After the turn of second language pedagogy toward learner-oriented strategies, learners’ needs were more focused. Yet; the historical, social and political aspects of learning were still neglected. The present study investigates the notion of autonomous learning and explains its various facets from a pedagogical point of view. Furthermore; different elements, fields and scopes of autonomous learning will be explored. After exploring different aspects of autonomy, it is postulated that liberatory autonomy is highlighted since it not only covers social autonomy but also reveals learners’ capabilities and human potentials. It is also recommended that learners consider different elements of autonomy such as motivation, knowledge, confidence, and skills. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=critical%20pedagogy" title="critical pedagogy">critical pedagogy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20autonomy" title=" social autonomy"> social autonomy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=academic%20learning" title=" academic learning"> academic learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20notions" title=" cultural notions"> cultural notions</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19093/self-reliant-and-auto-directed-learning-modes-elements-fields-and-scopes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19093.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">461</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> A Contrastive Rhetoric Study: The Use of Textual and Interpersonal Metadiscoursal Markers in Persian and English Newspaper Editorials</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Habibollah%20Mashhady">Habibollah Mashhady</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moslem%20Fatollahi"> Moslem Fatollahi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study tries to contrast the use of metadiscoursal markers in English and Persian Newspaper Editorials as persuasive text types. These markers are linguistic elements in the text which do not add to the propositional content of it, rather they serve to realize the Halliday’s (1985) textual and interpersonal functions of language. At first, some of the most common markers from five subcategories of Text Connectives, Illocution Markers, Hedges, Emphatics, and Attitude Markers were identified in both English and Persian newspapers. Then, the frequency of occurrence of these markers in both English and Persian corpus consisting of 44 randomly selected editorials (18,000 words in each) from several English and Persian newspapers was recorded. After that, using a two-way chi square analysis, the overall x2 obs was found to be highly significant. So, the null hypothesis of no difference was confidently rejected. Finally, in order to determine the contribution of each subcategory to the overall x 2 value, one-way chi square analyses were applied to the individual subcategories. The results indicated that only two of the five subcategories of markers were statistically significant. This difference is then attributed to the differing spirits prevailing in the linguistic communities involved. Regarding the minor research question it was found that, in contrast to English writers, Persian writers are more writer-oriented in their writings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metadiscoursal%20markers" title="metadiscoursal markers">metadiscoursal markers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=textual%20meta-function" title=" textual meta-function"> textual meta-function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interpersonal%20meta-function" title=" interpersonal meta-function"> interpersonal meta-function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=persuasive%20texts" title=" persuasive texts"> persuasive texts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=English%20and%20Persian%20newspaper%20editorials" title=" English and Persian newspaper editorials"> English and Persian newspaper editorials</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18633/a-contrastive-rhetoric-study-the-use-of-textual-and-interpersonal-metadiscoursal-markers-in-persian-and-english-newspaper-editorials" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18633.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">573</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Genre Analysis of Postgraduate Theses and Dissertations: Case of Statement of the Problem</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Mashhady">H. The researchers sought to depict the generic structure of “statement of the problem” section of PhD dissertations and MA theses. Moreover, researchers desired to find any probable variety based on the year the dissertations belonged, to see weather genre-consciousness developed among Iranian postgraduates. To obtain data, “statement of the problem” section of 90 Ph.D. dissertations and MA theses from 2001 to 2013 in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) at above-mentioned universities was selected. Frequency counts was employed for the quantitative method of data analysis, while genre analysis was used as the qualitative method. Inter-rater reliability was found to be about 0.93. Results revealed that students in different degrees at each of these universities used various generic structures for writing “statement of the problem”. Moreover, comparison of different time periods (2001-2006, and 2007-2013) revealed that postgraduates in the second time period, regardless of their degree and university, employed more similar generic structures which can be optimistically attributed to a general raise in genre awareness. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genre" title="genre">genre</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genre%20analysis" title=" genre analysis"> genre analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ph.D.%20and%20MA%20dissertations" title=" Ph.D. and MA dissertations"> Ph.D. and MA dissertations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=statement%20of%20the%20problem" title=" statement of the problem"> statement of the problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=generic%20structure" title=" generic structure"> generic structure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18508/genre-analysis-of-postgraduate-theses-and-dissertations-case-of-statement-of-the-problem" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18508.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">669</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> O-(2-18F-Fluoroethyl)-L-Tyrosine Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography in Patients with Suspicious Recurrent Low and High-Grade Glioma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahkameh%20Asadi">Mahkameh Asadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Habibollah%20Dadgar"> Habibollah Dadgar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The precise definition margin of high and low-grade glioma is crucial for choosing best treatment approach after surgery and radio-chemotherapy. The aim of the current study was to assess the O-(2-18F-fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine (18F-FET) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) in patients with low (LGG) and high grade glioma (HGG). We retrospectively analyzed 18F-FET PET/CT of 10 patients (age: 33 ± 12 years) with suspicious for recurrent LGG and HGG. The final decision of recurrence was made by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and registered clinical data. While response to radio-chemotherapy by MRI is often complex and sophisticated due to the edema, necrosis, and inflammation, emerging amino acid PET leading to better interpretations with more specifically differentiate true tumor boundaries from equivocal lesions. Therefore, integrating amino acid PET in the management of glioma to complement MRI will significantly improve early therapy response assessment, treatment planning, and clinical trial design. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=positron%20emission%20tomography" title="positron emission tomography">positron emission tomography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=amino%20acid%20positron%20emission%20tomography" title=" amino acid positron emission tomography"> amino acid positron emission tomography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetic%20resonance%20imaging" title=" magnetic resonance imaging"> magnetic resonance imaging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20and%20high%20grade%20glioma" title=" low and high grade glioma"> low and high grade glioma</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127798/o-2-18f-fluoroethyl-l-tyrosine-positron-emission-tomographycomputed-tomography-in-patients-with-suspicious-recurrent-low-and-high-grade-glioma" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127798.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">176</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Organizational Agility in 22 Districts of Tehran Municipality</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehrnoosh%20Jafari">Mehrnoosh Jafari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zeinolabedin%20Amini%20Sabegh"> Zeinolabedin Amini Sabegh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Habibollah%20Azimian"> Habibollah Azimian</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Today variable and dynamic environment doubles importance of using suitable solutions for confronting these changes in th4e organizations. Bone metastasis generally indicates fewer prognostic factors in these patients. Different radiological and molecular imaging modalities are used for detecting bone lesions. Molecular imaging including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, planar bone scintigraphy, single-photon emission tomography, and positron emission tomography as noninvasive visualization of the biological occurrences has the potential to exact examination, characterization, risk stratification and comprehension of human being diseases. Also, it is potent to straightly visualize targets, specify clearly cellular pathways and provide precision medicine for molecular targeted therapies. These advantages contribute implement personalized treatment for each patient. Currently, NaF PET/CT has significantly replaced standard bone scintigraphy for the detection of bone metastases. On one hand, 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT has gained high attention for accurate staging of primary prostate cancer and restaging after biochemical recurrence. On the other hand, FDG PET/CT is not commonly used in osseous metastases of prostate and breast cancer as well as its usage is limited to staging patients with aggressive primary tumors or localizing the site of disease. In this article, we examine current studies about FDG, NaF, and PSMA PET/CT images in bone metastases diagnostic utility and assess response to treatment in patients with breast and prostate cancer.
