Organizations are trying to achieve the goals of improvement in environment, low cost, high quality, flexibility and more customer satisfaction. Performance measurement frameworks are very useful to monitor the performance of any organization. The basic goal of this paper is to identify performance measures and ranking of these performance measures of GSCM performance measurement towards sustainability framework. Five perspectives (Environment, Economic, Social, Operational and Cost performances) and nineteen performance measures of GSCM performance towards sustainability have been have been identified from extensive literature review. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique has been utilized for ranking of these performance perspectives and measures. All pair comparisons in AHP have been made on the basis on the experts’ opinions (selected from academia and industry). Ranking of these performance perspectives and measures will help to understand the importance of environmental, economic, social, operational performances, and cost performances in the supply chain. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analytical%20hierarchy%20process" title="analytical hierarchy process">analytical hierarchy process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=green%20supply%20chain%20management" title=" green supply chain management"> green supply chain management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20measures" title=" performance measures"> performance measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title=" sustainability"> sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5172/ranking-of-performance-measures-of-gscm-towards-sustainability-using-analytic-hierarchy-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5172.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">519</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15871</span> A Tool for Assessing Performance and Structural Quality of Business Process</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mariem%20Kchaou">Mariem Kchaou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wiem%20Khlif"> Wiem Khlif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faiez%20Gargouri"> Faiez Gargouri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Modeling business processes is an essential task when evaluating, improving, or documenting existing business processes. To be efficient in such tasks, a business process model (BPM) must have high structural quality and high performance. Evidently, evaluating the performance of a business process model is a necessary step to reduce time, cost, while assessing the structural quality aims to improve the understandability and the modifiability of the BPMN model. To achieve these objectives, a set of structural and performance measures have been proposed. Since the diversity of measures, we propose a framework that integrates both structural and performance aspects for classifying them. Our measure classification is based on business process model perspectives (e.g., informational, functional, organizational, behavioral, and temporal), and the elements (activity, event, actor, etc.) involved in computing the measures. Then, we implement this framework in a tool assisting the structural quality and the performance of a business process. The tool helps the designers to select an appropriate subset of measures associated with the corresponding perspective and to calculate and interpret their values in order to improve the structural quality and the performance of the model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance" title="performance">performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural%20quality" title=" structural quality"> structural quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=perspectives" title=" perspectives"> perspectives</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tool" title=" tool"> tool</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=classification%20framework" title=" classification framework"> classification framework</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=measures" title=" measures"> measures</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120242/a-tool-for-assessing-performance-and-structural-quality-of-business-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120242.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15870</span> A Review of Physiological Measures for Cognitive Workload Assessment of Aircrew</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naveed%20Tahir">Naveed Tahir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adnan%20Maqsood"> Adnan Maqsood</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cognitive workload is a significant factor affecting user performance, and it has been broadly investigated for its application in ergonomics as well as in designing and optimizing effective human-machine interactions. It is mentally challenging to maneuver an aircraft, and pilots must control the aircraft and adequately communicate to the verbal-auditory stimuli. Several physiological measures have long been researched and used to demonstrate the cognitive workload. In our current study, we have summarized recent findings of the effectiveness, accuracy, and applicability of commonly used physiological measures in evaluating cognitive workload. We have also highlighted on the advancements in physiological measures. The strength and limitations of physiological measures have also been discussed to assess the cognitive workload of people, especially the aircrews in laboratory settings and real-time situations. We have presented the research findings of the physiological measures to base suggestions on the proper applications of the measures and settings demanding the use of single measure or their combinations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aircrew" title="aircrew">aircrew</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20workload" title=" cognitive workload"> cognitive workload</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subjective%20measure" title=" subjective measure"> subjective measure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physiological%20measure" title=" physiological measure"> physiological measure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20measure" title=" performance measure"> performance measure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137265/a-review-of-physiological-measures-for-cognitive-workload-assessment-of-aircrew" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137265.