class="p-contents__article-text">1978年、25歳のとき、ウンブリア州ペルージャ近郊に、カシミアニットを製造する小さな会社を立ち上げたブルネロ・クチネリ。カラフルな色使いでイノベーションをもたらし、一代で世界的ブランドの地位を築く。85年になると、愛妻の故郷であるソロメオ村に本拠地を移転。村の丘陵地にそびえる中世の古城と集落を修復し、工場を構えた。クチネリ氏が追い求めてきたのは、「働く者の尊厳」を何よりも尊重した仕事のかたち。利益ではなく人間至上主義の価値観が、人々の労働意欲を高め、職人技を磨き、結果的にブランドの発展へ実を結んだ。</p><div class="p-contents__article-text">クチネリ氏は言う。「私がいつも夢見ていたのは、人としての道徳的尊厳と経済的尊厳、その双方を保持しつつ働くことでした。念頭にあったのは、地球に害を与えずものづくりをし、倫理、尊厳、道徳をもって正当な利潤をあげること。そのためにも、人々が美しい環境で働き、少しばかりよい報酬を手にし、自らもその夢の共同責任者として尊敬されていると感じる必要があります」。彼の夢は、過疎化が進んでいた当時わずか人口500人のソロメオ村を舞台に、数十年かけて実現を果たした。</p><div class="p-contents__article-headings-h2">すべては、ソロメオ村の未来と人々のために</h2><p class="p-contents__article-text">荒廃した14世紀の城を買い取り、本社としてリノベーションし、教会や住民の住居の修復からはじまったソロメオ村の復興プロジェクト。その後、劇場や図書館、哲学の庭などアートフォーラムの造営を実施。2013年には、地元の高度な職人技を次世代へ受け継いでいくために、ソロメオ職人学校を開校。学費は奨学金で免除され、生徒たちには給与も支給される。さらに卒業後、クチネリ社に就職することは入学条件ではないという。</p><div class="p-contents__article-text">ブランドにとって、何よりかけがえのない働き手は職人だ。世界中で1700人を超える従業員のうち、ここソロメオ村で働くのは1000人ほど。そのうち職人が過半数を占めるという。クチネリ社の職人の給料は、イタリアの平均賃金よりも高いことで知られる。職人たちは紛れもないアーティストであり、ゆえに尊敬を込めて「アルティジャーニ」と呼ばれるのだ。</p><div class="p-contents__article-text">2014年になると、復興事業は次なるステージへ。「A Project for Beauty」と掲げ、ワイナリーや果樹園、サッカー場、モニュメントを併設した広大な公園を2018年に完成させた。ソロメオ村の再生に取り組むクチネリ夫妻の情熱は、とどまるところを知らない。2021年10月末には、新たなプロジェクト「ソロメオの普遍的図書館」の建設が発表されたばかり。ローマ皇帝であり哲学者であったハドリアヌス帝を敬愛するクチネリ氏にとって、「書物は人生の指標」そのもの。良書とは、人間が深遠な成長を遂げるための伴侶と考える。哲学、建築学、文学、職人工芸の分野に絞り、膨大な蔵書を有するライブラリーを2024年に落成する計画だ。</p><div class="p-contents__article-text">クチネリ氏が働く人の尊厳を重視するのは、不遇な環境下で働く父親の姿を目にしてきた自らの経験が原点にあるから。田舎の農家に生まれたクチネリ氏は、やがて農業を辞めて都会の工場へ働きに出ては疲れ果てて帰ってくる父の背中を見て育った。自然と切り離された環境のなか、人間性を損なう労働の形態に疑問を抱いたクチネリ少年は、人間的尊厳と労働の尊さを両立したいという想いを胸にしたのだ。</p><p
