar%20Upadhyay"> Ashish Kumar Upadhyay</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Using longitudinal data from three waves of Young Lives Study and Ordinary Least Square methods, study has investigated the effect of birth order and arrival of younger siblings on child development in India. Study used child’s height for age z-score, weight for age z-score, BMI for age z-score, Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT-Score)c, maths score, Early Grade Reading Assessment Test (ERGA) score, and memory score to measure the physical and cognitive development of child during wave-3. Findings suggest that having a high birth order is detrimental for child development and the gap between adjacent siblings is larger for children late in the birth sequences than early in the birth sequences. Study also reported that not only older siblings but arrival of younger siblings before assessment of test also reduces the development of a child. The effects become stronger in case of female children than male children. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=height%20for%20age%20z-score" title="height for age z-score">height for age z-score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weight%20for%20age%20z-score" title=" weight for age z-score"> weight for age z-score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BMI%20for%20z-score" title=" BMI for z-score"> BMI for z-score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PPVT%20score" title=" PPVT score"> PPVT score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=math%20score" title=" math score"> math score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EGRA%20score" title=" EGRA score"> EGRA score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=memory%20score" title=" memory score"> memory score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=birth%20order" title=" birth order"> birth order</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=siblings" title=" siblings"> siblings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Young%20Lives%20Study" title=" Young Lives Study"> Young Lives Study</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=India" title=" India"> India</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40686/effect-of-the-birth-order-and-arrival-of-younger-siblings-on-the-development-of-a-child-evidence-from-india" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40686.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">335</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2933</span> Maximum Deformation Estimation for Reinforced Concrete Buildings Using Equivalent Linearization Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chien-Kuo%20Chiu">Chien-Kuo Chiu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the displacement-based seismic design and evaluation, equivalent linearization method is one of the approximation methods to estimate the maximum inelastic displacement response of a system. In this study, the accuracy of two equivalent linearization methods are investigated. The investigation consists of three soil condition in Taiwan (Taipei Basin 1, 2, and 3) and five different heights of building (H_r= 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 m). The first method is the Taiwan equivalent linearization method (TELM) which was proposed based on Japanese equivalent linear method considering the modification factor, α_T= 0.85. On the basis of Lin and Miranda study, the second method is proposed with some modification considering Taiwan soil conditions. From this study, it is shown that Taiwanese equivalent linearization method gives better estimation compared to the modified Lin and Miranda method (MLM). The error index for the Taiwanese equivalent linearization method are 16%, 13%, and 12% for Taipei Basin 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Furthermore, a ductility demand spectrum of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system is presented in this study as a guide for engineers to estimate the ductility demand of a structure. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=displacement-based%20design" title="displacement-based design">displacement-based design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ductility%20demand%20spectrum" title=" ductility demand spectrum"> ductility demand spectrum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20linearization%20method" title=" equivalent linearization method"> equivalent linearization method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RC%20buildings" title=" RC buildings"> RC buildings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single-degree-of-freedom" title=" single-degree-of-freedom"> single-degree-of-freedom</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91802/maximum-deformation-estimation-for-reinforced-concrete-buildings-using-equivalent-linearization-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91802.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">162</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2932</span> The Effect of Program Type on Mutation Testing: Comparative Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B.%20Falah">B. Recently, many cost and mutants&rsquo; reduction techniques have been developed, improved, and experimented, but few of them has relied the possibility of reducing the cost of mutation testing on the program type of the application under test. This paper is a comparative study between four operators&rsquo; selection techniques (mutants sampling, class level operators, method level operators, and all operators&rsquo; selection) based on the program code type of each application under test. It aims at finding an alternative approach to reveal the effect of code type on mutation testing score. The result of our experiment shows that the program code type can affect the mutation score and that the programs using polymorphism are best suited to be tested with mutation testing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20mutant" title="equivalent mutant">equivalent mutant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=killed%20mutant" title=" killed mutant"> killed mutant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mutation%20score" title=" mutation score"> mutation score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mutation%20testing" title=" mutation testing"> mutation testing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=program%20code%20type" title=" program code type"> program code type</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=software%20testing" title=" software testing"> software testing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34959/the-effect-of-program-type-on-mutation-testing-comparative-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34959.