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">162</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15869</span> A Post-Occupancy Evaluation of LEED-Certified Residential Communities Using Structural Equation Modeling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohsen%20Goodarzi">Mohsen Goodarzi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=George%20Berghorn"> George Berghorn</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Despite the rapid growth in the number of green building and community development projects, the long-term performance of these projects has not yet been sufficiently evaluated from the users’ points of view. This is partially due to the lack of post-occupancy evaluation tools available for this type of project. In this study, a post-construction evaluation model is developed to evaluate the relationship between the perceived performance and satisfaction of residents in LEED-certified residential buildings and communities. To develop this evaluation model, a primary five-factor model was developed based on the existing models and residential satisfaction theories. Each factor of the model included several measures that were adopted from LEED certification systems such as LEED-BD+C New Construction, LEED-BD+C Multifamily Midrise, LEED-ND, as well as the UC Berkeley’s Center for the Built Environment survey tool. The model included four predictor variables (factors), including perceived building performance (8 measures), perceived infrastructure performance (9 measures), perceived neighborhood design (6 measures), and perceived economic performance (4 measures), and one dependent variable (factor), which was residential satisfaction (6 measures). An online survey was then conducted to collect the data from the residents of LEED-certified residential communities (n=192) and the validity of the model was tested through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). After modifying the CFA model, 26 measures, out of the initial 33 measures, were retained to enter into a Structural Equation Model (SEM) and to find the relationships between the perceived buildings performance, infrastructure performance, neighborhood design, economic performance and residential Satisfaction. The results of the SEM showed that the perceived building performance was the most influential factor in determining residential satisfaction in LEED-certified communities, followed by the perceived neighborhood design. On the other hand, perceived infrastructure performance and perceived economic performance did not show any significant relationship with residential satisfaction in these communities. This study can benefit green building researchers by providing a model for the evaluation of the long-term performance of these projects. It can also provide opportunities for green building practitioners to determine priorities for future residential development projects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=green%20building" title="green building">green building</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=residential%20satisfaction" title=" residential satisfaction"> residential satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=perceived%20performance" title=" perceived performance"> perceived performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=confirmatory%20factor%20analysis" title=" confirmatory factor analysis"> confirmatory factor analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural%20equation%20modeling" title=" structural equation modeling"> structural equation modeling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141592/a-post-occupancy-evaluation-of-leed-certified-residential-communities-using-structural-equation-modeling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141592.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">239</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15868</span> The Impact of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Adoption on Performance’s Measure: A Study of UK Companies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Javad%20Izadi">Javad Izadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sahar%20Majioud"> Sahar Majioud</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study presents an approach of assessing the choice of performance measures of companies in the United Kingdom after the application of IFRS in 2005. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of IFRS on the choice of performance evaluation methods for UK companies. We analyse through an econometric model the relationship of the dependent variable, the firm’s performance, which is a nominal variable with the independent ones. Independent variables are split into two main groups: the first one is the group of accounting-based measures: Earning per share, return on assets and return on equities. The second one is the group of market-based measures: market value of property plant and equipment, research and development, sales growth, market to book value, leverage, segment and size of companies. Concerning the regression used, it is a multinomial logistic regression performed on a sample of 130 UK listed companies. Our finding shows after IFRS adoption, and companies give more importance to some variables such as return on equities and sales growth to assess their performance, whereas the return on assets and market to book value ratio does not have as much importance as before IFRS in evaluating the performance of companies. Also, there are some variables that have no impact on the performance measures anymore, such as earning per share. This article finding is empirically important for business in subjects related to IFRS and companies’ performance measurement. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%E2%80%99s%20Measure" title="performance’s Measure">performance’s Measure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nominal%20variable" title=" nominal variable"> nominal variable</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=econometric%20model" title=" econometric model"> econometric model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=evaluation%20methods" title=" evaluation methods"> evaluation methods</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146743/the-impact-of-international-financial-reporting-standards-ifrs-adoption-on-performances-measure-a-study-of-uk-companies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146743.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">138</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15867</span> Operational Measures for Greenhouse Gas Reduction from Ships</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gorana%20Jelic%20Mrcelic">Gorana Jelic Mrcelic</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships, technical and operational measures can be used. Operational measures are easier and cheaper compared to technical measures, so are well recommended. One of the most cost-effective operational measure is fuel consumption. Fuel consumption can be reduced by various options but it sometimes needs investments in new equipment, new procedures and crew education. In order to implement operational measures in everyday procedures and routines on board, good understanding of the mechanisms by which these measures work is essential for the seamen. