When <a href="/people/755/000030665/">Roone Arledge</a> reshaped ABC's nightly news as <i>World News Tonight</i> in 1978, Robinson was hired as one of three co-anchors, along with <a href="/people/311/000022245/">Frank Reynolds</a> and <a href="/people/310/000022244/">Peter Jennings</a>. After the death of Reynolds in 1983 the program was reshaped again, and Robinson left to anchor a local news channel, WMAQ, in Chicago.