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">554</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2931</span> On Chromaticity of Wheels</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zainab%20Yasir%20Abed%20Al-Rekaby">Zainab Yasir Abed Al-Rekaby</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Jalil%20M.%20Khalaf"> Abdul Jalil M. However, they have adverse effects such as interaction with alcohol, ataxia, impaired learning, and psychological and physical dependence. According to the structure of zolpidem and on the basis of the structure-activity relationship of BZD receptor ligands, six novel derivatives of 2-fluorobenzyloxy 4,6- diphenylpyramidin-2-ol have been synthesized. We studied the hypnotic, sedative, and anticonvulsant effects of the novel compounds. Method: In this study, we used male mice (18 to 25 g). All the substances were injected intraperitoneally. The hypnotic effect of the compounds was examined by pentobarbital induced sleeping test. The locomotor activities and sedative effects of the novel compounds were evaluated by open field and loss of righting reflex test, respectively. The anticonvulsant effects of the novel compounds were assessed by PTZ and MES tests. Results: In the pentobarbital induced sleeping and open field tests, compound 4-(2-((2-fluorobenzyl)oxy)phenyl)-6-(p-tolyl) pyrimidine-2-ol with ED50=14.20 mg/kg and ED50=47.88 mg/kg, respectively, was the most effective compound. None of the novel compounds showed a significant anticonvulsant effect in the PTZ test. In MES test, compound 4-(2-((2-fluorobenzyl)oxy)phenyl)-6-(p-tolyl)pyrimidine-2-ol with ED50=12.92 mg/kg was the most effective compound. Flumazenil blocked the sedation and hypnosis of all the compounds. Conclusion: All of the novel derivatives showed significant sedative-hypnotic activities and caused the reduction of locomotor activities. The results show that the methyl lipophilic substitutes on the phenyl ring of 4,6-diphenylpyramidin-2-ol derivatives can increase the sedative and hypnotic effects of the derivatives. Flumazenil antagonized the sedative, and the hypnotic effects of the compounds indicate that BZD receptors are involved in the effects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BZD" title="BZD">BZD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sedative" title=" sedative"> sedative</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hyptonic" title=" hyptonic"> hyptonic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anticonvulsant" title=" anticonvulsant"> anticonvulsant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zolpidem" title=" zolpidem"> zolpidem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MES" title=" MES"> MES</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PTZ" title=" PTZ"> PTZ</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benzodiazepine" title=" benzodiazepine"> benzodiazepine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=locomotor%20activities" title=" locomotor activities"> locomotor activities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pentobarbital%20induced%20sleeping%20tests" title=" pentobarbital induced sleeping tests"> pentobarbital induced sleeping tests</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141043/evaluation-of-anticonvulsant-and-sedative-hypnotic-activities-of-novel-2-fluorobenzyloxy-46-diphenylpyrimidin-2-ol-derivatives-in-mice" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141043.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">64</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2929</span> Infringement of Patent Rights with Doctrine of Equivalent for Turkey</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Duru%20Helin%20Ozaner">Duru Helin Ozaner</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Due to the doctrine of equivalent, the words in the claims' sentences are insufficient for the protection area provided by the patent registration. While this situation widens the boundaries of the protection area, it also obscures the boundaries of the protected area of patents. In addition, it creates distrust for third parties. Therefore, the doctrine of equivalent aims to establish a balance between the rights of patent owners and the legal security of third parties. The current legal system of Turkey has been tried to be created as a parallel judicial system to the widely applied regulations. Therefore, the regulations regarding the protection provided by patents in the current Turkish legal system are similar to many countries. However, infringement through equivalent is common by third parties. This study, it is aimed to explain that the protection provided by the patent is not only limited to the words of the claims but also the wide-ranging protection provided by the claims for the doctrine of equivalence. This study is important to determine the limits of the protection provided by the patent right holder and to indicate the importance of the equivalent elements of the protection granted to the patent right holder. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patent" title="patent">patent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=infringement" title=" infringement"> infringement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intellectual%20property" title=" intellectual property"> intellectual property</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=the%20doctrine%20of%20equivalent" title=" the doctrine of equivalent"> the doctrine of equivalent</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141450/infringement-of-patent-rights-with-doctrine-of-equivalent-for-turkey" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141450.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">214</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2928</span> A Study of Chromatic Uniqueness of W14</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zainab%20Yasir%20Al-Rekaby">Zainab Yasir Al-Rekaby</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Jalil%20M.