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=green%20shipping" title="green shipping">green shipping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gas%20emission%20reduction" title=" gas emission reduction"> gas emission reduction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=operational%20measures" title=" operational measures"> operational measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seamen" title=" seamen"> seamen</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20223/operational-measures-for-greenhouse-gas-reduction-from-ships" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20223.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">516</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15866</span> Development of a Rating Scale for Elementary EFL Writing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20S.%20Assiri">Mohammed S. Intuition-based scales tend to provide inaccurate and divisive ratings of learners’ writing performance. Hence, following an empirical approach, this study attempted to develop a rating scale for elementary-level writing at an EFL program in Saudi Arabia. Towards this goal, 98 students’ essays were scored and then coded using comprehensive taxonomy of writing constructs and their measures. An automatic linear modeling was run to find out which measures would best predict essay scores. A nonparametric ANOVA, the Kruskal-Wallis test, was then used to determine which measures could best differentiate among scoring levels. Findings indicated that there were certain measures that could serve as either good predictors of essay scores or differentiators among scoring levels, or both. The main conclusion was that a rating scale can be empirically developed using predictive and discriminative statistical tests. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analytic%20scoring" title="analytic scoring">analytic scoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rating%20scales" title=" rating scales"> rating scales</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=writing%20assessment" title=" writing assessment"> writing assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=writing%20constructs" title=" writing constructs"> writing constructs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=writing%20performance" title=" writing performance"> writing performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16785/development-of-a-rating-scale-for-elementary-efl-writing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16785.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">463</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15865</span> Dynamic vs. Static Bankruptcy Prediction Models: A Dynamic Performance Evaluation Framework</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Mahdi%20Mousavi">Mohammad Mahdi Mousavi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Bankruptcy prediction models have been implemented for continuous evaluation and monitoring of firms. With the huge number of bankruptcy models, an extensive number of studies have focused on answering the question that which of these models are superior in performance. In practice, one of the drawbacks of existing comparative studies is that the relative assessment of alternative bankruptcy models remains an exercise that is mono-criterion in nature. Further, a very restricted number of criteria and measure have been applied to compare the performance of competing bankruptcy prediction models. In this research, we overcome these methodological gaps through implementing an extensive range of criteria and measures for comparison between dynamic and static bankruptcy models, and through proposing a multi-criteria framework to compare the relative performance of bankruptcy models in forecasting firm distress for UK firms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bankruptcy%20prediction" title="bankruptcy prediction">bankruptcy prediction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20envelopment%20analysis" title=" data envelopment analysis"> data envelopment analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20criteria" title=" performance criteria"> performance criteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20measures" title=" performance measures"> performance measures</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52050/dynamic-vs-static-bankruptcy-prediction-models-a-dynamic-performance-evaluation-framework" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52050.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">248</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15864</span> The Effect of COVID-19 Transmission, Lockdown Measures, and Vaccination on Stock Market Returns</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Belhouchet%20Selma">Belhouchet Selma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ben%20Amar%20Anis"> Ben Amar Anis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We examine the impact of COVID-19 transmission, containment measures, and vaccination growth on daily stock market returns for the G7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States) from January 22, 2020, to August 31, 2021, more than a year and a half after COVID-19. For this objective, we use panel pooled ordinary least squares regressions. Our findings indicate that the spread of the pandemic has a negative impact on the daily performance of the world's seven main stock markets. Government measures to improve stock market returns are no longer successful. Furthermore, our findings demonstrate that immunization efforts in G7 nations do not increase stock market performance in these countries. A variety of robustness tests back up our conclusions. Our findings have far-reaching implications for investors, governments, and regulators not only in the G7 countries but also in all developed countries and all countries globally. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID-19" title="COVID-19">COVID-19</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G7%20stock%20market" title=" G7 stock market"> G7 stock market</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=containment%20measures" title=" containment measures"> containment measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vaccination" title=" vaccination"> vaccination</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155046/the-effect-of-covid-19-transmission-lockdown-measures-and-vaccination-on-stock-market-returns" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155046.