(Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for Coachella)</p></div> <p>Among the many star-studded music line-ups announced each year, Coachella’s is coveted by festival-goers across the country.</p> <p>But the $375 general admission can be too expensive for many — college students likely being at the top of that list.</p> <p>But if you are a SiriusXM subscriber, you are in luck this year. Starting Friday at 2 p.m., <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150410175453/https://www.coachella.com/" target="_blank">The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival</a> will be streamed live on the radio for the first time. The satellite service will air performances from Jack White, Interpol, Hozier, Alt-J and Vance Joy, among other artists.</p> <p>Streaming live performances may not be the same as seeing live performances, but it alleviates the disappointment for some too-broke-to-go college students.</p> <p>“The live stream doesn’t exactly make up for not being able to attend,” says Samantha Green, a 24-year-old University of Missouri graduate. “Hearing it on the radio obviously pales in comparison to being able to experience a performance in person. But, on the other hand, being able to listen to it is better than not being able to experience it at all.”</p> <div class="spike">MIXTAPE: <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150410175453/http://college.usatoday.com/2015/04/06/mixtape-monday-coachella-music-festival/" target="_blank">Coachella Music Festival</a></div> <p>An Annual All Access SiriusXM subscription is roughly $200. Green says she’d rather pay year-round and have the benefits of other stations rather than shell out the money for a hotel, food and alcohol on top of a ticket.</p> <p>In some cases, those factors cause festival expenses to skyrocket.</p> <p>“I spent all of my graduation money,” says Savannah Young, a freshman English major at the University of Memphis who went to Coachella last year after graduating from high school. “It was about $1500. But if I had the money to spend, I would definitely go again.”</p> <p>Young, 19, has also traveled to <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150410175453/http://www.wakarusa.com/" target="_blank">Wakarusa</a> and Bonnaroo. Each has a unique aesthetic, and Coachella is no exception, she says. She remembers being surrounded by palm trees and mountains as she traveled through the California valley. Sculptures carved specifically for the festival stood tall.</p> <blockquote><p>“Everything is extravagant,” Young said. “All of the acts perform 110% because they are at Coachella and it’s such a big deal. It’s stunning.”</p></blockquote> <p>A SiriusXM subscription can still connect them part of that “stunning” experience, according to Steve Blatter, the senior vice president and general manager of music programming at SiriusXM.</p> <p>“Not everyone can be there, but there is a nation of potential listeners who would love to hear the performances and catch the vibe of Coachella,” Blatter says. “We can do that for them.”</p> <p>SiriusXM’s smartphone app will allow users to tune in on the go.</p> <p>While SiriusXM is the first to bring Coachella to the radio, they aren’t the first to stream the two-weekend festival. YouTube has live streamed the opening weekend since 2011, and <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150410175453/http://www.axs.tv/" target="_blank">AXS TV</a> has broadcasted the second weekend on television since 2014.</p> <p>“We have more than 27 million subscribers, but we want more,” Blatter says. “And this is the kind of exclusive programming that draws new listeners. With the performances also streamed on our mobile app, you can take this exclusive radio programming wherever you go.”</p> <p>Previously, SiriusXM has streamed performances from Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Governor’s Ball, Ultra Music Fest, Electric Daisy Carnival and Electric Zoo. Coachella is the latest in a line of more to come, according to Blatter.</p> <p>Young first discovered festival live streams while riding around with a friend who was listening to performances from Ultra Music Fest.</p> <p>“I was skeptical,” Young says. “I wouldn’t want the crowd to be so loud that I couldn’t hear what was streaming.”</p> <p>She was pleasantly surprised. And since she can’t return to Coachella this year, SiriusXM will give her an opportunity to reminisce.</p> <p>“I think every festival has it’s own experience,” Young says. “Just streaming takes away from that unique experience you get, but it’s definitely a way for people who can’t afford it to be able to experience it in their own way.”</p> <div class="credit"><a
