it is to be the first<MH7223> month<MH2320> of the year<MH8141> for you. <a href="/exodus/12-3.htm">3</a>Speak<MH1696> to all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712> of Israel<MH3478>, saying<MH559>, ‘On the tenth<MH6218> of this<MH2088> month<MH2320> they are, each<MH376> one<MH376>, to take<MH3947> a <a href="#fn">[b]</a>lamb<MH7716> for themselves, according to the fathers’<MH1> households<MH1004>, a <a href="#fn">[c]</a>lamb<MH7716> for <a href="#fn">[d]</a>each household<MH1004>. <a href="/exodus/12-4.htm">4</a>Now if<MH518> the household<MH1004> is<MH4591> too<MH4480> small<MH4591> for a <a href="#fn">[e]</a>lamb<MH7716>, then he and his neighbor<MH7934> nearest<MH7138> to his house<MH1004> are to take<MH3947> one according to the <a href="#fn">[f]</a>number<MH4373> of persons<MH5315> in them; and against all<MH3605> the gods<MH430> of Egypt<MH4714> I will execute<MH6213a> judgments<MH8201>—I am the LORD<MH3068>. <a href="/exodus/12-13.htm">13</a>The blood<MH1818> shall be a sign<MH226> for you on the houses<MH1004> where<MH834, 8033> you <a href="#fn">[o]</a>live; and when I see<MH7200> the blood<MH1818> I will pass<MH6452a> over<MH5921> you, and no<MH3808> plague<MH5063> will come<MH1961> upon you <a href="#fn">[p]</a>to destroy<MH7843> you when I strike<MH5221> the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. Feast of Unleavened Bread<a href="/exodus/12-14.htm">14</a>‘Now this<MH2088> day<MH3117> shall be a memorial<MH2146> to you, and you shall celebrate<MH2287> it as a feast<MH2282> to the LORD<MH3068>; throughout your generations<MH1755> you are to celebrate<MH2287> it as <a href="#fn">[q]</a>a permanent<MH5769> ordinance<MH2708>. <a href="/exodus/12-15.htm">15</a>For seven<MH7651> days<MH3117> you shall eat<MH398> unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682>, but on the first<MH7223> day<MH3117> you shall remove<MH7673a> dough<MH7603> with<MH7603> yeast<MH7603> from your houses<MH1004>; for whoever<MH3605> eats<MH398> anything<MH2557> with<MH2557> yeast<MH2557> from the first<MH7223> day<MH3117> until<MH5704> the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117>, that <a href="#fn">[r]</a>person<MH5315> shall be cut<MH3772> off<MH3772> from Israel<MH3478>. <a href="/exodus/12-16.htm">16</a>And on the first<MH7223> day<MH3117> you shall have a holy<MH6944> assembly<MH4744>, and another holy<MH6944> assembly<MH4744> on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117>; no<MH3808> work<MH4399> at all<MH3605> shall be done<MH6213a> on them, except<MH389> for what<MH834> must be eaten<MH398> by every<MH3605> person<MH5315>—that alone<MH905> may be <a href="#fn">[s]</a>prepared<MH6213a> by you. <a href="/exodus/12-17.htm">17</a>You shall also keep<MH8104> the Feast of Unleavened<MH4682> Bread<MH4682>, for on this<MH2088> very<MH6106> day<MH3117> I brought<MH3318> your <a href="#fn">[t]</a>multitudes<MH6635> out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>; therefore you shall keep<MH8104> this<MH2088> day<MH3117> throughout your generations<MH1755> as a <a href="#fn">[u]</a>permanent<MH5769> ordinance<MH2708>. <a href="/exodus/12-18.htm">18</a>In the first<MH7223> month, on the fourteenth<MH702, 6240> day<MH3117> of the month<MH2320> at evening<MH6153>, you shall eat<MH398> unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682>, until<MH5704> the twenty-first<MH6242, 259> day<MH3117> of the month<MH2320> at evening<MH6153>. <a href="/exodus/12-19.htm">19</a>For seven<MH7651> days<MH3117> there shall be no<MH3808> dough<MH7603> with<MH7603> yeast<MH7603> found<MH4672> in your houses<MH1004>; for whoever<MH3605> eats<MH398> anything<MH4263b> with<MH4263b> yeast<MH4263b>, that <a href="#fn">[v]</a>person<MH5315> shall be cut<MH3772> off<MH3772> from the congregation<MH5712> of Israel<MH3478>, whether he is a stranger<MH1616> or a native<MH249> of the land<MH776>. <a href="/exodus/12-20.htm">20</a>You shall not eat<MH398> anything<MH3605> with