paper describes an identification of specific shapes within binary images using the morphological Hit-or-Miss Transform (HMT). Hit-or-Miss transform is a general binary morphological operation that can be used in searching of particular patterns of foreground and background pixels in an image. It is actually a basic operation of binary morphology since almost all other binary morphological operators are derived from it. The input of this method is a binary image and a structuring element (a template which will be searched in a binary image) while the output is another binary image. In this paper a modification of Hit-or-Miss transform has been proposed. The accuracy of algorithm is adjusted according to the similarity of the template and the sought template. The implementation of this method has been done by C language. The algorithm has been tested on several images and the results have shown that this new method can be used for similar shape detection. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hit-or-miss%20operator%20transform" title="hit-or-miss operator transform">hit-or-miss operator transform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HMT" title=" HMT"> HMT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=binary%20morphological%20operation" title=" binary morphological operation"> binary morphological operation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shape%20detection" title=" shape detection"> shape detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=binary%20images%20processing" title=" binary images processing"> binary images processing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11881/hit-or-miss-transform-as-a-tool-for-similar-shape-detection" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11881.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">331</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1663</span> Ultrasonic Treatment of Baker’s Yeast Effluent</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emine%20Y%C4%B1lmaz">Emine Yılmaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Serap%20F%C4%B1nd%C4%B1k"> Serap Fındık</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Baker’s yeast industry uses molasses as a raw material. Molasses is end product of sugar industry. Wastewater from molasses processing presents large amount of coloured substances that give dark brown color and high organic load to the effluents. The main coloured compounds are known as melanoidins. Melanoidins are product of Maillard reaction between amino acid and carbonyl groups in molasses. Dark colour prevents sunlight penetration and reduces photosynthetic activity and dissolved oxygen level of surface waters. Various methods like biological processes (aerobic and anaerobic), ozonation, wet air oxidation, coagulation/flocculation are used to treatment of baker’s yeast effluent. Before effluent is discharged adequate treatment is imperative. In addition to this, increasingly stringent environmental regulations are forcing distilleries to improve existing treatment and also to find alternative methods of effluent management or combination of treatment methods. Sonochemical oxidation is one of the alternative methods. Sonochemical oxidation employs ultrasound resulting in cavitation phenomena. In this study, decolorization of baker’s yeast effluent was investigated by using ultrasound. Baker’s yeast effluent was supplied from a factory which is located in the north of Turkey. An ultrasonic homogenizator used for this study. Its operating frequency is 20 kHz. TiO2-ZnO catalyst has been used as sonocatalyst. The effects of molar proportion of TiO2-ZnO, calcination temperature and time, catalyst amount were investigated on the decolorization of baker’s yeast effluent. The results showed that prepared composite TiO2-ZnO with 4:1 molar proportion treated at 700°C for 90 min provides better result. Initial decolorization rate at 15 min is 3% without catalyst, 14,5% with catalyst treated at 700°C for 90 min respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=baker%E2%80%99s%20yeast%20effluent" title="baker’s yeast effluent">baker’s yeast effluent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decolorization" title=" decolorization"> decolorization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sonocatalyst" title=" sonocatalyst"> sonocatalyst</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasound" title=" ultrasound"> ultrasound</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7535/ultrasonic-treatment-of-bakers-yeast-effluent" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7535.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">474</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1662</span> Implementation of IWA-ASM1 Model for Simulating the Wastewater Treatment Plant of Beja by GPS-X 5.1</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fezzani%20Boubaker">Fezzani Boubaker</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The modified activated sludge model (ASM1 or Mantis) is a generic structured model and a common platform for dynamic simulation of varieties of aerobic processes for optimization and upgrading of existing plants and for new facilities design. Molasses wastewater contains high molecular weight polymers called melanoidins. Melanoidins are obtained after the reactions between the amino acids and carbonyl groups in molasses. The molasses wastewater has high biochemical and chemical oxygen demand and dark brown color. If it is discharged to receiving bodies without any treatment, it prevents light penetration and dissolved oxygen level of the surface water decreases. Melanoidin compounds are toxic effect to the microorganism in water and there is a resistance to microbial degradation. Before discharging molasses wastewater, adequate treatment is necessary. Three respirometric runs were performed in a closed tank reactor to characterize this mixed raw effluent. Respirometric result indicated that the readily biodegradable fraction (SS) was in range of 6-22%, the slowly biodegradable fraction (Xs) was in range of 33-42%, heterotrophic biomass (XH) was in range of 9-40% and the inert fractions: XI and SI were in range of 2-40% and 6-12% respectively which were high due to the presence of baker’s yeast factory effluent compared to domestic effluent alone. The fractions of the total nitrogen showed that SNO fraction is