%20Khalaf"> Abdul Jalil M. Using a Stockbridge damper reduces these vibrations and increases the life span of the conductor cable. Designing an efficient Stockbridge damper that suits the conductor cable requires a robust mathematical model with minimum assumptions. However it is not easy to analytically model the complex geometry of the messenger. Therefore an equivalent stiffness must be determined so that it can be used in the analytical model. This paper examines the bending stiffness of the cable and discusses the effect of this stiffness on the natural frequencies. The obtained equivalent stiffness compensates for the assumption of modeling the messenger as a rod. The results from the free vibration analysis of the analytical model with the equivalent stiffness is validated using the full scale finite element model of the Stockbridge damper. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20stiffness" title="equivalent stiffness">equivalent stiffness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20model" title=" finite element model"> finite element model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free%20vibration%20response" title=" free vibration response"> free vibration response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stockbridge%20damper" title=" Stockbridge damper"> Stockbridge damper</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60205/finite-element-modeling-of-stockbridge-damper-and-vibration-analysis-equivalent-cable-stiffness" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60205.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">285</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2925</span> Effect of PMMA Shield on the Patient Dose Equivalent from Photoneutrons Produced by High Energy Medical Linacs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyed%20Mehdi%20Hashemi">Seyed Mehdi Hashemi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gholamreza%20Raisali"> Gholamreza Raisali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehran%20Taheri"> Mehran Taheri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One of the important problems of using high energy linacs at IMRT is the production of photoneutrons. Besides the clinically useful photon beams, high-energy photon beams from medical linacs produce secondary neutrons. These photoneutrons increase the patient dose and may cause secondary malignancies. The effect of the shield on the reduction of photoneutron dose equivalent produced by a high energy medical linac at the patient plane is investigated in this study. To determine the photoneutron dose equivalent received to the patient a Varian linac working at 18 MV photon mode investigated. Photoneutron dose equivalent measured with Polycarbonate films of 0.25 mm thick. PC films placed at distances of 0, 10, 20, and 50 cm from the center of X-ray field on the patient couch. The results show that by increasing the distance from the center of the X-ray beam towards the periphery, the photoneutron dose equivalent decreases rapidly for both open and shielded fields and that by inserting the shield in the path of the X-ray beam, the photoneutron dose equivalent was decreased obviously compared to open field. Results show the shield, significantly reduces photoneutron dose equivalent to the patient. Results can be readily generalized to other models of medical linacs. It may be concluded that using this kind of shield can help more safe, inexpensive and efficient employment of high energy linacs in radiotherapy and IMRT. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photoneutron" title="photoneutron">photoneutron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Linac" title=" Linac"> Linac</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PMMA%20shield" title=" PMMA shield"> PMMA shield</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20dose" title=" equivalent dose"> equivalent dose</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32830/effect-of-pmma-shield-on-the-patient-dose-equivalent-from-photoneutrons-produced-by-high-energy-medical-linacs" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32830.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">493</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2924</span> Equivalent Circuit Model for the Eddy Current Damping with Frequency-Dependence</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhiguo%20Shi">Zhiguo Shi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheng%20Ning%20Loong"> Cheng Ning Loong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jiazeng%20Shan"> Jiazeng Shan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Weichao%20Wu">Weichao Wu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study proposes an equivalent circuit model to simulate the eddy current damping force with shaking table tests and finite element modeling. The model is firstly proposed and applied to a simple eddy current damper, which is modelled in ANSYS, indicating that the proposed model can simulate the eddy current damping force under different types of excitations. Then, a non-contact and friction-free eddy current damper is designed and tested, and the proposed model can reproduce the experimental observations. The excellent agreement between the simulated results and the experimental data validates the accuracy and reliability of the equivalent circuit model. Furthermore, a more complicated model is performed in ANSYS to verify the feasibility of the equivalent circuit model in complex eddy current damper, and the higher-order fractional model and viscous model are adopted for comparison. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20circuit%20model" title="equivalent circuit model">equivalent circuit model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eddy%20current%20damping" title=" eddy current damping"> eddy current damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20model" title=" finite element model"> finite element model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shake%20table%20test" title=" shake table test"> shake table test</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119732/equivalent-circuit-model-for-the-eddy-current-damping-with-frequency-dependence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119732.