ORCID member organizations can incorporate ORCID identifiers into their workflows, such as grant application processes and progress reporting protocols, in order to reduce administrative burden and to improve accuracy.</p> <p>Integrate ORCID into several different workflows. Common integration points include:</p> <ul><li>Application: Collect applicant ORCID iDs as part of the application process</li> <li>Review: Collect reviewer ORCID iDs as part of the review process</li> <li>Award: Give grantees and reviewers credit by posting award information to their ORCID records</li> <li>Post-award: Pull information from ORCID to support post-award reporting<br/> </li> </ul><hr/><h2 id="application"><strong>Application:</strong> Collect applicants' iDs & biographical information</h2> <hr/><p>Funders can integrate ORCID into their existing application system in order to collect authenticated ORCID iDs and to gain permission to read from/write to applicants' ORCID records either immediately, or in the future. ORCID identifiers that you collect can be used in your local systems to uniquely identify applicants, and ORCID Record information, such as name, education, and current affiliation, can be used to populate applicants' profiles in your system.</p> <p>Collecting ORCID iDs and permission to read from/write to ORCID Records involves prompting applicants to sign into ORCID and retrieving data from the ORCID registry using the ORCID API. You can do this by offering ORCID as a sign-in option (see: <a href="/web/20170104061608/http://members.orcid.org/orcid-sign-in">Member flow: Sign in using ORCID credentials</a>), or by allowing applicants to connect their ORCID account from within your system.</p> <p>To let applicants connect their ORCID account from within your system:</p> <ol><li>Provide a button/link your application form that prompts the PI to connect their ORCID Record. The work of reviewers can be acknowledged by adding a similar entry to their ORCID records.</p> <p>Adding information to ORCID records involves sending XML or JSON data to the ORCID Registry using the ORCID API. Doing this requires that you've collected ORCID iDs as well as read/write permission from the grantees and reviewers whose ORCID records you'd like to edit by following the steps described above in <a href="#application">Application</a> and <a href="#review">Review.</a></p> <p>The steps to add funding information to grantee and reviewer ORCID records include:</p> <ol><li>Use the ORCID iDs and access tokens you have stored to post award information to grantees' ORCID Records (see <a href="api/tutorial-add-activities-curl-12-and-earlier" target="_blank">Tutorial: Add Activities</a>).