between 6 and 9% of TKN, the fraction of nitrogen ammonia SNH was ranging from 5 to 68%. The organic fraction divided into two compartments SND (11-85%) and XND (5-20%) the inert particulate nitrogen fraction XNI was between 0.4 and 1% and the inert soluble fraction of nitrogen SNI was ranged from 0.4 to 3%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wastewater%20characterization" title="wastewater characterization">wastewater characterization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COD%20fractions" title=" COD fractions"> COD fractions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=respirometry" title=" respirometry"> respirometry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=domestic%20sewage" title=" domestic sewage"> domestic sewage</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36157/characterization-of-domestic-sewage-mixed-with-bakers-yeast-factory-effluent-of-beja-wastewater-treatment-plant-by-respirometry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36157.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">484</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1659</span> Immunoprotective Role of Baker's Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) against Experimentally Induced Aflatoxicosis in Broiler Chicks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zain%20Ul%20Abadeen">Zain Ul Abadeen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Zargham%20Khan"> Muhammad Zargham Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Kashif%20Saleemi"> Muhammad Kashif Saleemi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahrar%20Khan"> Ahrar Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ijaz%20Javed%20Hassan"> Ijaz Javed Hassan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aisha%20Khatoon"> Aisha Khatoon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qasim%20Altaf"> Qasim Altaf</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Aflatoxins are secondary metabolites produced by toxigenic fungi, and there are four types of aflatoxins include AFB1, AFB2, AFG1 and AFG2. Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is considered as most toxic form. It is mainly responsible for the contamination of poultry feed and produces a condition called aflatoxicosis leads to immunosuppression in poultry birds. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a single cell microorganism and acts as a source of growth factors, minerals and amino acids which improve the immunity and digestibility in poultry birds as probiotics. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is well recognized to cause the biological degradation of mycotoxins (toxin binder) because its cell wall contains β-glucans and mannans which specifically bind with aflatoxins and reduce their absorption or transfer them to some non-toxic compounds. The present study was designed to investigate the immunosuppressive effects of aflatoxins in broiler chicks and the reduction of severity of these effects by the use of Baker’s Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). One-day-old broiler chicks were procured from local hatchery and were divided into various groups (A-I). These groups were treated with different levels of AFB1 @ 400 µg/kg and 600 µg/kg along with different levels of Baker’s Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) 0.1% and 0.5 % in the feed. The total duration of the experiment was six weeks and different immunological parameters including the cellular immune response by injecting PHA-P (Phytohemagglutinin-P) in the skin of the birds, phagocytic function of mononuclear cells by Carbon clearance assay from blood samples and humoral immune response against intravenously injected sheep RBCs from the serum samples were determined. The birds from each group were slaughtered at the end of the experiment to determine the presence of gross lesions in the immune organs and these tissues were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for histological investigations. The results showed that AFB1 intoxicated groups had reduced body weight gain, feed intake, organs weight and immunological responses compared to the control and Baker’s Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) treated groups. Different gross and histological degenerative changes were recorded in the immune organs of AFB1 intoxicated groups compared to control and Baker’s Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) treated groups. The present study concluded that Baker’s Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) addition in the feed helps to ameliorate the immunotoxigenic effects produced by AFB1 in broiler chicks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aflatoxins" title="aflatoxins">aflatoxins</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=body%20weight%20gain" title=" body weight gain"> body weight gain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feed%20intake" title=" feed intake"> feed intake</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immunological%20response" title=" immunological response"> immunological response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=toxigenic%20effect" title=" toxigenic effect"> toxigenic effect</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72717/immunoprotective-role-of-bakers-yeast-saccharomyces-cerevisiae-against-experimentally-induced-aflatoxicosis-in-broiler-chicks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72717.