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">191</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2923</span> Stability Design by Geometrical Nonlinear Analysis Using Equivalent Geometric Imperfections</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Fominow">S. The application of these equivalent imperfections takes into account the stiffness-reducing effects due to inelasticity and residual stresses, which lead to a reduction of the load carrying capacity of slender members and structures. This allows the application of a simplified design method, that is performed in three steps. Application of equivalent geometric imperfections, determination of internal forces using geometrical non-linear analysis (GNIA) and verification of the cross-section resistance at the most unfavourable location. All three verification steps are closely related and influence the results. The derivation of the equivalent imperfections was carried out in several steps. First, reference lateral-torsional buckling resistances for various rolled I-sections, slenderness grades, load shapes and steel grades were determined. This was done either with geometric and material non-linear analysis with geometrical imperfections and residual stresses (GMNIA) or for standard cases based on the equivalent member method. With the aim of obtaining identical lateral-torsional buckling resistances as the reference resistances from the application of the design method, the required sizes for equivalent imperfections were derived. For this purpose, a program based on the FEM method has been developed. Based on these results, several proposals for the specification of equivalent geometric imperfections have been developed. These differ in the shape of the applied equivalent geometric imperfection, the model of the cross-sectional resistance and the steel grade. The proposed design methods allow a wide range of applications and a reliable calculation of the lateral-torsional buckling resistances, as comparisons between the calculated resistances and the reference resistances have shown. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20geometric%20imperfections" title="equivalent geometric imperfections">equivalent geometric imperfections</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GMNIA" title=" GMNIA"> GMNIA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lateral-torsional%20buckling" title=" lateral-torsional buckling"> lateral-torsional buckling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20finite%20element%20analysis" title=" non-linear finite element analysis"> non-linear finite element analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95750/stability-design-by-geometrical-nonlinear-analysis-using-equivalent-geometric-imperfections" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95750.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2922</span> Electrical Equivalent Analysis of Micro Cantilever Beams for Sensing Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B.%20G.%20Sheeparamatti">B. The detection principle of microcantilever sensors is based on the measurement of change in cantilever deflection or change in its resonance frequency. The objective of this work is to explore the analogies between the mechanical and electrical equivalent of microcantilever beams. Normally scientists and engineers working in MEMS use expensive software like CoventorWare, IntelliSuite, ANSYS/Multiphysics, etc. This paper indicates the need of developing the electrical equivalent of the MEMS structure and with that, one can have a better insight on important parameters, and their interrelation of the MEMS structure. In this work, considering the mechanical model of the microcantilever, the equivalent electrical circuit is drawn and using a force-voltage analogy, it is analyzed with circuit simulation software. By doing so, one can gain access to a powerful set of intellectual tools that have been developed for understanding electrical circuits. Later the analysis is performed using ANSYS/Multiphysics - software based on finite element method (FEM). It is observed that both mechanical and electrical domain results for a rectangular microcantilevers are in agreement with each other. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrical%20equivalent%20circuit%20analogy" title="electrical equivalent circuit analogy">electrical equivalent circuit analogy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FEM%20analysis" title=" FEM analysis"> FEM analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro%20cantilevers" title=" micro cantilevers"> micro cantilevers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro%20sensors" title=" micro sensors"> micro sensors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32960/electrical-equivalent-analysis-of-micro-cantilever-beams-for-sensing-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32960.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">397</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2921</span> Impact of Series Reactive Compensation on Increasing a Distribution Network Distributed Generation Hosting Capacity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moataz%20Ammar">Moataz Ammar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahdab%20Elmorshedy"> Ahdab Elmorshedy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The distributed generation hosting capacity of a distribution network is typically limited at a given connection point by the upper voltage limit that can be violated due to the injection of active power into the distribution network. The upper voltage limit violation concern becomes more important as the network equivalent resistance increases with respect to its equivalent reactance. This paper investigates the impact of modifying the distribution network equivalent reactance at the point of connection such that the upper voltage limit is violated at a higher distributed generation penetration, than it would without the addition of series reactive compensation. The results show that series reactive compensation proves efficient in certain situations (based on the ratio of equivalent network reactance to equivalent network resistance at the point of connection). As opposed to the conventional case of capacitive compensation of a distribution network to reduce voltage drop, inductive compensation is seen to be more appropriate for alleviation of distributed-generation-induced voltage rise. