Hal Scofield</h2> <div class="row mb-3"> <div class="col col-sm-12"> <p> Arthritis & Clinical Immunology Program, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA </p> <h5 class="border-bottom-1 pb-2">Biography</h5> <p><p>Dr. Scofield's contributions have been recognized with several honors, including the Shannon Director’s Award from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) in 2001 and the Ethel Baxter Award for Outstanding Sjögren’s Syndrome Abstract from the American College of Rheumatology in 2004. He has also served as the Associate Chief of Staff for Research at the Oklahoma City Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. R. Hal Scofield is a distinguished immunologist and clinical researcher at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. He serves as a Professor in the Arthritis and Clinical Immunology Research Program and holds adjunct professorships in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Scofield earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1984. He joined OMRF's scientific staff in 1991, focusing his research on autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren's syndrome. His work aims to understand the immunological mechanisms underlying these conditions and to develop improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Throughout his career, Dr. Scofield has authored over 250 publications, contributing significantly to the fields of immunology and rheumatology. His research has been instrumental in identifying genetic and environmental factors that influence autoimmune disease susceptibility and progression. Thyroid ultrasound is widely used to stratify the risk of malignancy of thyroid nodules and aid decision-making about whether fine needle aspiration biopsy is indicated using the Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TIRADS). We undertook this study to determine incidence of thyroid cancer in an older, most male population referred for evaluation of a thyroid nodule at a US veterans medical center. Methods: We performed a retrospective study of all patients undergoing evaluation of a thyroid nodule at the Oklahoma City US Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