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">312</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1658</span> Fermentable Bio-Ethanol Using Bakers and Palmwine Yeasts: Indices of Bioavailability of Carbohydrate and Sugar from Fungal Treated Rice Husk</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ezeonu">Ezeonu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chukwuma%20Stephen"> Chukwuma Stephen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Onwurah"> Onwurah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ikechukwu%20Noel%20Emmanuel"> Ikechukwu Noel Emmanuel</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Pure strains of Aspergillus fumigatus (AF), aspergillus niger (AN), aspergillus oryzae (AO), trichophyton mentagrophyte (TM), trichophyton rubrum (TR) and Trichophyton soudanense (TS) were isolated from decomposing rice husk. Freshly processed rice husk in Mandle’s medium were heat pre-treated using an autoclave at 121oC for 20 minutes. India, with its vast cultural diversity and various climatic regions, offers a wide range of vernacular architecture. This paper focuses on two main geographical regions: Kashmir and Kerala. They bring together myriad challenges of climatic and social characteristics to incorporate into their vernacular architectures, which are still relevant despite the advent of globalization and modernization. Scholars like William Wurster and Catherine Bauer even claimed that all the traditional buildings in these places have the kind of urbanity, which is dignified and elegant but also lively and human that every architect would like to achieve if they knew how. With modernization, and with a greater ease of construction, a reduction in labor, and the apparent robustness of contemporary construction techniques, people have, however, become increasingly tentative in respect of vernacular architecture. And yet modern architecture has typically led to energize intensive structures without much consideration to the location and surroundings of the structure itself. In contrary, Laurie Baker, the British-born Indian architect, had shown us the way to integrate the knowledge of vernacular when he developed his designs based on the traditional architecture of Kerala, respecting the local climate and environment. This paper also explores his technical creativity in his design of Center for Development Studies (CDS) in Trivandrum. Hence, in order to protect and conserve our rich cultural and architectural heritage, the elements of vernacular should be incorporated into the contemporary planning and architecture for sustainable building design. The provision should be made to incorporate vernacular architecture and traditional knowledge in the policies. Ultimately, the policymakers, planners, and architects should consider this incorporation of traditional vernacular and contemporary sustainability in their work for the betterment of society now. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vernacular" title="vernacular">vernacular</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=architecture" title=" architecture"> architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20development" title=" sustainable development"> sustainable development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kashmir%20and%20Kerala" title=" Kashmir and Kerala"> Kashmir and Kerala</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate" title=" climate"> climate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laurie%20Baker" title=" Laurie Baker"> Laurie Baker</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119134/how-to-incorporate-vernacular-architecture-into-practice-for-sustainable-development-case-studies-from-kashmir-and-kerala-india" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119134.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">177</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1654</span> Isolation and Molecular Identification of Two Fungal Strains Capable of Degrading hydrocarbon Contaminants on Saudi Arabian Environment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amr%20A.%20EL%20Hanafy">Amr A. Trip and failed start has major impact on plant reliability and all plant operators focussed on efforts required to minimise the trips & failed starts. The performance of these CTQs are measured with 2 metrics, MTBT(Mean time between trips) and SR (Starting reliability). These metrics helps to identify top failure modes and identify units need more effort to improve plant reliability. Baker Hughes Trip reduction program structured to reduce these unwanted trip 1. Real time machine operational parameters remotely available and capturing the signature of malfunction including related boundary condition. 2. Real time alerting system based on analytics available remotely. 3. Remote access to trip logs and alarms from control system to identify the cause of events. 4. Continuous support to field engineers by remotely connecting with subject matter expert. 5. Live tracking of key CTQs 6. Benchmark against fleet 7. Break down to the cause of failure to component level 8. Investigate top contributor, identify design and operational root cause 9. Implement corrective and preventive action 10. Assessing effectiveness of implemented solution using reliability growth models. 11. Develop analytics for predictive maintenance With this approach , Baker Hughes team is able to support customer in achieving their Reliability Key performance Indicators for monitored units, huge cost savings for plant operators. The effect of thirty minute incubation with the total extracts (10-330 µg/ml) or their fractions on the exaggerated vasoconstriction response to phenylephrine (10nM to 10microM) and impaired vasodilation to acetylcholine (10-330 µg /ml) of aortae isolated from metabolic syndrome animals was studied. Incubating aortae isolated from metabolic syndrome animals with total methanol extract of OA, AA, PA, AC, CV, and TN at concentrations (10-330 microgram/ml) in the organ bath led to concentration dependent alleviation of exaggerated vasoconstriction response to phenylephrine without having beneficial effect on impaired vasodilation to acetylcholine. In conclusion, addition of OA, AA, PA, AC, CV and TN to the standard therapies may provide superior means to alleviate the associated vascular complications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vascular%20dysfunction" title="vascular dysfunction">vascular dysfunction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exaggerated%20vasoconstriction" title=" exaggerated vasoconstriction"> exaggerated vasoconstriction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metabolic%20syndrome" title=" metabolic syndrome"> metabolic syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saudi%20plants" title=" Saudi plants"> Saudi plants</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50059/screening-of-some-saudi-plants-for-their-alleviating-effect-on-the-exaggerated-vasoconstriction-in-metabolic-syndrome" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50059.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">279</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1647</span> Characterization of Coronary Artery Obstruction and Related Findings in Ischemic Heart Patients Using Cardiac Scintigraphy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yousif%20Mohamed%20Y.