yeast<MH4263b>; in all<MH3605> your dwellings<MH4186> you shall eat<MH398> unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682>.’” <a href="/exodus/12-21.htm">21</a>Then Moses<MH4872> called<MH7121> for all<MH3605> the elders<MH2205> of Israel<MH3478> and said<MH559> to them, “Go<MH4900> and take<MH3947> for yourselves <a href="#fn">[w]</a>lambs<MH6629> according to your families<MH4940>, and slaughter<MH7819> the Passover<MH6453> lamb. <a href="/exodus/12-22.htm">22</a>And you shall take<MH3947> a bunch<MH92> of hyssop<MH231> and dip<MH2881> it in the blood<MH1818> which<MH834> is in the basin<MH5592a>, and <a href="#fn">[x]</a>apply<MH5060> some<MH4480> of the blood<MH1818> that is in the basin<MH5592a> to the lintel<MH4947> and the two<MH8147> doorposts<MH4201>; and none<MH3808, 376> of you shall go<MH3318> outside<MH3318> the door<MH6607> of his house<MH1004> until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>. A Memorial of Redemption<a href="/exodus/12-23.htm">23</a>For the LORD<MH3068> will pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> to strike<MH5062> the Egyptians<MH4714>; but when He sees<MH7200> the blood<MH1818> on the lintel<MH4947> and on the two<MH8147> doorposts<MH4201>, the LORD<MH3068> will pass<MH6452a> over<MH5921> the door<MH6607> and will not allow<MH5414> the destroyer<MH7843> to come<MH935> in<MH935> to your houses<MH1004> to strike<MH5062> you. <a href="/exodus/12-24.htm">24</a>And you shall keep<MH8104> this<MH2088> event<MH1697> as an ordinance<MH2706> for you and your children<MH1121> forever<MH5704, 5769>. <a href="/exodus/12-25.htm">25</a>When<MH3588> you enter<MH935> the land<MH776> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> will give<MH5414> you, as He has <a href="#fn">[y]</a>promised<MH1696>, you shall keep<MH8104> this<MH2088> <a href="#fn">[z]</a>rite<MH5656>. <a href="/exodus/12-26.htm">26</a>And when your children<MH1121> say<MH559> to you, ‘<a href="#fn">[aa]</a>What<MH4100> does this<MH2088> rite<MH5656> mean to you?’ <a href="/exodus/12-27.htm">27</a>then you shall say<MH559>, ‘It is a Passover<MH6453> sacrifice<MH2077> to the LORD<MH3068> because<MH834> He<MH834> passed<MH6452a> over<MH5921> the houses<MH1004> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> in Egypt<MH4714> when He struck<MH5062> the Egyptians<MH4714>, but <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>spared<MH5337> our homes<MH1004>.’” And the people<MH5971a> bowed<MH6915> low<MH6915> and worshiped<MH2331c>. <a href="/exodus/12-28.htm">28</a>Then the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> went<MH1980> and did<MH6213a> so; just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, so<MH3651> they did<MH6213a>. <a href="/exodus/12-29.htm">29</a>Now it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> at midnight<MH2677, 3915> that the LORD<MH3068> struck<MH5221> all<MH3605> the firstborn<MH1060> in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, from the firstborn<MH1060> of Pharaoh<MH6547> who sat<MH3427> on his throne<MH3678> to the firstborn<MH1060> of the captive<MH7628b> who<MH834> was in the dungeon<MH1004, 953a>, and all<MH3605> the firstborn<MH1060> of cattle<MH929>. <a href="/exodus/12-30.htm">30</a>And Pharaoh<MH6547> got<MH6965> up<MH6965> in the night<MH3915>, he and all<MH3605> his servants<MH5650> and all<MH3605> the Egyptians<MH4714>, and there was a great<MH1419> cry<MH6818> in Egypt<MH4714>, for there<MH369> was<MH369> no<MH369> home<MH1004> where<MH834, 8033> there<MH369> was<MH369> not someone dead<MH4191>. <a href="/exodus/12-31.htm">31</a>Then he called<MH7121> for Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> at night<MH3915> and said<MH559>, “Rise<MH6965> up<MH6965>, get<MH3318> out<MH3318> from among<MH8432> my people<MH5971a>, both<MH1571> you and the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>; and go<MH1980>, <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>worship<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068>, as