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">100</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15863</span> Empirical Exploration of Correlations between Software Design Measures: A Replication Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jehad%20Al%20Dallal">Jehad Al Dallal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Software engineers apply different measures to quantify the quality of software design. These measures consider artifacts developed at low or high level software design phases. The results are used to point to design weaknesses and to indicate design points that have to be restructured. Understanding the relationship among the quality measures and among the design quality aspects considered by these measures is important to interpreting the impact of a measure for a quality aspect on other potentially related aspects. In addition, exploring the relationship between quality measures helps to explain the impact of different quality measures on external quality aspects, such as reliability and maintainability. In this paper, we report a replication study that empirically explores the correlation between six well known and commonly applied design quality measures. These measures consider several quality aspects, including complexity, cohesion, coupling, and inheritance. The results indicate that inheritance measures are weakly correlated to other measures, whereas complexity, coupling, and cohesion measures are mostly strongly correlated. &nbsp; <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20attribute" title="quality attribute">quality attribute</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20measure" title=" quality measure"> quality measure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=software%20design%20quality" title=" software design quality"> software design quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Spearman%20correlation" title=" Spearman correlation"> Spearman correlation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77694/empirical-exploration-of-correlations-between-software-design-measures-a-replication-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77694.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">299</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15862</span> The Impact of Regulation on Corporate Social Responsibility Reporting Quality: UK Evidence</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ruba%20Hamed">Ruba Hamed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20Hussainey"> Khaled Hussainey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Basiem%20Al-Shattarat"> Basiem Al-Shattarat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wasim%20Al-Shattarat"> Wasim Al-Shattarat</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper examines how the influence of mandating corporate social responsibility reporting (CSR) on subsequent financial performance through accounting-based measures and market-based measures. While new buildings must have high energy performance as indicated by the Energy Performance Directive in Buildings (EPBD), published by the European Union (EU), the energy performance of the existing buildings must also be enhanced with cost-efficient methods. Turkey has a high historical building density similar to south European countries, and the high energy consumption is the main contributor in the energy consumptioın of Turkey, which is rather higher than European counterparts. Historic buildings spread around Turkey for four main climate zones covering very similar climate characteristics to both the north and south European countries. The case study building is determined as the most common building type in Turkey. This study aims to investigate energy retrofit measures covering but not limited to passive and active measures to improve the energy performance of the historical buildings located in different climatic zones within the limits of preservation of the historical value of the building as a crucial constraint. Passive measures include wall, window, and roof construction elements, and active measures HVAC systems in retrofit scenarios. The proposed methodology can help to reach up to 30% energy saving based on primary energy consumption. DesignBuilder, an energy simulation tool, is used to determine the energy performance of buildings with suggested retrofit measures, and the Net Present Value (NPV) method is used for cost analysis of them. Finally, the most efficient energy retrofit measures for all buildings are determined by analyzing primary energy consumption and the cost performance of them. Results show that heat insulation, glazing type, and HVAC system has an important role in energy saving. Also, it found that these parameters have a different positive or negative effect on building energy consumption in different climate zones. For instance, low e glazing has a positive impact on the energy performance of the building in the first zone, while it has a negative effect on the building in the forth zone. Another important result is applying heat insulation has minimum impact on building energy performance compared to other zones. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20performance" title="energy performance">energy performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climatic%20zones" title=" climatic zones"> climatic zones</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=historic%20building" title=" historic building"> historic building</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20retrofit%20measures" title=" energy retrofit measures"> energy retrofit measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NPV" title=" NPV"> NPV</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111368/methodological-approach-for-historical-building-retrofit-based-on-energy-and-cost-analysis-in-the-different-climatic-zones" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111368.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">174</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15860</span> Empirical Study of Partitions Similarity Measures</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Alfalah">Abdelkrim Alfalah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lahcen%20Ouarbya"> Lahcen Ouarbya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Howroyd"> John Howroyd</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper investigates and compares the performance of four existing distances and similarity measures between partitions. Lowering fuel consumption is possible for both new ships and existing ships through enhanced energy efficiency measures, technical and operational respectively. The limitations of applying technical measures due to the long payback duration raise the potential of operational changes for energy efficient ship operations. This study identifies operational energy efficiency measures related voyage performance management. We use ‘noon’ data to examine the correlation between fuel consumption and operational parameters- revolutions per minute (RPM), draft, trim, (beaufort number) BN and relative wind direction, which are used as measures of ship energy efficiency. The results of this study reveal that speed optimization is the most efficient method as fuel consumption depends heavily on RPM. In conclusion, this study will provide ship operators with the strategic approach for evaluating the priority of the operational energy efficiency measures against high fuel prices and carbon emissions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ship" title="ship">ship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=voyage%20related%20operational%20energy%20Efficiency%20measures" title=" voyage related operational energy Efficiency measures"> voyage related operational energy Efficiency measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuel%20consumption" title=" fuel consumption"> fuel consumption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pearson%27s%20correlation%20coef%EF%AC%81cient" title=" pearson&#039;s correlation coefficient "> pearson&#039;s correlation coefficient </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25303/correlation-between-fuel-consumption-and-voyage-related-ship-operational-energy-efficiency-measures-an-analysis-from-noon-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25303.