So, I decided to focus on how spatial experiences are created in Apple’s Vision OS. Even though I didn’t have AR lenses😣, I was determined to know what design principles are applied in this area.</p><blockquote class="nl nm nn"><p id="611d" class="mn mo no mp b mq mr ms mt mu mv mw mx my mz na nb nc nd ne nf ng nh ni nj nk gn bk">Spatial design refers to the arrangement of elements within physical or virtual space to create a cohesive and functional environment. In the context of user interface (UI) design for Apple Vision OS spatial design involves organizing digital elements within a 3D space to enhance user interaction and <a class="af np" href="https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/immersive-experiences" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">immersion.</a></p></blockquote><p id="b46e" class="pw-post-body-paragraph mn mo gu mp b mq mr ms mt mu mv mw mx my mz na nb nc nd ne nf ng nh ni nj nk gn bk">Before delving into designing, it was crucial to learn about the characteristics that the device has to offer. It is unique in that it requires <strong class="mp gv">eyes, hands(gestures) and voice</strong> to operate.</p><p id="3d0e" class="pw-post-body-paragraph mn mo gu mp b mq mr ms mt mu mv mw mx my mz na nb nc nd ne nf ng nh ni nj nk gn bk">I read apple’s <a class="af np" href="https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/designing-for-visionos" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">resources</a> and best practices — learned terms such as windows, sheets, popovers, modals, passthrough, vibrancy, direct indirect gestures, and more.</p><p id="2849" class="pw-post-body-paragraph mn mo gu mp b mq mr ms mt mu mv mw mx my mz na nb nc nd ne nf ng nh ni nj nk gn bk"><strong class="mp gv">When I attempted to apply this knowledge using Figma, I was uncertain where to start.⁉</strong></p><p id="8bff" class="pw-post-body-paragraph mn mo gu mp b mq mr ms mt mu mv mw mx my mz na nb nc nd ne nf ng nh ni nj nk gn bk">I utilized the community Figma file containing all the elements and components used by Apple, which provided invaluable insights into toolbars, sidebars, materials, colors, icons and more..</p><p id="fb69" class="pw-post-body-paragraph mn mo gu mp b mq mr ms mt mu mv mw mx my mz na nb nc nd ne nf ng nh ni nj nk gn bk">Apple utilizes the concept of windows which are the canvas users interact with. Its UI components are made of a glass material visual style, featuring a blur effect, thin strokes and shadows to create depth. Users can have multiple windows.</li><li id="f335" class="mn mo gu mp b mq oe ms mt mu of mw mx my og na nb nc oh ne nf ng oi ni nj nk ob oc od bk">Sheets: These are temporary UI overlays that provide supplementary <strong class="mp gv">information, settings, or alerts</strong> without completely obstructing the underlying content.</li><li id="6dbb" class="mn mo gu mp b mq oe ms mt mu of mw mx my og na nb nc oh ne nf ng oi ni nj nk ob oc od bk">Modals: Modals can appear as immersive windows or<strong class="mp gv"> pop-up dialogs</strong> within the virtual environment, prompting users to take specific actions or provide detailed information in a focused manner.</li><li id="49b4" class="mn mo gu mp b mq oe ms mt mu of mw mx my og na nb nc oh ne nf ng oi ni nj nk ob oc od bk">Tab Bar: Position vertically on the left side with up to six items.