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20generation" title="distributed generation">distributed generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distribution%20networks" title=" distribution networks"> distribution networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=series%20compensation" title=" series compensation"> series compensation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=voltage%20rise" title=" voltage rise"> voltage rise</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67485/impact-of-series-reactive-compensation-on-increasing-a-distribution-network-distributed-generation-hosting-capacity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67485.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2920</span> A Survey on Positive Real and Strictly Positive Real Scalar Transfer Functions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mojtaba%20Hakimi-Moghaddam">Mojtaba Hakimi-Moghaddam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Positive real and strictly positive real transfer functions are important concepts in the control theory. The purpose of this study was to characterize the possible protective effect of sinapic acid on chlorpyrifos (CPF), a common organophosphorus pesticide used worldwide, induced toxicity in rats. Forty male and female rats (240-270 g) were used in this study. Each group was composed of 5 male and 5 female rats. Sinapic acid (20 mg/kg or 40 mg/kg) or vehicle (olive oil, 1 ml ⁄ rat) were given orally for 5 days. CPF (279 mg/kg) or vehicle (peanut oil, 2 ml ⁄ kg, s.c.) was administered on the sixth day, immediately after the recording of the body weight of the animals. Twenty four hours following CPF administration body weight, body temperature and locomotor activity values were recorded before decapitation of the animals. Trunk blood, brain, and liver samples were collected for biochemical examinations. Chlorpyrifos administration decreased butyrylcholinesterase activity in blood, brain, and liver, while it increased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) (p < 0.01 - 0.001). Additionally, CPF administration reduced the body weight, body temperature, and locomotor activity values of the animals (p < 0.01 - 0.001). All these physiological and biochemical changes induced by CPF were reduced with the 40 mg/kg dose of SA (p < 0.05 - 0.001). Our results suggest that SA administration ameliorates CPF induced toxicity in rats, possibly by supporting the antioxidant mechanism. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidant" title="antioxidant">antioxidant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chlorpyrifos" title=" Chlorpyrifos"> Chlorpyrifos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=poisoning" title=" poisoning"> poisoning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sinapic%20acid" title=" sinapic acid"> sinapic acid</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88290/protective-effects-of-sinapic-acid-on-organophosphate-poisoning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88290.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2917</span> Developing a Translator Career Path: Based on the Dreyfus Model of Skills Acquisition</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noha%20A.%20Alowedi">Noha A. In this qualitative study, the methodology to collect and analyze the data takes an inductive approach that draws upon the literature to form the criteria for the different steps in the TCP. This path is based on descriptors of expert translator performance and best employees’ practice documented in the literature. Each translator skill will be graded as novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert. Consequently, five levels of translator performance are identified in the TCP as five ranks. The first rank is the intern translator, which is equivalent to the novice level; the second rank is the assistant translator, which is equivalent to the advanced beginner level; the third rank is the associate translator, which is equivalent to the competent level; the fourth rank is the translator, which is equivalent to the proficient level; finally, the fifth rank is the expert translator, which is equivalent to the expert level. The main function of this career path is to guide the processes of translator development in translation organizations. Although it is designed primarily for the need of in-house translators’ supervisors, the TCP can be used in academic settings for translation trainers and teachers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dreyfus%20model" title="Dreyfus model">Dreyfus model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=translation%20organization" title=" translation organization"> translation organization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=translator%20career%20path" title=" translator career path"> translator career path</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=translator%20development" title=" translator development"> translator development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=translator%20evaluation" title=" translator evaluation"> translator evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=translator%20promotion" title=" translator promotion"> translator promotion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46856/developing-a-translator-career-path-based-on-the-dreyfus-model-of-skills-acquisition" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46856.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">374</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2916</span> The Keys to Innovation: Defining and Evaluating Attributes that Measure Innovation Capabilities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Samarah">Mohammad Samarah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benjamin%20Stark"> Benjamin Stark</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jennifer%20Kindle"> Jennifer Kindle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Langley%20Payton"> Langley Payton</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Innovation is a key driver for companies, society, and economic growth. However, assessing and measuring innovation for individuals as well as organizations remains difficult. Our i5-Score presented in this study will help to overcome this difficulty and facilitate measuring the innovation potential. The score is based on a framework we call the 5Gs of