The WHO Secretary General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the number of cases outside China had increased 13-fold in two weeks and announced that he was “deeply concerned” by “alarming levels of inaction”. As of 20 March 2020, almost a quarter million cases of COVID-19 have been reported, including 9,885 deaths. It took over three months to reach the first 100,000 confirmed cases and only less than two weeks to reach the next 100,000.