you have said<MH1696>. <a href="/exodus/12-32.htm">32</a>Take<MH3947> both<MH1571> your flocks<MH6629> and your herds<MH1241>, as you have said<MH1696>, and go<MH1980>, and bless<MH1288> me also<MH1571>.” Exodus of Israel<a href="/exodus/12-33.htm">33</a>The Egyptians<MH4714> urged<MH2388, 5921> the people<MH5971a>, to send<MH7971> them out<MH7971> of the land<MH776> in a hurry<MH4116>, for they said<MH559>, “We will all<MH3605> be dead<MH4191>.” <a href="/exodus/12-34.htm">34</a>So the people<MH5971a> took<MH5375> their dough<MH1217> before<MH2962> it was<MH2556a> leavened<MH2556a>, with their kneading<MH4863> bowls<MH4863> bound<MH6887a> up<MH6887a> in the clothes<MH8071> on their shoulders<MH7926>. <a href="/exodus/12-35.htm">35</a>Now the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> had done<MH6213a> according to the word<MH1697> of Moses<MH4872>, for they had requested<MH7592> from the Egyptians<MH4714> articles<MH3627> of silver<MH3701> and articles<MH3627> of gold<MH2091>, and clothing<MH8071>; <a href="/exodus/12-36.htm">36</a>and the LORD<MH3068> had given<MH5414> the people<MH5971a> favor<MH2580> in the sight<MH5869> of the Egyptians<MH4714>, so that they let them have their request<MH7592>. Therefore they plundered<MH5337> the Egyptians<MH4714>. <a href="/exodus/12-37.htm">37</a>Now the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> journeyed<MH5265> from Rameses<MH7486> to Succoth<MH5523>, about six<MH8337a> hundred<MH3967> thousand<MH505> men<MH1397> on foot<MH7273>, aside<MH905> from children<MH2945>. <a href="/exodus/12-38.htm">38</a>A mixed<MH6154a> multitude<MH7227a> also<MH1571> went<MH5927> up<MH5927> with them, <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>along with flocks<MH6629> and herds<MH1241>, a very<MH3966> large<MH3515> number<MH3515> of livestock<MH4735>. <a href="/exodus/12-39.htm">39</a>And they baked<MH644> the dough<MH1217> which<MH834> they had brought<MH3318> out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714> into cakes<MH5692> of unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682>. Ordinance of the Passover<a href="/exodus/12-42.htm">42</a>It is a night<MH3915> <a href="#fn">[ah]</a>to be observed<MH8107> for the LORD<MH3068>, for having brought<MH3318> them out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>; this<MH2088> night<MH3915> is for the LORD<MH3068>, <a href="#fn">[ai]</a>to be observed<MH8107> by all<MH3605> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> throughout their generations<MH1755>. <a href="/exodus/12-43.htm">43</a>And the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, “This<MH2088> is the ordinance<MH2708> of the Passover<MH6453>: no<MH3605, 3808> <a href="#fn">[aj]</a>foreigner<MH1121, 5236> is to eat<MH398> it; <a href="/exodus/12-44.htm">44</a>but as for every<MH3605> slave<MH5650> <a href="#fn">[ak]</a>that someone<MH376> has purchased<MH4736> with money<MH3701>, after you have circumcised<MH4135> him, then<MH227> he may eat<MH398> it. <a href="/exodus/12-45.htm">45</a>A stranger<MH8453> or a hired<MH7916> worker<MH7916> shall not eat<MH398> it. <a href="/exodus/12-46.htm">46</a>It is to be eaten<MH398> in a single<MH259> house<MH1004>; you are not to bring<MH3318> any<MH4480> of the meat<MH1320> outside<MH3318, 2351> of the house<MH1004>, nor<MH3808> are you to break<MH7665> any bone<MH6106> of it. <a href="/exodus/12-47.htm">47</a>All<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712> of Israel<MH3478> are to <a href="#fn">[al]</a>celebrate<MH6213a> this. <a href="/exodus/12-48.htm">48</a>But if<MH3588> a stranger<MH1616> resides<MH1481a> with you and <a href="#fn">[am]</a>celebrates<MH6213a> the Passover<MH6453> to the LORD<MH3068>, all<MH3605> of his males<MH2145> are to be circumcised<MH4135>, and then<MH227> he shall come<MH7126> near<MH7126> to <a href="#fn">[an]</a>celebrate<MH6213a> it; and he shall be like a native<MH249> of the land<MH776>.