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">616</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15857</span> Performance Evaluation and Planning for Road Safety Measures Using Data Envelopment Analysis and Fuzzy Decision Making</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamid%20Reza%20Behnood">Hamid Reza Behnood</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esmaeel%20Ayati"> Esmaeel Ayati</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tom%20Brijs"> Tom Brijs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammadali%20Pirayesh%20Neghab"> Mohammadali Pirayesh Neghab</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Investment projects in road safety planning can benefit from an effectiveness evaluation regarding their expected safety outcomes. The objective of this study is to develop a decision support system (DSS) to support policymakers in taking the right choice in road safety planning based on the efficiency of previously implemented safety measures in a set of regions in Iran. The measures considered for each region in the study include performance indicators about (1) police operations, (2) treated black spots, (3) freeway and highway facility supplies, (4) speed control cameras, (5) emergency medical services, and (6) road lighting projects. To this end, inefficiency measure is calculated, defined by the proportion of fatality rates in relation to the combined measure of road safety performance indicators (i.e., road safety measures) which should be minimized. The relative inefficiency for each region is modeled by the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique. In a next step, a fuzzy decision-making system is constructed to convert the information obtained from the DEA analysis into a rule-based system that can be used by policy makers to evaluate the expected outcomes of certain alternative investment strategies in road safety. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20indicators" title="performance indicators">performance indicators</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=road%20safety" title=" road safety"> road safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decision%20support%20system" title=" decision support system"> decision support system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20envelopment%20analysis" title=" data envelopment analysis"> data envelopment analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20reasoning" title=" fuzzy reasoning"> fuzzy reasoning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82137/performance-evaluation-and-planning-for-road-safety-measures-using-data-envelopment-analysis-and-fuzzy-decision-making" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82137.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">352</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15856</span> The Effect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Ratings on Financial Performance: Evidence from MENA Countries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taha%20Almarayhe">Taha Almarayhe</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study addresses the gap in understanding the effect of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices on firm performance within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. A survey was therefore conducted using the dimensions of the Learning Organization Questionnaire (DLOQ), followed by factor analysis and structural equation modeling in order to investigate the dynamics between learning organization practices and adaptive performance. Results confirm that adaptive performance is indeed one important dimension of organizational performance. The study also shows that perceived knowledge and adaptive performance mediate the positive relationship between the practices of a learning organization with perceived financial performance. We extend existing DLOQ research by demonstrating that adaptive performance, as a nonfinancial organizational learning outcome, has a significant impact on financial performance. Our study also provides additional validation of the measures of DLOQ's performance. Indeed, organizations need to take a glance at how the activities of learning and development can provide better overall improvement in performance, especially in enhancing adaptive capability. The study has provided requisite empirical support that activities of learning and development within organizations allow much-improved intangible performance outcomes, especially through adaptive performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adaptive%20performance" title="adaptive performance">adaptive performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuous%20learning" title=" continuous learning"> continuous learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20performance" title=" financial performance"> financial performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leadership%20style" title=" leadership style"> leadership style</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organizational%20learning" title=" organizational learning"> organizational learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organizational%20performance" title=" organizational performance"> organizational performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/191916/enhancing-organizational-performance-through-adaptive-learning-a-case-study-of-asml" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/191916.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">27</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15854</span> The Delone and McLean Model: A Review and Reconceptualisation for Explaining Organisational IS Success</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Probir%20Kumar%20Banerjee">Probir Kumar Banerjee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Though the revised DeLone and McLean (DM) model of IS success is found to be effective at the individual level of analysis, there is lack of consensus in regard to its effectiveness at the organisational level. Specifically, arguments are made for augmenting it with business process quality. Business process quality, it is argued, captures the effect of intent to use, use and user satisfaction interactions, thus eliminating the need to capture their interaction effects in explaining organisational IS success. It is also argued that ‘operational performance’ driven by systems and business process quality, and higher order measures of organisational performance tied to operational performance are appropriate measures of ‘net benefit’. It is evaluated that the most appropriate method for preventing the cyber vulnerabilities rather than existing measures are to develop institutional measures. This study examines the cyber security measures to be taken, especially in the national institutions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyber%20defence" title="cyber defence">cyber defence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information" title=" information"> information</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=critical%20infrastructure" title=" critical infrastructure"> critical infrastructure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=security" title=" security"> security</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26126/a-holistic-approach-to-institutional-cyber-security" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26126.