but <i>it was</i> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> the works<MG2041> of God<MG2316> might be displayed<MG5319> in him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>We must<MG1163> carry<MG2038b> out<MG2038b> the works<MG2041> of Him who sent<MG3992> Me as<MG2193> long<MG2193> as<MG2193> it is day<MG2250>; night<MG3571> is coming<MG2064>, when<MG3753> no<MG3762> one<MG3762> can<MG1410> work<MG2038b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>While<MG3752> I am<MG1510> in the world<MG2889>, I am<MG1510> the Light<MG5457> of the world<MG2889>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>When He had said<MG3004> this<MG3778>, He spit<MG4429> on the ground<MG5476>, and made<MG4160> mud<MG4081> from the saliva<MG4427>, and applied<MG2007> the mud<MG4081> to his eyes<MG3788>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and said<MG3004> to him, “Go<MG5217>, wash<MG3538> in the pool<MG2861> of Siloam<MG4611>” (which<MG3739> is translated<MG2059>, Sent<MG649>). So<MG3767> he left<MG565> and washed<MG3538>, and came<MG2064> <i>back</i> seeing<MG991>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>So<MG3767> the neighbors<MG1069>, and those<MG3588> who previously<MG4387> saw<MG2334> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>him as a beggar<MG4319b>, were saying<MG3004>, “Is this<MG3778> not the one who used to sit<MG2521> and beg<MG4319a>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Others<MG243> were saying<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> is he,” <i>still</i> others<MG243> were saying<MG3004>, “No<MG3780>, but he is like<MG3664> him.” <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>The man himself kept saying<MG3004>, “I am<MG1510> <i>the one.</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>So<MG3767> they were saying<MG3004> to him, “How<MG4459> then<MG3767> were your eyes<MG3788> opened<MG455>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>He answered<MG611>, “The man<MG444> who is called<MG3004> Jesus<MG2424> made<MG4160> mud<MG4081>, and spread<MG2025> <i>it</i> on<MG2025> my eyes<MG3788>, and said<MG3004> to me, ‘Go<MG5217> to Siloam<MG4611> and wash<MG3538>’; so<MG3767> I went<MG565> away<MG565> and washed<MG3538>, and I received<MG308> sight<MG308>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And they said<MG3004> to him, “Where<MG4226> is He?” He *said<MG3004>, “I do not know<MG3609a>.” <p class="hdg">Controversy over the Man</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>They *brought<MG71> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>the man who was previously<MG4218> blind<MG5185> to the Pharisees<MG5330>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> it was a Sabbath<MG4521> on the day<MG2250> that Jesus<MG2424> made<MG4160> the mud<MG4081> and opened<MG455> his eyes<MG3788>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then<MG3767> the Pharisees<MG5330> also<MG2532> were asking<MG2065> him again<MG3825> how<MG4459> he received<MG308> his sight<MG308>. And he said<MG3004> to them, “He applied<MG2007> mud<MG4081> to my eyes<MG3788>, and I washed<MG3538>, and I see<MG991>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> some<MG5100> of the Pharisees<MG5330> were saying<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> man<MG444> is not from God<MG2316>, because<MG3754> He does not keep<MG5083> the Sabbath<MG4521>.” But others<MG243> were saying<MG3004>, “How<MG4459> can<MG1410> a man<MG444> who is a sinner<MG268> perform<MG2038b> such<MG5108> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>signs<MG4592>?” And there was dissension<MG4978> among<MG1722> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>So<MG3767> they *said<MG3004> again<MG3825> to the man<MG5185> who<MG5185> was<MG5185> blind<MG5185>, “What<MG5101> do you say<MG3004> about<MG4012> Him, since<MG3754> He opened<MG455> your eyes<MG3788>?” And he said<MG3004>, “He is a prophet<MG4396>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>The Jews<MG2453> then<MG3767> did not believe<MG4100> <i>it</i> about<MG4012> him, that he had been<MG1510> blind<MG5185> and had received<MG308> sight<MG308>, until<MG2193> they called<MG5455> the parents<MG1118> of the very<MG846> one<MG846> who had received<MG308> his sight<MG308>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>and they questioned<MG2065> them, saying<MG3004>, “Is this<MG3778> your son<MG5207>, who<MG3739> you say<MG3004> was born<MG1080> blind<MG5185>? Then<MG3767> how<MG4459> does he now<MG737> see<MG991>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>His parents<MG1118> then<MG3767> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004>, “We know<MG3609a> that this<MG3778> is our son<MG5207>, and that he was born<MG1080> blind<MG5185>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>but how<MG4459> he now<MG3568> sees<MG991>, we do not know<MG3609a>; or<MG2228> who<MG5101> opened<MG455> his eyes<MG3788>, we do not know<MG3609a>. Ask<MG2065> him; he is of age<MG2244>, he will speak<MG2980> for himself<MG1438>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>His parents<MG1118> said<MG3004> this<MG3778> because<MG3754> they were<MG5399> afraid<MG5399> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Jews<MG2453>; for the Jews<MG2453> had already<MG2235> reached<MG4934> the<MG4934> decision<MG4934> that if<MG1437> anyone<MG5100> confessed<MG3670> Him to be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Christ<MG5547>, he was to be excommunicated<MG656> from<MG656> the<MG656> synagogue<MG656>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span><i>It was</i> for this<MG3778> reason<MG1223> <i>that</i> his parents<MG1118> said<MG3004>, “He is of age<MG2244>; ask<MG2065> him.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So<MG3767> for a second<MG1208> time<MG1208> they summoned<MG5455> the man<MG444> who<MG3739> had been<MG1510> blind<MG5185>, and said<MG3004> to him, “Give<MG1325> glory<MG1391> to God<MG2316>; we know<MG3609a> that this<MG3778> man<MG444> is a sinner<MG268>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He then<MG3767> answered<MG611>, “Whether<MG1487> He is a sinner<MG268>, I do not know<MG3609a>; one<MG1520> thing<MG1520> I do know<MG3609a>, that though I was blind<MG5185>, now<MG737> I see<MG991>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>So<MG3767> they said<MG3004> to him, “What<MG5101> did He do<MG4160> to you? How<MG4459> did He open<MG455> your eyes<MG3788>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>He answered<MG611> them, “I told<MG3004> you already<MG2235> and you did not listen<MG191>; why<MG5101> do you want<MG2309> to hear<MG191> <i>it</i> again<MG3825>? You do not want<MG2309> to become<MG1096> His disciples<MG3101> too<MG2532>, do you?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>They spoke<MG3058> abusively<MG3058> to him and said<MG3004>, “You are His disciple<MG3101>, but we are disciples<MG3101> of Moses<MG3475>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>We know<MG3609a> that God<MG2316> has spoken<MG2980> to Moses<MG3475>, but as for this<MG3778> man<MG3778>, we do not know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> He is from.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/9-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>The man<MG444> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to them, “Well<MG1063>, here<MG1722, 3778> is the amazing<MG2298> thing<MG2298>, that you do not know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> He is from, and <i>yet</i> He opened<MG455> my eyes<MG3788>!