%20Abdallah">Yousif Mohamed Y. The aim was to detect the effect of papaverine on the proliferation and viability of neural stem cells. Rat neural progenitor cells were isolated from embryos (E14) brains. The dispersed tissues were allowed to settle, then, The supernatant was centrifuged at 1,000 g for 5 min. The pellet was placed in Hank’s solution cultured as free-floating neurospheres Dulbecco’s modified Eagle medium (DMEM) and Hams F12 (3:1) supplemented with B27 (Invitrogen GmBH, Karlsruhe, Germany), 20 ng/mL epidermal growth factor (EGF; Biosource, Karlsruhe, Germany), 20 ng/mL recombinant human fibroblast growth factor (rhFGF; R&D Systems, Wiesbaden-Nordenstadt, Germany), and penicillin and streptomycin (1:100; Invitrogen) at 37°C with 7.5% CO2 . Differentiation was initiated by growth factor withdrawal and plating onto a poly-d-lysine/ laminin matrix. The neurospheres were fed every 2-3 days by replacing 50% of the culture media with fresh media. The culture suspension was transferred to a dish containing 16 wells. The wells were divided as follows: 4 wells received no papaverine (control), 4 wells 1 u, 4 wells 5 u and 4 wells 10 u of papaverine solution. In the next 2 weeks, photography (0,4,5,11days) and viability test were done. The photographs were analysed. Results : papaverine didn't affect proliferation of neurospheres, while it affected viability compared to control , this was dose related. Conclusion: This indicates the harmful effect of papaverine suggesting it to be a candidate neurotoxin causing Parkinsonism. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neurospheres" title="neurospheres">neurospheres</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20stem%20cells" title=" neural stem cells"> neural stem cells</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=papaverine" title=" papaverine"> papaverine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parkinsonism" title=" Parkinsonism"> Parkinsonism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14864/effect-of-papaverine-on-neurospheres" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14864.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">660</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1645</span> Improved Skin Detection Using Colour Space and Texture</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Medjram%20Sofiane">Medjram Sofiane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Babahenini%20Mohamed%20Chaouki"> Babahenini Mohamed Chaouki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Benali%20Yamina"> Mohamed Benali Yamina</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Skin detection is an important task for computer vision systems. A good method for skin detection means a good and successful result of the system. The colour is a good descriptor that allows us to detect skin colour in the images, but because of lightings effects and objects that have a similar colour skin, skin detection becomes difficult. In the present study, the molecular hybridization tool was adopted to obtain six Schiff bases of isatin and adamantane-1-carbohydrazide (18–23). Then, their anticonvulsant activity was evaluated using a pentylenetetrazole- (PTZ-) induced seizure model using phenobarbitone as a positive control. Our findings showed that compounds 18–23 provided significant protection against PTZ-induced seizure, and maximum activities were associated with compound 23. Moreover, all investigated compounds increased the latency of induced convulsion and reduced the duration of epilepsy, with compound 23 being the best. Interestingly, most of the synthesized molecules showed a reduction in neurological symptoms and severity of the seizure. Molecular docking studies suggest GABA-A receptor as a potential target, and in silico ADME screening revealed that the pharmaceutical properties of compound 23 are within the specified limit. Thus, compound 23 was identified as a promising candidate that warrants further drug discovery processes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=isatin%20and%20adamantane" title="isatin and adamantane">isatin and adamantane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anticonvulsant%20activity" title=" anticonvulsant activity"> anticonvulsant activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PTZ-induced%20seizure" title=" PTZ-induced seizure"> PTZ-induced seizure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=molecular%20docking" title=" molecular docking"> molecular docking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145055/schiff-bases-of-isatin-and-admantane-1-carbohydrazide-synthesis-characterization-and-anticonvulsant-activity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145055.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">207</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1639</span> Compact Ultra-Wideband Printed Monopole Antenna with Inverted L-Shaped Slots for Data Communication and RF Energy Harvesting</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Adel%20Sennouni">Mohamed Adel Sennouni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jamal%20Zbitou"> Jamal Zbitou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benaissa%20Abboud"> Benaissa Abboud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelwahed%20Tribak"> Abdelwahed Tribak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamid%20Bennis"> Hamid Bennis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Latrach"> Mohamed Latrach </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A compact UWB planar antenna fed with a microstrip-line is proposed. The direct electro-oxidation behavior of anthracene on the GR-PANI modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was used as the sensing principle. The results indicate thatthe response profile of the oxidation of anthracene on GR-PANI-modified GCE provides for the construction of sensor systems based onamperometric and potentiometric signal transductions. A dynamic linear range of 0.12- 100 µM anthracene and a detection limit of 0.044 µM anthracene were established for the sensor system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrochemical%20sensors" title="electrochemical sensors">electrochemical sensors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20pollutants" title=" environmental pollutants"> environmental pollutants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graphenated-polymers" title=" graphenated-polymers"> graphenated-polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyaromatic%20hydrocarbon" title=" polyaromatic hydrocarbon"> polyaromatic hydrocarbon</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2711/electrochemical-response-transductions-of-graphenated-polyaniline-nanosensor-for-environmental-anthracene" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2711.