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">537</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15852</span> Pathological Gambling and Impulsivity: Comparison of the Eight Laboratory Measures of Inhibition Capacities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Semion%20Kertzman">Semion Kertzman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pinhas%20Dannon"> Pinhas Dannon</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Impulsive behaviour and the underlying brain processes are hypothesized to be central in the development and maintenance of pathological gambling. Inhibition ability can be differentially impaired in pathological gamblers (PGs). Aims: This study aimed to compare the ability of eight widely used inhibition measures to discriminate between PGs and healthy controls (HCs). Methods: PGs (N=51) and demographically matched HCs (N=51) performed cognitive inhibition (the Stroop), motor inhibition (the Go/NoGo) and reflective inhibition (the Matching Familiar Figures (MFFT)) tasks. Results: An augmented total interference response time in the Stroop task (η² =0.054), a large number of commission errors (η² =0.053) in the Go/NoGo task, and the total number of errors in the MFFT (η² =0.05) can discriminate PGs from HCs. Other measures are unable to differentiate between PGs and HCs. No significant correlations were observed between inhibition measures. Conclusion: Inhibition measures varied in the ability to discriminate PGs from HCs. Most inhibition measures were not relevant to gambling behaviour. PGs do not express rash, impulsive behaviour, such as quickly choosing an answer without thinking. In contrast, in PGs, inhibition impairment was related to slow-inaccurate performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pathological%20gambling" title="pathological gambling">pathological gambling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impulsivity" title=" impulsivity"> impulsivity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neurocognition" title=" neurocognition"> neurocognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=addiction" title=" addiction"> addiction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54541/pathological-gambling-and-impulsivity-comparison-of-the-eight-laboratory-measures-of-inhibition-capacities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54541.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">302</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15851</span> Analysis on the Building Energy Performance of a Retrofitted Residential Building with RETScreen Expert Software</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdulhameed%20Babatunde%20Owolabi">Abdulhameed Babatunde Owolabi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benyoh%20Emmanuel%20Kigha%20Nsafon"> Benyoh Emmanuel Kigha Nsafon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeung-Soo%20Huh"> Jeung-Soo Huh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Energy efficiency measures for residential buildings in South Korea is a national issue because most of the apartments built in the last decades were constructed without proper energy efficiency measures making the energy performance of old buildings to be very poor when compared with new buildings. However, the adoption of advanced building technologies and regulatory building codes are effective energy efficiency strategies for new construction. There is a need to retrofits the existing building using energy conservation measures (ECMs) equipment’s in order to conserve energy and reduce GHGs emissions. To achieve this, the Institute for Global Climate Change and Energy (IGCCE), Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, South Korea employed RETScreen Expert software to carry out measurement and verification (M&V) analysis on an existing building in Korea by using six years gas consumption data collected from Daesung Energy Co., Ltd in order to determine the building energy performance after the introduction of ECM. Through the M&V, energy efficiency is attained, and the resident doubt was reduced. From the analysis, a total of 657 Giga Joules (GJ) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was consumed at the rate of 0.34 GJ/day having a peak in the year 2015, which cost the occupant the sum of $10,821. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficiency" title="energy efficiency">energy efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=measurement%20and%20verification" title=" measurement and verification"> measurement and verification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20analysis" title=" performance analysis"> performance analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RETScreen%20experts" title=" RETScreen experts"> RETScreen experts</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115902/analysis-on-the-building-energy-performance-of-a-retrofitted-residential-building-with-retscreen-expert-software" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115902.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">138</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15850</span> Enablers and Inhibitors of Effective Waste Management Measures in Informal Settlements in South Africa: A Case of Alaska</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lynda%20C.%20Mbadugha">Lynda C. Although studies have evaluated the performance of waste management measures, only a few have addressed that with a focus on South African informal settlements and the reasons for their apparent ineffectiveness in such locations. However, there may be evidence of variations in the extant problems due to the uniqueness of each location and the factors influencing the performance. Thus, there is a knowledge deficit regarding implementing waste management measures in South African informal settlements. This study seeks to evaluate the efficacy of waste management measures in the Alaska informal settlement in South Africa to assess the previously collected data of other areas using the degree of correlation. The research investigated a real-world scenario in the specified location using a case study approach and multiple data sources. The findings described various waste management practices used in Alaska's informal settlements; however, a correlation was found between the performance of these measures and those already used. The observed differences are primarily attributable to the physical characteristics of the locations, the lack of understanding of the environmental and health consequences of careless waste disposal, and the negative attitudes of the residents toward waste management practices. This study elucidates waste management implementation in informal settlements. It contributes to the relevant bodies of knowledge by describing these practices in South Africa. This paper's practical value emphasizes the general waste management characteristics of South Africa's informal settlements to facilitate the planning and provision of necessary interventions. The study concludes that the enablers and inhibitors are mainly political, behavioral, and environmental concerns. