And of course, with upgrades like these, there are some software incompatibilities. In this case, since this upgrade, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130117165521/http://sass-lang.com/"><span class="caps">SASS</span></a>‘ <code>--watch</code> command threw a <em>segmentation fault</em> error.</p> <p>After some nudging around the web, it became apparent that the error was not in <span class="caps">SASS, </span>but in this thing called <abbr title="File System State Monitor">FSSM</abbr>. And <span class="caps">FSSM </span>is apparently a <em>gem</em> that can be installed.</p> <p><span id="more-2051"></span></p> <p>The specific error was this: </p> <pre><code>/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/sass-3.1.4/vendor/fssm/lib/fssm/backends/fsevents.rb:27: [BUG] Segmentation fault ruby 1.8.7 (2010-01-10 patchlevel 249) [universal-darwin11.0]</code></pre> <p>To fix this error, you should run the following command:</p> <pre><code>gem install fssm</code></pre> <p>If you then run the <code>--watch</code> command, it shouldn’t crash anymore! <strong>Woohoo!</strong> It does give the following notice.</p> <pre><code>FSSM -> An optimized backend is available for this platform! FSSM -> gem install rb-fsevent</code></pre> <p>So just to be sure, you can also run the following: </p> <pre><code>gem install rb-fsevent</code></pre> <p>I’m not proficient at this by any measure, but I hope this keeps on behaving correctly, even with point updates to Lion.</p> <p>If you want to start out with <span class="caps">SASS, </span>it’s pretty easy to get it on your Mac.
