and against all<MH3605> the gods<MH430> of Egypt<MH4714> I will execute<MH6213a> judgments<MH8201>—I am the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>The blood<MH1818> shall be a sign<MH226> for you on the houses<MH1004> where<MH834, 8033> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>live; and when I see<MH7200> the blood<MH1818> I will pass<MH6452a> over<MH5921> you, and no<MH3808> plague<MH5063> will come<MH1961> upon you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>to destroy<MH7843> <i>you</i> when I strike<MH5221> the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. <p class="hdg">Feast of Unleavened Bread</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>‘Now this<MH2088> day<MH3117> shall be a memorial<MH2146> to you, and you shall celebrate<MH2287> it <i>as</i> a feast<MH2282> to the LORD<MH3068>; throughout your generations<MH1755> you are to celebrate<MH2287> it <i>as</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>a permanent<MH5769> ordinance<MH2708>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For seven<MH7651> days<MH3117> you shall eat<MH398> unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682>, but on the first<MH7223> day<MH3117> you shall remove<MH7673a> dough<MH7603> with<MH7603> yeast<MH7603> from your houses<MH1004>; for whoever<MH3605> eats<MH398> anything<MH4263b> with<MH4263b> yeast<MH4263b>, that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>person<MH5315> shall be cut<MH3772> off<MH3772> from the congregation<MH5712> of Israel<MH3478>, whether <i>he is</i> a stranger<MH1616> or a native<MH249> of the land<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>You shall not eat<MH398> anything<MH3605> with yeast<MH4263b>; in all<MH3605> your dwellings<MH4186> you shall eat<MH398> unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682>.’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> called<MH7121> for all<MH3605> the elders<MH2205> of Israel<MH3478> and said<MH559> to them, “Go<MH4900> and take<MH3947> for yourselves <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>lambs<MH6629> according to your families<MH4940>, and slaughter<MH7819> the Passover<MH6453> <i>lamb.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And you shall take<MH3947> a bunch<MH92> of hyssop<MH231> and dip<MH2881> it in the blood<MH1818> which<MH834> is in the basin<MH5592a>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>apply<MH5060> some<MH4480> of the blood<MH1818> that is in the basin<MH5592a> to the lintel<MH4947> and the two<MH8147> doorposts<MH4201>; and none<MH3808, 376> of you shall go<MH3318> outside<MH3318> the door<MH6607> of his house<MH1004> until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>. <p class="hdg">A Memorial of Redemption</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>For the LORD<MH3068> will pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> to strike<MH5062> the Egyptians<MH4714>; but when He sees<MH7200> the blood<MH1818> on the lintel<MH4947> and on the two<MH8147> doorposts<MH4201>, the LORD<MH3068> will pass<MH6452a> over<MH5921> the door<MH6607> and will not allow<MH5414> the destroyer<MH7843> to come<MH935> in<MH935> to your houses<MH1004> to strike<MH5062> <i>you.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And you shall keep<MH8104> this<MH2088> event<MH1697> as an ordinance<MH2706> for you and your children<MH1121> forever<MH5704, 5769>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>When<MH3588> you enter<MH935> the land<MH776> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> will give<MH5414> you, as He has <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>promised<MH1696>, you shall keep<MH8104> this<MH2088> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>rite<MH5656>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And when your children<MH1121> say<MH559> to you, ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[aa]</a></span>What<MH4100> does this<MH2088> rite<MH5656> mean to you?’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>then you shall say<MH559>, ‘It is a Passover<MH6453> sacrifice<MH2077> to the LORD<MH3068> because<MH834> He<MH834> passed<MH6452a> over<MH5921> the houses<MH1004> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> in Egypt<MH4714> when He struck<MH5062> the Egyptians<MH4714>, but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ab]</a></span>spared<MH5337> our homes<MH1004>.’” And the people<MH5971a> bowed<MH6915> low<MH6915> and worshiped<MH2331c>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> went<MH1980> and did<MH6213a> <i>so;</i> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, so<MH3651> they did<MH6213a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Now it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> at midnight<MH2677, 3915> that the LORD<MH3068> struck<MH5221> all<MH3605> the firstborn<MH1060> in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, from the firstborn<MH1060> of Pharaoh<MH6547> who sat<MH3427> on his throne<MH3678> to the firstborn<MH1060> of the captive<MH7628b> who<MH834> was in the dungeon<MH1004, 953a>, and all<MH3605> the firstborn<MH1060> of cattle<MH929>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And Pharaoh<MH6547> got<MH6965> up<MH6965> in the night<MH3915>, he and all<MH3605> his servants<MH5650> and all<MH3605> the Egyptians<MH4714>, and there was a great<MH1419> cry<MH6818> in Egypt<MH4714>, for there<MH369> was<MH369> no<MH369> home<MH1004> where<MH834, 8033> there<MH369> was<MH369> not someone dead<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Then he called<MH7121> for Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> at night<MH3915> and said<MH559>, “Rise<MH6965> up<MH6965>, get<MH3318> out<MH3318> from among<MH8432> my people<MH5971a>, both<MH1571> you and the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>; and go<MH1980>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ac]</a></span>worship<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>, as you have said<MH1696>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Take<MH3947> both<MH1571> your flocks<MH6629> and your herds<MH1241>, as you have said<MH1696>, and go<MH1980>, and bless<MH1288> me also<MH1571>.” <p class="hdg">Exodus of Israel</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>The Egyptians<MH4714> urged<MH2388, 5921> the people<MH5971a>, to send<MH7971> them out<MH7971> of the land<MH776> in a hurry<MH4116>, for they said<MH559>, “We will all<MH3605> be dead<MH4191>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>So the people<MH5971a> took<MH5375> their dough<MH1217> before<MH2962> it was<MH2556a> leavened<MH2556a>, <i>with</i> their kneading<MH4863> bowls<MH4863> bound<MH6887a> up<MH6887a> in the clothes<MH8071> on their shoulders<MH7926>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Now the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> had done<MH6213a> according to the word<MH1697> of Moses<MH4872>, for they had requested<MH7592> from the Egyptians<MH4714> articles<MH3627> of silver<MH3701> and articles<MH3627> of gold<MH2091>, and clothing<MH8071>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/12-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>and the LORD<MH3068> had given<MH5414> the people<MH5971a> favor<MH2580> in the sight<MH5869> of the Egyptians<MH4714>, so that they let them have their request<MH7592>.