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=factors" title="factors">factors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=informal%20settlement" title=" informal settlement"> informal settlement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance" title=" performance"> performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waste%20management" title=" waste management"> waste management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171377/enablers-and-inhibitors-of-effective-waste-management-measures-in-informal-settlements-in-south-africa-a-case-of-alaska" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171377.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">93</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15849</span> Critical Factors of IFRS Adoption in Bank Industries In Middle East Countries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benjamin%20Bae">Benjamin Bae</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study investigates the relationship between the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the performance of banks in a number of Middle East countries. We examine whether performance levels and audit qualities play any role in adopting the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in Middle East banks. This study hypothesizes that, in general, banks with high performance and audit quality measures tend to adopt the IFRS than low-performing banks, as the adoption of a new standard takes lots of time and expenses, which could be an additional burden to them. The results show that three hypotheses are strongly supported whereas the cultural factor hypothesis is not. Banks with high ROA and ROE tend to adopt IFRS than low-performing banks. Big banks are also more likely to adopt IFRS than small or medium-sized banks. Contrary to the hypothesis, the Islamic bank status as a cultural factor has some positive impact on the adoption of the banks in the region. Overall, this research adds to our understanding of the bank’s performance. First, evidence on the relationship between the adoption of IFRS and the bank’s performance should be useful to investors. The existing literature proposes various measures that rely on subjective assessments of game film, but has yet to develop an objective methodology to evaluate performance. Using a variety of statistics related to an offensive lineman’s performance, we develop a framework to objectively analyze the overall performance of an individual offensive lineman and determine specific linemen who are overvalued or undervalued relative to their salary. We identify eight players across the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 NFL seasons that are considered to be overvalued or undervalued and corroborate the results with existing metrics that are based on subjective evaluation. A unique feature of the study is that it analyses firms that use only one form of external funding. Employing Propensity Score Matching, we find that obtaining any form of external finance has a negative influence on equivalents of profit margin and return on assets and a negative influence on asset turnover of small firms. But, the impact of institutional sources of funding on small enterprises is found to be lesser than that of non-institutional sources of funding. External/institutional sources of funding have a less negative impact on the profit margin for medium enterprises and have no significant influence on other measures of performance. The contribution of this research is the discovery of institutional sources wielding a lesser influence on performance measures considered. It is also found that institutional sources can benefit small enterprises more than medium enterprises. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=external%20finance" title="external finance">external finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=institutional%20finance" title=" institutional finance"> institutional finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-institutional%20finance" title=" non-institutional finance"> non-institutional finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance" title=" performance"> performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=India" title=" India"> India</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SME" title=" SME"> SME</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57305/effect-of-financing-sources-on-firm-performance-a-study-of-indian-private-limited-small-and-medium-enterprises" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57305.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">276</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15843</span> Firm Performance and Evolving Corporate Governance: An Empirical Study from Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20Nishat">Mohammed Nishat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Ghazali"> Ahmad Ghazali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study empirically examines the corporate governance and firm performance, and tries to evaluate the governance, ownership and control related variables which are hypothesized to affect on firms performance. This study tries to evaluate the effectiveness of corporate governance mechanism to achieve high level performance among companies listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) over the period from 2005 to 2008. To measure the firm performance level this research uses three measures of performance; Return on assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE) and Tobin’s Q. To link the performance of firms with the corporate governance three categories of corporate governance variables are tested which includes governance, ownership and control related variables. Fixed effect regression model is used to test the link between corporate governance and firm performance for 267 KSE listed Pakistani firms. The result shows that corporate governance variables such as percentage block holding by individuals have positive impact on firm performance. When CEO is also the chairperson of board then it is found that firm performance is adversely affected. Also negative relationship is found between share held by insiders and performance of firm. Leverage has negative impact on the performance of the firm and firm size is positively related with the firms performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