innovation which defines specific innovation attributes. Those are 1) the drive for long-term goals 2) the audacity to generate new ideas, 3) the openness to share ideas with others, 4) the ability to grow, and 5) the ability to maintain high levels of optimism. To validate the i5-Score, we conducted a study at Florida Polytechnic University. The results show that the i5-Score is a good measure reflecting the innovative mindset of an individual or a group. Thus, the score can be utilized for evaluating, refining and enhancing innovation capabilities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Change%20Management" title="Change Management">Change Management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Innovation%20Attributes" title=" Innovation Attributes"> Innovation Attributes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Organizational%20Development" title=" Organizational Development"> Organizational Development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=STEM%20and%20Venture%20Creation" title=" STEM and Venture Creation"> STEM and Venture Creation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100675/the-keys-to-innovation-defining-and-evaluating-attributes-that-measure-innovation-capabilities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100675.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">168</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2915</span> Predicting Financial Distress in South Africa</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nikki%20Berrange">Nikki Berrange</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gizelle%20Willows"> Gizelle Willows</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Business rescue has become increasingly popular since its inclusion in the Companies Act of South Africa in May 2011. The study found that Taffler’s Z-score model had a greater ability at predicting financial distress from all three-time horizons. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Altman%E2%80%99s%20ZEM-score" title="Altman’s ZEM-score">Altman’s ZEM-score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Altman%E2%80%99s%20Z-score" title=" Altman’s Z-score"> Altman’s Z-score</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AltX" title=" AltX"> AltX</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20rescue" title=" business rescue"> business rescue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taffler%E2%80%99s%20Z-score" title=" Taffler’s Z-score"> Taffler’s Z-score</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46353/predicting-financial-distress-in-south-africa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46353.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">372</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2914</span> The Nature of Mineralizing Fluids in the Hammam Zriba Deposit (F-Ba-Sr-Pb-Zn) in North-eastern Tunisia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Miladi%20Yasmine">Miladi Yasmine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bouhlel%20Salah"> Bouhlel Salah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Banks"> David Banks</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Hammam Zriba (F-Ba-Sr-Pb-Zn) ore deposits of the Zaghouan district are located in northeast Tunisia, 60 Km south of Tunis. The host rocks belong to the Ressas Formation (Tithonian age) and lower Cretaceous layers. Mineralization occurs as stratiform replacement heaps and lenses. The mineral assemblage is composed of fluorite, barite, sphalerite, and galena. Primary fluid inclusions in sphalerite have homogenization temperatures ranging from 83 to 140°C, final melting temperature range from −18 to −7.0, corresponding to salinities of 5 to 21 wt % NaCl equivalent. Fluid inclusions in fluorite homogenize to the liquid phase between 132 and 178°C. Final ice melting temperatures range from −25 to −6.8 °C, corresponding to salinities between 17 and 24 wt% NaCl Equivalent. The LA-ICP-MS analyses of the fluid inclusions in fluorite show that these fluids are dominated by Na>Ca>K>Mg, with the concentration of Fe being equivalent to that of Mg. Microthermometric analyses of the fluid inclusions observed in fluorite and sphalerite show that two distinct fluids were involved in the mineralization deposition: a warmer saline fluid (132-178°C, 17-24 wt % NaCl equivalent) and cooler saline fluid (83°C-140, 5-21 wt %NaCl equivalent). The ore fluid result from highly saline and Na-Ca dominated with lower Mg concentrations come from the leaching of the dolomitic host rocks by the fluids. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hammam%20Zriba" title="Hammam Zriba ">Hammam Zriba </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluid%20inclusions" title=" fluid inclusions"> fluid inclusions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LA-ICP-MS" title=" LA-ICP-MS"> LA-ICP-MS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zaghouan%20district" title=" Zaghouan district"> Zaghouan district</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149849/the-nature-of-mineralizing-fluids-in-the-hammam-zriba-deposit-f-ba-sr-pb-zn-in-north-eastern-tunisia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149849.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">103</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2913</span> The Play Translator’s Score Developing: Methodology for Intercultural Communication</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akhmylovskaia%20Larisa">Akhmylovskaia Larisa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Barysh%20Andriana"> Barysh Andriana</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present paper is introducing the translation score developing methodology and methods in the cross-cultural communication. The features are extracted from the pre processed images of iris and fingerprint. These features of a query image are compared with those of a database image to obtain matching scores. The individual scores generated after matching are passed to the fusion module. This module consists of three major steps i.e., normalization, generation of similarity score and fusion of weighted scores. The final score is then used to declare the person as genuine or an impostor. The system is tested on CASIA database and gives an overall accuracy of 91.04% with FAR of 2.58% and FRR of 8.34%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