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">356</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1637</span> Study of the Phenomenon Nature of Order and Disorder in BaMn(Fe/V)F7 Fluoride Glass by the Hybrid Reverse Monte Carlo Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sidi%20Mohamed%20Mesli">Sidi Mohamed Mesli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Habchi"> Mohamed Habchi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Kotbi"> Mohamed Kotbi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rafik%20Benallal"> Rafik Benallal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelali%20Derouiche"> Abdelali Derouiche</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fluoride glasses with a nominal composition of BaMnMF7 (M = FeV assuming isomorphous replacement) have been structurally modelled through the simultaneous simulation of their neutron diffraction patterns by a reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) model and by a Rietveld for disordered materials (RDM) method. Model is consistent with an expected network of interconnected [MF6] polyhedra. The RMC results are accompanied by artificial satellite peaks. To remedy this problem, we use an extension of the RMC algorithm, which introduces an energy penalty term in acceptance criteria. This method is called the Hybrid Reverse Monte Carlo (HRMC) method. The idea of this paper is to apply the (HRMC) method to the title glasses, in order to make a study of the phenomenon nature of order and disorder by displaying and discussing the partial pair distribution functions (PDFs) g(r). We suggest that this method can be used to describe average correlations between components of fluoride glass or similar system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluoride%20glasses" title="fluoride glasses">fluoride glasses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RMC%20simulation" title=" RMC simulation"> RMC simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neutron%20scattering" title=" neutron scattering"> neutron scattering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20RMC%20simulation" title=" hybrid RMC simulation"> hybrid RMC simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lennard-Jones%20potential" title=" Lennard-Jones potential"> Lennard-Jones potential</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=partial%20pair%20distribution%20functions" title=" partial pair distribution functions"> partial pair distribution functions</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3016/study-of-the-phenomenon-nature-of-order-and-disorder-in-bamnfevf7-fluoride-glass-by-the-hybrid-reverse-monte-carlo-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3016.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">534</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1636</span> Polyphenol and Antimicrobial Activity in Olive Oil from Algeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamel%20Zemour">Kamel Zemour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kada%20Mohamed%20Amine%20Chouhim"> Kada Mohamed Amine Chouhim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Mairif"> Mohamed Mairif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tadj%20Eddine%20Adda%20Ardjan"> Tadj Eddine Adda Ardjan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Many recent studies show the positive effect of phenolic compounds in olive oil on health. They are known for their biological properties, where they have shown potential activity as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial agents. However, this characteristic is rarely studied in olive oil from different regions of Algeria. Different samples collected from the western region of Algeria were evaluated for their polyphenol content, antioxidant activity, and antimicrobial effect. The obtained results demonstrated that this oil is rich in polyphenols and revealed high antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Finally, this study has highlighted the nutritional and pharmaceutical importance of olive oil grown in Algeria. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=olive%20oil" title="olive oil">olive oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyphenols" title=" polyphenols"> polyphenols</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidant%20activity" title=" antioxidant activity"> antioxidant activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antimicrobial%20activity" title=" antimicrobial activity"> antimicrobial activity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159649/polyphenol-and-antimicrobial-activity-in-olive-oil-from-algeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159649.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">151</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1635</span> Chemical Modification of PVC and Its Surface Analysis by Means of XPS and Contact Angle Measurements</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Akrmi">Ali Akrmi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Beji"> Mohamed Beji</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Baklouti"> Ahmed Baklouti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatma%20Djouani"> Fatma Djouani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Philippe%20Lang"> Philippe Lang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20M.%20Chehimi"> Mohamed M. However, depending on the applications, it is necessary to modify PVC by mixing with a plasticizer; surface modification using plasma, surface grafting or flame treatment; or bulk chemical modification which affects the entire PVC chains at an extent that can be tuned by the polymer chemist. The targeted applications are improvement of chemical resistance, avoiding or limitation of migration of toxic plasticizers, improvement of antibacterial properties, or control of blood compatibility.
